I agree with this but without doing a remake I think you need to find a new way to get to the Planet of the apes. I think it gets a little old and my wife always likes to point out that only the monkeys seem able to land a space ship without crashing. So we have already done BEWARE THE BEAST which is set in the PLANET environment, taking place at the conclusion of BENEATH.

 

We have also done WITHIN THE PLANET OF THE APES which is set in the PLANET environment, taking place (about 10 years) prior to PLANET, and also leaping forward to taking place just before Milo, Zira and Cornelius take off and witness the destruction of earth.

 

WITHIN is left open to further explore how Milo (and Robbie the Robot!:) get he ship up and going etc, so there's a place we COULD go.

 

We could do a RETURN story.

 

We could do a TV SHOW environment story.

 

Or something that pairs with the sequels to PLANET.

 

Ideas?

This is a unique opportunity so please chime in ASAP and begin to
discuss what you want from this project.

Yes, I did.  I thought it was OK, but it got a little muddled toward the end.  Better than the Burton movies though, that's for sure.

One of the problems with the DG being so voluminous lately has been the fact that just as I am about to catch up on the many messages, a new batch pours in the next day and by the time I sift through them, I have no time to post anything myself.

So my 2 cents on the latest main threads:

Sorry Rory, but I just think that the whole "POTA's right to exist on it's own argument" is just silly. There were sequels and therefore it is a saga, like it or not. I believe that the original is head over heels superior to anything that came along later and it is and always will be considered a great movie (and not only by science fiction standards). But, any attempts to erase or downplay the fact that there were sequels is just futile. I like to think of the many positive things that those sequels gave us, including new characters and decent stories. Focusing on Dehn as the culprit for all the flaws of the sequels is probably oversimplifying the constraints he had to work in (including a relatively very short period of time to come up with the scripts which in itself may be the reason for many of the blunders). You can scream and shout and shake your fist at the world, but it's a done deal (35 years +), so get over it and move on.

          here's an ideal for the group interactive comic. My ideal is based on the POTA TV show. My storyline is about a spaceship which is launched from Equatorial Africa from the ESA (European Space Agency) with a crew of six which is launched about 10 years after Virdon and Burke was lost and about year before Ceasar's ape revolution but crashed10 years earlier than the three astronauts who came later.
