I love these
full pages that take us outside the strip format.
What do the
rest of you think - did it work to show you that we are now changing the time to
be reflective of the rest of the story?

Another interesting thing he has to say is that he wasn't offered

it, they didn't even originally consider him for the TV show!
He also categorically states that the make up for Caesar was exactly
the same as for Cornelius, same moulds etc. He said the different

that the anger he gave Caesar came through the makeups making the
characters look different. I thought that was very interesting as I
had always believed that the make ups were different myself.

I know I do.
I just wish he'd put it in a book for me not to read,
instead of his unbelievably long post, which I don't read.
It's not that I don't want to read them. I do. But I have
a life. And I know when I get to the end of it, it's going
to say there was a Mothership, or some other absurdity.

Neil
Well, I'm pretty well aquainted with what Roddy McDowall said when he was alive and I don't agree with a lot of it. He liked Galen best! Please.
Dehn was a clever writer in that ESCAPE was a brilliant rescue after the debacle of BENEATH, but I think CONQUEST isn't as clever as it should be, often trite and even vulgar. Dehn basically gave up with
BATTLE, left, then can back and really didn't improve things. So much for Dehn.
I do agree with McDowall on not getting hung up on the inconsistencies between the films and looking at each of them as separate entities. This is how I've always regarded and although I play along in these
groups with these kind of things, I personally couldn't give a rat's ass about them. (I do care about the timeline question because I think PLANET should be free of its sequels.) Nothing is perfect and the
fact is that it's a five film series of movies, not one movie cut into five parts. This is why I really do find Patrick very silly and only give him a hard time for the fun of it. (Hear that,
Disrespector?!!!!)
I also believe, based on what I know of McDowall, that he wanted the role of Galen -- because he liked a regular pay check! He probably figured the show would be a big hit and he could keep riding the APES
bandwagon a few more years. McDowall liked to work.
Also, McDowall is just plain wrong about the makeups. His memory wasn't the best. I can plainly see the sculpts aren't the same, and Jeff Krueger has quoted Bill Blake as saying they weren't the
same. As far as I'm concerned that's case closed.

I too wish you (Patrick) would find a way to
annotate your posts and post them in digestible chunks.
Really, when I DO get through them I want to
discuss many of the points.....but some of the award winning (length) posts just
have to go in the "read when I have a spare hour" basket.........

Please.
Dehn was a clever writer in that ESCAPE was a brilliant rescue
after the debacle of BENEATH, but I think CONQUEST isn't as clever as it
should be, often trite and even vulgar. Dehn basically gave up with
BATTLE, left, then can back and really didn't improve things. So much
for Dehn.
I do agree with McDowall on not getting hung up on the
inconsistencies between the films and looking at each of them as separate
entities. This is how I've always regarded and although I play along in
these groups with these kind of things, I personally couldn't give a rat's ass
about them. (I do care about the timeline question because I think
PLANET should be free of its sequels.) Nothing is perfect and the fact is that
it's a five film series of movies, not one movie cut into five parts.
This is why I really do find Patrick very silly and only give him a hard time
for the fun of it. (Hear that, Disrespector?!!!!)
I also believe,
based on what I know of McDowall, that he wanted the role of Galen -- because
he liked a regular pay check! He probably figured the show would be a
big hit and he could keep riding the APES bandwagon a few more years.
McDowall liked to work.
Also, McDowall is just plain wrong about the
makeups. His memory wasn't the best. I can plainly see the sculpts
aren't the same, and Jeff Krueger has quoted Bill Blake as saying they weren't
the same. As far as I'm concerned that's case closed.

I don't know about his memory but I do know in the interview he is
VERY adamant about it. He relates a tale of a reporter (I think)
telling him that the make up is different and it got to the stage
that Roddy was so annoyed with him for not believing they were the

One thing you have to remember about actors is that for the most part it's "just a job" for them. They're not as into the final product as fans are. I doubt Sean Connery knows much about

Well,
strangely enough, James and I were the original splitters because the POTA group
had turned into a wasteland of negativity and abuse.
SO off we
cane to form the DG and at first EVERYONE was placed on
moderation.
Now the POTA
group is moderated and this one is not.
That happened
because James decided to do a deal with the POTA group owner rather than work
with a team on the DG (which is when HE became a splitter).
I then asked
Neil to help me out with some computer/technical stuff on the DG and this
required me making Neil an owner (owners can do shit that others
can't!).
So Glen and
Menluth had a hissy fit...HOW DARE I ALLOW NEIL TO BE AN OWNER! WHAT MIGHT
HE GET UP TO?!?!?
So.....Helen
and I (as owners) voted to return the group to it's original owner (me) and
ignore the authority of Glen (moderator - appointed by James without conferring
with ME!) and Menluth (owner - appointed by James without conferring with ME!)
and Helen (owner - by mutual agreement with James).
Then Glen and
Menluth had hissy fits and stormed off to their buddy James.
Then Helen
left too because she didn't like me not liking James.
Now it's just
me and that awful Neil! You porr buggers!

Before they do the next "Batman", the same director (Chris Nolan),
star (Christian Bale) and co-star (Michael Caine) are doing a drama together, I
think about a magician.
Overall, I think the top movies of 2005 were a great indication that
the audience could handle darker movies and you don't have to talk down to them.
"Star Wars" and "Harry Potter" each went to a more adult rating, "Batman" and
"War of the Worlds" were dark. The top movies were sci-fi and sequels. And one
of them was about an ape ("King Kong" didn't deliver what they hoped but it's
still one of the top movies of the year). All good signposts for Fox to do a
GOOD POTA. But it's Fox so forget about it. A bad indicator for the year was Fox
did "Fantastic 4". - - - Jeff

Issue 65 is now available on Hunter's site. Letter column fans hit the jackpot this week, with a two-page spread of letters.
Also in this issue is the third part of the Conquest adaptation, which some may view as the prequel to the new Mr. Comics series Revolution on the Planet of the Apes (on sale now at a comic shop near you).

.html I spoke with Neil last night and we have decided the next comic we do
will be interactive, and written by the entire group.
I'm fairly sure this will be in the "comic strip" format that WITHIN
was (well, most of it!) - but you MIGHT be able to convince him
otherwise.
The first question is - WHAT PART OF THE PLANET OF THE APES DO WE WANT
TO DEAL WITH?
Do we want to do something in the PLANET environment (as WITHIN was)?
Or maybe in the TV show or RETURN environment?
We'll discuss this and make a decision by Monday at the latest.
This is a unique opportunity so please chime in ASAP and begin to
discuss what you want from this project.

So we have
already done BEWARE THE BEAST which is set in the PLANET environment, taking
place at the conclusion of BENEATH.
We have also
done WITHIN THE PLANET OF THE APES which is set in the PLANET environment,
taking place (about 10 years) prior to PLANET, and also leaping forward to
taking place just before Milo, Zira and Cornelius take off and witness the
destruction of earth.
WITHIN is
left open to further explore how Milo (and Robbie the Robot!:) get he ship up
and going etc, so there's a place we COULD go.
We could do a
RETURN story.
We could do a
TV SHOW environment story.
Or something
that pairs with the sequels to PLANET.
Ideas?

Well I

I have a
funny feeling most people find it too hard to access the comics so they rarely
see them (unless we send the page to the group as we do with
WITHIN).

I like the page to the group thing, as I rarely have time to spend on the Yahoo sites. Personally, I don't spend a lot of time on my computer at home. I sit at one all day at work. Coming home to do
the same thing all evening is as crazy as one of you-know-who's "scenarios."

I agree with this but without doing a remake I think you need to find a new way to get to the Planet of the apes. I think it gets a little old and my wife always likes to point out that only the monkeys
seem able to land a space ship without crashing. I think doing a remake is stupid (EX) Tim Burtons catastrophe. <.html

waiting to here from him why he felt he needed to.
It is a great pity as I was going to ask him about when we can expect

been out by now?
Maybe they have decided to call it a day, as Dave Ballard did seem to
hint at that a while ago when the last issue came out. I sincerely
hope they haven't given up on it.

I think most
of the unique challenges would be in keeping the majotiry of the group's
interest!
I still say we just stick to a Return colouring book and the
pretend it does not exist! :)
