T,

I have a few ideas on how to prevent it. Your idea seems fair to me but
I think only G Bush would be able to get this to happen and Borneo has
no oil! ;) That WAS a joke y'all!

When I read the article yesterday it occurred to me that what we really
need is a "Live Aid" of sorts - a bunch of celebrities volunteering
their work to a project. What better project than a new pota movie?

It won't happen, but it is a nice dream.

The real question is how can we prevent it? I think that all the people
in Borneo should be
removed and possibly locked up in zoos in orangutan cages and the Orangs
should be put in charge of the government of Borneo.

Seems fair.

Hmm. What could Dr. Garvon be reacting to in that book? Could it be Mike Nesmith's biography and he just reached the part about how his mother invented Liquid Paper?

    How did you know? ;)

Well, I can state the obvious and say it is something that is going to
shake up his faith a bit!

I was actually thinking that the "Monkees" album might have been a bit
silly at first, but it fitted in with the pacing of what I had written
to give them something that might have been explainable at first, and it
was consistent with the age of the time capsule.

I was going to go a step further and have Garvon find a record player,
and get him to fool around with it at his office in Ape City, and cause
a public disturbance because the volume is very loud (and playing the
song "Hey Hey we're the Monkees!")....that was actually an event in a
draft! But I abandoned that idea. Wrong album! ;)

You will just have to wait a little longer to see what precisely gets
    that reaction.

Soon you will have an idea where this all fits in on the timeline.

One month for each of the movies, one month for the TV Show, One for the
Cartoon (there's 7!), then of the 5 remaining months maybe one for
comics, one for collectibles, one for actors, one for original art and
maybe one for the Burton movie....while I do not think much of it there

Ive added pix of female possible gorilla tunic, this is not th eoutfit
worn in the funeral scene at all.The funeral scene appears to be a
chimp in a hooded outfit. These pix are of a prototype female
gorilla, the material is exactly the same as the green ones worn in
planet by female chimps, also the cuts inside exactly match so they
were made at the same time. The coloring matches the undersuits of the
gorillas leading to believe they were designed for female gorilla
costumes that were never made except for this one.
If anyone ever speaks of has contact with the costume
designer, please ask about the possibility of a female gorilla and
    what happened. goapebilly

I was giving this some thought last night. One way to go would be to make the calendar character-based, with each month devoted to a different character. You could use Cornelius, Zira, Taylor, Nova, Zaius, Ursus, Brent and Caesar from the films and Urko, Galen, Virdon and Burke from the TV show. You could have a main image for each character and some smaller images taken from other films/episodes the character appeared in and/or other incarnations of that character (the Zaius page, for example, could have a large shot of Zaius from the first film, plus smaller shots from Beneath, a TV episode, the cartoon and even a shot of Heston as Thade's father in POTA2001 since according to some sources that was the character's name).

Also, I recently came across a new product that makes printing your own calendar really easy if you have a color inkjet printer. It's a kit that contains 15 sheets of two-sided photo paper with clear plastic covers. Sheets and covers are pre-punched to be comb-bound (comb included). Here's a link to a place that has them for sale on-line:

    Greg,

The kit says "Free, Design and print made easy", so I'm assuming it
comes with software to create the calendar. Looks like a good kit.

The idea for the images of the different characters is a good one,
but I wouldn't suggest having the main image be a close-up of the
character - I had one of Cornelius for 2004, and it was rather
boring after a couple days. So, maybe have a wider, more
interesting shot for the main pic with the character in it and
possible others, then the close up or mid shots for the smaller
pics. One of the more interesting months was a frame from a comic
with 3 soldiers in an underground stair way. There could also be a
month for "Soldiers" (that way we can still get some of the Foster
Bloke's art in there!), and "spaceships".

However, the "multiple images in one" on my original "small"
calendar may not work too well - the image is only about 3x4 inches
(7.62 X 10.16 cm). I wouldn't be opposed to doing both (with some
help). I'll do the small one anyway, because that's the one I would
    use at work.

Also, since the "big" calendar is printed from the software, I'm not
sure how it would get distributed and printed without having the
software. The "small" one can be distributed via a Word document.

    So now what?

Actually, we are working on a sequal, but since my co-author had to go in for knee surgery we haven't been able to get together (when she is cohernt) and write for a week or two. But we are almost finished and then we have at least another one after that too.

I would put them in a museum, as long as

I wonder how many actors in that hospital appreciate the statue

Just wanted to let everyone know that the group's posts for January
2004 have been deleted from the main site and can now be found in
the files section of the Archives group as a text file:

    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGrouparchives/

For those of you who are new to the group, we have to do this
periodically to free up space as Yahoo does not allot much space to
the groups anymore. As this group is so active we tend to fill up
very quickly and instead of losing old posts forever we like to keep
a copy of them all, so we had to start a few more groups to store
    excess stuff on.

One very important point - to access the old posts etc. you will
need to be a member of the Archives group. As we have recently had
to 'revamp' the group it will be necessary for all of those who were
previously members of the Archives to also (re)join.

The same is also true for the Fan Fiction and Photos groups:

    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGroupfanfiction/

    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDiscussionGroupphotos/

All the sites can be easily accessed via the links on each one's

Ive added pix of female possible gorilla tunic, this is not th eoutfit
worn in the funeral scene at all.The funeral scene appears to be a
chimp in a hooded outfit. These pix are of a prototype female
gorilla, the material is exactly the same as the green ones worn in
planet by female chimps, also the cuts inside exactly match so they
were made at the same time. The coloring matches the undersuits of the
gorillas leading to believe they were designed for female gorilla
costumes that were never made except for this one.
If anyone ever speaks of has contact with the costume
designer, please ask about the possibility of a female gorilla and
    what happened. goapebilly

In way of explanation, when James moved back to the POTA group one
of the many things he did before he left was clear out all the
reminders from the DG calendar and didn't let any one know that he

Not sure what is happening here? The site is working fine for me.

I'll email Chris and see if he can shed any light on the problems some are

Not for a very long time Greg! But it will be worth it.

However, that does not stop you, or anyone, from playing into our hands
    and speculating voluminously!

Admittedly, if it were any other forum his name might well slip much
    earlier in the piece.

However, part of the reason this strip exists is to inspire discussions,
theories and even (nice!) arguments about when it is set, where it is
set, who is involved, what the next twist will be etc. etc.

Who do you think it MIGHT be? Cornelius' dad? Galen's uncle (a
monkey's uncle - I mean an ape's uncle)? Or maybe the humanoids will
pop up and steal their book?

    Please feel free to speculate!

This story has really changed as it is written and delivered. It gets
better all the time. It is interactive and it lives and breathes on the
comments it derives. It seeks to deliver a fun distraction to fans and
promote discussion about the things we find interesting and important.

A lot of thought and planning goes into each step so if we screw
    anything up let us know!

I do think everyone is going to REALLY like the next chapter though and
coming soon will be two more charcters who you might recognise! At the
conclusion of the next 8 chapters you should have some idea where it all
    fits on the timeline.

Hope you all continue to enjoy these.

    Well,

A highlight of last Xmas was a card I received from Jeff K.

And that's got me to thinking it would be fun to do something with POTA

Now, I can hear Cougar coming because I know that he does not think it
is appropriate to adorn Dr. Zaius in a red Santa Cap. Or maybe that's
just for Xmas tree decorations? Cougar - ideas?

SO...what ideas do we have for DESIGN?

I think it would be super cool to do a movie themed design, a TV show
themed design, a return themed design and a Burton's POTA design.

It would be nice to get an artist, or a few different artists involved.

    Who wants to get involved?

Something I would strongly like to promote here is the unity of all
    POTA Yahoo!groups.

To me it is incredibly important that we all have a place and share
    our resources.

I would like to urge everyone here to join all the following groups
because I feel that, between them, they represent everything Planet
    of the Apes:

    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/POTA_Phenomenon/

    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/apechronicles/

    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/POTA/

The Friends and Fugitives site is for the TV Show only and you are
not encouraged to discuss the films/toons/pota2001.

However, on other occassions, I would like to ask that we all copy
our posts to each other's groups so nobody misses out.

If we all do these simple things it will go a long way towards all
of us going forward to build a community where we can honestly share
and enjoy all there is to be had.

Okay, I'll go out on a limb here and guess that Dr. Garvon's assistant is a younger Cornelius, but it's the Cornelius from Return and this story is set in that timeline, years prior to the arrival of Bill, Jeff and Judy (but not Brent, so we may be seeing him as well as a younger Nova at some point in your story).

Why do I think this? Well, the simpler style Neil's using for this strip feels very similar to the cartoon show. While you've both said this style is to allow Neil to get the strips done more quickly, that could be a cover story to prevent us from placing the story too early.

I also think there's a key clue in the very first panel of the first strip, where the tops of buried artifacts of human civilization peek out from the ground. This is very evocative of the ending of the fifth episode of the series (The Uneartly Prophecy), where Bill and Jeff try and rescue Judy from the Underdwellers. They fail, but when they leave the 'below world' they pass by a buried parking meter, and the vibrations of their footsteps cause the 'time expired' sign to appear.

Also, you seem to be a little preoccupied with the cartoon show lately. We know you recently sent a DVD copy to Neil, and I also recall you recently watched the entire series with your kids.

Finally, you use the term 'humanoids' in your post below, and that term was only used in the cartoon series.

So either 'fess up or start rewriting the next batch of strips! :)

Anyone know how or where to get larger images of the plans and
blueprints contained in the "Icarus Specs" folder in the Photos
section? (There are set plans in there with the spacecraft)

    Thanks,
    John O.

Hi John, good to hear your voice again!

The first 10 Icarus are a mystery to me!

All the others are blueprints that came in a set of exclusive goodies
from one of the US Telemarketing Stations.

Can someone rwmind me where the others came from?

    Actually I've got t!!

    HAAA HAAAA!!!

It's really not a character anyone's really seen yet... but it does have to do with the movie... it's the husband of the mourning chimp everyone's been yapping about!! Finally a back story for insignificant side role! To boot the good doctor is actualy the first serial psychokiller and this young chimp is just another notch on his belt!! Ohhhhhh the horror's in Mike and Niel's minds... the horrors.

Other than this PERFECT guess of mine.. I rock!

    Detective Plonowski,

That was really good deductive reasoning, but I hope you're wrong.
If you're right, then you just ruined the story!  But if you're
right, that would be cool.  Wagers, anyone?

The first 8 images of the Icarus blueprints look extremely similar to
the drawings available at Kennedy Shipyards:
http://www.kennedyshipyards.com (click movie sci-fi on the left side
bar). I'd have to say the drawings are the same, but with some
additions on the Kennedy Shipyards version.

Any larger images of the structural blueprints?

Oh yeah - they are ENORMOUS!

I'll try to re-scan and piece together the full image later - just for
    you John!
