More to ponder as you watch Ron Harper run
from dinosaurs. Marty Krofft was on the radio anhd reportedly said that
Jack Black and Kirsten Dunst will join Will Ferrell in the "Land of the Lost"
movie. It will use the "lowest of the high tech" to give it more of a feel like
the TV show (this last thing matches what the Kroffts said on their
"Lidsville" commentary about it). They are also plaaning an "H.R. Puffinstuff"
movie (with Jack Black as Witchiepoo!). Somebody check the water in Hollywood. -

Hey all.
I’ve been scanning over the posts from this group and
a few other groups over the past few months.
Rory said, some time ago, that the problem with these groups
is we seem to have said it all, discussed it all etc.
I think he could be right!
That’s why Neil and I try to provide new product to
generate new discussion (and base the product on the previous discussion that
has dictated much of the content).
I would therefore like to assemble a variety of FAQs
– or FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – to summarise
in a particular location and refer people to.
So….what are some frequently
asked questions?

The 3955 thing is something Paul Dehn dreamt up... Stick with 3978... <.html

Jack Black seems to be in everything at the moment, he's in the new
King Kong as well isn't he? Wonder if he's a POTA fan.

I can’t answer the question
definitively. My opinion is it was
overlooked by the makers – ie they simply didn’t
check.
Zira

I think he could be right!
That’s why Neil and I try to

previous discussion that has dictated much of the content).
I would therefore like to assemble a

So….what are some
frequently asked questions?

The 3955 thing is something Paul Dehn dreamt up... Stick with 3978...

Jack Black

Ok
– well, the way I would explain is this:
As with the computers that were affected
by the Millennium Bug, nobody expected there to be a leap of 2000 years. Therefore the equipment was not anticipated to
be needed to be accurate and there is a “give or take” margin of 20 odd years.
Does that work?

Yes, I am glad we have what we have, BUT they certainly could have been better... Of course starting with BENEATH, they ground them out on an assembly line (one per year)
and as such, they just went right into production on each sequel without giving much (real) thought to continuity...

It's true!
When NASA was working with the European Space program
one or the other of them didn't convert to or from metric, so by
the time the parachute deployed the probe had crash into the
planet. Then they lost another one to something else. But
someone, either the Europeans or the Japanese over shot the
planet completely . . . so. As the saying goes, it IS rocket

I have some info regarding Kelley the chimp who we were trying to find. There is a Kelly at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Bastrop, Texas. She is the Kelly that we have been tracking. She was not used in
AIDS research and is part of what they call their clean colony. She is alive and well and is being used as an aunt to help care for chimps born at the facility. Bastrop is one of the few labs in the country that
is allowed by the government to breed chimps for research.
Their history on Kelley is the same as we already have(going back no further than LEMSIP in their records). We would need some "back story" in order to piece together her true story. Even then we
might find that although it is likely they have crossed paths, this is not our Kelley.

That’s great news!
I am a little confused though – you seem to be saying that the Kelley you
are tracking might NOT be the Kelley from the “Escape” film?
Elaine, are you aware that the other group
you posted to has a policy (and group rule) that disallows “cross posting”? ie
you can post information to their group but you can’t copy that
information to other groups. When I
announced the final chapter of “Beware the Beast”, this is the
reason they gave for disallowing that post “The group rules clearly state
that cross posting is not allowed and therefore your announcement was deleted”.
Sounds insane, don’t you
think Elaine? Or am I sounding
insane because I think the rule is only enforced to certain people for certain
reasons? Or am I sounding insane
because it makes me very angry that they only enforce this rule as a gutless
fallback when they are scared the “cross post” might say something
good about another group?
You know I consider you a friend Elaine,
so I can’t wait for your response…..do I sound insane or is there a
problem?

|
.html Hi, Mike (et al.). Sorry I've been away. Super busy. Another death in
the family and other stuff that's been a drag to deal with.
On to NeptuneWanter's query regarding the 3978-vs.-3955 debate...
My take on it goes like this:
Taylor and Virdon both command their own ANSA missions, Taylor's
destination being an unnamed star system 320 lightyears away in
Orion, and Virdon's destination being Alpha Centauri, 4.34 ly away.
We know that Virdon was "approaching" his destination when they ran
into "radioactive turbulence" and subsequently underwent a
mysterious "time warp" that sent them from the EARTH-TIME date 8-19-
1980 to 7-14-3085 (just about a month shy of 1,105 EARTH-TIME years
in mere seconds of SHIP-TIME) -- [opening credits sequence].
We also know that Virdon ordered Jones to activate a gizmo he
calls "the Emergency Homing Device" ["EHD"] -- and Jones must have
activated it since their ship does somehow manage to get back to
Earth.
BUT... the day after they land, after Prefect Veska's gorillas have
trashed the interior of the ship, they see the EARTH-TIME clock
reading 3-21-3085, which is 116 days EARLIER than 7-14-3085. This
date, 3-21-3085, is still on the EARTH-TIME clock more than a week
later, at the end of the episode, which indicates that that date
was "frozen" onto the clock after the ship landed due to the damage
the gorillas inflicted on it that very day.
This all tells me that this ANSA ship, in order to escape the
vicinity of whatever it is that's causing the "radioactive
turbulence" (in my scenario, a Black Hole), can -- upon activation of
the EHD -- escape the inescapable, and travel a distance of 4.34
lightyears in almost a blink of an eye of SHIP-TIME...
... AND the equivalent of 116 EARTH-TIME days... BACKWARDS through
Time.
In other words, somehow Virdon's ship travelled backwards through
Time about 26.728 days per lightyear. Multiplied by the distance from
Alpha Centauri [4.34 ly], and we get 116 days. Backwards, from July
14th 3085 to March 21st 3085.
Coincidentally, Taylor's ship somehow winds up back on Earth. In my
scenario, it's because somebody activated a similar EHD and propelled
his entire command ship a distance of 320 lightyears and an
equivalent duration of Negative Time, at the same rate that Virdon's
ship experienced. Multiply 26.728 days-per-lightyear by 320 and you
get about 8553. Divide 8553 by 365.2422 days-per-year, and you get
the number 23.4 EARTH-TIME years of backwards time travel. Subtract
23.4 years from 11-25-3978 [the date Taylor sees on his DAMAGED
ship's EARTH-TIME clock] and you find yourself smack dab in the
summer of 3955 A.D.!
Taylor's ship -- or, "shuttle" -- didn't register the back-thru-Time
passage of 23.4 years, and so gave the INCORRECT date on its EARTH-
TIME clock [11-25-3978], whereas the other two shuttles that had
accompanied his voyage 320 lightyears out into Orion did NOT suffer
the same damage (by "damage" I'm referring to Stewart's cracked
hibernation chamber, etc), and DID have the correct EARTH-TIME date
on the display -- a date sometime in the summer of 3955.
That's why the ship Brent and his 'Skipper' flew down to the
Forbidden Zone -- while it was still in orbit -- had an EARTH-TIME
reading of "three niner five five" on it, according to Brent.
The THIRD ship -- the one that Milo found on the "seaboard" (i.e. the
coast of the OCEAN, and not the LAKE in which Taylor's ship sank) --
also had an EARTH-TIME clock on it, and it read the same date that
Brent's ship did: 3955. Zira tells this to Hasslein, more or less
(she says "thirty nine... fifty... something"). The President tells
Hasslein that the scientists going over the ship with microscopic
scrutiny discovered that the date was "thirty nine fify FIVE... A.D.
presumably". Given the fact that that same EARTH-TIME clock
ACCURATELY gave the final date -- 1973 -- after going backwards
through Time following the detonation of the Doomsday Bomb (a date
which Zira also mentions to Hasslein), then it's a fair bet that that
clock was in perfect working order, and that its "3955" date also is
accurate.
So, then, the date when PLANET and BENEATH take place is 3955. The
only reason (according to my scenario) that Taylor sees an EARTH-TIME
date of 11-25-3978 instead is because it WAS the year 3978 when his
ship was 320 lightyears away at its destination... but since that
time, somebody pressed the button marked "EMERGENCY HOMING DEVICE"
and sent the whole kit-and-kaboodle back to Earth at the rate of
26.728 EARTH-TIME days per lightyear (just as Virdon's ship
experiences).
The SAME thing happens to both Taylor's (mother)ship and Virdon's
ship, due to the activation of a PRE-PROGRAMMED device in each ANSA
ship. They both go back to Earth and both at the same rate of warped
speed: in their cases, BACKWARDS through Earth-Time. If Virdon's
EARTH-TIME chronometer had been 'damaged' the same way that Taylor's
was, then he and Burke would've seen the date 7-14-3085, instead of 3-
21-3085.
All of this, of course, is due to the fact that Paul Dehn made a
mistake when he wrote his screenplay for "BENEATH" -- had he worked
from a transcript of the verbatim dialogue and details of "PLANET",
he undoubtedly would've had Brent mention "an Earth-Time reading"
of "three niner seven eight" or "nine", placing it immediately after
the events of "PLANET". Dehn must've somehow remembered that "PLANET"
was set in the 3900's but didn't have the 11-25-3978 date at hand,
and so came up with his own date that unfortunately didn't 'jibe'
with it.
Or... perhaps it WAS fortunate, in that by applying the TV show
details to the movie scenario, I was able to conveniently unflub his
notorious flub.
My scenario works for me, though I'll admit that there are POTA fans
here and elsewhere who don't dig it. It has the virtue of making
sense of the 'canon' chronology details as presented on-screen and is
consistent with the TV show, too.
Incidentally (Mike), my scenario does NOT disagree with your
statement below: "one of the clocks" WAS faulty -- it was TAYLOR'S
clock that gave the "faulty" reading of 11-25-3978. Only because his
shuttle's Navigational computer hadn't registered the backwards-
through-time passage of 23.4 years, due to circumstances unseen on-
screen. But Brent's ship AND the "third" ship DID register this jump
back in Time. These ANSA ships are programmed to click backwards when
the circumstances require it, otherwise the Ape-onauts wouldn't have
seen the EARTH-TIME clock do just that after the shockwave hit the
ship. The spacetime warping properties of the ANSA hyperdrive must
allow for the theoretical possibility of NEGATIVE time travel, just
as they also allow for the effects of Time Dilation (as Taylor talks
about in his "final report"). All according to Hasslein's theory of
Time...

Hi Elaine.
I appreciate the information.
I just think it stinks that people are being
singled out and victimised for "cross-posting" (myself and Cougar to say the
LEAST!) and others are permitted to do so without mention. It is
discrimination, if you ask me, for the sake of discriminating - something our
favourite movies seem to be strongly against!
I wonder what is the logic behind a ban on
cross posting? When James tried to do it on he DG he told me that
"cross-posting" makes members aware of other groups and he did not want
that. So I told him straight there was something VERY wrong with his
philosophy. I wonder if it that same flawed philosophy being applied by a
dictator with nobody else "controlling" him?
I know the "group owner" does not
allow James to get away with too much (when he actually pays attention),
but he probably got amnesia again and forgot he ever owned the
group!

production and distribution of their copyrighted material. So, would
Fox really care if POTA fans did the same?

Indeed it was
- all the contents of the museum are fanatically preserved and
kept.
Strangely
enough - the old door didn't hold up too well t aging otherwise the gorillas
might have struggled to open it!

I guess what I don't get is why there'd be ANSA ships from "Taylor's time" being preserved and worked on when there's 500 years of time between "our time" and the 500 years of
technology that will follow us... I don't see why there wouldn't be much more "modern/futuristic" ships down there, ships that would have a better chance of being operational. The old style ICARUS ship
design would probably be obsolete by the future's standards, so why bother with their style of ships?<.html

If you look
closely at Neil's previous page you will see there are older AND newer
versions.
Of course
there has to be one VERY similar to Taylor's as well because that's what ends up
transporting the 3 astro apes (I can't change what is
written!).

Or at LEAST

Hi,I'm here EVERYDAY reading your Posts But
I must admitt I really don't have alot to contribute so Keep quiet and Learn
sumptin is my Motto! lol Anyhoo I have mentioned Before that I do ALOT of
Model Kit Building (Sci-Fi Figures Monsters etc) Well Some of these Pieces can
get a Bit Expensive So ya' wanna be sure you've REALLY researched your
Subject. ALL That being said here's my Delima, The Model I'm Working
on now is Titled "The Mutant Leader" It's a Scene Featuring Leader
"Mendez" the Talented Actor Paul Richards Standing on the Steps Before
the Alter of His "God"(From Beneath My Fave!) lol Well anyhoo, Mendez
himself is a Pretty Straight Forward Build and Paint AH BUT the Base is a
Different Story...This Base Kinda resembles the Old Addar Dr. Zaius Base,It's
a Miniature of the Songbook/Bible and the rest of that little Square Unit that
the Book Rests upon. The Sculptor even included Clear Plastic Rods of Varying
Lengths to Build the Tubes Taylor Presses to End the Planet Of The Apes (And
his Connection to the Franchise LOL) So as I was Sayin; What I'm Tryin' to Get
is a CLEAR Screen-Grab or Publicity Shot of The "Box/Alter" and the Book The
Whole Thing! I've Tried Stilling the VHS Copy I've Got BUT The DVD I Don't
have and The "Behind The Planet..." DVD DOES have some great Reference of the
Mutant Make-Up Tests BUT Next To NUTHIN' for the Bomb/Alter Set. (Lotta
Interesting Tidbits about the Rest of the Ruins of N.Y. though) So These
Images are what I need. Listen I'm dyin' to Post some Digital In Progress
Shots If anybody would be Interested,If You Don't do Models You still might be
interested in seeing what some people are doing with their Fascination with
all things APE! lol Btw I have some Shots of the First Kit I got for
Christmas,This one Is of Taylor being Leashed by Two Gorillas!! The
Sculptor Got Heston's Likeness DEAD-ON!!! Well Worth the Money! So anyway
Lemmie Know If ya' could Post any Pics of these Details I'm Needing THANKS SO
MUCH in advance

Thanks for nominating me Anthony.
I continue to love the artwork on this strip, very high standard
indeed.
The story is great and moves along nicely with each new strip.
Love the idea that the gorrillas have found some ancient human ruins
in this strip, dissapointed not to find out precisely what they have found in
this strip.
Congratulations to Michael and Neil on a truly great strip.
Who to nominate ? dunno really, what about Melinda being as the last message
i read on the list was from her.

Or maybe they hit on the perfect design shape
when they came up with the Icarus style ships and they only improved the
propulsion systems over the years / centuries?
Of course this all depends on how long it
actually is between the design of the 'Icarus ships' and the Apes taking control
of the planet doesn't it.
