I'll probably stick with my Barbie dolls. Do these come
with "toys"? -- extras? -- like dog tags -- or head lice?

Subject: Top 10 Movie Beach Moments???
.html
A Blockbuster survey has listed some of the most memorable beach
moments in the history of the Hollywood:

1. Dr No (1962) - Ursula Andress emerging from the sea in her white
bikini and knife holster

2. Die Another Day (2002) - Halle Berry redo of Ursula in an orange
bikini.

3. 10 (1979) - Bo Derek running along the beach in slow motion
wearing a gold swimsuit and hair plaits, along with Dudley Moore.

4. Jaws (1975) - Scary sharks chasing Susan Backlinie.

5. From Here To Eternity (1953) - Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr's
sizzling romance on the Hawaiian beach.

6.Point Break (1991) - Keanu Reeves' waking up on the beach to
realise that he is late for work.

7. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) - Roger Moore and Barbara Bach
starrer where Moore shocks Barbara by diving into the sea where his
car becomes a submarine before emerging again on a packed beach of
shocked holidaymakers.

8. Grease (1978) - John Travolta and Olivia Newton's emotional good
bye kiss.

9. The Beach (2000) - Leonardo DiCaprio and Virginie Ledoyen's beach
romp.

10. Cast Away (2000) - Tom Hanks's frustration after he kicks the
volleyball, his only companion on the island, into the sea.

Now I can't argue with the top five or even Grease but how did the
final scene of POTA not make the list. Cast Away? Point Break? Are
they kidding. Even The Spy Who Loved Me is questionable. Do these
people have no sense of cinema history!

Mike, I didn't really read Jeff's posting as having a go at me, so
don't try to start a fight you Aussie stirrer.I'm sure people are
bored to the knackers with this topic now, but I'd just like to put
the record straight on one thing.Paul's 'missing episodes' article
was not originated as a joke nor a gag, it was a straight what if,
albeit written fabulously well.I take the rap for running it 'as
real' because I thought that, with a bit of imagination, this article
would be a really strong piece and to flag it up anywhere as a spoof
would knock the guts out of it.I'd do it the same way again because
we're a fanzine and we do it for fun and to spread the word about
Apes.I also think that Jeff is a bit conservative about a pregnant
Nove figure---I'd like to wind it back a bit for a 'conceiving Nova'
figure. That's one doll I'd be proud to own.John,Scrolls.

I just wanted to sing the praises of the 3 guys involved in the BTB
comic project...again. I have gone back each time a new chapter was
posted and re-read it from the beginning.
Once again ya'll have done an amazing job with the story, art and
tea making.
I can't wait to see what's gonna happen next...hurry up guys...I
think we all are chomping at the bit to see Gideon's fate even
though we don't want the comic to end just yet.

Keep up the great work!!!

Neil, Dave, can you hear me?

Should we put them out of their misery?

I really should get them to do a few cartwheels first, but.....

Dave, could you please send the final two chapters to James.\

If you both agree, we can but up chapter 11 today and chapter 12 (the
finale) tomorrow....

Subject: Second Article of Faith?
.html
Anyone interested in simian wisdom should check out the site's
growing list of adages, proverbs, and quotations from ape lore or
the Sacred Scrolls themselves, in the Database section of the group
site. Anyone can add to the information provided.

Someone added the entry for the First Article of Faith:
The Almighty created the ape in his own image; that He gave him a
soul and a mind; that He set him apart from the beasts of the
jungle, and made him the lord of the planet.

We can speculate whether the Articles of Faith were part of the
Sacred Scrolls attributed to the Lawgiver, or whether they were a
later document derived from the Scrolls. Any thoughts?

We know that there are at least two articles of faith, but I suspect
that there are more. Dr. Honorius, in the tribunal for Taylor, asks
Taylor to recite the "Second Article of Faith". Taylor cannot
answer, and Honorius follows up with "Tell us why all apes are
created equal?" Was Honorius answering his own question, i.e. "All
apes are created equal" is the 2nd Article? Or, was this simply
another question. Who wants to weigh in on this one?

Menluth.

I'd say there must be some parallel with Christian faith.

Is there and act/procamation of faith?

Something else I thought about.....Ape Shall Not Kill Ape is just a parallel
to Thou Shalt Not Kill! It is not to say apes don't kill apes, just that
they shouldn't.

Why have we confused it with ape HAS NEVER KILLED ape?

later document derived from the Scrolls.

The Articles of Faith
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in
the Holy Ghost.

We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's
transgression.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved,
by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are:
first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by
immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift
of the Holy Ghost.

We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying
on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and
administer in the ordinances thereof.

We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church,
namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing,
interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated
correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we
believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining
to the Kingdom of God.

We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the
Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American
continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the
earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates
of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them
worship how, where, or what they may.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates,
in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing
good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We
believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and
hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely,
or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Well, Dr. Honorius never provided us with such a lengthy list of
Articles. But I do suspect that there would be a quite a few, none
the less. Perhaps Honorius hints at a few others in his rhetoric.
Maybe the one about a divine spark existing in the simian brain is
another article as well.

After much deliberation (and discussion with my girlfriend...she

Slave Taylor and Nova 2 pack.
My question is...why is the Taylor in the 2 pack clean shaven? When
you see him in that blanket he uses as clothing, he has a beard.
What they should have done is release the Nova seperatly and then
released the blanket outfit as an accessory pack.
Now...if I can only convince her that I need to spend $125 on an

Dave,
After going back for about the umpteenth time and re-reading the
previous chapters of BTB, I just wanted to give you Kudos on the
writing of this comic. Most everyone has commented on the artwork,
which is brilliant, but I haven't seen much on the writing work,
which is brilliantly done also. I think the way there is no
dialogue but only Gideon's thoughts on the page is a very different
and fresh way of storytelling. Another thing is that any artist,
whether it's comics, film, etc...can be the most brilliant and
creative person on the planet, but if they don't have a great story
to start out with then it's gonna suck from the start...just ask Tim
Burton.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks Greg, It's kind of you to say so. The bottom line is that comics are a
visual medium, you are supposed to notice the art more than the writing. I

Dave, Greg's words could not be more true. We have all seen some fairly

Yeah! My thoughts exactly. I also want to know why the slave Taylor isn't
bearded too! I love the two pack set but it would be nice if Taylor was
bearded. The only time that he's wearing a loin cloth and is NOT bearded is
at the end of the film when he "scrapes the hair off his face." But by that
scene, the old blanket he's using as clothing is long gone.

I wonder if there's a way to complain to Sideshow about this? On second
thought.... NO! Then, there'll be FOUR Taylors to buy!

I agree, this is enough Taylors. However, I had to give in and get
the captive Taylor-Nova two-pack. I love his cape, but the no-beard
thing is going to bother me. Nova is quite good. I will be clearing
room to make way for that Lawgiver! I agree with other comments in

appearing in a POTA action figure line. And we have yet to see young
apes. What about young Cornelius from Battle, or the gorilla youth
that spies Taylor at the funeral?

In the named of relevance, the articles of faith had to have been

like to see some more variety in orangutans among Apes figures in

scenario and you'd have a real diorama to set up!

Hi Wendy,
I agree. The Articles of Faith referred to by Dr. Honorius must
surely derive from the Sacred Scrolls. However, I would speculate
that these Articles were not literally part of the Scrolls in the
beginning. I would assume that, like Michael's posting of the Mormon
articles of faith, or other creeds like the Christian "Apostles'
Creed", these Articles of Faith would be statements of belief
composed later by followers of Ape religion, based on their
understanding of the Lawgiver's original scrolls. Sort of like a
short summary of the essential teachings of the greatest of all
apes. I guess our only reference to these articles is from Dr.
Honorius. I also suspect that his list of rhetorical questions
directed at Taylor are actually quotations or paraphrases from the
Articles that Honorius referred to.

I think if the line is succesfull I'm sure they would make all of

mutants to have interchangeable heads, radiation scarred and regular

extra mask to hold and maybe a hymn book.
I guess if I had to choose which one I wanted first...I would have

I think everyone is thrown off by the fact that Taylor wasn't wearing the
"old blanket" when he "scraped all the hair off his face" near the end of
the film. All he had on was his trusty loincloth, if memory serves me. And
sorry, but the "Damn you all to Hell!" scene just woulnd't be the same if he
was wearing the old blanket.

"It's obvious that this is the Taylor and Nova that set out on horseback

But once again, he wasn't wearing the old blanket when he was on horseback
with Nova. Not at any time that I can recall.

Yes, I can easily see that you are right. I bet they made the same
mistake and then decided to include the shaving kit. The
talking "mama" dollie is also included in the kit, and she didn't
show up until just before the destiny scene. So, it's the outfit
that throws everyone, not the beard. Thanks. I get it now.

Since the Lawgiver is $125, maybe your girlfriend could buy something of

Hate to interrupt, and it sounds like we are getting off topic

to somewhere exotic. One for her and one for a friend. Then, while
she is gone -- and having a great time, BTW -- you can place the

Thursday, July 22, 2004

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Academy Award-winning composer Jerry Goldsmith,
who created the memorable music for scores of classic movies and television
shows ranging from the Star Trek and Planet of the Apes series to The Man
from U.N.C.L.E. and Perry Mason, has died. He was 75.

Goldsmith died in his sleep Wednesday night at his Beverly Hills home after a
long battle with cancer, said Lois Carruth, his personal assistant. A classically
trained composer and conductor who began musical studies at age six,
Goldsmith's award-dappled Hollywood career - he was nominated for 17
Academy Awards, won one, and also took home five Emmys - spanned nearly
half a century.

He crafted an astonishing number of TV and movie scores that have become
classics in their own right. From the clarions of Patton to the syrupy theme for
TV's The Waltons, Goldsmith sometimes seemed virtually synonymous with
soundtracks.

He took on action hits such as Total Recall, which he considered one of his
best scores, as well as the Star Trek movies and more lightweight fare, like his
most recent movie theme for last year's Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

Goldsmith's output also spilled into television, with the themes for shows
including Kildare, Barnaby Jones and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Goldsmith also wrote a fanfare that is used in Academy Awards telecasts.

He won his Oscar for best original score in 1976 for The Omen. He also
earned five Emmy Awards and was nominated for nine Golden Globe awards,
though he never won one.

Some of his motion picture scores were adapted for ballets. Goldsmith also
composed orchestral pieces and taught occasional music classes at local
universities.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children Aaron, Joel, Carrie, Ellen Edson
and Jennifer Grossman, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Obviously they've found buyers for these things, but I don't see how
anyone can afford/justify the prices on all of these! It was bad

Dear all:

Thanks for posting this, Dave; its deeply saddening news. Inevitable,
part of life, but sad. I always think that hoary old chestnut (which
hasn't been said yet, but will be) that "the man will live on in his
work" is only partly true. Now that he has gone, his work still shines,
but listening to it will be tinged with the knowledge he is no longer
with us.

I think Goldsmith was the ultimate movie composer; his scores are unique
and complex.

I always felt the respect heaped upon John Williams' work was generally
undeserved (and mainly the consequence of him scoring the most popular
film of the seventies - "EXPLOSIONS IN SPACE" or whatever it was
called), while Goldsmith (it seemed to me) never received the adulation
from his peers that he deserved - maybe because he didn't have a
definite "sound"; his scores were in sympathy with the material and
consequently varied.

*One* Oscar?

Just listing those that spring to mind: APES, PATTON, THE OMEN,
PAPILLION, ALIEN, CAPRICORN ONE, CHINATOWN - and the cracking stuff he
did for TWILIGHT ZONE and MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

I have no memories of BARNABY JONES, but I have the score and, by God,
it's superb!

In regard to APES, he defined the musical character for that world that
everyone else tried to match - right through the TV series to Mr.
Burton's effort.

Yes, a sad day. McDowall, Hunter... and now Goldmith. Part of life,.
Inevitable. But sad.

Was anybody aware that he actually had CANCER? I knew he was not

I suppose Fox were not insightful enough to get an "Escape"

Sorry to hear about Jerry Goldsmith. The first soundtrack I bought
of his was POTA. To this day I still have it. Listening, and ejoying
POTA, I had spend most of my babysitting money buying soundtracks
composed by him. He will be sorely missed as he is indeed admired by
many. David Elfman, who composed the POTA 2001, was one of them,
modeling his music after Jerry's.

Because my LP table when bust a few years back, I been unable to
listen to the his soundtracks that make up half of my LP collection.
Already I miss them.

One soundtrack the article failed to mention is "Congo". Because the
movie was poorly done, Jerry's music is far from falling short. In
fact, it's excellent. In regard to Jerry's style, there are pieces
in "Congo" that sounds very much like "Escape".

BTW, I don't think I've piped up lately, but "Beware the Beast" just
knocks my socks off everytime I read it. The whole thing is great,
but the artwork is really fabulous. An ape that looks like a PotA
ape! Thanks much to all three of you for all your work on it.

Neil,

Thank you very much for the kind words. It's nice to see the time
and effort put into something like this appreciated.
Once the scans for the next 2 issues are put up which one of the
stories would everyone like to see next?
