Actually, in the TV series, you do see various animal pelts around, so at that time in their history anyway, they may have hunted animals for sport.... <.html

.htmlMichael- No, I won't be going back to that strip, unforunately, for a
few reasons. It was fun and good teamwork, as of course you know
from your work with Neil/Dave, but any future POTA projects I do,
whether that be art or anything else, will be "one-offs" rather than
anything continual. I believe Terry told me that another artist was
interested, but don't quote me on that. I've heard very little about
the project/feedback since Terry released the strips that were
completed. I hope it does continue, Terry wrote a decent story.

I saw in a toy magazine that McFarlane Toys
has the license for the Simpsons. Todd McFarlane is a confessed POTA fan. Why
Palisades snagged the toy license before he got it I don't know. But here's
another chance for POTA Musical figures (including "Dr. Zauis, Dr. Zauis"?).
Playmates had a long "Simpsons" run but no such luck. The stated reason was that
POTA and Simpsons are separate licenses both owned by Fox and never the twain
shall meet. But with McFarlane being a fan, maybe he'll squeak by somehow. The
plans are for "boxed sets" this summer and individual figures in '06.
Simpsons might seem like an odd license for
McFarlane, who's rep is built on excellent representations of live action
characters. But they've done cartoons before ("Shrek") and they've got "Wallace
and Gromit" and our old friend Tim Burton's stop-motion "The Corpse Bride" for
this year. - - - Jeff

.html I recall from urban legend that every great ape has been found to
eat meat except for the Bonobo.
Cows in some barren wasteland fed on animals. Scientists wondered
how the herds survived when at times there was little vegetation.
When they went to study they found bones in bovine poo and
apparently found cows chewing on little animals they had caught. The
borderline between herbivore and carnivore is not as green and red
as vegans would espouse over a bowl of scrambled tofu.
I would conclude that talking apes would eat meat regularly. So much
of language discourse revolves around food. Once "double dare" can
be mumbled, it's only a matter of time before everything that can be
eaten is eaten. As George Carlin said, "how hungry did a man have to

"Meat is a favored food item among chimpanzees "
"At first, the Gombe chimps fled whenever they saw Jane. But she
persisted, watching from a distance with binoculars, and gradually
the chimps allowed her closer. One day in October 1960 she saw
chimps David Graybeard and Goliath strip leaves off twigs to fashion
tools for fishing termites from a nest. Scientists thought humans
were the only species to make tools, but here was evidence to the
contrary. On hearing of Jane's observation, her mentor Louis Leakey
said: "Now we must redefine tool, redefine man, or accept
chimpanzees as humans."
Also in her first year at Gombe, Jane observed chimps hunting and
eating bushpigs and other animals, disproving theories that
chimpanzees were primarily vegetarians and fruit eaters who only
occasionally supplemented their diet with insects and small rodents."

certainly not all muslims pray each day facing mecca, nor do all christians attend church each sunday.
likewise, it seems reasonable (to me) that an ape might differentiate the words "kill" and "murder" and thereby find a justifiable reason to take the life of another ape.
also, what would an isolated ape culture be like if they never heard anything about the lawgiver?
maybe we need a pota fan fic story about missionaries :)

I understand that it isn't totally unknown of for chimps to kill
other chimps. Does anyone know about this? It is odd that the
gorillas in POTA should be the ones to hunt anything, as gorillas in
nature add less meat to their diet.
(Understood, Cougar, that they aren't eating the humans that they
hunt. Just odd that they should be the ones to hunt in the first
place.)

Gorillas are bigger and stronger than chimps. In an intelligent ape
society it would make sense that they would make up the work force. Just as a
big guy might be a sensitive soul but he could probably still find work as a
bouncer. Maybe the filmmakers made a mistake in portraying most gorillas as
"brutes" (the common stereotype) but their occupations are valid ones. Chimps
tend to be smarter, they're closer to us than gorillas, so they were stereotyped
as intellectuals. POTA2001 probably portrayed this aspect better. Certainly no
one is arguing with the portrayal of Thade after that recent chimp attack. Attar
is the usual big gorilla but he's a more thoughtful soul than the original POTA
gorillas. Orangs are kinda sullen and shy (and scarce) so they are the leaders,
sorta special. - - - Jeff

till the 19th May for SW, after having had to wait around 3 months
for SW2 (and being quite disappointed!).
And about 2 years for the final of Enterprise
!
I only saw part of season 1 of Enterprise
and it didn’t really do much for me, but I believe that
within 8 or so months the entire series will be out on DVD so I might do a

Yes, Lucas said there's going to be a "Star Wars" TV show, live
-action. There's even been rumors that Mark Hamill is going to play Luke on it
and Kevin Smith is developing it. Nothing official yet but Hamill didn't deny
the rumors. (Hamill and Smith are friends and Hamill is quite the entrepreneur).
I'd watch the first episode of that! Not with Helen, though, because she snores.
Lucas was very into his "Indiana Jones" TV show so it's not unprecedented. Is
Rich Handley in this group? He writes for "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" "Insider"
magazines so he'd probably know more. - - - Jeff

No, I didn't say "Apes" cartoon, I said "ape
cartoon". The "King Kong" cartoon series from 1966 will get a DVD release on
Nov. 15 to tie in with the new movie from Peter Jackson (so says www.tvshowsondvd.com ). No disrespect to
those who worked hard to get the POTA cartoon on DVD for us, but maybe this will
be more ape ammo to give Fox food for thought, at least an official release of
the cartoon.
Some of us know that Arthur Jacobs' favorite
movie was "King Kong" and it was the inspiration for his pursuit of POTA as a
movie. But there was another important "King Kong" fan in the POTA
universe. In the book "Rod Serling" by Joel Engel (pg. 73), it says:
"Throughout his life, whenever a television station played "King Kong",
(Serling) dropped all other plansin order to watch. In California, his constant
viewing companion became writer John Champion. Together, they saw the film at
least 20 times over the years". - - - Jeff

No, I didn't say "Apes" cartoon, I said "ape cartoon". The "King Kong"
cartoon series from 1966 will get a DVD release on Nov. 15 to tie in with the new movie from Peter Jackson (so says www.tvshowsondvd.com ).
I remember that cartoon and its theme song: "King Kong. You know the name of King Kong. You know the name of King Kong... " And I can't remember the rest. In the cartoon Kong was
like a pet dog and was friends with this little boy. It was pretty silly.

.htmlHi all,
If you, like me, hate the new look of the Group and the way it now
works (messages scroll the opposite way, next message is now
previous, etc.) please take a minute to sign this petition set up by
group owners and members to let Yahoo know how we feel:
http://www.PetitionOnline.com/kham2087/
Like the petition says, we Group Owners put a lot of HARD WORK into
the HTML and GRAPHICS of our groups and we were given NO PRIOR
NOTICE or WARNING that the group format was going to be changed.
Also if you have the time why not also send them some negative
feedback about this as well:
http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/groups/cgi_alpha
Thanks,
Neil <.html

Sigh.
AOL does all that stuff for you.
Sure it's lame and expensive,
but on the other hand, it has
stuff no one else has and fixes
itself. What's that worth?
