If you ever want to see the first ever Paul Williams movie watch The Loved

stars. So many it's like It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, with a hint of
Eraser Head in the scenes with Rod Steiger. . In fact one of the
Stars from IAMMMMW is in it. It's just plain strange. It's kind
of like another Terry Southern film Dr. Strange Love, only without the
Bomb. It's over the top!
Here are the notable ones . . .

.htmlIt looks like a fun movie. On your recommendation, I slipped it in
at number 3, so I expect we'll have it by next Friday or Saturday.
Now, if it was a musical, that would be even better!! (I'm doing
musicals with the kids for school this year.)
Thanks, Rory.

.htmlOK. I should have done this to start with. I looked it up on
IMDB. So, you know my family? Not much information, but this
sounds like a lot of fun! And, with a rocking band and an IMDB
comment that mentions lipsynch, I'm guessing it could be a musical.
You said immediately, so I'm moving it to number one. Does Roddy
sing?

Helen
It pretty much is a kid's movie, and it does have music, a band, two of the members of which is Lou Wagner and a young Richard Dreyfuss. HELLO DOWN THERE isn't that good a movie, but it's somewhat
amusing -- and you get to see Roddy and Lou together in the same scenes without the ape makeup and as they looked in those days.

Might have without knowing it, I guess. The kids watch Unlikely
Angel over and over just to catch Roddy. I think that may have been
his last movie. Do you know?

No, I haven't seen this movie in more than thirty years, and I'm waiting for the DVD from Blockbuster on-line rentals, but I remember that Roddy was a record studio head that the band try to have sign them.

Roddy's last movie was A BUG'S LIFE, but that was just his voice. I'll have to look on IMDB.com to figure out what the last film was he appeared in.
Helen, here's a link to the best website devoted to Roddy McDowall. Check it out: http://www.xmoppet.org/

I have the record for the original
production of "Camelot", where Roddy sings "The Seven Deadly Virtues". This was
a favorite production of John F. Kennedy's. I think he listened to the record a
lot in the White House. When he was assassinated, Jackie dubbed the Kennedy era
Camelot. Also, Franklin J. Schaffner directed the famous TV tour of the Kennedy
White House. - - - Jeff

Nothing against them, but they are not the Great Apes
as those on POTA are... Even a search online will tell you that they aren't in the Great Apes "family".... They are not even defined as such. The World Book Online Reference Center says:
Scientific classification. Gibbons make up the lesser ape family, Hylobatidae.
The way they'd affect the POTA is that they would just be thrown in there for the sake of being there, even though they have no place on it...

with Richard Harris as King Arthur and Vanessa Redgrave as
Guenevere. (Thanks to Rory for the Roddy site. I was able to
locate Roddy's Camelot appearance as Mordred at the Majestic on
Broadway, Dec. '60 to Sept. '61.) I was talking with the kids about
the Kennedy's and we were trying to figure out how the Kennedy era
became referred to as "Camelot." We had some thoughts, but I will
share this bit of information with the kids. Thanks for letting us
know about Roddy's part in the Broadway production. Very timely
information!

I was discussing this with Neil yesterday –
the ludicrous prices POTA items have been getting…..but Rittenhouse IS doing another card set and Sideshow ARE
doing more figures, so maybe they have the equation to reveal how many ape fans
there are, which ones will spend how much and carry a product for the others
who will wait for an eBay bargain!
For the first time EVER, I have WAITED for
the Sideshow figures….and guess what? I can get the first 4 for $70!

Lou Wagner was also in an episode of "Lost in Space." (I believe he was painted green and had pointed ears.) He was also the "hamburglar" on the old McDonald's TV commercials, but of
course he wore a mask for those. He was also the nerdy teenager in the original AIRPORT movie.

I do remember one Donahue where Charlton Heston was on and some lady in the audience called POTA juvenile and Heston was kind of taken aback. I was glad to see that he defended the original movie as something meant

stores. There's a big picture of his smiling mug on the cover. I think it's
called "Donahue" from 1981. (Amazon has a listing but no picture) . - - -

As he should, because it very much IS an "adult" film... It's as the series went on that they got "juvenile" in ways, but PLANET is lumped in with them, so it gets spit on too... PLANET is a
masterpiece, people tend to forget that...<.html

Yes, that's true, they are definitely endangered, which is too bad... Because when their habitats are being destroyed, not only are the gibbons losing their home but many other animals are their's too, not to
mention all the trees and plant life, etc. that is lost... It's a mess...<.html

Yeah, it hurts me deep inside to see the subsequent sequels
turned into fodder for Saturday Matinees. That's why I am the
most ardent advocate for an Adult Apes. And it could be done
without turning it into Planet Of The Rapes or some X rated
version. Though I wouldn't mind a good solid R rating on it.

.htmlOk. I don't know Richard Jaeckel, either, but I did look him up.
It seems he's been busy, too. No picture, though. Seems if these
guys are this busy there should be a picture!!
Makes sense to me, LT. Thanks.
Still lost in space,

No, it's not Peter Jackson and it's not Fay
Wray. I said they should get Fay Wray but I guess they didn't think that was
feasible. She didn't want to do the remake either. She wasn't against it, she
just said he was an icon and didn't need her. Jackson wanted her to say the last
line in his film: "'Twas beauty killed the beast". Wasn't to be. - - -

Remake cameo's are cheap nostalgia.
I didn't think much of Heston's cameo.
Zanuck didn't even ask Kim to do one.
And it's just as well. She told me she
didn't much care for the film -- though
she didn't think much of Beneath either.

ChubbsChubbs, who loved to blow kisses to our investigator, was often sad and depressed. He reportedly appeared in several episodes of Monkey Movies, on Animal Planet, and in the remake of
Planet of the Apes.
I hope the pictures come through. Chubbs presently resides at Amarillo Wildlife Refuge. A search brings up some interesting stuff.

Yeah, producers say a lot of things, most of it shite.
Let's look at the facts. The film was shite. Kim knew it.
Even if it had been good I doubt you could pay her enough
to get back in make up. Zanuck knew it was shite. If he
didn't he's even thicker than I give him credit for. Hell, he
helped make it shite. If Burton didn't have the balls to
stand up to the studio suits, then Zanuch should have had
his back. The film had no legs and tanked, and Kim died
a year later. It wasn't meant to be, and it's for the best.
After she injured herself in that fall she was in now shape
to do the sequel. And Fox was in no shape to make a
sequel of a movie that wasn't wildly successful. And
the movie it's self though it was left open for one, want
up to snuff. It'll take 'One Hell Of A Sequel' to pull that
turd out of the toilet! But that's just like my opinion, man!
