I have seen the slave Taylor and Nova at the Sideshow booth at the SD comic con and they will be on sale at the beginning of the 2005 season. Also, I have talked to one of the persons at the booth and she said that there are discussions on making the mutants, she doesn't know when, but they are being discussed. I also put about 500 fliers of the POTA fan club out on the freebie desk Friday, half of the fliers were gone already. When I get back from the con, I will be posting new photos from here, including the Lawgiver statue.

The outfit Zaius was wearing when he spoke with Taylor privately in
his chambers was the same outfit he was wearing throughout the movie
(with the exception of the riding outfit at the end) minus the over
tunic. Just the brown undertunic and pants.

I think Albina and Ongoro are the most memorable and striking (Albina, a

I think if the line is succesfull I'm sure they would make all of
them, like the James Bond series they have. I would prefer the
mutants to have interchangeable heads, radiation scarred and regular
masked face, and for the radiation scarred head they could have an
extra mask to hold and maybe a hymn book.

I talked with an expert on this subject (my 17 year old daughter) and
she says it's another outfit. That makes three outfits. Sorry,

I like the Conquest police idea, as long as they got the costume
right, the armband logo from Time Tunnel on it. Of course, if they
did that, we would need a Caesar. Why not a Lisa and young Cornelius
two-pack? I'd love that one.

that I have heard an abundance of complaints from people about their
experience with Ape Chronicles and the inaccuracies (I won't
say "lies") on Terry's site that I pointed out to him (and he said
he would do something about) are still sitting there.

I'm all for a new (old?) POTA fanzine, but I sure as hell hope you
guys aren't going to be taking money for things and not providing
what you say you will, as you have in the past. If you are, I'm not
going to sweep it under the carpet...and if you call that "falling
off the wagon", then brace yourself for a 7.8 on the Richter scale
coz here I come......AHhhhh.......THUMP!

also note that "Chronicles" WAS published bimonthly and the forementioned

Well, Terry's Terry. He has to answer for statements he makes and if people send him money he has to answer for it. I am a contributor to his magazine and work hard on it when I can. Once we get the ball rolling again people who have subscriptions can either stay or get a refund. As I said I'd refund them myself if I have to, even though I didn't receive the money. But we have to get things straightened out first. If you're so worried "Ape Chronicles" has brought POTA shame, why did you copy our name?

Well, I haven't heard how to sign up, or how much it costs, or what
I "will" get when I join. I've been to Terry's site a few times, and
find it confusing. Seems like there is stuff for sale, but I
couldn't figure out how one would buy anything. I think he could use
someone with computer skills to help him out, update his site, get
the links working, and clear things up. Great colors, though.

So, if chronicles is going to "start up" again, when will it happen?
How can one go about getting past issues. And how does one sign up?

Ok On a whim I'm heading to Las Vegas August 1-5. I'm
wanting to know about Lake Powell. Russo's book says
Taylor's crashsite was filmed somewhere called
"Crossing of the Fathers" on the Colorado River. Does
anyone know exactly where that is (or other Powell
film sites) and how long it would take to get there
from Vegas? Also near the town of Page, Arizona is
where the astronauts first see Nova and are eating the
fruit right before the hunt begins. Anybody have exact
locations? Would love to make an APES shoot run while
there, but I want to know exact spots. Can anybody
help?

Subject: [PotaDG] Lake Powell


Ok On a whim I'm heading to Las Vegas August 1-5. I'm
wanting to know about Lake Powell. Russo's book says
Taylor's crashsite was filmed somewhere called
"Crossing of the Fathers" on the Colorado River. Does
anyone know exactly where that is (or other Powell
film sites) and how long it would take to get there
from Vegas? Also near the town of Page, Arizona is
where the astronauts first see Nova and are eating the
fruit right before the hunt begins. Anybody have exact
locations? Would love to make an APES shoot run while
there, but I want to know exact spots. Can anybody
help?

Well the convention is just about to close down until next July and I have already put in an order for the Dr. Zaius and Colonel Taylor figures. I have seen the Lawgiver statue and I will buy that one when it is available. When I get back home, I will be posting pictures of the figures on the discussion group, I would have posted here in San Diego but i'm having problems uploading on their computers. The stack of fliers is halfway gone and already had several writers and artists taking some. I think that Sideshow Toys will be doing more toys including young Cornelius, Lisa and Ceasar, and maybe Zira and Cornelius from Escape.
Some of the fan clubs have a large following here including the Star Wars fan club which have a section of the convention center for themselves, maybe POTA can too.

What did you think of it. Did you get to pick it up? How heavy was

Very accurate. From what I saw from behind the glass case, it was realistic. The statue is so big that you can place in onto a table(2 feet in height)

Well, Terry's Terry. He has to answer for statements he makes and if
people send him money he has to answer for it. I am a contributor to his
magazine and work hard on it when I can. Once we get the ball rolling again
people who have subscriptions can either stay or get a refund. As I said I'd

I've talked to John and we've offered to try with Jeff/Terry to at least
co-ordinate the whole thing so issues don't clash, but (as expected) no
co-ordination is looking like taking place.

I've even talked about having various countries run CHAPTERS of the Official
FC, and there will be an announcement about that soon, but AC won't be part
of that.

And no, I won't be childish and run off to Fox, asking them to send their
legal team to visit Terry and his "innocent" buddy! ;)

I just created a folder in the photos section titled "Sideshwo
toys". It has pics of all the proposed figures so far. If I'm not
mistaken anyone can add to it. Not really a check list but it's the
next best thing.

It was announced at the San Diego Comic Con that Fox will release the "Star Wars" animated cartoons "Droids" and "Ewoks" on DVD. If these are successful it could spur them to try other such ventures like, er, ahem, maybe releasing the animated "Return to the POTA". Hope springs eternal. I dont know if anyone has a dvd burner but i do have a 2 disk dvd set of the ape cartoons i would be willing to lone out for anyone who wants to bang out some copies. there not the best quality but they will do till someone can get a better set made.

For purely selfish reasons I'd like to see Blood of the Apes next as
I don't have that one either. Then Urchak as I only have the first 2
issues.
I don't have any copies of Ape Nation so I would have to place that
next even though I'm not sure that I'd want to see it?
Unfortunately I DO have all copies of Ape City and I know I'd never
want to see that c**p again ;-)

Sorry about that. I wondered after writing it if I should go look

I just got back tonight from the Con and I have found out some news
about the POTA toys from Sideshow WETA toys. I could not pick up the
Lawgiver statue because it was behind a plexiglas case, but talking
to one of the members who was manning the booth said that the
Lawgiver will be pretty heavy because he didn't know how many lbs it
will weigh. I have posted two photos from the con of the POTA toys in
the photo section under Sideshow toys.
I also have several more photos of the POTA toys but I going to
have the photos developed.

No problem. But to the question how faithful is the Lawgiver statue, just look at the photo that I have uploaded under Sideshow toys. It's that good.

As we hope all members know by now, the group has limited space on
Yahoo's server. The Files section is currently at limit and the
Message section is at 85%. The Photos section isn't too bad but we
have to watch it.
In an effort to clear some space the two Jerry Goldsmith mp3s that
were uploaded last week will be deleted on Friday. Anyone that wants
a copy, it is suggested that you download these files by then.
As always please edit down the run-on of your posts and delete all
but what you're specifically replying to.
Also, before uploading to the Files or Photos section please check
that what you're uploading is not already available somewhere else
in these sections, in the DGPhotos, Archives & FanFiction groups, on

There is one other set that is not listed that I would DEFINITELY
buy. That is Cornelius, Zira, and baby Milo. Zira definitely needs
a carpet bag, Milo definitely needs a medalion. What does Cornelius
need? I thought a gun, but that is just too sad :((

I hate to empty your bathwater guys, but Lake Powell probably no
longer exist. Due to the lack of water (the drought in the southwest)
and the protest of environmentalist, the dam was to be disassembled.
I don't know if it has already been done but my guess is that Lake
Powell is no longer a lake. Let me know if you do find it. During my
treck to New Mexico, I tried to locate lake back in January, but to
no avail. If you do find it then you will probably be the last POTA
fan to lay eyes on such a pota historical landmark.

To add to Dr. Zaiz's woredrobe cotroversy, I (after watching the
movies over and over) noticed Zira wears two different outfits.
Although they appear the same, one appears to be a faded green, the
other a more crisp - newer green. The lighter outfit is worn when she
is working while the brighter, much newer one, she wears outside work
or to special occasions or to the tribunal. When Zira is killed, she
is wearing her faded green outfit. Am I wrong???

you already know about), I'm back online again. So part of today will be
for catching up on DG stuff as best I can. There's absolutely no way I
can slog through that many Digests, so can anyone tell me if I missed
anything major? I know Jerry Goldsmith passed away, and that Parts 9 & 10
of 'Beware the Beast' were posted- but was there anything else major?

Finally got my crappy system to download the latest BtB.Nothing
crappy about this.If we didn't know these guys, we'd be sure that
these are industry professionals doing a comic strip.The quality of
this strip is breathtaking and there is far, far inferior stuff being
sold on the racks each month by the big publishers.And we're getting
this for free! I'm hoping this can be given the collected volume it
deserves and, in the meantime, I'm enjoying the superb words and

Occasionally, debate pops up in the DG about the amount of time that
passes between the first and second films, and one of the points that's
repeatedly brought up is that how could so many different things have
happened in such a short amount of time (the trial of Cornelius and Zira
starting & concluding, their wedding, power shift in Ape City to the
gorillas, etc). Anyways, I got to wondering why people always assumed
that there wasn't a lot of time between the two films.

At the very least, you could reasonable presume that 4-6 weeks passed
between PLANET and BENEATH. Enough time so that: A) Cornelius & Zira's
trial had begun & concluded (and they were subsequently married), and B)
the appearance of Taylor, the disappearance of the 11 scouts, or
something else entirely, has happened that somewhat shifts the power
structure in the Ape Society. Enough so that Ursus is able to garner
support for his planned invasion of the Forbidden Zone. Now as far as I'm
concerned, you could easily justify Taylor & Nova were roaming around in
the desert for that period of time. Granted yes, he was only given
supplies for a week- but there's no reason to presume that they didn't
find other sources of food & water in their travels. In fact, one of
Nova's flashbacks in BENEATH shows them at a small oasis. Even after
Taylor's disappearance, she could have been searching for him and
managing to survive based on her own instincts and by what she learned
from Taylor. Discussing this recently with my good friend Dave Ballard,
he mentioned that it’s likely they were there long enough for Taylor to
double back to the pool where he, Landon and Dodge had their swim. There,
by chance if not design he was able to recover his dog tags. Either that
or he spent the whole of ‘Planet’ with them stuck up his arse! (must be a
British thing, because I have no such part on my body) ;-)


Also, it's never been fully established how far into the FZ Brent was.
PLANET made reference of a three day ride across the desert, but we
really have no idea of how close (or far away) he & Nova were to Ape
City. As I recall, the novelization seemed to indicate a rather long trek
from the wrecked spaceship until they came upon Ape City (can anyone
confirm this?). Another point supporting a 4-6 week period is the fact
that
when Brent finally meets Taylor he’s obviously been a captive for quite
some time.

So, what does everyone else think?

I was watching my 2 disc version of BEHIND THE POTA recently, and on the
sheet that breaks down the contents of the first disc there's a mention
of a 'Production Still Gallery'. However, I can't seem to find it on any
of the menus. Does anyone have any idea where it is? Also, are there any
Easter Eggs on it?

On a (slightly) related note, the DVD version of the 1966 Batman movie
also have a promo spot for the Apes DVDs. You suppose someone at Fox knew
that a bunch of us saw all these films on The 4:30 Movie when we were
kids?
