I'm thinking they'll next make a Cathedral Brent and Nova 2-pack with the pair of them dressed in robes like they were during the mass. That way they get a third use out of the Brent head sculpt, a second
use out of the Nova head sculpt and a third use out of the Mutant robe pattern. No new sculpts or clothes, one more opportunity to squeeze, um I mean please the fans.

Michael, thank you for allowing me to view this next installment. It was well worth the wait. It made me feel like I was back watching the TV show. Neil's renditions of the characters continue to be right on. I
don't want to give away anything, but that first page (pg.4) was chilling since I had been there very recently. Wow. And the following pages continued to chill. I can't wait to see how this continues with a
cliffhanger like that!
I would like to nominate Melinda ( mgkettler@...) to receive it next!
Thanks again, keep up the awesome work!!!

for taking the time to do this Tim. After having a good look at all the pictures
and comparing the (supposed) likenesses, I personally think they all
suck, especially the human faces.
Also I can't
see them going to the bother of changing Brent's face, it would only cut into
their profits and the way they seem to be going about it is to re-use as much
stuff as they can to penny pinch anyway.

OK -
so you are starting with Planet of the Apes (POTA) the movie - the first movie
in the series.
Correct.
The packaging idea is, IMHO, going to hurt
sales.
See my last post on Army of Darkness questions thread where I address this
issue in depth.
I am an active POTA fan and I own the most
popular Yahoo chat group where we hold many and frequent chats on the topic. I
pay thousands for single vintage POTA items and it pains me to see Medicoms of POTA selling for $1.99.
People want to see something new. And a very popular option is a 3-pack with
the 3 orangutans (who do the "see no evil, hear
no evil" pose) and complete with desk, chairs, backdrop etc.
Medicom did Licuis, but
nobody (except one excellent independent artist) ever tried Julius. Or Doctor Galen, another chimp doctor (no, not the Galen from the
TV Show!). Or the other 4 Astronauts. Or an Icarus ship to place them in.
Believe it or not, thew blind packaging ALLOWS more options like Galen or
Landon.
And while Sidesow
sucks us dry with new dollies sporting different accesories
and or clothing - did it ever occur to them to just sell separate outfits? I
realise you probably won't have separate clothing (or will you?!??!), but maybe
interchangable parts would be a fun way to get two
outfits for one character.
Problem is when you do that you basically get one shot a release of one
character. You gotta try to beef up your lines.
I hope you also get to the TV Show and even
the Cartoon (Return to the POTA). Don't bother with the Burton
mistake though - eh?
Can't wait to see what you guys do - please let me know if you want help and or
ideas.
As always I am open to any suggestions, ideas or help from anyone. Appreciate
the offer.

-- Yes the story is good isn't it. A lot of people seem to think
comics are all about the art but they really aren't. The best art in
the world will never save a comic with a badly written story, in some
ways it is easier to carry bad art with an outstanding story.
I am privileged to be working with Michael, when we lost our previous
story writer and he said not to worry he could do it, I must admit I
was sceptical. Well I now know there was nothing to worry about as
this story and Within have shown.
We have a totally different method of working together than the one I
had with Dave Ballard, I suppose that it helps that we can bash ideas
around via a phone call or two and luckily neither of us has an
inflated ego or anything else that gets in the way!
And if I can just say, if you think you have had a few surprises so

Thanks for the kind words about the story.
I just think about what I would have liked
to have seen for the TV Show, then add what I would like to see if it were
current, listen to what the fans here on the group are saying and this
combination creates what I think should “please” the fans and also
leave us with an interesting, marketable commodity…..and something we can
be proud of instead of having that mildly embarrassed feeling when we talk
about the TV Show! J
There is a BIG shock coming in the next
chapter, and there are many to follow.
There is also a “twilight zone”
element where you are REALLY going to wonder what the hell is going on.
Most of the first 22 pages have been
written, and this is the first of a trilogy of stories.
The big question for me is what to do
after these 22 pages – the following 44 pages or another story? That’s what your comments will
determine!
And by the way, Neil also has a great deal
to do with the story writing. He
reminds me when I have left something out, suggests alternatives….Neil is
an incredibly intelligent and thoughtful artist. It is an interesting method we have of
doing this comic and it is a different method to that of Within. I have to try to visualise pages as I
write and Neil surprises me EVERY time by combining my “3 pages” in
a stunning visual manner that totally rocks me.
For example, this last instalment of Going
Home was set out in my mind as an even spread of text throughout the panels. What Neil came up with is far superior
and makes far more sense.
Anyway, I am loving
this experience.
If you guys can help me keep Neil
interested (by simply sharing in this historic event and commenting on it), I
believe we will all continue to FINALLY get the worthy, fan driven comics we
have been robbed of.
Thanks Neil……you keep those
hands wrapped in cotton!

I think a better job could have been done on the Lawgiver. I don't understand why absolute accuracy isn't stressed. My guess is that there isn't a "perfectionist-in-charge" that can
order these things.
Anyway, I'm glad there is this Lawgiver statue to own. It's pretty nice. It's cool to darken the room and light some candles around it. And, it's actually closer to the large prop than the one
seen in Zaius' office in the first film. You can see that "Little Lawgiver" closer up in the first episode of the TV series and it's really primitive. I just wish the Sideshow version, like
everything else they've done, was just a little bit more accurate.

Here's a link to the message on the AOD discussion board that the guy from Palisades references. He gets into a lot more detail about why they are going to the blind packaging on the second series of AOD and why
they are considering it for POTA.
I've been poking around the Palisades message boards and there seemed to be some disgruntlement about the series 1 AOD figures from the 'army builder' collectors who had to accumulate lots of duplicate
main figures at a high cost (since the generic soldier-type figures were sold in two-packs with main figures). The blind packaging helps these collectors because they can get more of the generic soldier figures that
they want at a lesser cost.
I'm still not crazy about the idea, but if the regular retail market support just isn't there for a POTA line and Palisades can get the costs down low enough by using blind packaging to get the toys made and
out to comics shops and on-line retailers, then I'm okay with it. The only thing I'm still concerned about is that there aren't some ultra-rare chase figures that will be next to impossible to get. You
should be able to buy a case of figures (32 in a case for AOD per the post) and get one complete set of all the figures. And the cost for a case should be reasonable. Someone posted about a cost of $200 for a case,
which sounds a little steep, although it works out to $6.25 per figure. I would hope it would be a little less than that actually, but we'll have to wait and see.

Great job as usual, Neil, on your drawing. I like your drawings of the apes and you do a wonderful pic of Galen. What I like about this story is, it presents a question at this point and makes you think about the
direction of the story. I nominate LordZero to receive it next.

I can't see that it matters.
We have the supposed Real McCoy,
and Neil's excellent forgery. What
does it matter? I don't know what the
fuss is about. I have a fake caricature
of Kim that supposedly hung in Sardi's.
I suspected it was a forgery from the

There is one, but it looks nothing like it.
I thought about sicking eBay on the seller.
But how many can say they have a Kim

I am
concerned too that our good friends at Scrolls have been tricked, and I simply
don't believe they would intentionally run a forgery.
But it does
beg the question - if this one got past the scrutineering eyes of many who could
hardly believe its authenticity - is it possible that some of the exclusive
interviews are from tricksters and not "the real deal"?
Maybe that
joker who sent in the fake "missing episodes" article has had a lend of our good
friends on more than one occasion, and their trusting nature has allowed them to
be fooled?
I ask again
that Alan tell us who the sketch was sent to and how he "knows" it is
authentic.
Alan, I would
really like to know.

Well, you
should have mentioned the "post or piss off" policy we are currently discussing
Neil!
Seriously
folks, we would be happy with a group of 5 people who
interact.
And we are
unhappy with a group of 200 or so people, most of whom seem to take, take, take
and contribute nothing.
If you
continue to "lurk", or sit dormant, you will be ejected from the
group.
There was a
time that numbers were important to me. Now all that I want is people who
respond to questions, and people who are polite enough to AT LEAST say "thanks"
when they receive the product of our hard work.
If you just
want to take, take, take - piss off to another group and see what they have to
offer....we don't want you here.
Michael

Thanks for
that.
Kass has left
the DG and she neglected to explain her choice to leave.
Yes I agree
she has a great web site.
However if
she chooses not to be a member of the DG there are consequences. One of
those consequences is that she can wait to pay for the comics when they are
published. For a true TV Show this is quite a sacrifice, seeing as I
currently have permission from Fox to go ahead and publish these, and Fox have
instructed Neil and I to try to leave the TV Show in a place where a brand new
TV Show could be launched.
I had
actually assembled a team of TV Show fans to get their input and most of them
spent more time explining why they have no time to contribute than they spent
contributing.
So the fate
of the TV show is now in my hands......and that pesky Foster person! Oh -
and Cougar gives me a few gentle reminders too!
I
have sent the next chapter to Anthony McElveen.
Who else is
waiting?
Michael

That's actually a good point, but nobody is
"forcing" you to vote.
AND you have expressed what you tink, and
this has been noted.
I am amused by your comment because I am
sensing you are just kidding.
It is hard to tell though sometimes, isn't
it?
I could give you a really extreme example.
Do you like to
A. Get frequent quality
comics;
B. Be placed on
moderation;
or
C. Get booted from a
group;
D. None of the above (now this is a clever
addition!)?

.html Neil, the quality of the artwork, as usual, is excellent. Although
there's nothing in the artwork that's specifically reminiscent of the
illustrations in the Brown/Watson annuals, the subject matter makes me
want to find similarities. I got a nice strong feeling of nostalgia
reading this installment.
It was a bit of a shock opening the first page to see a street that
I've driven on. I'd like to hear how others feel about seeing familiar
landmarks in Planet of the Apes stories. Growing up in the southern
U.S., I never felt any connection with the settings of the Apes movies
when I saw them as a child. Until I moved to California in the early
'90s, New York and the west coast were near-mythical places that, for
me, only really existed in movies.
And now, Michael, the bad news; there are a couple of minor things that
bother me in the story thus far:
First, it always seemed contrived when the fugitives entered a village
and Galen discovered that he knew the local Prefect, or a situation
developed that just happened to be covered in ANSA's standard course in
Astronaut Training. It's central to the story, I know, but I feel that
same way about Virdon's having lived in San Francisco. The point is
made in the story that he only ever previously mentioned growing up on
a farm, so you're obviously trying to give Virdon a history with more
substance, but I think it odd that he wouldn't mention San Francisco
until he was well into the city. I know that I, in that same situation,
would say something as soon as I recognized the city, and then I'd
insist on trying to find my old apartment and anything else that would
provide a tangible connection to my past.
Second, San Francisco's seismic disturbances are well-known, but
they're really not that frequent. It's just another thing that seems
contrived, like the way nearly every movie that's set in New Orleans
has to include a Mardi Gras parade and a jazz band in a funeral
procession.
It has occurred to me that these two flawed plot elements are meant to
evoke the spirit of the television series. If so, you've done a
brilliant job, Michael. Although we're still in the intro and the guest
star hasn't appeared in his ill-fitting makeup yet, this is a good
solid start. I'm excited by the promise of a story that takes us in a
new direction, and I look forward to learning which direction you've
chosen for us.
And now I nominate shadow571957 to receive Part 2 next, because we need
