Michael & Neil,
OMG!! Awesome! Worth the wait. Great shot of the gorillas approaching the door. And the looks on those gorillas faces! Ominous! This must be leading up to something that will blow our minds (or at least mine!). I
would love to see the next strip.......NOW!!! (Not to be too pushy... :))
Again, thanks for sharing this. I look forward to future strips. Each one always leaves me wanting more!
I nominate LordTZero to receive it next.
Thanks!!
Jim
P.S. Thanks, John, for nominating me! <.html <.html

Garfield did OK, but it was pretty cheap compared to something
like "Apes". Same with "Alien vs. Predator". They were kinda low-budget events.
Fox has one or two expensive "tent poles" every summer; last year it was "Day
After Tomorrow" and "I, Robot". This year it's "Fantastic Four". Fox is
distributing "Star Wars" but they only get a fee. Lucas gets the lion's share.
So POTA2001 was a tent pole and it's harder for them to greenlight it, even
though it would be their baby, they wouldn't have to share the loot with Marvel
like they do on "X-Men" and F4. But Fox is one of the most successful studios so
who are we to judge? - - - Jeff

Didn't Garfield do poorly at the box office? I wanted to see it
when it came around my area, but it didn't stay in the theaters very long.

Yes, Fox rarely has the top movie of the year (because their movies
don't live up to it like "Lord of the Rings" or "Spiderman" or "Shrek" do; You
can get butts in theaters but you have to deliver if you want to be # 1). But
when their results are tallied, Fox is usually # 3 or 4 of studios based on
their slate of films. - - - Jeff

Michael just sent me the strip, and although I can't get the audio, I got
the picture okay. I love the detail of the drawings of the gorillas.

I'm also curious as to whether Neil and Michael have completed the

Hi Dario
Good idea about numbering.
Yes, I have completed the script but it
does have a life if its own. The mutants
thread came after John (I think it was him) wanted action and I thought it
would be a good way to achieve that.
I had the story mapped, but as I get
feedback and ideas I do add bits. Same general story though!
We planned to have 4 strips per page. I think after this one there’s
another two strips to finish this page (which I am now looking at) the another
two – three pages in strip format followed by a page or two (possibly) in
“normal” strip format.
So we are near the end!
Michael

Seriously though another reason it was changed to
this way was that we found we had certain people who had
been, when they were aware another chapter
etc. was available, joining the group and then leaving again after seeing what
they wanted without even the decency of commenting!
We felt this wasn't fair on us or the loyal
members of this group who do bother to take the time to contribute to the
DG.
Maybe it would work better if we got the names of
all the members who want to see a chapter and then sent the comics out to ALL of them at the same
time. That way nobody has to feel that they are being discriminated against and left until last
to receive them?

keeping up with the comic and sent it out to everyone on that list
all at once, nobody gets left behind. We could then discuss the
panels more openly without fear of spoiling it for someone who hasn't
got it yet. Just make it that you have to comment before you recieve
the next installment and to stay on the list to recieve them.

Anyone have any ideas what these are? I figure the "Doomsday book" is the

the "crystal control rod" is.

Seriously though another reason it was changed
to this way was that we found we had certain people who had
been, when they were aware another chapter
etc. was available, joining the group and then leaving again after seeing what
they wanted without even the decency of commenting!
We felt this wasn't fair on us or the loyal

Maybe that's
a good idea - just nuke the DG (if you ask me there's not a whole lot more to be
said!) and focus on one of the few interesting new things going on with
POTA.
Nobody's even
talking about Sideshow or the new Palisades figures.....the well is
dry.
I certainly
don't want to talk about shirtless astronauts or create pretend people to get
the group active again - James has that all wrapped up (AND they are struggling
for posts!).
Yeah, I like
this idea Neil. Do you think a $50 subscription fee per year would be
fair? We could go live with the comics - show panels as they are
pencilled, discuss scripts...etc.
That sounds
worthwhile and we won't have to bug people to post if they pay for their
subscription!

This is what I've been thinking myself the last few years, that Cornelius fibbed a bit on how long it took for apes to overthow their persecutors. Given the things we've seen with former government employees
getting rich in the private sector due to their connections and access, it's not a far stretch to think that maybe one of those interrogators who worked with Hasslein (E1 or E2) went into the business of breeding
ape pets after the plague hit. Knowing that the apes would evolve into servants and then slaves, he might either obtain access to the DNA of the deceased ape-o-nauts or simply use selective breeding so he could be the
first in the marketplace with the better breeds of apes who could perform services instead of tricks. He would think, of course, that his company would have 500 years to earn pofits selling apes and that the eventual
problem of them rebelling against mankind would hardly matter to him as he woudl be long dead by then. Somebody else's problem to solve,
he would tell himself.
Fool.

But they're wrong. They forgot Cornelius' earlier testimony to the Presidential Commission. There are Apes in the late 20th Century, according to Cornelius, who can ALREADY speak English!
He and Zira tried to obfuscate this later on, with their later coerced testimony -- changing "years" to "centuries", in my opinion.

approximation... It'd more likely be roughly 1,500 years if you're
insisiting that the timeclocks are right... (Which I don't think they
are... Their accuracy can be question... Even Burke says "It could be
further, that's when it stopped working...)
================================================================
*** Sorry, Cougar, I can't buy that.
Cornelius wasn't just any ol' ape... he was an ARCHAEOLOGIST. An
historian who had developed a fairly accurate method for dating the
past. Zaius -- when he's trying to blow smoke up everybody's ass in
the Cave scene -- ridicules those methods, but by the end of the film
we KNOW it's on-the-money.
Cornelius dates the artifacts from a certain level as being from
about a century before the Lawgiver wrote his SACRED SCROLLS ("twelve
hundred years ago" -- that is, circa 2755-ish). Subtract a century,
and those artifacts are dated roughly to c. 2650 or so, the 27th
Century.
The artifacts from "the more ancient culture" -- the "more advanced"
one... OUR culture... he dates back another "seven hundred years,
roughly".
Subtract ~700 years from the 27th Century and what do you get???
The TWENTIETH CENTURY.
The movies PLANET & BENEATH take place in the late 40th Century -- as
Taylor says to Landon, "You're loved ones are dead and forgotten for
twenty centuries. TWENTY CENTURIES!"
The 40th Century minus 20 centuries equals the 20th Century.
When our breed made a desert of a paradise, via nuclear war.
Cornelius knows enough about the pre-history of his world to give
ACCURATE estimations of the main archaological levels at his dig-
site.
The Lawgiver wrote the SACRED SCROLLS c. 1200 BP ("Before PLANET")
The artifacts of the higher-level stratum are dated c. 1300 BP.
The level where NO traces of simian fossils are found, and where only
the bones of HUMANS are -- accompanied by artifacts from a more-
advanced culture than the Apes' culture -- is dated c. 2000 BP (i.e.
1300 years + 700 years, roughly).
Cornelius, as a scientist, would've known that there's a MAJOR
difference between a date 1,500 years BP and one 2,000 years BP.
In "PLANET" it's established that he KNOWS the more advanced Human
culture (with Eyeglasses, False Teeth, and Prefabricated Artificial
Heart Valves, etc) dates back to the very time the spaceship's EARTH-
TIME clock clicked back to. Milo reminds them, before he recommends
that they maintain their silence around humans, of the phenomenon of
that backwards-clicking clock. Milo even mentions the "2000 years"
duration. And this is PRIOR to Cornelius telling the Presidential
Commission that his people (Apes) speak/spoke/will-speak a language
they've spoken "for TWO THOUSAND YEARS, roughly".
You can question the accuracy of the clocks... but you cite the clock
from Virdon & Burke's ship, as if its EARTH-TIME reading has any
bearing on the readings seen by the Ape-onauts in the ship they flew
into orbit.
The Ape-onauts saw the year-date "3955" before the Doomsday Bomb's
detonation created a time-warp.
AFTER the time-warp, the clock ACCURATELY read "1973". If THAT clock
was broken, there's no chance in hell it could wondrously manage to
wind up on the CORRECT Earth-Time date. And there is NO indication
given by the President that the clock was faulty in any way, when he
referenced the NASA report in his conversation with Hasslein. And
Hasslein -- Mr. Scientist... the President's SCIENCE ADVISOR -- goes
on to state that they have proof that Apes will not only subjugate
Mankind but will then blow up the Earth in "Thirty-Nine Fifty
Something"...
When Cornelius gives approximation-dates in "PLANET", it's in
the "hundreds" of years -- "thirteen hundred years"... "seven hundred
years, roughly" etc etc. If he truly believed, in his testimony to
the Presidential Commission, that the Apes only started speaking
English 1,500 years prior to his era, he'd have SAID "fifteen hundred
years" and probably added the "roughly" to boot! We have his
precedent for historical chronologizing.
The fact that he later dates "Aldo" (from the SECRET SCROLLS) to a
time c. 500 years after Apes were first taken as pets following a
Plague is rendered MOOT when we got TWO apes named Aldo who SOMEHOW
learn to speak IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY (well, at least the gorilla
Aldo could speak, with Claude Akins' voice).
Hasslein was worried that the Ape-onauts and/or their progeny would
INTERBREED with 'dumb'-nonspeaking apes and thus produce some sort of
hybrid race of EVOLVED apes who CAN speak. Did Hasslein think that
Zira and Cornelius would mate with GORILLAS and ORANGUTANS as well as
with non-evolved chimpanzees? How ELSE could those other two species
of apes become "evolved" like the talking chimpanzee Ape-onauts?
Neither Mandemus nor Virgil nor Lisa nor Aldo nor ANY of the talking
apes -- save young Cornelius -- owes his/her ability to talk to an
infusion of Ape-onaut DNA. How they acquired the power of speech is
NEVER explicitly shown in the POTA saga. But they didn't acquire this
ability 500 years after the Pet Plague, c. 2483-and-following... they
ALREADY COULD SPEAK ENGLISH! Mandemus himself is portrayed as being
OLDER than Caesar -- yet he had the physiological ability to speak
YEARS before the Ape-onauts showed up in 1973. He didn't acquire it
in any fancy "APE MANAGEMENT" Breeding Annex, did he? No "selective
breeding" program supervised by Mankind during the Ape Slavery years
produced him.
So, where'd he come from? How'd he become able to speak?
Well, I have my scenario, which ain't 'canon' except for me.
But the existence of Mandemus alone refutes that INTENTIONALLY false
chronology that Cornelius and Zira feed Hasslein & his goons during
their interrogation.
The earlier testimony's the true one... the EARTH-TIME clocks DO
work... and there is only ONE timeline.
In my opinion... but I'm right!

There's two timelines and the year Taylor landed on the POTA was 3978. They made an error in BENEATH with the earth date of 3955 and there was nothing the filmmakers could do to correct it. The year 3955
survived into the further sequels because they were Dehn's work, but Dehn messed up -- AND THAT'S A FACT, JACK!.
As far as I'm concerned PLANET had one sequel, BENEATH, and BENEATH had three sequels, ESCAPE, CONQUEST and BATTLE, and the entire film series spawned two TV shows, comics, novelizations, and a lousy remake.
I don't try to conceptualize it as one long saga. I'm just not interested in going there, there are too many inconsistencies. I choose to simply ignore them and take each film, show or whatever on its
own terms.
And that's that, Pat!

of Australia being the home of the city of New York seen in the first episode of the TV series... Thankfully you're here to tell everyone that unless it's quoted in your opus, there's no way in hell it could
be... <.html

that. He was just walking down the street and Luiz Adami was in Bill Blake's
Cornelius makeup and he started a conversation. They wanted Bill to do the
makeup but he'd only do it if he played Cornelius and they wanted to use
their actor. - - - Jeff

The pulse-pounding, soul-shattering conclusion to the Apeslayer! saga is now available for download on Hunter's site.
Sadly for article fans there is only a letter column this week.
Next week: Kingdom on an Island of the Apes.
Thanks,

Just as I suspected. I'm only up to #37. See I told you numbering the
chapters when announcing new releases would come in handy. (Thanks
Neil)
Now just one thing....
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE SEND IT TO ME! (That oughta get some attention).
Now, onto other things. I happened to watch the first few minutes of
the old movie "Taxi" (DeNiro, Jody Foster, etc) and noticed that in one
of the first scenes where DeNiro is applying for the Taxi cab driver
job, he's wearing a jacket and it appears to have an ape patch on the
arm. Can anyone confirm that? It's definitely appears to be an ape
head, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a POTA ape. I believe
this would be an uncatalogued POTA reference as I've never heard
someone mention it before.

This is
tragic Neil - well good for you that you are getting paid to do some work but
shitty for the rest of us!
OK - some time back we designed a project to
get some income in for the comics projects.
I bought 6
Argentinian comics that were translated into English - these are the rarely seen
and are original stories based on the TV Show characters.
All 6 are now
available to DG members.
They are $5
each plus postge. This is not much more than they cost to
print.
Same with
Beware the Beast - if you missed that you can get Pt 1 and Pt 2 for $5 each plus
postage.
Neil, do you
have a few of the prints left?
