Political, Michael.  Not Personal.  Not directed at anyone in any of the POTA groups.  Whether the decision to use that delivery for a political satire was a good decision is one thing, but to misjudge the sender and misrepresent his motives is another.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be much of a shield, Michael.  And it wouldn't look to good to be hiding behind ME!!  Besides, I don't remember anyone pelting anything until AFTER I became the supposed shield!  Does that mean someone was pelting things at... well... me?

I can't host them, you'd have to talk to Hunter about that. I can scan them. I actually have issue 2 myself, but I'd need to borrow someone's copy of issue 1.

The larger question is should we give the editors and contributors the courtesy of asking whether or not they want their work made available online.

I have it on 8mm tape. Can anyone tell me how I can put it on a CD?

Get and read the Wizard issue 162. It has an article on how to make your own comic and one of the section is how to get the rights to an existing property. If you promote the story to the Fox consumer product department, maybe Fox would listen. It wouldn't hurt to try.

Besides. They're only two answers. Yes or No.

Alright, if I am stuck with old Uncle Manny's humor, you are all stuck with mine.

A guy is at an airport and is going through customs. He has an elephant behind him. The elephant has a loaf of bread in each ear. The customs agent after searching him says "What about the elephant?!" The man replies "you are not going to make a big deal about a sandwich are you?

Another guy at an airport(I love airports) is waiting in line to get on the plane. He is blind and has a Taco Bell dog on a leash. The flight attendant says "Sir, no dogs allowed on the plane."  The man states "but this is my guide dog". The flight attendant says "A chihuahua is your guide dog?" The man replies "Is that what they gave me?!"

I have a cool T-shirt from the "Ape Has Killed Ape" band. It's got Arthur
Jacobs lighting Zira's cigarette and says, "Ape Has Killed Ape". I'm wearing
it in the book "POTA: The Unofficial Companion". People on the street seem
to like that shirt, not just at conventions.
I haven't been to conventions in a while. When I went obviously the two
Stars (Trek and Wars) ruled the day. In the late '90's there seemed to be
some interest in POTA, but I haven't been to one since Burton's movie. I
think "Behind the POTA" and anticipation for Burton's movie spiked interest
but there's so much constant bombardment with appeals for the entertainment
dollar that POTA is getting lost. There's so many franchises out there and
so many companies putting out collectibles on them all. Burton's movie
really blew it. There's nothing to rally around. The original stuff was a
long time ago. The stuff people are interested in now have had recent
productions that people liked. "Lord of the Rings", Marvel characters,
Matrix, "Star Trek', Star Wars. Every summer brings a new franchise and more
demand from pocket books. It's hard to believe but "Star Wars" was dead from
1985 - 1991. Hasbro terminated their toy license in '85 and had to
renegotiate a decade later. It just built up again slowly, starting with a
    novel in '91.
Maybe POTA is too dark a message to attract a wide interest. I don't know
what the answer is to make it interesting again to a mass audience. The POTA
filmmakers don't know either, and they got paid millions to find out. But
I've never liked POTA because it was popular. Until this internet I've
rarely met people who liked it. I like it because it speaks to me and it
continues to make more and more sense when related to this crazy world.
Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like the interest is growing again (people
coming to these groups, interest from toy companies), maybe because of the
dark turn in world events. We seem on the path to destruction again (if we
ever left it) and the Planet of the Puppies that corporations want to feed
us isn't going to cut it much longer. These things run in cycles. I see
things going back to the introspection of the '60's when POTA was king.
    We'll see. - - - Jeff

    Late night with Taebokitti

I have a cool T-shirt from the "Ape Has Killed Ape" band. It's got Arthur
Jacobs lighting Zira's cigarette and says, "Ape Has Killed Ape". I'm wearing
it in the book "POTA: The Unofficial Companion". People on the street seem
to like that shirt, not just at conventions.

I haven't been to conventions in a while. When I went obviously the two
Stars (Trek and Wars) ruled the day. In the late '90's there seemed to be
some interest in POTA, but I haven't been to one since Burton 's movie. I
think "Behind the POTA" and anticipation for Burton 's movie spiked interest
but there's so much constant bombardment with appeals for the entertainment
dollar that POTA is getting lost. There's so many franchises out there and
so many companies putting out collectibles on them all. Burton 's movie
really blew it.
    We'll see. - - - Jeff

    Sure . . .

Plug your tape out into your video input in your computer.
Then hit record on your DVR program and record it.
Save it as an AVI or MPEG and burn it to CD as a data file.
    Simple as that!

The problem is that there is nothing wrong with the ideas.
It's just that the people that support them are full of it.
And their execution of them it terrible.  It gets to the point
where many people don't want to even be associated
with conservation, just so they won't be associated

The Mel Brooks "Star Wars" satire "Spaceballs" will have a 2-disc special edition DVD arriving on May 3rd. Lots and lots of documentaries, a Brooks audio commentary, a costume gallery, an art direction gallery, blah, blah, blah. Those who've seen the film might remember it includes a homage to POTA (Brooks is a fan, and his "Young Frankenstein" castle set was used in "The Legacy" TV episode). Maybe all this behind-the-scenes stuff will include some tidbits about shooting the POTA segment. Brooks is working on a "Spaceballs" animated cartoon series. His success with "The Producers" musical has made him hot again. - - - Jeff

I don't think Jeff Corey ever had a nose job.  He had a pretty big one -- nose, that is.  He also appears in FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN.  I'm always amused to see him.  Later, he was blacklisted in the 1950s for refusing to name names before the House Committee on Un-American Activities, like many others involved with APES.  When he was summoned to a hearing of the House Un-American Activities Committee, he not only refused to name names but also offered an acting critique of the previous witness.  He was promptly blacklisted and did not work in films or television for 12 years.  Kirk Douglas sought Corey's advice about playing the title role in SPARTACUS (1960) and after that he started appearing in films again. He was a well-respected in Hollywood as an acting coach.  His students included Jack Nicholson, Sally Kellerman, Roger Corman, Leonard Nimoy, Irvin Kirschner, Barbra Streisand, Anthony Perkins, Shirley Knight, Rita Moreno, Richard Chamberlain and Robin Williams.

McDowall and Corey were also in the movie KIDNAPPED in 1948, a movie McDowall was an associate producer on.

I didn't even know who he was until I saw he died a couple years

So... it does seem that Apes related people are a principled lot.
Sounds like he may have given up a lot as a result -- as many do.

Home Theater Forum did a swell interview with Warner Home Video in March and here's a few DVD tidbits:
It's full steam ahead for the special edition of the original "King Kong", and it turns out they did get an interview with the late Fay Wray. There's also plans for "Son of Kong" and the original "Mighty Joe Young" this winter. "Kong" was Arthur Jacobs' favorite movie and inspired the POTA franchise, so show some respect, you saps!
In 2006 comes a special edition of the last movie Arthur Jacobs' watched, "2001: A Space Odyssey". If this is an elaborate edition, I'll wet my pants!
And in 2006 will be a 2-disc edition of "A Streetcar Named Desire" (Kim Hunter). Finally, at the end of the year will be an edition of (ahem) POTA2001 star Kris Kristopherson's "A Star Is Born" (1976).

Special FX are the way to go. Even if people don't like the movie it makes it's money back before people know what hit them. POTA2001 and "Godzilla" made $350 million + worldwide. Though if they were good movies they would've done "Spiderman" or "Lord of the Rings" business. But known franchises + FX = $$$. - - - Jeff

With Jeff it's always "self-abuse at the movies."

Jeff takes his "friend Flicka" to the movies... "alot"!

    They love those gladiator movies.

Fox has greenlighted "Garfield 2". I'd take my friend Flicka to that. Fox always makes the right choice. - - - Jeff

I stumbled onto a message board where you can ask questions to Palisades about their upcoming POTA toys (YOU can ask; I'm too shy). So far here's what they said:
They'll start arriving the first part of 2006; they haven't even started sculpting yet.
They will have "blind" packaging (you won't know what figure you're getting, thus you'll have to spend and spend to get the one you want)
They say they can do anything from the first film with "options on the others"; they have likeness rights
The first batch will be 9 - 12 figures
      The message board is:  http://www.palisadestoys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9300   - - - Jeff

I forgot to mention that Warner Bros. is also planning a new DVD of Heston's classic "Ben Hur", remastered from the original elements. Sounds like a 2-disc set. They are also planning the original "Ben Hur" (1926?). - - - Jeff
