I've never seen one, but there had to be scripts, at least for the voice
actors to read from.

The cartoon "Madagascar" was # 1 at the U.S.
box office this weekend, taking in around $29 million. That's a lot of people
seeing the POTA parody. "Star Wars" dropped to # 3 but got the record for
quickest $300 million. Wake up, Fox. Don't greenlight "Hello Kitty the Movie",

| Subject: BIG NEWS: Another POTA comic coming? |
.htmlOK, I was at the relatively small Card/Comic show yesterday here in
Ottawa. One of the guests was an artists named Tom Fowler. I was just
browsing around the area while he was talking to this guy telling him
some of his upcoming projects when he uttered the magic words: "Planet
of the Apes".
My jaw dropped and I twitched while politely waiting for him finish
his conversation with the guy he was talking to. Then, the moment he
was free I started asking a lot of questions. Unfortunately he did
not have much info to give, but this is what I learned:
It is largely a Canadian project, most of it being developed in
Toronto. It is not 2001 POTA, but Classic POTA. He mentioned that
there was an initial try to get the rights to 2001, but that when they
could not, the got the rights to Classic POTA. Tom said he is comitted
to doing at least one cover, and probably one story. Artist/writer Ty
Templeton is his contact and (from what I can gather) is the main
person leading the project. The publisher is a new company and doesn't
even have an official name yet. There is no definite schedule yet, but
its "in the works" as they say.
So, unless, this is in someway related to Platinum, we may be getting
yet another POTA comic soon (or at least in a year or so).
I told Tom that this was major news and that there certainly fans out
there for this stuff. He said, "Yeah, my brother is one of them.".
I've got his email and while I do not want to pester him, I plan to
email him in a month or so.
Neil, is there any chance of you hooking up with these guys and doing
work for them? Let me know and I'll send you his email privately.
Michael: I while back I tried to send you a followup email about the
Argentinian comics and more questions about BTB. I then realized that
for some reason the post never made it to the DG. I'll see if I've
got a backup and try resending, but basically, I do want copies of the
comics. If I don't have a copy I'll have to rewrite and it will take
me a few days (very busy here these days, can hardly keep up just
reading the posts.).

I don't think it's been mentioned that today
is Paul Giamatti's birthday, our own Limbo. He's 38. Since POTA2001 he's
probably the biggest breakout star in the cast. Wouldn'cha know he's a movie
star now, earning raves in "American Splendor" and "Sideways" and can currently
be seen in "Cinderella Man". There's even an article about him in "Time"
magazine right now. Next up: starring in M. Night Shalamar or whatever's next
opus. He's also the biggest POTA fan of the cast of the remake and as far as I
know the only one to fess up and say they weren't thrilled with how POTA2001
turned out. Happy Birthday! Go rub some flowers on ya. - - - Jeff

You're thinking of the 1976 Dino DeLorentes Kong.
They've gone back to the original 1933 characters.
So if Kong's hot for anyone she'll be called Ann Darrow.
What's really strange though is that Carl Denham will be

When you say that you do enough grabs that you could easily make the

grab pics could be sent to a POTA DG "File" as complete JPEGs (and
not to the "Photo" section, where they end up getting shrunk down
to "Briefcase" size)...? Just the raw frame-grabs? There ain't enough
decent frame-grabs of BENEATH-through-BATTLE out there, in my
opinion. Kassidy has a great collection of frame-grabs from the 14 TV
episodes on her site, as does the "Goingfaster" site of the ANSA ship
scenes. As of yet, I don't yet have my new DVD burner installed (a
pal of mine is gonna get to it within the month, with any luck), and
I don't yet know how to do frame-grabs on my own, otherwise I'd be
doing them myself!
I'm talking, of course, of the complete WIDESCREEN images, and not
any PAN-&-SCAN truncated pics. As much as I dig seeing the faux TOPPS
sets you dudes have done, with the little captions added on top of
the images, I'd also love to see the complete pics. If you've
got 'em, is there any chance of you posting 'em either here as JPEG
files in the "Files" section? If you'd like, feel free to post 'em in
the "Files" section of my POTA PHENOMENON site, too, or instead, if
there's not as much room left here in DG-land. I'd be happier than an

No, "Roswell aliens" didn't give Taylor his own dog-tags.
No, they didn't drop from his Mothership.
In my scenario, Taylor had 'em either draped around his neck (under

or he had 'em in a pocket of his flight jacket, or maybe in a pocket
of his trousers.
When he found the Waterfall and the swimming hole, he and his fellow
astronauts got BUCK NEKKID and went swimming... and the mute savage
humans got ahold of their clothing and gear and tossed it all willy-
nilly.
Taylor, Dodge, and Landon got SOME of it back -- enough to dress up
in some remnants (including the "water-collector" tarp-like thing
that Dodge wears when he's shot). Zira refers to these as "strange
clothes" when she first sees him, as Dr. Galen does the blood
transfusion.
Taylor LOSES his dog-tags when the humans run off with his stuff.
After the end of "PLANET", Taylor and Nova ride off NORTHWARD along
the coast, finding the Statue of Liberty. They only have enough food
and water to last them (and their horse?) for a single week.
MORE than a week transpires between the last time Cornelius and Zira
saw him and the first time they see Brent. During that interim, Ursus
has seemingly declared Martial Law and taken on Emergency Powers due
to the "incident" regarding the 12 scouts -- the 11 who disappeared
and the 12th who had had his mind "shattered, no doubt, by some
unsimian torture".
During that interim, not only have the charges against Zira and
Cornelius been dropped (in exchange for their silence regarding their
proof from the Cave, etc), but they've also gotten MARRIED.
Taylor and Nova only had so much food and water to last them. What
would they have done when the food and water ran OUT? Zaius
speculated that there MIGHT be another jungle beyond the Forbidden
Zone... but he didn't KNOW such a jungle existed. Taylor indicated
that he would TRY for that, following the shoreline and his nose.
But, at some point, he must have found that the Zone continued on...
and on... an on... TOO FAR for any hope of finding any hypothetical
jungle beyond it. So, rather than die of starvation and thirst, they
make their way back to a place where they KNOW water can be found:
The Waterfall area.
The Waterfall and Swimming Hole area is right on the border of the
Forbidden Zone -- the "scarecrows" are there probably NOT to keep
humans AWAY from the croplands, but to keep APES away from the
Forbidden Zone. They're on the border overlooking the DESERT, after
all. Zaius said before that the humans migrated from "the forest"
where they had eaten up their own food supplies -- they didn't
migrate from the DESERT beyond the cornfields.
The gorillas hunted the humans in the cornfield -- they didn't
(apparently) hunt 'em down in that Waterfall area. Perhaps some of
Nova's tribesmen fled THAT way and escaped the Hunt Club. After all,
before Taylor and his men found the "scarecrows" they were shadowed
by humans scampering along the craggy cliffs above them during the
last leg of their trek across the desert. The gorillas probably
wouldn't have followed any fleeing humans going in that direction,
once they made it past the "scarecrows".
So... Taylor and Nova make their way back to the Waterfall, at some
point BEFORE they find their way to that small oasis where he gives
her his dog-tags. Not only they need water and food -- their HORSE
also needs it. There's some amount of risk, of course, going back to
that general area... but by that point it's either death by gorilla's
gunshot or death by starvation and thirst.
He must have found those dog-tags somewhere strewn along the thickets
of bushes surrounding that swimming hole, where it perhaps fell from
a torn pocket of his ANSA uniform. Maybe it was just pure luck or
chance... but there it was.
Would he have just LEFT it there? It has his NAME on it. He thought
enough of his name to protest when -- during the Hearing -- Zaius
kept referring to him as "Bright Eyes": "My name is Taylor--!" he
says, before the President of the Assembly has the bailiff shut him
up.
The first thing he writes (on paper) to Zira, after he steals her
little notepad, is the same thing: "MY NAME IS TAYLOR".
His name means so much to him, then -- it's his IDENTITY, what Landon
had had removed by Zaius' butchers in the veterinarian lab -- that
he, if he had found those dog-tags again, would KEEP them.
The ONLY reason he lost them in the first place is because he got
totally naked when they found the Waterfall. He wanted to wash off
2,000 years of sweat -- especially the more-than-three-days worth of
grime they got after they beached the Raft on the shore of Dead Lake,
when they started marching across the Wasteland.
He didn't know that there were curious and disruptive humans lurking
around, otherwise he might've kept those dog-tags on when he went
swimming.
He didn't need to keep 'em up his butt!
Patrick
P.S. I don't think it's as likely that he would've left those dog-
tags with the "empty rubber liferaft" at Dead Lake, next to the
little flag that Landon planted. We don't see him remove any dog-tags
in that scene, though he does undo his collar. Perhaps the tags are
around his neck, underneath the tank-top shirt he wears under the
jacket. Or, they're in a pocket, or in his backpack, maybe. But I
don't see him just leaving them in/on/near the Raft. They ain't that
heavy, and if he has room enough in a pocket for his contraband cigar
(and lighter?), then he has room enough for the small tag and its
chain.

Patrick is whacked. He's one of these POTA knuckleheads that thinks everything is right next to everything else, like James and his ideas about Cornelius' map. When did Taylor and Nova have the time
to go back to the waterfall at the rock pool, not taking into account that it's in the opposite direction from where they were heading at the end of PLANET, and hundreds of miles away? It's stupid to think
such a thing. Why can't Patrick just admit the facts? Dehn goofed, and he goofed often.

Sure, I'll make the screen grabs available. There's a bit too many to fit in the group files, but I discussed it with Hunter and he's agreed to host them on his site, although it will probably just be
for a limited amount of time. I'll need a few days to pull them off the discs where I have them archived, and I'll need to convert them from bitmaps to jpegs so the files are more reasonably sized.
I'll make an announcement when they're available to download.

When you say that you do enough grabs that you could easily make the sets twice as big... hmmm... is there any chance that those frame-
grab pics could be sent to a POTA DG "File" as complete JPEGs (and not to the "Photo" section, where they end up getting shrunk down
to "Briefcase" size)...? Just the raw frame-grabs? There ain't enough decent frame-grabs of BENEATH-through-BATTLE out there, in my
opinion. Kassidy has a great collection of frame-grabs from the 14 TV episodes on her site, as does the "Goingfaster" site of the ANSA ship
scenes. As of yet, I don't yet have my new DVD burner installed (a pal of mine is gonna get to it within the month, with any luck), and
I don't yet know how to do frame-grabs on my own, otherwise I'd be doing them myself!
I'm talking, of course, of
the complete WIDESCREEN images, and not any PAN-&-SCAN truncated pics. As much as I dig seeing the faux TOPPS sets you dudes have done, with the little captions added on top of
the images, I'd also love to see the complete pics. If you've got 'em, is there any chance of you posting 'em either here as JPEG
files in the "Files" section? If you'd like, feel free to post 'em in the "Files" section of my POTA PHENOMENON site, too, or instead, if
there's not as much room left here in DG-land. I'd be happier than an uncle's monkey to host 'em at my site.

Maybe one of the humans found the
dogtags before the hunt and swallowed it (you know how humans are when they put
something in their mouth). The human was captured and doo-dooed it and Zira saw
it and gave it back to him later. Maybe she kept it a little while and
brought it with them to the cave and gave it to Taylor before Zauis got there.
Maybe. - - - Jeff

Very cool. The detail Neil puts into these strips is just uncanny. Fantastic likenesses of the mutants, too.
Now where's Marcus during all this? Is he one of the gorillas who broke into the museum? I hope he doesn't fall prey to the mutants and their dastardly ways. That would be tragic.
Save Marcus!
Greg.

I see here that 250 million years ago the state of New York was a chain of

other. Sound familiar?

Nah - that's
them all right!
And
apparently Neil is sick of tracing them off the computer screen.....
;)
Now these mutants with the spaceships that
look just like the ones from Beneath, can we call them the same mutants or
like "Dr. Milo" are we supposed to have questions about them, or does
Neil only have so many different pictures to trace from? :)

Marcus is going to survive and become Chief of Security, but then this might be
a timeline created by Zira and Corn and Milo so he could be murdered by
mutants....hmmmm.......
Very cool. The detail Neil puts into these strips is just uncanny.
Fantastic likenesses of the mutants, too.
Now where's Marcus during all this? Is he one of the gorillas who broke
into the museum? I hope he doesn't fall prey to the mutants and their
dastardly ways. That would be tragic.
Save Marcus!

This is some strange museum the mutants are running. They let people just crawl all over the spaceships. Hey! Those things are 2,000 years old. Watch it with the fingerprints, will ya!
Try going to the Air and Space Museum and see if they let you crawl all over the exhibits there.
The mutant's museum seems like a much more fun place to go on a field trip if they'll let you crawl all over the ships. Do mutant children even go on field trips, I wonder? If your teacher can just project
images from any location anywhere against the wall and create realistic illusions, do you still really need to leave the classroom?

They are very liberal with their public!
Hell, they worship a bomb so it is a given that they crawl all over a

.htmlI wouldn't go so far as to say it was a goof as much as taking a bit
if creative liberty. I wasn't Dehn's fault that there wasn't anything
that allowed Nova to somehow demonstrate to Brent that she knew
taylor. While POTA was being written there was no inclination to set
up a sequel, so Dehn inherited the problem. Sure, he COULD have
written some goofy scene where Chuck perhaps carves his name on a
piece of wood and give it to Nova prior to disappearing or something
like that. But it certainly would have looked and felt like the
contrived scene it would be. No, I prefer he take a relatively small
liberty to move the story forwards.
I do think that overanalizing it (pun intended) and trying to conjure
up some unlikely and improbable logic to it is not worthy of the
slight inconsistency. That's the problem I have with "Mothership"
theories and the like. So much obvious distortion is applied to an
otherwise great basic plot, that if it were to be accepted, the impact
of the original story is lessened.
That's where comics like BTB and Within come in. The CAN lay a new
foundation to an existing storyline, and embelish it all they want and
if they do not break any of the already established premises, that's
just great. It's not really canon, but no less enjoyable when well
done.
My 2 cents.
