If not gay then certainly, like Leo, way too
hyper focused on getting off, the planet anyway.
They both had blinders on as far as that was concerned.

    Hi
I just joined the group so i thought i should introduce myself.
My names Steve and i live on the Soth East coast of England.
I'm 35 yerars old and have liked pota since i was a kid when i first saw them on t.v.

I think the first two films are great and would love to see them on the big screen.the last three films i reckon got progressively worse and cheap looking ,looking like cheaper and cheaper t.v movies (at best) as they went on  and it amazes me that they ever got a cinematic release, they look like they belong on t.v and nowhere else, especially 'Battle',which i think could possibly have been good if the film actually had a budget !!

Anyway nice to be on this list and 'hello' to everyone

    Steve

Just got round to reading the latest installments of the aforementioned
stories. Going Home is looking good, but I enjoyed the concluding parts of
Within more. The scenes with the mutants were especially cool (love the one
with the spaceship) although I have to say that the very last panel is pure
PotA, another cracking illustration by Neil that totally captures the feel
of the original couple of movies.

    >Virdon is in the desert in a dress singing show tunes to himself.
He stumbles upon a recording device in which he sings into it all
the songs from the musical Cats. Urko finds the device after Virdon
wanders off and brings it to Zaius. They listen to> it, and decide
to use it as a torture device.

    >The fugitive trio hear about Urko's new 'torture device'. While
Virdon seems unfazed, Peter and Galen who've had the misfortune to
hear Virdon's singing in the past, are well aware that they could
never endure being subjected to such trauma. As Galen explains, "I
just don't like Cats". They immediately setup a counterplan in which
they memorize the Gilligan's Island" tune, hoping to counter "Cats"
    if they ever get captured.

    >As Burke and Virdon teach Galen the lyrics to the Gilligan's, they
also explain what a theme song is, what a Gilligan is, what a TV is,
what an island is ....then lapse into a nostalgic pause as they
contemplate "a three hour tour".....they realize that, just like the
castaways, they too shall have to live a life waiting and hoping
that a "rescue boat" comes to find them and hope and pray that it is
not piloted by "Wrongway Feldman"......they sit in silence humming
while Galen stares at them with worry......

-- Meanwhile, Zaius is holding an emergency meeting with Urko the
Chief of Security, a burly gorilla committed to the capture of the
fugitives and eager to try the new torture device on them.
"we need to capture these dangerous humans and place them in a
situation where they can easily escape without getting hurt" sighed
the wise old Councillor before continuing in a puzzled voice "And
their clothes, don't forget their clothes! How do we have your
gorillas fight with them in dirt and mud, pursue them through
forests and dusty old ruins but still have them looking so fresh and
clean at the end of the episode?"
Urko let the orangutan's words hang in the air for a moment before
replying "And the backpacks! Don't forget about the backpacks! They
disappear, they re-appear... as if by magic... we can't fight these
two humans, they are much too dangerous..."

    Level of fame: Famous
Executive summary: Heston is the NRA

Military service: U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII (Sgt.)

Charlton Heston's parents were divorced when he was ten, and he lived with his mother and, later, stepfather. The young ham studied drama at Northwestern University, where he first stepped before the camera at age 16 in a student-filmed silent production of the Henrik Ibsen play, Peer Gynt.

As an actor, Heston is most famous for larger-than-life roles in a series of epics, including Orson Welles' Touch of Evil (1958), Ben-Hur (1959), which won him an Oscar, El Cid (1961), and the underrated classic Khartoum (1966). In his schlock era, there's Planet of the Apes (1968), Soylent Green (1973), the disaster flicks Airport (1974) and Earthquake (1975), and TV's The Colbys (1985-87), a lame spin-off of Dynasty.

Off screen, Heston was loudly liberal, active in the civil rights movement, and marched on Washington DC with Martin Luther King in 1963. He was president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1966 to 1971, then evolved into an arch-conservative, and served as president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2002. As NRA chief, Heston once held a 1776-era musket and uttered his most famous line: "I have only five words for you: From my cold, dead hands." He's written three autobiographies, and probably won't write a fourth, as he's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

    That's true, but . . .
You do have to look at both sides.
When Gene Wilder said, ""It's all about money,"
he says. "It's just some people sitting around thinking:
'How can we make some more money?'  Why else
    would you remake Willy Wonka?

Depp's reply was, "''Well, hey, man, where have you been?''
Depp says. ''When didn't they ever do anything for money?
Nobody's ever made a film in the history of cinema where
they weren't expecting some return on their dough.''

Wilder has since retracted is statement, and Depp's
responses have softened as well.  But I think there
has to be a balance between the show and the
business in Showbiz.  Mindless entertain is fine.
Some of my favorite things are just that.  But
some of may faves are also real works of art.
Sometimes you long for something more
than just entertainment -- Something special.
And sometimes you should strive for that.
But the studio needs to be profitable.
If they have to make five sequels to
The Mask to produce another movie
like POTA so be it.  But that wisdom
cuts both ways.  One POTA may
support 5 sequels to The Mask.

Sunday night and they said on it that most of the big studios would
actually make more money if they didn't make any movies at all and
just stuck their money in the bank. If that is the case it is no
wonder that they are so paranoid about profit and we really are lucky
that we get any new movies at all, no matter how bad most of them are!

Subject: Fox News, but still nothing to get excited about.
    .html
.html.html 20th Century Fox today confirmed that it is supporting Blu-ray Disc, rather than HD-DVD, in the upcoming high-definition format war. The move has been expected for almost a year - last October the studio joined the Blu-ray Disc Association as an advisory member, but said they had yet to decide which format they would ultimately support (Fox is, of course, also a member of the DVD Forum ). Now their preference for the format is official. With their decision, Fox joins Sony, MGM and Buena Vista as the major Blu-ray Disc supporting studios. By comparison, the HD-DVD camp includes Warner Bros., Universal and Paramount.

In addition to its greater data storage capacity and features that Fox considers to be a greater technical innovation beyond the existing DVD spec, the main reason Fox ultimately decided to support Blu-ray Disc over HD-DVD is that the Blu-ray Disc spec calls for a particular form of renewable copy protection, which is considered more robust. Fox and other studios had called for the HD-DVD format to include the same renewable copy protection, but forces within the HD-DVD camp apparently believed that it was too expensive and unnecessary. Despite this announcement, there's no specific word yet as to which titles will be among Fox's initial Blu-ray Disc releases when the format officially launches early next year.

So.... eventually you'll all be buying POTA on blu-ray DVD for High Definition, maybe in 2008!

Do you think they will ever go up in value one day? I was wondering
since at one time you had to pay 20-30 dollars a pop for one and now
you can get them for under 5 dollars at times.

I look at it this way.  The ones I took out of the box were $30.
I'd have still bough them if they were $50.  I only collect Zira's
anyway.  The ones still in the box were $5  If they ever get
rare enough to go for $20-30 then my originals will be $5.

I ordered a ("non-bleeding") LAWGIVER statue from Sideshow at
ComicCon, and it'll show up any day now, I hope. They sent an email,
tellin' me they're also sending along a CORNELIUS figure gratis...
which is nice, but I had already bought one at another booth at
          ComicCon! I bought a TAYLOR (astronaut), a ZIRA, a CORNELIUS, a
ZAIUS, and a GORILLA SOLDIER. On average, they each cost me $30 bucks
(one was $25 and another was $35 and the rest were $30 -- cheaper
than if I had bought 'em from Sideshow itself!). The booth I
bought 'em at was a retailer that bought 'em from Sideshow at a
discounted rate, so they were rather inexpensive, compared to
ordering 'em directly from Sideshow. Too bad they didn't have ALL
their POTA dolls, er, "action figures" there. They did have a display
showing all of 'em (I think it was all of 'em), and one a-these days
I'm a-gonna order the rest of 'em.

I like my Sideshow figures, but I think I dig the Medicoms more,
despite the smaller size of the latter. I kinda hope McFarlane Toys
does a POTA line of figures. I'm not a big fan of his "SPAWN" comic
(or the movie based on it), though I do like his art-style. His toy-
          line is well done.

I almost bought some bootleg DVDs of "RETURN TO THE POTA"... but Nah!
I didn't trust that their quality was gonna be any good. I have yet
to buy the DVD set that was cooked up "in-house" here in Yahooland's
POTA group(s). I still have VHS dubs that I bought on Ebay. Somebody
send me a link to wherever I need to go to order the "RETURN" DVDs,
          por favor.

Oh, and send me whatever comix I have yet to get, both "WITHIN"
and "GOING HOME". I need my Neil Foster art "jones", dudes.

Speaking of fantastic comic art, I got to meet my favorite comicbook
artist at ComicCon: Paul Gulacy (who did cover art for a POTA comic,
back in the early 1990s). I wish Mike Ploog could've been there, too,
cuz he's my favorite POTA artist (with Neil a close second...). Maybe
          next year.

It's too bad Triumph (the Insult Comic Dog) didn't show up, like he
did a year or two before. Conan O'Brien had footage of Triumph making
fun of all the geeks there, and he would've had a FIELD day this year.

Triumph, to some guy in a Darth Vader outfit, looking at the square
chest-piece part of the costume: "Which button do you press to call
your Mom to come pick you up?" Triumph has a CD out called "COME POOP
WITH ME" and it's a riot. "Cats Are Cunts" indeed...

The trip was fun, but I did too much damn walkin' during it! ComicCon
alone was HUUUUUUGE! And virtually nowhere to sit down, unless you
were at a panel, or were one of the vendors/artists with a booth.
Neal "Batman" Adams got to sit down the entire time -- I never saw
him get up ONCE, and I filed past his table at least two dozen times.

I got to meet Inari Vachs and Aurora Snow there, at a 'smut'-comics
table. I almost didn't recognize 'em: they had their clothes on, and
there weren't any erections pluggin' em every which way from Sunday.
Nice gals. Playboy Playmate Tiffany Taylor was there, too, in her own
booth. Nice hoo-hahs, cute face. Selling autographs & photos, nothing
          comics-related though. Hmm...

Neil, you should go to ComicCon next year and bring a portfolio to
show to DC or Marvel representatives (or even some other 'lesser'
company) -- they'd hire you on-the-spot, I have no doubt. If you
could do your comic-art for a living, you'd probably be a happier
dude (not that you're miserable right now, but you know what I mean).
A guy on the airplane flight from Minneapolis to San Diego right
across the aisle from me and my brother was being flown out there to
          be wined-&-dined by a movie studio -- he's published 2 (count 'em:
TWO) graphic novels, which have been optioned by the movie studio in
question. Comics-to-Movie properties are HOT, my friend. CGI can
finally do justice to a Stan Lee imagination (Spider-Man, X-Men,
Daredevil, Blade, Fantastic Four, etc). I suggest, Neil, that you do
a portfolio (if you haven't thrown one together yet)... go to next
year's ComicCon... get 'noticed' by comics industry talent-scouts...
get a sweet deal to do a graphic novel or series of comics that can
be collected later on as a single graphic novel... and then wait for
Hollywood to contact you. It can happen. Give it a whirl, Neil. I
          believe in you.

Well this sculpt isn’t very complimentary either…..and when it is not very complimentary to something that was not very complimentary – WELL, there’s a PROBLEM.

            But the accessories are cool!

Do you think they will ever go up in value one day? I was wondering
since at one time you had to pay 20-30 dollars a pop for one and now
you can get them for under 5 dollars at times.

-- Yeah I'm okay, I'm just had enough of the groups stuff at the
moment which is why I haven't been checking in as much as usual. I
find it is getting a bit tedious when the same subjects keep
reappearing and the ones that get any discussion are usually the
ones that have been done to death.
This is not so bad in isolation but when it is happening on other
groups as well and on one of those groups it seems to me that things
that have been discussed here in the past are being regularly
regurgitated it just all gets a bit too much for me I'm afraid.
Anyone with a bit of time to check can see that certain subjects are
guaranteed to elicit a response from the same people every time and
if we wanted to boost our posts it would be so easy to go down this
same track (again and again) but it just bores the pants off me.

Maybe I'll feel more committed and and enthusiastic about it all if

Well, I've been talking POTA with the Yahoos on Yahoo for something like five years now, and believe me, it's de-ja-vu all over again, time and time again.  Let's face it, POTA is hardly an endlessly deep well on subject matter.

              No it isn't.

What keeps it interesting is new people giving a fresh perspective and letting us know we are not (ENTIRELY!) alone.

It seems the only new members we have been allowing are not very talkative.

So until people actually decide to discuss, things won't change.

However if you want us to INVENT new members as they are doing on that poor sad group, then I'm sorry but that's where I draw the line.  Having cleared out 300 or so imaginary members created by James I really don't want to go through that again.

Anyway, if they really are that sad and have that much time to spare then good luck to them.

Well, I can start goofing on Star Trek. That always seems to get
certain members posting. :) Seriously, I can relate. It does get old
reading the same arguments over and over but I do love Planet of the
Apes and there isn't anywhere else to get even this much talk about
it. And if I chime in elsewhere my humor gets lost and people get
offened so, you guys are stuck with me. Oh, and I checked back with
Satan and he says he is sorry for not doing more about the group
feuds but he has been busy getting Star Trek canceled. He'll try to
devote more time to us as soon as he creates another Stargate spinoff.

Well, I've been talking POTA with the Yahoos on Yahoo for something like five years now, and believe me, it's de-ja-vu all over again, time and time again.  Let's face it, POTA is hardly an endlessly deep well on subject matter.

The underdwellers seemed to have lost their human ambition. Instead of using their superior knowledge to wipe out the apes and take back the planet, they hid inside their tunnels and didn't even have a plan to deal with a volcanic eruption that could wipe them all out.

The whole prophesy thing always bothered me, also. They expected Oosa to come along and solve their problems, so they didn't even try to help themselves.

The prophecy of Oosa didnt bother me so much as just the way they handled it... Basically they're holding who they think is their Savior as a prisoner... How would they expect her to be willing to lead them to the green world above when she'd be forced to against her will?

I bought a few Medicoms when they were expensive (about $25), including the "dark Cornelius". I've kept those in the package because they include a Medicom insert at the bottom. That distinguishes them from the cheap ones and shows they are from Japan, not U.S. versions. Don't know if that increases their value, but it might down the road if there's a POTA renaissance and collectors get anal (like the "Star Wars" collectors that follow serial #s and pay $200 for a low number). - - - Jeff

I look at it this way.  The ones I took out of the box were $30.
I'd have still bough them if they were $50.  I only collect Zira's

yeah, i read the novelizations about 15 years before i was able to see the cartoon, and the novels didnt seem terribly juvenile.
in fact, i think i remeber that the human(oids) were naked in the novels.

The underdwellers seemed to have lost their human ambition. Instead of using their superior knowledge to wipe out the apes and take back the planet, they hid inside their tunnels and didn't even have a plan to deal with a volcanic eruption that could wipe them all out.

The prophecy of Oosa didnt bother me so much as just the way they handled it... Basically they're holding who they think is their Savior as a prisoner... How would they expect her to be willing to lead them to the green world above when she'd be forced to against her will?

              .html.html From www.imdb.com:

              Turmoil in the Murdoch Family
Last week's surprising resignation of Lachlan Murdoch as deputy COO of News Corporation has been attributed to a growing rift between him and his father, Rupert Murdoch. Today's (Monday) New York Times reported that the younger Murdoch had complained to several people close to him that his father interfered in his business dealings and undermined him, and that the "Old Man" must have been nuts giving the grrenlight to that awful remake of "Planet of the Apes." The newspaper quoted four personal acquaintances of both men and two high-ranking News Corp execs as saying that the bond between father and son had become frayed, particularly after his father gave him a dressing down in a meeting with other top company executives, then held a series of meetings with Jack Abernathy, president of Fox Stations, a unit that reports to Lachlan, without including Lachlan. The Times and other newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal , suggested that a secondary reason for Lachlan's split was the elder Murdoch's decision to include his two infant children with Wendi Deng in the family trust that will control News Corp after he dies or steps down. Meanwhile, former newspaper editor Andrew Neil, a onetime Murdoch lieutenant, has predicted that News Corp is unlikely to survive intact beyond Murdoch's lifetime. Neil, who edited the London Sunday Times, a Murdoch-owned newspaper, told Britain's Guardian newspaper, "The genius of Rupert Murdoch is his ability to keep [all of the realms of his media empire] together. ... Murdoch's genius dies with him."

              Alrightie...

Here's what I can tell you. It's mostly set post Conquest/pre-
Battle, but it's not about how Caesar went from the middle of the
city to the treehouse village, although our story is about Caesar.
And just to be difficult, Zaius, Cornelius, Zira, Armando, Hasslein,
Kolp, Mendez and even Taylor, all show up at one time or another,
because how much fun would it be to do an Apes comic and not invite
              characters like Zaius and Taylor?

Heck, if they'd let us, we toss in THADE.

Much more is brewing in Apeland than can be learned from that one
image. I hope you enjoy. We should be sending out preview pages of
our first issue in a couple of weeks...

              Hi Ty.

Some friends saw a cover for the new comic at a convention and took a
              photo. Looks very exciting!

All we POTA nerds are now trying to guess what's going on!

You can't judge a book by the cover (and PARTICULARLY a POTA comic!),
but we all seem to agree this is set post-Conquest/pre-Battle and how
Caesar went from the middle of the city to the treehouse village.

Opinions are divided (you know how nerds can be!).

I have bitten my tongue, but I am hoping you could give me SOME
information that I can share with the others....can you? :)

Believe it or not, I'd already seen some of Neil's impressive work on
the Ape fansite, a couple of months ago, when I was first researching
this project and I thought it was terrific stuff. (I even sent the
URL to our writer and lead penciller) .Depending on how we do with
our little Apes experiment, it's possible we might be finding other
Apes material to collect and publish in the future. We're creating an
all new miniseries using artists and writers from Canada for two
              primary reasons.
              1) It saves us a bundle in transport costs. None of our art
packages have to go over a border (in in the case of our lead
penciller, they're delivered by car, rather than by FedEx).
              2) We have such a deep and rich talent pool in Canada, that we've
already got some big Marvel, Dark Horse and DC names lined up to
produce stuff without having to leave the country... including:
Darwyn (DC: New Frontiers) Cooke, Tom (Thunderbolts, Superboy)
Grummett, Leonard (JSA) Kirk, Richard (Pitt, New Warriors) Pace,
Denis (Superman) Rodier, Ty (Batman Adventures, Spider-Man Human
Torch) Templeton, Tom (Green Arrow, Star Wars) Fowler, and Joe
(Robobcop) O'Brien, all of whom will be contributing a cover or a
story for the first six issues (with luck!) and they're already
              booked up.

AN AMUSING SIDE NOTE: Here in Toronto, I live next door to a man
named Gary Challoner (who is no relation) and as a result, have had a
strange awareness of YOUR Gary Challoner's work for a while. (He and
I were once slated for the same issue of the NEW SPIRT ADVENTURES,
for KITCHEN SINK, I believe, but the book never got finished...) I
have Gary's URCHAK'S FOLLY stuff, and it's quite good! I like his
              facial expressions.
I know about the early numbers on Apes books, and how quickly they go
down (the recent DARK HORSE series started at 25,000 and was down at
less than seven thou within a year). We might have the first series
since Marvel not to lose sales, I hope, since we're using fairly well
known talent, and have an exciting and controversial story that's
never been tried in an Apes book before. I wish I could start
sending the full colour painted pages out to reviewers, etc, but it's
still early going yet. (But I've seen em, and they're TERRIFIC!
Richard Pace has "caught" Roddy's ape face perfectly! And wait til
              you see our first cover!)

In the long run, I'm possibly one of the biggest APES fans around.
I'll do good by our hairy friends, I promise.

Ty the Guy Templeton. It's a madhouse! A madhouse!

300 or so imaginary members created by James I really don't want to go

              verify).

              Apes news first!!
