OK, well let's just get real. The fact is I write everything that "Kassidy
Rae" has written. "Where's Jeff?" "Why doesn't he write for "Ape Chronicles"
anymore"? It's because I've been busy writing under the moniker "Kassidy
Rae". Why don't you just admit it, "Kassidy Rae"? And stop taking bows for
work you didn't do? - - - Jeff

Have you ever had anything, such as an original story, publish
professionally?

I have enjoyed talking with you and Theresa tonight, Kass, and I
definitely want to thank you both for spending time with us this
evening. I'm sorry to leave, but I have to get som zzzz's. I'm
going to go back tomorrow and take a few notes on what you've said.

(And thanks for all your help this week, Kass. You've been an
inspiration! Visit us often!)

yes. Dave Ballard started something called "Last War". In it, Al
and Pete are older. They're both leaders, but ON DIFFERENT SIDES.
It's amazing. I've harrassed and fussed and reminded and flattered
really hard for his last two fics, and I'm prepared to go another
round. Poor fella. He knows I won't stop hounding him. I think he
was trying to kill Galen off and lost his nerve. he said he
couldn't write the thing because he wanted them to go on having
adventures, wandering the countryside and if he writes this maybe he
can't go back.

So I told him, it's your story. If you can't bear to tear them
apart, don't do it. Tell us a rousing good story, worry us to
death, tear them up six ways to Sunday and then fix it all. Every
bit.

I'm prepared to wait, though. I can be patient.

Okay, time for me to go. I appreciate your asking me in as a guest.
You and the ladies have been the best, and everyone on the group has
been wonderful. Take care.

Oh and John, I'm glad you now enjoy fan fiction, courtesy of BtB.

Kasey, I've had three things published. None of them in large
magazines, but I got paid for them. One of them coming out this
month, supposedly.

Thanks for asking.

Can't wait to see more of your work, Kasey! I enjoyed talking with
you.

Good night, ya'll.

Kasey, I've had three things published. None of them in large
magazines, but I got paid for them. One of them coming out this

Thanks for asking.

Can't wait to see more of your work, Kasey! I enjoyed talking with
you.

Good night, ya'll.

Wow! There are quite a few responses to this poll. I'm impressed!
I'm surprised by the number of people who have responded that Zaius
is keeping the most secrets, though. Don't you get it? That's what
they want you to think! But, there's something the writer's aren't
telling you. That's it!!! THEY are keeping the most secrets.

Why do you say Hasslein, Amy?

If they make a sequel to the 2001 Planet of the Apes movie, would
they use Chubbs or is he too old? It's not nice to use him in the
movie and then dump him into a cheap little crumby place. Don't we
have some responsibility to him as fans of the Planet of the Apes,
even if we didn't like the 2001 movie?

Subject: Re: Mike's questions re: the tv show
.html
.html Sorry for jumping in a bit late on the "Fanfic" special thread (couldn't 'tune-in' live last night), but....

I used to think that the biggest problem with the TV series, was the 'fugitive' aspect of the episodes, but Kass makes a great point. The more I thought about it, there more I realized that there have been plenty of shows that used the format successfully.

Think even of shows such as the X-files in which about half of the episodes were oriented on a mystery 'occurence' and Mulder and Scully would zip off to solve the mystery. Both characters were ridgely cast (sceptic vs believer) which you would assume would bog down the show. But, the WRITTING made all the difference. It was always about what they discovered that differered from week to week and how the characters interacted. It was about intelligent dialogue, and the injection of a sense of humour when appropriate.

Even for those few POTA episodes that were made, we all have some that we favor over others, because, in essence, they were different from one another in some way. I think "The good seeds" is my favorite episode, but the framework in which it is set is typical of the 'fugitive' scenario. What makes it interesting for me was the characters the 3 fugitives encountered in this particular episode and how they all learned a few things.

So, I now believe that the format can be applied succesfully as long as other aspects of the series are treated with novel ideas and sound interesting writting.

PS: Let me also take a moment to give Kudos to the girls for 'taking over' this past week. It's been a blast and I've enjoyed every minute of it, even though, I haven't been as active as I would have liked.

++It's very popular to put the tv show down (though I'm not
inferring that you are doing so) by calling it a fugitive type
show.  I don't regard that as a bad thing in itself, unlike LOTS of
folks.  How long was "The Fugitive" itself on?  Was it a bad show?
No.  The quality of the writing, more than this formula itself,
makes or breaks a show.  But there's more to it than that.  there's
scheduling, advertisement, lots of behind the scene station
finageling (sp?)-- all that has to do with it and more.  So to
answer your question, no, I don't think it HAD to die an early death
because of the "chase, catch, escape" formula.  It had to have good
writing, and that's it, IMO.  Good actors they already had.

I would've posted this anyway, but it's actually fitting that the
Ladies have taken over just in time for this.

Here's some art I did.. It was for Art.com's Frida Kahlo contest, but
since I heard about it five days before the deadline, and because
their online submission system sucks, it was never entered. This
isn't the first Frida art I've done, but it is the first Frida piece
that includes Cornelius!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/verde1/04ab0d3d.jpg

Babbling rant:
I'm a fan of Frida's work (and Apes), and since we're having the
DGMarauders theme, Frida's perfect since she was an adopted icon of
feminism. I disagree with the "Queen of Pain" label people have given
her, because it seems to define her in negative terms. Passion and
endurance still counts for something, even if she wasn't totally
idealic in all aspects of her life. Either way I prefer portraying her
in a more positive, warm light. And Cornelius is added to boot,
because it just felt right at the time. Enjoy!

This is a tune Zira is singing while she is in the spaceship going back in
time to earth.

On The Earth Again (sung to On The Road Again by Willie Nelson)

On the Earth again
I can't wait to get on the Earth again
Up here with my simian mate
I can't wait to get on the Earth again

On the Earth again
I can't wait to get on the Earth again
Low gravity's making my uterus droop
Soon I'll be cleaning baby chimp poop
I can't wait to get on the Earth again

Dr Zaius is a fool
He should let humans and apes rule
But oh noooooo
So here we are in space
With a billion light years to go

I can't wait to get on teh Earth again!

Psych meds I won't take
But slaughtering humans
Is my destiny
So onward I go

Come here humans
And those who defend them
I'll put you in slavery
And brand you a low life

I Thade the general
I rule the planet
Cross me and you die

Chimps and gorillas
Off to war we go
Fighting humans
all day long
My daddy is Chuck Heston

My acting is better

They would have lived in in communes in caves like the one on the

The guys would have worn blue leather overalls (no shirts) and the

mom was here today reaading (humming) your songs and thought the one

At the risk of going off topic! (smack my butt!!) ;-)

Talking about Star Trek songs, how about William Shatner's recent Album he did with The Ben Folds Five??!! It's completely insane!!!!!!!!

You are right Elaine, POTA should have loads of songs!! Shame we can't get someone to record your songs for us? How about you sing them for us and upload them to the files section? ;-)

Hi Mike,

This piece of art is amazing,  thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Yours Truly  2005,

Kuiama.

From: "Mike"  <doctahoot@...>

Enjoy!

Mike

I wonder what would happen if there ended up being a sequal to 2001.
I picture it starting out where 2001 left off....Instead of seeing
the statue of Abraham Lincoln, you see a statue of Thade, the
aggresive, warrior chimpanzee.

What about the astronuat? He's standing on the steps, mouth gaping,
wide-eyed, etc., (Gorilla police standing behind him) and you follow
his gaze to......Thade? You're thinking, "This isn't right! How did
HE get there?" Well, something definately happened back there at
that ape war. No one knows for sure...
Does anyone have ideas? I would love to hear them!!

I've said before that the sequel should follow Ari,
Attar etc. instead of Leo. The apes are the more
interesting characters.

Welcome Ironman!

You have stumbled upon the group in the week it has been taken over by the DG Marauders, that's a bunch of us female Ape fans on the group.

You have sadly missed some great chats with some guests, you should read the archives to see what has happened this past week and keep your eye's peeled for some more fun coming!

That's all I am saying, you have to wait and see what we have planned!

I agree that the apes are more interesting characters. (It would
ape-pear that even Elaine thinks so!) They could ditch Thade, too,
since he apparently landed in the cement mixer at some statue
factory.

Are you talking about the "Fear of Pop" album they did in 1998 or
have they got back together to do a more recent project that I have
not heard about. I loved the Fear of Pop stuff. It was just as weird
as the early Shatner stuff and it showed he has a good sense of humor
about it all. I wish more Planet of the Apes stars had recorded music
back in the 70's. Hell, they let everyone record albums back then! I
do have Roddy singing on the soundtrack for Camelot. I always picture
Galen bursting into song when I listen to it. Hehehe.

Just finished reading Simian Scrolls 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best yet ,wonderful articles about "Escape", the restoration of the Latin American
Apes TV comics, Interviews with Mike Ploog, sideshow and Jerry Pournelle, a wondefull "Milo" apes comic strip story(great artwork) and some great (and new) merchandise.

Colour cover. Apes newspaper free..........It’s the best yet!

Just re-read what I have written and I honestly don’t work for Simian Scrolls in any way.

Thank you to all concerned at Sim/Scrolls. It has made my week if not month.

Hello Michael
I have contacted SIdeshow, US side, buy email and phone about their
future ape releases and I get the same answer, when I do get one, as
you. I think they are keeping a tight lid on the future releases for
some reason. I did see where the Special Edition Soldier Ape is now
sold out on the site so maybe the sales are picking up and we will
get more APES!!!!

Sideshow kindly agreed to answer some questions for Scrolls
and they were wonderfully courteous, giving and enthusiastic -
but quite rightly would NOT reveal any future marketing plans. In
business "loose lips sink ships".

However the guy I corresponded with did say that they are always
open to suggestions and revealed that TV based characters "Are
a possibility if there's enough interest'.

My advice, if there's a particular figure you want to see, write and
make sure they know about it.

You have sadly missed some great chats with some guests, you should read the archives to see what has happened this past week and keep your eye's peeled for some more fun coming!

Hi Michael,

ELO and The Move family Tree's are my specialist subject, Magnus Manusson eat your heart out!! Lol!

I'm not sure about the Hedgehog named Spiny Norman, someone else started that one.

I wonder if they were on about Norman Wisdom and his character that would always be working for a Mr Grimsdale, and they got it slightly wrong and said Dinsdale?

Well, that's what it made me think of anyway.

WOW!

I really didn't have a clue…..this is some fairly obscure stuff you two Poms!

So what's the reference to a giant hedgehog named "Spiny Norman" calling out to "Dinsdale Piranha"?

Michael

Hi Helen,

Cherry Blossom Clinic is a song by The Move that is about a Mental Institution, they were very popular here in the UK in the 60's and they come from Birmingham (Not the Alabama one!! Lol!)

There are 2 versions, the original was recorded in 1967 and the "Revisited" version was recorded in 1970.

Ofcourse, The Move went on to become The Electric Light Orchestra in 1971.

Yours Truly 2005,

Kuiama.
