I agree entirely Kasey.

It was good to discuss Monkey Planet with others - it was great to see Neil's drawings too (and I know he does have more too).

I'll talk to Neil about getting that back on the agenda!

And yes it did stop due to l;ack of interest.

T's "comparison" is either an attempt to get a war started, or just a nice illustration of how far off the mark he can be.

Unlike taking a dump, the comics (and the readings and illustration of Monkey Planet) are orchestrated for a community - not for self gratification, hygeiene or out of need.  When that community is not responsive, the idea of writing the comics (or posting and illustrating the chapters) to stimulate that community goes out the window.

We'll continue to do the comics, but if there is no point to sharing them, then we'll just pile them up for the prospective publishers.

I've probably read the novel at least 50 times over since I bought it last September, but now it has fallen apart. Believe me, I know about text books. But I think it is nice to learn what other people think instead of just relying on my own thoughts and ideas because I realize that I don't know everything and that other people have differen perspectives than I do.

Hey that's OK mate - like most things, once you talk it through it's all good.

I think we may even do 2 strips at a time sometimes too!

I think you should put it in for the anime show contest
on Cartoon Network.  That's how South Park got it's start.
After seeing some of the prospects I'd say you have a good
shot at being the new series.  It may not be the Sci-fi Channel
but it's a start.  Now South Park is up a broadcast network.
Sure it's Paramount -- a step down from Fox or Columbia,
But Sony's branching out.  Who knows who might option it?

Just to chip in here I think that Greg's hit the nail on the
head.I 've been quite reluctant, coming in quite late,to give away
plot, hence quite vague comments. Also I've not been able to open up
the pdf files on the other site so have missed most of the early part

Ah, the two storylines start to merge. While I knew the dig site was fairly close to the museum/bunker, I had no idea it was that close. Very cool that the explosion in the last strip affects events elsewhere, disrupting the mutants' signal and giving the gorillas a moment of clarity before the end. Love the expressions on both gorillas in strip 51. As far as strip 52, I'ev said before that Neil does good explosions. I particularly like the pull back in the final panel. I'm guessing here that the gorillas at the site won't really notice the explosion at the museum in the same way the mutants noticed the explosion at the dig site. The gorillas will dismiss the second explosion as aftershocks, so unless there are any survivors (which looks doubtful) no one will ever know about the museum.

Um, except for Milo. He's going to find the museum, right? But it's been sealed. How's he going to get through all that debris (and dead gorillas)? Is Neil going to have to draw another explosion?

Ok, this might be a completely off the wall idea, but you could... make a web page and post the comic there every week and then have a guestbook and have people comment, but given the fact that the comic is mainly for PotADG-ers that is not the best idea.
Right now, as far as I can see, there isn't a whole lot going on in the story that I can comment about and sometimes (being one of the only females on here besides Elaine) I am intimidated by all the comments that the guys write given the fact that I have been "shot down" a few times in the posts that I have posted.
As a writer I know the frustration you are going through trying to get feedback on your comic. In the world of PotA inside and outside of Yahoo Groups reviews are far and few between for artists and writers. I know that I used to scorn comics, but now after reading the strips from Michael and Neil I have come to appreciate them as works of art and not just something that kids read.
So whether you know it or not your work is probably affecting someones life, but they might just be too shy to speak up about it. I'll try to comment more about the comics, but as it was mentioned before it is hard not to give anything away because not everyone sees the comics at the same time. Spoilers tend to ruin the story. I'm also looking forward to seeing more of "Going Home".
The story lines and artwork in these comics is beyond compare. So keep up the good work and try not to get too discouraged due to lack of participation. :)

Kasey/Undomiel

Good post, Kasey. Those of us who do receive the comic enjoy it. Again, my feedback is minimal because I have a tendency to see these comics more as art and the story comes
second. The web page is a good idea but the word would have to be spread around that it existed so people would go to it. It's true what you have stated about writing(fanfic in particular) reviews are rare but we continue to write because we enjoy doing it. And as a female here, I too sometimes do not post due to the male majority. But that maybe the nature of the jungle. Elaine

Hi. I'm writing to see if anyone here may know about a fan produced
comic that I saw on the Planet of the Apes television series website
called Return To Yesterday? I would desperately like to purchase one if
anyone can give me any information about it. I know it was written and
drawn by Mike McColm from Scotland. I appreciate any help you can offer
in helping me to locate a copy of this comic. Thanks fellow Apes fans.

Hi, all. I'm Marc and I'm a POTA addict. Particularly the television series. I have seen the movies, and I like them as well. I did not see the latest movie, with Mark Wahlberg however. I'm also a comic book fanatic, and I just took a look at the Within the Planet of the Apes strip here on the site. It looks great. Have you guys ever put out a comic book?

I used to have many of the action figures of the POTA tv series, but that was long ago and I have no idea what happened to them. I'm interested in starting a new collection of POTA things. Incidentally, there is a new POTA comic book coming out from a company called MR Comics. I don't have any of the previous POTA comics, but I have ordered the first two issues of this one.

Anyway, I have a question, but I'll put it on another post. Thanks for letting me join, and have a good one.

Can I help it if the writer is telegraphing his ending? Of course, it would be ironic if Milo winds up struggling to fix Taylor's ship, compromising left and right on damaged parts while all along there's a store of spare parts nearby that he could have found and accessed, except he betrayed his mentor to Dr. Zaius and Zaius blew up the dig site, consequently sealing off the museum forever.

Why is it that everyone seems to have to make everything so damn close to everything else on the Planet of the Apes?  It makes no sense.  Two thousand years are supposed to pass and none of this stuff gets uncovered or discovered.  I prefer some distance.

Once again I am very jealous about the fact that people can actually
draw characters other than stick figures. This panel certainly makes
me wonder what is going to happen in the up and coming chapters. So,
Zaius blew it up or the Mutants blew it up? I'm not clear on that
just yet.
But it obviously takes quite a bit of time to do this and I
appreciate the fact that Neil and Michael contribute this comic to
the group for our enjoyment. If I were a publisher I would snatch
this (and the other comics) up in a heartbeat. :)

I do think the Novel read and comment thing fell apart because the
novel is so different from the world that was created for the films,
and I for one am a much bigger fan of the film world than that French
monstrosity. I've read it a couple of times and still can't say I
really like it. Okay Rory, let me have it for talking smack about

comics because I truly enjoy them and can get excited about them. I
do think the "tag your it" way of sending them out limits how much we
can openly discuss the story, though.

Yeah but I'd be screwed without the artist dude!  :)

It's funny writing these because I have to keep in mind that they are going to become an essentually visual experience.

But yeah it's good that you all like explosions, eh Neil?  ;)

BADOOM!!! Neil, you are the master. Is that a bloody railroad spike
that gorilla is fighting with? I do believe Greg covered my
speculations on the story beautifuly. See, somebody has been paying
attention to your story Michael. Its not always "wow, look at the
pretty pictures."  hehehe

was fairly close to the museum/bunker, I had no idea it was that
close. Very cool that the explosion in the last strip affects events
elsewhere, disrupting the mutants' signal and giving the gorillas a
moment of clarity before the end. Love the expressions on both
gorillas in strip 51. As far as strip 52, I'ev said before that Neil
does good explosions. I particularly like the pull back in the final
panel. I'm guessing here that the gorillas at the site won't really
notice the explosion at the museum in the same way the mutants
noticed the explosion at the dig site. The gorillas will dismiss the
second explosion as aftershocks, so unless there are any survivors
(which looks doubtful) no one will ever know about the museum.

> Um, except for Milo. He's going to find the museum, right? But it's
been sealed. How's he going to get through all that debris (and dead
gorillas)? Is Neil going to have to draw another explosion?

It makes sense to in a funny kind of way as one of the many reasons
this project was started was because I wanted to practice what it
would be like doing a comic in newspaper strip format. That doesn't
mean you would be getting a double colour strip on Sundays though! ;-)

Why would you want PLANET done as a cartoon? The film's already been made, it can't be made any better, so leave it alone...
Animation has improved over the years so I believe an animated version could be good.
So I am guessing you feel pota should be left alone and no more remakes etc. If I had a choice, I would rather have fan written novels instead. Elaine

Here are 2 new paintings from the one and only Graham Hill! Sensational as usual and I especially enjoyed seeing the 'Freddie Flintoff' one. Though it probably won't mean a lot to our non cricket appreciating members it's still a great little painting.

They can bee viewed in the Members' Art gallery folder in the group's files section. Enjoy.

The gorilla in a very reflecting pose is probably my favorite one to

Neil's day with your little "inside joke" with the cricket crap.

I'm a member over there and this is what James has posted:

Recently about twenty or so members who's email addresses were bouncing
(inbox full, email address no longer exists, etc.) for over 2 months
were deleted from the group. In a group as old and as big as this a
certain percentage of older members will abandon their membership and
start bouncing. These "non-members" are culled from the membership list
on a regular basis. Unfortunately, sometimes someone who does not wish
to leave the group gets caught in the net. That happened this time to
at least one member. If anyone else had their membership mistakingly
deleted, we apologize and please feel free to rejoin. If you have any
problems rejoining, email me privately and I'll send you an invite to
          rejoin.
