I just noticed this pic in the board of directors page in the Screen Actor's Guild
magazine. She's looking pretty good! I put her photo under Photos>Misc in
the DG site. Here's her bio from imdb.com.....

Tim

Biography for
France Nuyen

Birth name
France Nguyen Vannga
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spouse
Robert Culp (1967 - 1970) (divorced)
Dr. Thomas Gaspar Morell (1963 - 1966) (divorced)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trivia

Of Vietnamese-French ancestry.

First husband was a New York psychiatrist, with whom she had a daughter
named Fleur.

Herself a victim of child abuse, Nuyen earned a Master's degree in Clinical
Psychology in 1986, and since then has made the transition to a second
career in family practice counseling, working mostly with abused children,
abused and battered women and women in prison.

Received the 1989 "Woman of the Year" award in Los Angeles for her work
as a consulting psychologist in treating abused children and convicted
women.

Marlon Brando, who had a penchant for Asian women, had a brief affair with
France in the early 60s.

Born to a French mother and Vietnamese father (French is her first language)
and raised in Marseilles by a cousin, she claims her mother and grandfather
were persecuted by the Germans during WWII for being gypsies.

Married and divorced twice. Her second husband was Robert Culp, whom
she met while appearing on his "I Spy" TV series. Her second was a
psychiatrist with whom she had a daughter.

Surprisingly, the 50th anniversary celebration of "South Pacific" did not
include her. She played the role of Liat in the 1958 film.

Bitterly complained that director Amy Tan cut her best scene in "The Joy Luck
Club" and took all known actresses off advertising in order to draw all
attention to herself when promoting the film.

The second major Asian actress to become a star in Hollywood after Anna
May Wong, she was a tremendous success opposite William Holden in the
title role of a prostitute in "The World of Suzie Wong" on Broadway in 1958.
She had to learn her lines phonetically. She began shooting the film version
when the 19-year-old was suddenly replaced by producer Ray Stark for an
18-year-old Nancy Kwan.

-- Very nice! When you get the time you should have a go at doing
some illustrations for Monkey planet. Any one else that wants to is
strongly encouraged to do so as well, I would really love to see
other peoples interpretations of Boulle's novel.

And if any of you has ANY POTA art they have done please upload it
to the above mentioned folder for us all to enjoy!

Actually she did the role on Broadway with William Shatner.  Holden was only in the film version -- which I'm glad starred Nancy Kwan (She was so hot!).  ("The World of Suzie Wong" is one of my favorite movies.)

Nuyen later guest-starred on an episode of "Star Trek" with Shatner.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the group's posts for December
2003 have been deleted from the main site and can now be found in
the files section of the Archives as a text file:

http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGrouparchives/

For those of you who are new to the group, we have to do this
periodically to free up space as Yahoo does not allot much space to
the groups anymore. As this group is so active we tend to fill up
very quickly and instead of losing old posts forever we like to keep
a copy of them all, so we had to start a few more groups to store
excess stuff on.

One important point - to access the old posts etc. you will need to
be a member of the Archives group.

The same is also true for the Fan Fiction and Photos groups:

http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGroupfanfiction/

http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGroupphotos/

All the sites can be easily accessed via the links on each one's
Home Page.

A big "thank you" to Neil for doing this again and to Helen who often does this.

Never mind guys, at this rate NONE of the groups will be filling up in the NEAR future.

I don't think I have ever seen the electronic Planet of the Apes domain so lifeless.

Hi,

Thanx alot for the welcome, I have to admit I've lurked here alot
before.

Doing the updates on the site recently kind of reignited my interest
in apes.

I'm a mego collector and an Apes fan. I'm currently rewatching the
cartoon series as we speak.

Cheers,
Brian

I have a lot to say about the cartoon series but I am hoping next month we can all re-watch in tandem and comment on each episode together, as the TV gropup are doing with the TV Show.

Chris Hight is, I believe, planning to do some "Return" based original Action Figures...Chris?

I'm a mego collector and an Apes fan. I'm currently rewatching the
cartoon series as we speak.

Neil,

Thanks for uploading this - we now have a complete page of the strip!

Everyone, Neil and I are really doing this for fun and because we want to.  I can understand iof you don't comment on some of the strips, but after the first spurt of comments there has essentially been NOTHING for the last 2 installments.  If you still have nothing to say I can only assume it is time to look for another venue.

If you want us to keep sharing this with you, I suggest you at least comment on what is there.  Like it or not, we want to know.

Michael

I am completely enjoying the comic strip. I think I might reconize someone, but I'll just wait to see if I am right or not. Loved the capsul with all the 70's and 80's stuff on it. Can't wait for the next installment to see where this story is headed. Very interesting.

'Tis True. Since the 12" Hasbro outfits are so close
to the costumes used in the cartoon I plan on doing an
affordable series of figures. I have original sculpts
for Zaius, Gorilla Soldier and Urko. The guy who is
casting them is going to make about 4 each so there
will be a limited number leftover.

I also plan on making a cartoon Cornelius and Zira.
The Urko is pretty wild because he has those big
rivots on his armor neck plate...Jeep sold seperately.
Though I bought an Urko jeep for $5.

We can discuss this more when I have a figure made.
Can you imagine the box art? It's worth doing just for
that.

Leave it to those wacky Japanese PotA-lovers to celebrate the TV series
anniversary in style. The TV series is hitting DVD over there in a limited
edition box set. The content of the discs is no different, but check out the
following link. It's about 260 dollars (Japanese DVDs are all pretty
expensive). But this isn't just down to inflated Japanese prices - you can't
tell from the picture that there's anything special about it, but read the
description of the packaging further down the page...

Like Mike said, the reason the art is 'different' is because I am
doing it in a less detailed more 'cartoony' style to speed up the
drawing process. Also it is just pencils, it is not inked over, also
    to save time.

Yes, I thought you'd probably be one of the likely candidates to splash out
on it. I posted a second link yesterday but I think I only sent it to the TV
group and not the DG. Here it is:

This one actually has a picture of the Icarus. You can click on the "zoom"

This one actually has a picture of the Icarus. You can click on the "zoom"
option just under the picture for a close-up. It looks very nice indeed.

The Icarus model isn't actually part of the box art.  What really amazed me is the price.  $345.99!!!!!!!!!  You have to be nuts to pay that.

Wow! I notice that we (and other POTA groups) have had a huge jump
in membership numbers in the last few days. This is great and shows
that there are Apes fans out there!

Instead of welcoming you all individually (which some may see
as 'post stacking'!) I will just say a collective welcome to all our
new members and highlight a few important things for you all.

Please feel free to jump in and contribute if a subject takes your
fancy, or start one up yourself!

MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE HOMEPAGE AND READ THE NEW PLANET OF THE APES
COMIC BOOK - BEWARE THE BEAST!!!

Go to the homepage, scroll down to around the middle of the page and
click on the link underneath the colourful logo....this will take
you to the internal site where you can go to earlier chapters by
clicking on the menu at top of the images.

We have recently started a new comic strip called WITHIN THE PLANET
OF THE APES which can be found in the files section of the group or
you can just click on the handy link on the Home Page to view the
    latest and previous chapters!

Don't forget we also have 3 other groups 'attached' to the main one.

First up there is the DG Archives group:
    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGrouparchives/
This group was created to store old posts from the group which have
been deleted from the main site. we have to do this periodically to
free up space as Yahoo does not allot much space to the groups
    anymore.
As this group is so active we tend to fill up very quickly and
instead of losing old posts forever we like to keep a copy of them
all. They can be found in the Files section listed by month and
    year .

There is also the DG Fan Fiction group where members can place, in
the group's Files section, their Fan Fiction stories, poems etc. to
    be enjoyed by all:
    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGroupfanfiction/

    Finally there's the Photos group:
    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGroupphotos/
Where photos are very occasionally moved to save space on the main
    DG group

All the sites can be easily accessed via the links on each one's
    Home Page.

And don't forget to check out the DG group's vast Photos section and
all that great stuff in the Files section. While you're here why not
participate in a Poll or check out all those wonderful links and
generally have a fun filled family experience!

    OK - Let's have a competition.

First Prize - an original Animation Cel from the "Return" series - with original PAINTED BACKGROUND!

Second Prize - full set of medicom figures (including "Dark Cornelius") and Kubricks.

Third Prize - Mego in Repro Box.

Weekly Prizes - Ash Can edition printed FULL VERSIONS of BEWARE THE BEAST - these are the ones that include 7 pages NOT SEEN ON THE INTERNET VERSION, with 2 pages of production art and a teaser for the new story set in the TV Show environment, starring our favourite trio, written by Dave Ballard, Illustrated by Neil Foster.

First, take 20 minutes to WATCH THE PILOT EPISODE!

If you can't do this, contact me for a free copy.

To register in the competition, send a post about the appropriate episode to the DG.  No Rory, "It Sux" does not count!  ;)

    NOW - GO AND WATCH!

And don't be mistaken, this is a shameless recruiting move to get people to join the POTADG, and to try to get people talking about Planet of the Apes again.  It is also a great way to generate discussion about the much neglected Cartoon Series.

    No, they certainly DON'T!

I sent a FAX to Japan asking Medicom about this (and asking for playsets etc) and the response was "NO!" and there was a suggestion that their Medicoms did NOT sell well enough to justify the License cost.

    Hi guys,

I'm sorry for not checking in sooner! We're okay, busy righting things, but
we got paid off by our insurance for the damage which wasn't extensive.
Thank goodness hurricane season is over, I don't think we'd survive another
    hit this year.

I'm also pretty well inundated with doing what I can in this election. You
both know what's on the line. Kerry has got to win!

I'm receiving e-mails and will pop back into the discussion soon as
    possible. Thanks for caring. :)

Yeah, that's my take on it. The Japanese seem to be big on fancy packaging
(coffins, swords, you name it, there's probably been a Japanese DVD box
based on it) and it looks like the PotA tv series is getting the same
    treatment.

Not 28000 yen worth of cool I admit, but cool all the same.

hi, I already thanked you for the dvds privately michael, but thanx again!

I didnt realise there was so much cut out of battle. It has been giood to finally see the cartoon. While the cartoon is pretty bad what i did like about the first one was the long walk through the desert by the astronauts. There are some really nice paintings when they are not talking but other than them most of the art is pretty bad i think! most of it is pretty corny but then again it was made for kids but i still like it cos it is apes!.

On the same page you will see this too.....I wonder if "Battle" is the EXTENDED VERSION?

On the Japanese Laserdisc, is it heralded as a special edition of Battle or could we take for granted (if there is no fanfare) that this is their standard release of Battle?

O.K. As the Father of a 4yr. old I have to come to the defense of the
Return to the Planet of the Apes cartoon. Yes, its fairly bad. The
astronauts wearing turtle necks and one being named Jif makes you
wonder what the hell they where thinking. But the artwork was really
quite good for the time and the stories where not half bad for
Saturday morning cartoons. When I see my son watching the cartoon and
see the reaction he gets from watching them it makes me realize "oh
yeah, these were ment for little kids on Saturday mornings" not for

I'm sure there's a Fox division in Japan.

I'm going to have to take a pass on this.  Having that plastic spaceship just isn't worth it.  I already have the MonstersinMotion.com Icarus model, and that was over $100 bucks.

If it is $250 yen then it is about $210 US I think......

      episode to the DG.

-- Okay I know it is not the best, I know it was aimed at kids but I
love it for some strange reason.
What I like about the first episode is that we have the
usual 'astronauts landing on a strange planet after being propelled
into the future' but this time they all get to live! Instead of the
loner having an adventure we have a team and one of them is a woman
(a bit strange for the time it was made) I know she disappears quite
early on but I had a feeling (even if I didn't already know!) that
she would be back in later episodes.

I also like the idea of the apes having a more advanced society, a
bit closer to Boulle's original idea. I just think there is
something so cool about having the Ape Army driving around in jeeps
      shooting Howitzers!

Anyway there are some very good paintings used in this episode. Some
very nice 'shots' of the astronauts trekking across the desert. One
slight thing that does 'bug' me is the use of just an 'ordinary'
space capsule, I wish they had at least made it a bit like the ones
in the movies or even totally different but that is just a personal
thing, it doesn't distract from the look of the cartoon at all.

Judging by the shape, I would say that this looks like it sits under the
spaceship (so that the nosecone point upwards) and lights up underneath it
(I guess so it looks neat and also approximates a rocket effect). Who knows,
maybe it even has sound effects!

Hate to disappoint you Michael, but I'd say that since Terry has obviously
used an interpreter program or website (hence the gobbledegook nature of a
lot of the sentences) this is probably just a case of dodgy translation,
i.e. it's clever, not Creber and the "William" part may well have come from
something like "bill". It'd be nice if I was wrong but I suspect it's just a
side effect of the translation program. It does however look like there is
definitely some kind of extra material though.

(To see what I mean, try going to one of those sites and translating a
phrase into one language then back again - you rarely end up with the
        sentence you began with).

I have about 700 yen worth of loyalty points at CDJapan at the moment -
somehow I don't think that would make too much of a difference...

        Thanks Michael,
It looks like the only two I have'nt got are the brown Cornelius and the beneath gorilla. I'll keep checking ebay but I do have things to swap if any of the members are looking for stuff.
