the 2014 release track, letting "Dawn of the POTA" keep it's July 11th release
date. That also takes a major competitor out of the summer box office heat.

If anyone here can tweet to them (I don't tweet), I hope you'll let them know that the gorillas in PLANET and BENEATH had those "fur collars" around their necks -- so they'd look like they had no necks like real gorillas. If the final products don't have the fur collars, then they are gorillas from the TV series, not the original gorillas. Also, I think the leather tunic is supposed to come down just below the crotch in order to make the legs look shorter and the arms look longer, again, like a real gorilla. I wish these sculptors would talk to us before they begin these things.
If anyone can, pass the above chapter to NECA.

Looks like this will be the most rustic of APES movies. Maybe the Apes will be lumber jacks?
Also, I saw the trailer for DAWN in a theatre on Sunday just before THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. I recommend WOLF, if you like that sort of thing, one hell of a movie. Best I've seen all year.

Sorry to interrupt your "Felicity" marathon (Matt
Reeves/Keri Russell) but I just wanted to mention it's 2014. Did you notice? New
POTA stuff is on the way: the first Ape sequel since 1973, books, toys, and
probably things we haven't even thought of. The only thing missing is ape makeup
but I'm sure someone will take care of that this year.

Since Fox seems to put out a new POTA
VHS/DVD/blu-ray every 5 years it would indeed seem to be time. Especially with a
big new movie coming out. But they would need something new to sell it with. New
extras or something. Saying it's restored won't fly with Joe Public. What kind
of extras could they do that would make the sale yet again? Obviously "Nova
pregnant" and other rarities would be good but if they haven't found them yet, I
don't think they're going to.
One idea I have is to interview celebrity POTA
fans (Brad Pitt, etc.) about what they dug about it. That would get some press.

I'm just dying for a better transfer of PLANET. I could see them selling a 4K remastering of PLANET with fully restored stereo sound, not the bogus stereo of the current edition, and like I've said, there is a better HD transfer already done. Anyway, we'll see.

FYI, viewing this beginning at minute 27:20 here:
is potentially invigorating for you...and practically mesmerizing for me. It's "The Hunt" from POTA 1968, performed live. There's another POTA tune beginning at 23:30 but it's slightly anticlimactic in comparison, and also out-of-order (the Clothes Snatchers). Nevertheless, this is a treat worth viewing and hearing when you get a chance. I recommend both tracks if you have time.
Meanwhile, just over half a year 'til Dawn :-)

Apes 4. It's as natural as the dawn. Forget 3, if "Dawn" is successful they will
probably announce 4. The 50th anniversary is a good tie-in, and by # 4 the
society will probably approximate that of the original. I could see a Caesar
trilogy ("Rise", "Dawn", Apes 3 with Old Caesar) followed by a trilogy set in
the far future.

NECA has released a "teaser trailer" and press
release for their POTA collectibles/plain old play with them line. They say
their "Dawn of the POTA" line releases in June, and they also have the license
for giftware, ape-parel, ape-cessories "and more".
And their Classic POTA line later in the
summer (including a gorilla two-pack for building armies):
More to be revealed at Toy Fair in New York (Feb.
16 - 19). They didn't do the action figures but they did a lot of the POTA2001
stuff so they will have all the ape bases covered

These are actually second hand from Twitter, but
GaryOldmanFans tweets this quote (no source): "In a way, every job is much the
same. I mean, once you're there, a movie set is a movie set. I have just gone
from the big-budget "RoboCop" to "Dawn of the POTA", which is somehow even
bigger, and then to "Child 44" with (director) Daniel Espinosa, which is an
absolute fraction of the budget compared to the other two. All 3 of them have
had the most incredible directors - men you would walk through walls for, but
also men who are so clever and imaginative, and focused. It's been a privilege
to work with them" ("RoboCop" arrives 2/12/14 and also stars Jackie Earle
"Kraik" Haley; "Child 44" also stars Dawn's Jason Clarke - both actors were
also in "Lawless").
And earlier today, "Frosty" (who runs the website
"Collider") tweeted: "Just spent a few moments in hotel hallway talking to Gary
Oldman about "Dawn of the POTA". He's very happy with how it turned
out".
So will "Dawn" be good? When guys like John
Lithgow and Tom Felton were singing the early praises of "Rise", some felt,
"Well, they aren't going to trash their employers". But "Rise" did turn out good
(though of course not everyone liked it; "everyone" doesn't like anything). Gary
Oldman is considered an acting great (I know, I know... he doesn't always
choose the best movies, but what actor does?). I'd personally listen to his take
on a movie until he's proven wrong. And Fox was quick to sign the director for
Apes 3 after seeing "Dawn". Fox doesn't always make the best choices either but
it's still a good sign. Some movies have bad buzz. Right now I'd say "Dawn" has
good buzz. That's the best we can do 6 months out.
