The expected October reshoots for "Dawn" did
happen and actor Nick Thurston sez they're done now. Sounds like it was just
motion capture work. Indeed, James Cameron and actress Zoe Saldana came by to
check it out as they prep the "Avatar" sequels (they used his facility in
Manhattan Beach, CA). Of course it's not over 'til it's over - "Rise" reshot
it's ending a month before it's release - but it sounds like everything is going
like clockwork.

They're reshooting for Mad Max as well.
It can be a bad sign, or a good sign that they're
trying hard to get it right. Hope so, if it wasn't right
the first time. You never know. You can't make a silk
purse from a sow's ear, but you can from genetically
modified goat's milk these days. It's a crazy world we live in.

From the way Amazon has been discounting the POTA Blu-ray sets, I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that there will be more to come in that area too, like a 4K transfer of the original with better video and audio. Boy, am I hoping for that one. But....
Lawgiver, who knows about the future?

enjoyed the acting chemistry of the show (I think one of it's best aspects) owe
him a tip of the hat. I got to meet him back in the day (bottom of this page: https://pota.v.kassidyrae.com/upcloseandpersonaltv.html"
) and he was a friendly guy who was amused to see the Marvel
magazine interview with him. Casting directors don't exactly get
mobbed by fans, but he enjoyed the interest in his work and talking Ape. Thanks
Marvin.

The '60's were perhaps the Big Bang of
modern science fiction, with "Planet of the Apes", "Star Trek", "2001: A Space
Odyssey" and "Lost in Space". But before all that, "Dr. Who" premiered 50 years
ago today (Nov. 23). It was science fiction's longest running franchise and is
still going strong. It started after the BBC's coverage of JFK's
assassination. It even predates the rock band The Who! Fifty years later the
Whovians have a right to celebrate and they're doing just that. If there isn't a

So what of these upcoming novels tied into "Dawn
of the POTA"? The novelization by Alex Irvine (7/22/14) is pretty
self-explanatory.
But the prequel by Greg Keyes (6/3/14) would seem
like a good opportunity to novelize "Rise" as well as show what happened
afterwards, up to "Dawn". Maybe even call it "Rise of the POTA". Of course there
was never a novelization of the original POTA movie either. I don't want to be
THAT guy who complains about novels for sequels but not for the original
(actually, I don't want to be THAT guy who says he doesn't want to be THAT guy).
But it would seem they've handed Greg the keys (get it? Keyes?) for a great
opportunity to retell "Rise".

The teaser for "Dawn of the POTA" has been rated
and is ready to go. Runs a little over 1 minute. Probably it will arrive in the
next week or so. Maybe sooner. Could be mostly a rehash of the ComicCon trailer
(which Fox's "X-Men" recently did) but that's OK since most of us haven't seen
it. Will probably be light on apes but will give us an idea of the setting (one
reviewer of the ComicCon trailer said the humans' existence looked very
"Terminator"). Bring it on.

From Broadway and regional theater to television and films, James Naughton
has won critical acclaim in dramas, comedies and musicals. He is the winner of
two Tony Awards as Best Actor in a Musical, for his portrayal of media-savvy
lawyer Billy Flynn in the Broadway hit Chicago (1997) and for his role as a
film-noir era detective in City of Angels (1990), which also earned him a
Drama Desk Award. He won the 1999 MAC Award as best male vocalist for his
one-man concert show, Street of Dreams, presented by Mike Nichols, and
recorded his CD, Its About Time, for DRG records. A graduate of Brown
University and the Yale School of Drama, Naughton made his New York debut in
Eugene ONeills masterpiece, Long Days Journey Into Night, with Robert Ryan
and Geraldine Fitzgerald, winning immediate recognition with Theatre World, New
York Drama Critics and Vernon Rice Awards. His other Broadway credits include
Democracy, Whose Life Is It Anyway, and I Love My Wife. He directed two
critically acclaimed Broadway productions: Arthur Millers The Price which was
nominated for a Tony, and Thornton Wilders Our Town starring Paul Newman, which
he also shot for Showtime. He has directed extensively in the Berkshires and in
Westport, and played off Broadway and in regional theatres for decades.
Naughtons film credits include The Devil Wears Prada, First Wives Club, Factory
Girl, The Glass Menagerie, with Joanne Woodward, The Good Mother, The Paper
Chase, and Cats Eye. On TV, he starred in Planet of the Apes, Whos The Boss?,
Brooklyn Bridge, Making the Grade, Ally McBeal, The Cosby Mysteries, Damages,
and Gossip Girl. Currently Naughton can be seen on CBSs television show,
Hostages. Continuing in the world of cabaret, James Naughton comes back to the
Fairfield Theatre Companys intimate StageOne venue for a special evening
entitled American Songbook. The seasoned entertainers "bass baritone voice is a
phenomenon, both in its caressing resonance and in the ease with which he slides
from traditional crooning to jazz-inflected swing" (The New York Times). The
evening will see the two time Tony Award winner joined by a small sophisticated
band of musician performing songs from the multiple Oscar, Emmy and Grammy Award
winning performer Randy Newman whos musical compositions have been the
soundtrack to such Major Motion Pictures as Awakenings, James and The Giant
Peach, Maverick, SeaBiscuit, and of course countless Disney films including A
Bugs Life, Toy Story, and Monster Inc.
Join FTC as they bring this must-see performance to StageOne before it heads
to Lincoln Center as part of the American Songbook series. The evening promises
to be a night of song that will surely mesmerize audiences and is a cant miss
for theatre and music lovers alike. <.html

"Naughty" is very successful with two Tony awards
and it's hard to watch TV without hearing his voice in commercials. He was very
clear in the "Behind the POTA" doc that he wasn't thrilled with the TV show. So
I think it's cool that he was willing to sign Ape stuff. He offered to do a POTA
interview with me but it didn't work out because of my own screw up (his manager
wound up talking to Natalie Trundy, which is kind of
cool). So I don't think he considers POTA one of the high points of his career
but he seems like a good guy who gives POTA fans his time.

From Broadway and regional theater to television and films, James Naughton
has won critical acclaim in dramas, comedies and musicals. He is the winner of
two Tony Awards as Best Actor in a Musical, for his portrayal of media-savvy
lawyer Billy Flynn in the Broadway hit "Chicago" (1997) and for his role as a
film-noir era detective in "City of Angels" (1990), which also earned him a
Drama Desk Award. He won the 1999 MAC Award as best male vocalist for his
one-man concert show, "Street of Dreams," presented by Mike Nichols, and
recorded his CD, "It's About Time," for DRG records. A graduate of Brown
University and the Yale School of Drama, Naughton made his New York debut in
Eugene O'Neill's masterpiece, Long Day's Journey Into Night, with Robert Ryan
and Geraldine Fitzgerald, winning immediate recognition with Theatre World, New
York Drama Critics and Vernon Rice Awards. His other Broadway credits include
Democracy, Whose Life Is It Anyway, and I Love My Wife. He directed two
critically acclaimed Broadway productions: Arthur Miller's The Price which was
nominated for a Tony, and Thornton Wilder's Our Town starring Paul Newman, which
he also shot for Showtime. He has directed extensively in the Berkshires and in
Westport, and played off Broadway and in regional theatres for decades.
Naughton's film credits include The Devil Wears Prada, First Wives Club, Factory
Girl, The Glass Menagerie, with Joanne Woodward, The Good Mother, The Paper
Chase, and Cat's Eye. On TV, he starred in Planet of the Apes, Who's The Boss?,
Brooklyn Bridge, Making the Grade, Ally McBeal, The Cosby Mysteries, Damages,
and Gossip Girl. Currently Naughton can be seen on CBS's television show,
Hostages. Continuing in the world of cabaret, James Naughton comes back to the
Fairfield Theatre Company's intimate StageOne venue for a special evening
entitled American Songbook. The seasoned entertainer's "bass baritone voice is a
phenomenon, both in its caressing resonance and in the ease with which he slides
from traditional crooning to jazz-inflected swing" (The New York Times). The
evening will see the two time Tony Award winner joined by a small sophisticated
band of musician performing songs from the multiple Oscar, Emmy and Grammy Award
winning performer Randy Newman who's musical compositions have been the
soundtrack to such Major Motion Pictures as Awakenings, James and The Giant
Peach, Maverick, SeaBiscuit, and of course countless Disney films including A
Bugs Life, Toy Story, and Monster Inc.
Join FTC as they bring this must-see performance to StageOne before it
heads to Lincoln Center as part of the American Songbook series. The evening
promises to be a night of song that will surely mesmerize audiences and is a
can't miss for theatre and music lovers alike. ____________________________________________________________Do THIS before eating carbs (every time) 1 EASY tip to increase fat-burning, lower

Here's another book that's coming out: "Rise of

be about designs and so forth, even though we know they just press a button and
apes magically appear. But there are set designs and so forth. It retails for
$40.00 hardcover. <.html <.html

Fox has announced that they are moving
"Dawn of the POTA" to July 11, 2013 from July 18. This is the date that was/is
going to have "Fast & Furious 7". After the tragic death of star Paul
Walker, whether F&F 7 can keep that date is unsure (Walker had important
scenes still to do) but Universal insists they are going to stay there.
Whichever date POTA chose, "Fast" was going to be serious competition. "Fast 6"
made almost $800 million worldwide last summer. Whether they can mourn and then
get it together in time remains to be seen.
Fun fact: the first "Fast and Furious" movie came
out the same summer as POTA2001. Extra credit: What year did POTA2001 come
out?

If it wasn't for hobbits, there would be no new

Plans are for "Fast 7" to pick up the pieces in January, but it still has half

Warner Bros. has moved "Jupiter Ascending" up a
week into Dawn's old slot, July 18. Everybody is inching closer to the warmth of
July 4rth. It's kind of funny. "Jupiter Ascending" is the first sci-fi film from
the Wachowskis since the "Matrix" trilogy and, like "Dawn", has music by Michael
Giacchino. The music is already done, since the Ws like to have the music for
editing. So this trailer includes Giacchino's actual music from the
film:

Sounds like the new Mad Max. They had some reshoots.
Not always a bad sign, but still. Makes you wonder
if the production is going as planned. Much like
Burton's POTA, Mad Max lost the soul of the
original. It wasn't Mel Gibson. It was the car!

that there will be more focus on the apes this time. They are trying to improve
the fur and the apes need to be more expressive this time given where the story
is. He digs the new director, Matt Reeves, who places the emphasis on the story
and characters (WETA sees the apes before anybody and they need to know the

The "Dawn of the POTA" teaser trailer hits
Wednesday but they've shown pity and cut us a small slice of audio dialogue to
tide us over. Pass the salt please.

Word sounds good for the upcoming teaser trailer.
A while back Fox U.K.'s Baij Patel said it "looks frickin' awesome". And today
Badass Digest's Devin Faraci tweeted he's heard it's "f**king awesome". This
time next week will Ape Fever have swept the culture? Or is that just the Simian
Flu?
Here's today's audio teaser for those who
couldn't instagram it:

The "Dawn" trailer hits today and MTV talks here
about what they hope to see in it. MTV is owned by Viacom (their movie studio is
Paramount, not Fox) but they've always seemed to me to be a big POTA booster. I
remember they did some cool specials when POTA2001 came out. They were
anticipating "Rise" when no one else seemed to be. And now they are
enthusiastically up front on the "Dawn" trailer.

Looks like it's the Comic-Con trailer some
saw 5 months ago. But it looks good and we don't have to stand in
line.

.htmlI was hoping for more, but it'll do for now. Looks like it's going to be the darkest of all APES movies, and the rainiest. A typical winter in Frisco.

I'm more and more believing that Fox is planning a massive new APES Blu-ray collection this time next year.
More evidence...
Just got this email from Fox Connect. Looks like they've got a bunch of those "Head" things to clear out. $29.99 is a good price, but I'm still not going for it, especially now that all the discs are old DVDs, and not the best transfers, especially of the cartoon series.
Still, some here might want just the Caesar head, so is $29.99 too much for just the head? You can always donate the DVDs to your local library or something.
