Glad you're enjoying the UK comic scans. However, issue 12 does not begin the Beneath adaptation. It begins the Terror storyline, which will run through issue 19. The Beneath adaptation won't start until
issue 35, cover dated June 21.

Guys,
Sincre thanks for your sterling work scanning and presenting these mags.
I wait with bated breath for Issue 12 as that is the beginning of
Alfredo Alcala's BENEATH. IMHO some of the most beautiful comic book art I've ever seen.
Again, thanks.

the basic set is now easily available at cheap prices
but there were some extra cards that were randomly inserted and are much
much rarer
you can find them at ebay usually for $5.00 each on average

Off the top of my head - there were
RoddyTribute cards, Poster cards, and Autograph cards.
And there is a folder to put them
in.
I have the lot at home - I'll dig them

Yeah - I
don't think the bag would have stood up too well to aging.
But nor would
have much that we see in the POTA world (including Lady
Liberty!).

right there on film. If not Ape-made, she got it somehow. So, you
say it wasn't Ape-made. Here is another possibility. The options
so far:
1.) Ape-made
2.) previously belonging to Stewart -- or maybe Taylor ;)
3.) found somewhere on the planet, probably by Cornelius during an
arch--- (however you spell that) dig.
Any other ideas, guys?

4) A cheap bag thrown in with no thoughts as to what it would/should really look like in comparison to other APES made things we see... It's too bad they cut the budgets as each film went on, but they did, and that
bag is a casuality of the cost cutting measures...
No one ever said the bag wasn't supposed to be Zira's bag... The complaint from me is that when they made the film, NO ONE gave any consideration to designing a bag that looks like it "would" belong to

I would! I'd have it R -- and not the sort of R rated stuff
you
get on Skinamax. But the good solid R you get from a
major
motion picture, like Blade Runner or The Godfather. Is that
so
much to ask? Planet of the Apes was a major motion picture,
at least the first one was, when it was release. That's what I

For what it's worth, there was some nudity in one of the illustrations in
Saga magazine back in the 60s when they first printed the abridged
translation of Boulle's novel. Then again, it was a mag aimed at men so I
guess it's all about your target audience.

I remember there being Bubblegum Cards for POTA in the 70's, but I did'nt

Hi all,
There's a new Mego site up at www.megocentral.com that's a nice
companion to the Mego Museum ( http://www.megomuseum.com/). Check it out
when you've got some time to poke around, and definitely check out the
Collector's Corner (link on the top of the homepage) and the Micronauts link (on
the lower right side of the homepage) to be taken to some incredible collection
photographs.
If there are members here from any of the other POTA Yahoo groups, I'd
appreciate it if you could cross-post this message.

Hi John,
In the shooting script Lucius asks "Those scarecrows... who put
them up?" To which Zira replies, "The hunt club."
"To scare off humans?"
To scare us too, we're entering the Forbidden Zone now."
There don't appear to be any scarecrows in the cornfields so
they would indeed appear to be for marking borders - not for crop
protection.

I got my Zira today. The sculpt and paint are excellent.
The clothes are off a bit. The hobble skirt is light green
instead of brown. Also the shoes are green instead of
brown as well. As was mentioned already the half moon
is off, but the jacket has snaps instead of Velcro. Though
the skirt has Velcro in the back and it's sewn to the top.
Perhaps they brown fabric was more costly and they
used the green to save money. Maybe they just didn't
really pay attention to the color scheme, but it's so
detailed I have a hard time believing that. The flexibility
is there, so much so that she has a hard time standing
up. The hands and feet spin 360 degrees. But if you
lean her forward a bit it helps as long as you don't bump
the desk or table. I recommend Alter Ego. With the
money you save it's like getting free shipping. And I
do love a bargain. Just save that invoice number.

Beethoven ape. There's even a 12'' Rebel Ape as well-
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1345&item=5920582183
I like SSUR's idea of combing those two icons. (Well, plus it's apes
related) Goes to show how far Apes has become a familiarity in our
culture (or pop culture at least).
PS- I made my own Che Ape image from a different ape photo (in order
to get the right head angle). It's alot crisper and bolder than the
one at Ape Mania, and sizable enough for T-shirts. I didn't post it
because the idea's been done already, but if anyone wants to see it
I'll upload it. Along with the alternate version with "Fight Like
Apes" text.

I was just checking out the accessories that are included.
The pencil and pad are just a rubber prop. The pencil is
attached and stretches the pocket in an annoying way.
I might separate the two to fix that problem. The pad
should probably be cut down a little too. There are
two scrolls, also rubber props. The one in the case
doesn't come out. Just looks like a bottle or something.
Which wouldn't be a bad prop for Zira with her drinking
problem and all. The paper airplane is folded in a high
tech design that was unknown until the mid-seventies,
so I unfolded it and folded it into a classic paper air
plane design like the film. Neither will fly anyway due
to their size. The best prop is the note. Very realistic.

.html As I'm home sick from work (the flu? Some contagion sent by aliens?)
I popped in the 35th anniversary POTA disc and watched it. As I did I
realized that I could watch this, not just a great SF film, but a
great American movie, back to back to back and never get bored of it.
It's simply that good. It also got me thinking:
I never saw POTA or BTPOTA in their original run. I saw both on CBS
when CBS made a big deal about it showing them on Friday Nights.
The first Apes film I saw in the theater was Escape. It was on a
double bill with The Games, some film about the Olympics.
(I saw Escape and later Battle at The Beverly, a now gone theater in
Brooklyn. I saw Conquest at a drive in with my folks. I think the
bottom of the double feature was When Dinosaur Ruled the Earth or The
Hot Rock, I don't rememeber).
I finally saw POTA on a double bill when Battle was released. Later I
got to see Beneath when I celebrated graduating from Junior High. It
was the "GO APE" festival of all five. They were shown in this order;
Escape, Conquest, Battle, Planet Beneath.
Even now, years later I'm not a big fan of the TV show. Fox should
have put a little more money and time into creating it.
Anyone still have some Megos? I wish I did. I do have a bunch of
Medicoms, all three apeonats, Urus, Urko, Aldo, The conquest Gorilla,
Lucuis, three gorilla soldiers (one from the TV Show) and Taylor.
I think Medicom did a great job.
I remember being vaugely annoyed at Fox remaking/rethinking POTA and
I really hated the remake. It would have been more tolerable with out
that stupid ending. It is true that the DVD came with an explanation
for the ending? <.html

Fox learned their lesson about painting themselves into a corner

surprise ending. It seemed almost a direct ripoff of the

I uploaded 2 versions btw, each with a different font. I had to
change the dimensions as well from 72 dpi at around 20 inches tall to
200 dpi to around 7 inches tall. I haven't tried creating a vector
version yet, but this one's pretty clear on it's own for now.

In fact the only one I ever did have was Galen, way back in time. I
haven't got a clue what happened to him though I suspect, much like
my UK comics, my Mum got rid of him (and all my Action Man figures
and accessories) as I had become 'too old for stuff like that'

Yes. I just got the Sideshow Zira and Cornelius today. Cornelius comes with a nice little reproduction of his map. I haven't taken them out of their boxes yet.

There's also a plastic placard that comes
with the accessories. It has a thing that
looks like it's meant to hold the figure up
and place it in a slot on a larger display.
Anyone know anything about that? <.html <.html

Loose. I couldn't justify the $130 or so for the sealed, which was
the average price of them back then ('98 or so is when I first started
buying on eBay). I haven't looked very recently to see what they're
going for; the last time I looked, there weren't any on the cards.
You can see the Cornelius and Galen figures in the picture at the top
of my PotA web page.

I don't think the game is that great looking.... It's nothing I'd go outta my way to buy or own... It looks like the kid's game "Chutes and Ladders" or something like that...

WELCOME YOURSELF! LOL! ;-)
I remember there being Bubblegum
Cards for POTA in the 70's, but I did'nt get into the programme till I
saw the re-run of the TV Series in the late 70's, so I did'nt collect
the Cards back then.
AWE SHAME THAT, MINE WERE FROM THE TV SHOWS FROM 1974! BUT I'M 6 YEARS
OLDER THAT YOU! LOL!

Who else here has got their Sideshow Zira and Cornelius? I've opened mine. I have to say that I continue to be disappointed with the clothes. I don't understand why they're not more
accurate. The glyphs are very badly done and the one on my Zira figure is upside-down! The Hasbro Zira had the same problem! What's up with that? Luckily I can cut it off and then sew it back on
the right way, but jeez! Also, I've cut a quarter of an inch of Cornelius' inner sleeves. They're just too long, plus I've frayed the cuffs of both figures as they should be, but again
something's wrong and that's the color. Both cuffs should be darker. It says on the box that these figures are made in China. Well, someone from Sideshow should go visit China and kick some
Asian butt! Do they hate Apes or something?

Both cuffs

So far I've gotten Zaius and Zira. Both of their costumes seem a tiny
bit too big. I can only attribute this to the fact that Sideshow
recently came out with newer shorter bodies, which these POTA figures
have. I think the outfits were probably designed for the original,
taller bodies and they never adjusted them.
The colors are a bit off on both. Zaius'outfit should be a bolder
orange and Zira's shoes need to be brown and her skirt should be a
darker brown.
These figures are still pretty darn good. I've customized a lot of
1/6 scale figures before, so I can make the necessary adjustments if
I want them to be absolutely perfect, but I think they're close
enough. I may just leave them as is.

Yeah, these are supposed to be 12" figures, but it's more like 11 and a half. They should have knocked off a few bucks on the price!
