What's this? Treating men as sex objects? Not very PC. I'm all for it, as long as what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
+++To acknowledge that there was a good-looking man on the screen, even considering the term 'drool fest' isn't PC? Where'd you come up with that one?
I for one don't have a problem with you saying someone has a good figure or they're good looking. The problem is when people get crudely offensive. Use your common sense and forget these labels.

Everyone has to bow to limitations somewhere, Rory. The world is not

The way the process usually works, I say usually but it can work other
ways, is a producer finds a good script. There are two kinds of producers
though. One is a production guy, but there's also producers who are just
money men, know as executive producers.
Anyway the producers puts together the production team, starting with the
director. Sometimes the director is the only person the producer
hires. Thereafter the director does all the hiring. From then on the
producers only job is making sure the director does his job. That and
making sure the director has what he needs to get the job done, on time, and
budget. Many times all a producer needs to put a project over on the
studio is some good art work. He show them to the suits and pitches the
story and it's thumbs up.
But as Arthur Jacobs found out even with an actor with a name and some
Hollywood clout, it can still be a tough sell even with a really good
story. That's not to say bad scripts don't get made. It happens all
the time. More often then not really. The fact is, the suits can't
really tell a good idea from a bad one. It's all a horse race for Oscar to
them. And they can't even hadicap if they had a tip sheet. But they
know what they can sell. Or at least they think they do. Many times
they don't and the merchandise cats are left holding the bag.
I still think going through Canada is the best way. They did the Lexx
series in conjunction with Germany, so they have a track record of making Sci-fi
series for the Sci-fi Channel.

Thanks again T.
My main focus would be on putting together a
marketing package we could sell to those suits!
I would want it made in America, and
preferably near Malibu, if we were to do a TV Show wrap up. But Canada
would be fine too.

Rory, if you
have an urge to say something to Kass please send her a private
email.
Let's not get
dragged into crap hurling on the group.
Rory,
dangly bits can be freely discussed on Patrick's group, or on any other group
you might choose to create. In the interest of harmony I would ask that we
all limit the discussion of dangly bits to another forum. Anyone wishing
to sap my energy, that I would prefer to devote to better things, in arguing the
"why"s and the "wherefore"s can do so
in a private email to me, OK?
I want
to keep this an UNmoderated group, but it is FAR more important to me that the
majority of people on this group feel happy and comfortable being here.
That could mean some compromise for some people, and the choice is
yours.
Please
let's all move on. You know the rules, if you want to play the game stick
to the rules. If you don't like the rules discuss them with me,
privately. If you don't want to play this game, by these rules, find
another game you DO want to play, where the rules suit, and play that game
there.

I don't think
it is a lot to ask.
I see these
groups a "houses".
When you go
to somebody's house, sometimes they ask you to take your shoes off at the
door. Rory, would you respond by saying:
Why should
I HAVE to take off my shoes? If anyone is offended my dragging dog crap on
their carpet, that's THEIR problem. Feeling offended is an emotional
response and I don't consider myself responsible for others emotions. If

People need to control the emotions that rule their brains. Man has far to

Or would you
take off your shoes?
And would you
expect to be allowed in the house if you refuse to take off your
shoes?
And would you
think you might be invited back, or do you think you might return to find a sign
on the door saying "Rory, you dragger of dog shit, please don't knock"?

If you make it in Cali it would have to be a union shoot.
Then your costs naturally go up. I've never heard of a
marketing package being done. In a band you make a
press kit to send out to club owners, indie labels, and
or radio stations, and esp.music publications. The thought
being they're lazy and are more likely to run something
that's been done for them than do any work of their own.
In television you usually don't make a series yourself.
You make one episode, as a pilot. Then you flog that
to the buyers at the media show. That way if no one
picks it up you're only out the money for one episode.
Again, it's best to have someone on the inside who
knows how to grease the wheels. In film you can't
send unsolicited work to a studio. And if you do
you are black balled and you never will be asked
to submit anything, ever.

Well that to me does seem to be a lot more healthy than having
someone do it for you.
Nobody wants to stop people speaking their mind on the group but
like Michael has said we do expect people to show common courtesy to
others and at the least try to get along.
I'm sure no one person will ever agree 100% with someone else's

Well, I'm going to refrain from discussing politics.
But there is a political anecdote that sums it up.
Never wrestle with a pig. You'll both end up in the
mud and the pig enjoys it. Feel free to disagree.
And I'll feel free not to bother to respond to your
disagreement. I've decided I'm a Mepublican.

It might have self destructed! If you
don't renew groups every 3 months or post they disappear.
I propose we do what I did with the POTAFC
group and create a "political arena" group where we can discuss DG business,
ideas, philosophies, and call each other names!
Those who don't want to watch the crap fly
(and have it splatter on them) need not join.
This way we could stop using Patrick's group
as a toilet (just because we can too) and instead use Patrick's group for more
adult themes to protect the kiddies that Uncle Rory does not care for!
;)

Yes, I must say her inclusion, and that of
Tim Roth, really convinced me Burton's POTA was going to be great.
I know some disagree but I thought Roth was
very one dimensional as Thade - like a chimp on steroids! I loved him in
Res. Dogs and Pulp Fiction though, and Helena was great in Fight

There are
many answers, but since you and Kass are good friends and I think it would be
great to get back to that place, my suggestion may be the most
effective.
OR you could
invite her to a slog fest at the new group, where you can say "double

Your

OR we could

They just weren't given much to work with. Roth was chewing the
scenery worse than Ursus, but if you look at the out takes they were even worse
when he didn't do it. The story was weak to start with. As Butthead

As a lost-cause comic nut I just want to let you know that your
original comic series "Beware The Beast" and "Within the POTA" makes
the 1990 Adventure comic series look like a Yahoo fan site
production. (My apologies to anyone in this group who may have
worked for Adventure - I absolutely love Yahoo fan site productions
by the way!)
Does Neil have any work published professionally? It is comparable
to what Marvel and DC produce - it is that good. His sense of layout
and flow is simply top knotch story telling. Michael has a pretty
deft touch in the writing department too and works extremely well
with Neil. I like how the writing doesn't just retell what the art
is portraying but complements it - quite a duo here.
POTA is ripe with possibilities for exploring new stories behind the
POTA. (Except for ones involving the ghost of Breck...)
An idea for a story I would love to see Michael and Neil run with:
Remember in Beneath the POTA there was mention of 11 gorilla scouts
who disappeared in the Phantom Zone and the 12th returned with his
brain scrambled by mutant interrogation? At first I thought that
this was where "Beware The Beast" was headed with Gideon finding
Brent's ship in the Phantom Zone. Anyway I would love to see Neil's
depiction of a mutant - maybe a story idea for another day?

I love the oh-so-common response of 'why am I responsible for your emotions?'. What a grand way to elicit reaction and then hide behind words. I suppose we could create a wasteland here as was done on
the original POTA groups, huh? Some people never learn.
Oh, and I'm irritated Michael, but I must own my emotions and not blame Rory for wanting to blow up the planet ONE more time. I don't need an apology. I think Rory the Goovus already knew it.
Michael, by the way, I saw your responses this morning. Really nice, measured comments in my opinion.

Hey - I have some DVDs here for you too!
Oh - and may I just remind you too that Dave Ballard wrote BTB.
Dave is the Author of some of the best Fan Fics I have ever read,
and I do believe one of these was on the topic of scouts lost in the
Forbidden Zone and this appeared in Simian Scrolls, and was
Illustrated by Neil!
As for Neil drawing a mutant, I do beleive he has a self-portrait

-- Thanks very much for the high praise Robert. I have had a little
work published professionally but not a lot of comic work apart from
in an Aussie comic a few years ago called Captain Koala
( http://www.koalacomics.com.au/home.htm) plus currently some
illustrations in a couple of US horror magazines (Black petals & the
Corpse) plus more in upcoming issues.

works extremely well with Neil. I like how the writing doesn't just
retell what the art is portraying but complements it - quite a duo
here.
-- Yeah he does. I like the way 'Within' is headed and I hope to get
the next chapter up today. I must point out though that 'Beast' was
written by the great Dave Ballard, probably THE current Apes story
teller!

Remember in Beneath the POTA there was mention of 11 gorilla scouts
who disappeared in the Phantom Zone and the 12th returned with his
brain scrambled by mutant interrogation?
-- Speaking of Dave B, he wrote a story called Scouts that was in a
previous issue of Simian Scrolls which was about this very subject!
I illustrated it for him.

story idea for another day?
-- Now where did I put that portrait of Whitty that I was working
on... ;-)
