There are many advantages. The first is that PDF isn't controlled by
Microsoft. 8-) There are free PDF viewers for practically every major
system out there, whereas not all systems can run Microsoft Word.
Word documents are also susceptible to Word macro viruses, whereas
PDFs are not (AFAIK).

But mostly it's the portability factor---you don't have to have
Microsoft Word to print the PDFs, just a free PDF viewer.

Dozens. I've personally seen versions based on Star Wars (several
different ones---the original trilogy, the new movies), Spider-Man,
The Lord of the Rings, Disney, The Simpsons, Elvis, and Coca-Cola.

Some are put out by Hasbro (who owns Parker Bros. now), but there's
a company called USAopoly that apparently has a license to release all
kinds of different-themed Monopoly games (and others). You can see
them here;

If you click on the "Out of print" link, you'll see the hundred or so
other versions they've done:

You didn't get Simpsons Monopoly Hunter! Neil, let's rename the Bounty
Hunter - he's unclean!!! ;)

I actually love the different versions but I do agree with Hunter - they
have taken it too far! However I think a POTA version would be SUPER
cool.

Parker Bros. (or whoever owns them now) has gone way overboard with
their specialized versions of Monopoly. The first one or two ("Star
Wars") were really cool---and unusual. Now they've put out dozens of
special versions, and it's just become an obvious grab for money from
suckers. (Yes, I realize that that's what selling the games has
always been about, but they're completely diluting the novelty. I
bought the "Star Wars" version when it came out, then the "Disney"
version, but I'll never buy another one, even if they were to release
an "Apes" version.

Here's how it would go.  You make your way from the lake to the pool.  Every time you miss a question you move closer to the corn field and build another part of the trap.  If you miss too many POTA trivia questions you spring the trap and get hauled off to the Vets where Dr. Galen operated on you.  Then a roll of the dice determines whether you get your throat fixed, or lobotomized.

The types of games I like are quiz bowl stuff
and games with gadgets.  I think it would be
easy to adapt the games I suggested to POTA.
The changes would be superficial and cosmetic.

I've seen those! They're excellent, just grab some larger sized paper
for them (I had to print mine out on letter size).

It's funny that this was brought up, I've been making a Cornelius
paper model for the group (chimp suit and ape-o-naut version). I used
someone else's template of a robot paper model, but I heavily altered
it. I may have to sign off with the creator, but since I'm giving it
out for free hopefully he'll be cool about it.

I've tried to find a Statue of Liberty model suitable enough to alter
into a diorama. There is a Liberty model, but it's too small and it's
not too detailed graphics wise. There may be a solution though.

I downloaded them all ages ago but still haven't got round to making

I dug out a Bernie Wrightson art book of mine and scanned the pages of
his Beneath parody.

I tried to upload these as PDFs, but they're coming out sorta large.

Neil,

I only tried my hand at one of the crashed Icaruses so far. It's not
so much hard as it is time consuming, but some of the curved areas are
little tricky. I used cardstock, and scored all the folds with an
exacto knife to make things easier.

Eventually I'd like to do the the others, including Brent's ship which
still isn't up for download sadly.

Yeah, that's what he's saying... A lot of people talked big that they were interested, they were going to buy, they wanted it, etc. But when it came time to actually pay for it , then things changed real quick... Kind of like what happened with the Heston cards and the re-issued Medicoms... No wonder Rittenhouse is very hesitant to do a set of new APES cards... Can you blame them? You get people saying things, but when it actually comes to fruition they're no where to be seen... If you look at the stats Whitty offered on the BTB print, less than 20% of the people that said they were going to buy actually did... Who'd want to deal with making a product that won't even hit those type of sales?

KINSHASA (Reuters) - Five of the few northern white rhinos left in
the wild will be flown from Democratic Republic of Congo to prevent
poachers wiping them out, conservationists said on
Saturday.

Fewer than 10 of the rhinos are believed to remain and with heavily
armed poachers carrying out frequent raids in the wilds of
northeastern Congo, moving the beasts to sanctuary in Kenya is
deemed the only option to guarantee their survival.

Actually more than 5 people should have the poster / print. We only
sold about 5 or so but others were given away as prizes and such.
Still it was a pretty poor showing given the initial interest.

So if anyone else wants to buy one we have a few spares still. ;-)

have done with a 'serious' Apes strip and not just a parody.

It would also be great if we had the space to have larger versions
of this great art but this is much better than never having seen it
at all, which is what is great about these groups, there always
seems to be something that wasn't known about or seen before that we

That may be so, but as far as all the talkers that said they "were interested", I'd be pissed... I mean sure a few prints might be out there as prizes, but how about all those that were supposed to be boughten by those who claimed they would? If they're not going to follow thru, then why even waste your time (and their own) by saying they wanted it, when it's obvious they were talking outta their a*ses...

It's people like that that ruin it for everyone... Are these same people also going to say that they'd buy new APES comics if they become available, only to leave them in the comic stores if they do? Are they going to say "Oh, I'd buy a special edition of CONQUEST if they had one" only to leave it set at the store if FOX would release the uncut version? My guess is yes... That's a big reason we have little (if any) new APES products, no company is going to want to lose money...

Neil,

Bernie ranks high with me as well, he was one of the earliest artists
I adored since his Swamp Thing days. And I agree, he probably would
have done a great job on a straightforward Apes story. I wonder if
he's an Apes fan?

If Hunter wants to host the PDF files, he can gladly have them. He has
the other Apes parodies so this would fit right in. According to Marv
Wolfman's intro in the book, the Apes piece was written for some
unnamed humor mag from ACE books. Might've never been published but I
wish I knew the title. (BTW, the editor reworked the script and
botched up the punchlines, according to MW)

As for the groups, ya there's a slew of things I haven't seen before I
joined! I almost wondered if this Bernie parody was already seen
before considering the broad range of material many fans have come across.

He doesn't need a name... If anything, they should have called him a Hunter, rather than a Marauder... If you want to name him on your own, that's one thing, but to have the group as a whole choose a name for a generic character is weird...

Well, it's not so much that it is a weird thing to want to name him, but to have the people in the group that own him "voting" for a name to a generic Gorilla is weird... I mean he is not supposed to represent any one Gorilla, he is "any" of them... I guess that to name him would be a personal choice... Let's say that more people would choose the first name in your poll than the third choice, then whoever chose the third one didn't choose the right name?

As I said, it's not so much a right or wrong thing... I am just getting at it being all a personal choice...

Anyway, as far as basing a story on a "marauding" Gorilla, that's fine... But would the one that SideShow made be the basis for the story? I mean there are so many Gorillas in POTA that anyone of them could have a story based on him... And, that SideShow Gorilla represents all of them anyway... And, technically, you could say that BEWARE THE BEAST was a story of a "marauding" Gorilla... There already was s tory based on that type of Gorilla...

I spoke to Michael on the phone today to thrash out some ideas for
the various comic projects we have going and what we need to know
from you good folks is what you would prefer.
Which would you rather see more of, 'Within' or the new TV
comic 'Going Home'?
We need to know so we know which one to focus our energies on most so
we would really appreciate you all letting us know.

Thanks in advance,

Neil,

I think you should get Within finished (really quickly) and dole out
one strip per week while you focus on "Going Home"!

A lot of people pooh pooh remakes.  But I was just taking a long hard squint at Dangerous Female and The Maltese Falcon is a virtual word for word remake of it. And only a scant 10 years later, and it's considered a classic.  I'm looking ahead to a proper POTA Remake, and not a Reimagining

The only way that could happen is if the timeline started by Caesar in CONQUEST leads to females having "equality", because in the timeline of the TV series up to the time of PLANET/BENEATH there was not going to be anything like that...

If it was equal back then, then they wouldn't have had to disguise themselves now would they? Equality has A LOT (if not everything) to do with it... The APES society, like many of the eastern nations today are not about to allow their females to go to combat... (Or to go "marauding")... In the case of the Rittenhouse cards, I think more people were
interested until they found out it was what - 9 cards of Heston for
$20? I heard that and lost interest. If they want to do cards of
Heston movies, then fine, but it's not Planet of the Hestons, it's
planet of the Apes (not to take anything away from his performance).
And NINE cards? Weren't there 9 cards in a pack for 25 cents (or was
it 10) back in the 70's?

Not sure what this means. You're still going to finish each, but one
might have stick figure apes?

If I HAD to pick, I guess I'd go with 'Playmate of the Apes'... oh
wait, that was a different question.

From what Shitty (ha! must have been a Freidan typing slip, sorry
Mike), I mean Whitty was saying, it sounded like you guys had
something planned after 'Going Home', so maybe you should finish
up 'Within', then concentrate on 'Going Home'. Michael could
probably do something with the script to speed it up, as well - if
you guys just wanted to be done with it. I'm not suggesting ending
it in the next two strips.

I enjoy them both, so I really can't pick.

I agree, I'd like to see the ending of "Within" before embarking on
the full journey of the fugitives. Because I've found when I'm
writing stories that if I don't finish one and start on a new one I
probaly won't finish the other. And I'd really like to see the

I've heard about balance issues, and I've heard that over time, the
adhesive on the label might eat through the discs. I don't know how
likely either is, but I've never put a label on a disc, just in case.
However, I do have some discs that were given to me that have labels,

What have I seen to presume not all apes are equal: Lack of female Gorillas and Orangs for one... Had they been "equals" they would have been seen in public, not all "hidden at home"... Chimp females are out in with the males of their species because they are fighting for their equality... The other two species seem to keep their females on the homefront...

What evidence do you see in the films to make you think that all the females are "equals" and making strides in their society?
