I was just looking
through the latest (excellent) issue of Simian Scrolls (#10) last night and
something struck me as a little odd.
On page 43 there
is a full page advert for a new book- The Art of George Tuska.
Now what puzzles
me is that there is an "exclusive Apes sketch by the man himself" but to me this
sketch just does not look like the work of Tuska, it just doesn't look good
enough to be done by him in my opinion. I'm probably wrong (it happens!) he was
probably in a rush or something but I was wondering if any of the 'Scrolls'
people could let us know the story behind this "exclusive" sketch? It would be
much appreciated.
For those of you
who don't have this issue of scrolls I have uploaded a scan of the page to the
files section:

The blind packaging is a company policy for
now on small figures (I guess they're trying it out to see if they sell more).
They're not just doing it on POTA so they will probably go through with it. - -

With
Taylor there are 2 Taylors - one astro and one
captive.
So a
quick shuffle.......put Astro Taylor in the suspended animation chamber and
wild Taylor in a 2-pack with Nova and they can the cart I
mentioned.
Adjustments to lost

There'd be some of the
"Sideshow syndrome" involved here, because you'd be duplicating some...
With Taylor, you'd almost have to have two versions (bearded and
unbearded) even if they'd go the interchangeable route... While I don't
mind that idea, in his case it would almost be a neccessity...

Fox didn't learn a thing from POTA. If
they did, they wouldn't have given George Lucas the "Star Wars" sequel and
merchandise rights. Fox only gets a "distribution fee" for the new "Star Wars"
movies. That's it. In that new SW doc, Alan Ladd, Jr. (the Fox exec who served
the purpose Dick Zanuck did with POTA) said he didn't believe in "Star Wars", he
believed in George Lucas. They gave Lucas the sequel and toy rights if he cut
his fee to do the original. It's probably the best deal in Hollywood
history.
But Fox must have had some smarts. They did
"Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Fantastic Voyage" before POTA. It's been a go
to studio for sci-fi for a long time.
Is "When Worlds Collide" a good movie? The
"Van Helsing" director is going to remake it. - - - Jeff

Fox did POTA because Jabobs showed them how FANTASTIC
VOYAGE had "legs." They did STAR WARS partly because they'd done APES,
but the Fox of yesteryear isn't the Fox of today. The Fox of today is
the one that sucks, BIG TIME!

Yes T it is the new comic (as opposed to the

The "weekly" strip is WITHIN.
The 22 page comic (part 1 of 3 x 22 page

Then I'll get to see the new "Star Wars". Let's see. POTA has ....apes.
And...apes. And, I think there was something else. Nope, only apes. "Star Wars"
has Yoda. And Darth Vader. And C-3PO. And R2D2. And Chewie. And the Emporer. And
Kenobi. I like when they fight. They have light sabers. Bzzzzt!! - -

I agree that the sketch isn't really on a par with his earlier stuff - I
can't remember what John said about it when he sent it to me for scanning so
I don't know if it was done in a rush or anything else that has been
mentioned. However I would hazard a guess that the main reason for the
difference in styles is most likely because George Tuska is now almost 90
years old.

collection and others that I'm still looking for on the Planet of the Collecting Yahoo
Group. Not sure who started that but there was all this empty space over there so I
thought I'd fill it! Here's the address:
http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/planetoftheapescollecting/?yguid=126620008
You have to join to get in. The pics are all under Photos and some have subalbums
so have fun exploring! Will do more when I get time. Soon I'm going to post a list of
stuff I'm looking for........
And for all my work this morning , I think Michael and Whitty should release the new
Going Home pages....to me anyway!!! HArharhahhhahhrrrrrr...............
Enjoy!

.html I've been busy lately, and haven't had much time to check out my
Yahoo Groups -- and, man, I'm still not too thrilled about
Yahoo's "new way"... it sorta makes me want to tolchock them in their
yarblockos, the way Alex (your humble narrator) did to Dim & Pete
when they tried to set up their "new way"...
Is it just me, or is it retarded to have to scroll UP in order to
read each consecutive post in the 'expanded' form? And, it's
impossible in that mode to click on each individual post (from the 30
or so in each chunk of 'expanded' series posts), in order to reply to
that specific post. I like the old format better. Yahoo is almost as
worthless as Fox is.
Put me down for more of the POTA comix, by the way. And, if I may say
(to Mike, especially, since he's been the most vocal regarding
this)... If I haven't been chiming every so often to make a comment
about the as-yet-unfolding plotline of "WITHIN", it's because I'd
prefer to wait until the entire story is available, and THEN make
comments about it. When I finally got the complete 2-issue "BEWARE
THE BEAST" comic, I posted an effusive entry here lauding it for its
high quality, etc etc etc. Like everybody else, I'm wondering
how "WITHIN" is gonna pan out -- what with all the plot twists &
revelations and all that -- but I'm not *into* coughing up a bit of
discussion about something that is (as yet) still incomplete. It'd be
a bit like watching an episode of the TV show in 5-minute chunks,
without knowing how the story ends, and trying to have a meaningful
conversation about it; I'd rather watch a complete episode and THEN
discuss it in its entirety. Same goes for the comix. Others may dig
the idea of speculating about some quizzical aspect of the comic (is
that Milo? etc), and that's all fine and dandy, but it just isn't my
bag. Well, not unless there's some sort of contest going on, with the
potential to win prizes ;)
I think it's safe to say that most of us POTA fans will -- in time --
express their FULL appreciation for the COMPLETE version of the comic
in question (as I did for "BEWARE THE BEAST"). I can understand the
frustration you (Mike & Neil) must feel regarding the paucity of
comments/input regarding this work-in-progress, but -- and I hope
this doesn't sound mean-spirited, 'cuz it isn't meant to be -- it
kinda sounds like... well... like whining.
On any average month, this DG site has HUNDREDS of posts. Many of
them, sure, are inconsequential ones (by that I mean that they
represent one-sentence quickie responses or ripostes to previous
posts). But in sheer quantity, this site gets plenty of traffic. I'm
not complaining, but my POTA PHENOMENON site ain't gettin' anywhere
NEAR that volume -- not that I'm actively trying to generate it.
One solution? Perhaps, rather than doling out "WITHIN" in strip-by-
strip installments (or even in single page installments), why not
complete the thing and offer it -- SIGHT UNSEEN -- for a price to
those willing to order it, printed all spiffy like "BEWARE THE BEAST"
was...
... and THEN solicit the DG members to offer up some chat about it.
Chances are, enough people here WILL be willing to buy/order it (and
I'm guessing it's predominantly because Neil's artwork is so damn top-
notch), and subsequently WILL ALSO be more-than-willing to post
comments here about it.
At any rate, I'll be more than happy to post an interminably lengthy
message to this board about that COMPLETED version of the comic. But,
not knowing how it's gonna turn out, I don't want to put the cart
before the horse, so to speak.
Keep on crankin' out those pages, in the meantime. But do it because
you dig POTA and would do it even if NOBODY ELSE gave a rat's ass. If
it's worth doing, then it's worth doing it even if you garner neither
praise nor recognition -- nor awareness-of-the-fact.
Ciao for now...

I hope I'm
wrong Jeff but this really looks like a fake.
As I said
about the fake TV Shows issue of Scrolls (#7?), that's fine if you reveal
SOMEWHERE that it is a fake.
However if
you go and mislead people for the hell of it, you run the risk of alienating
them and making people really ponder your intentions.
I consider
myself a huge POTA fan and an ambassador for the current fan-driven community,
but the effect of that fake Scrolls (followed by an issue that had very little
to do with POTA OR the fans - more a general comic book fan issue) has left me
not even bothering to seek another issue of Scrolls. Trust
issues.
Which brings
me to ask - how might I fill that void by puchasing a NEW Ape Chronicles?
Do you have a date guys? Jef, could you put on 100 ponds and float in a
swimming pool holding the issue when it is released?

Just hoping
someone can help me out here, when the Terror on the POTA (Marvel) stories were
re-released by adventure comics (I think) as a mini-series were
they coloured or just reprinted in B&W as in the original

Also how much of
the story did they reprint? Was it all of Terror or just a few chapters, I think
they released 4 or 5 comics?

I have these
at home.
They are not
in colour - and I think there are only 4 issues.
I recall
getting EXTREMELY excited at the prospect that Adventure might have found the
concluding stories (that I am not sure were ever planned, discussed, drawn,
written.....whatever).
I was even
more disappointed to experience a second let
