something much more obvious that I'm missing. Greg

backlighting in any case.
Virdon and Burke always avoided killing gorillas because they didn't
want to give Urko an excuse to wipe out the local humans. It appears
another human, possibly Mustapha, chose to take a chance that the
humans could defend themselves.
The gorillas always seemed overconfident, which was understandable
when the humans didn't offer any resistance. Their losses at the
hands of the human guerillas should have a demoralising effect on
them. I would even expect to see gorilla deserters.

.html Hi.
I am new to the group.
I believe the most critical place to start when you are writing PofTA
stories is the timeline (and whether or not the tv show and the
cartoon fits in with the movies).
I am seeking the opinion of others.
My own timeline begins with the birth of TAYLOR. Would anyone care to
guess the year in which he was born and why?

Welcome to the group.
I agree about the timelines.
I think you have to make a choice about
the specific timeline theory that does it for you, justify that, and take it
from there.
Or you can just dismiss it all and start
again like I just have.

I was disappointed in the second half.
I accept that POTA had a liberal slant

it was more subtle than that. Okay,
Beneath wasn't. But Beneath's

This brings up another good
point.....Serling often had weak, flighty stories but I really love them
all.
Planet of the Apes was certainly flawed in
the story - they were testing the Hasslein Theory and with "3 Adams and 1 Eve"
they were obviously there to re-populate, knowing well that they were likely
many years in the future.....why are they shocked that the theory is
right?

Funny how Landon went along knowing that

And to test the Hasslein Theory.
It's a thin plot device, and I hate
those. But sometimes you just
have to go with that. Ignore it.

BASTARD! :)
OK - I
admit is is hard to draw because a lot of the effects I am trying to achieve
would work on the screen (which is how I see things in my head) but often they

Seriously,
that is half the fun....it's like they seem so very different to what I imagined

I suspected
it might be something like that going on. But - if that IS the case then
it has backfired because they are actually just helping the DG by posting
interesting things to talk about, albeit a bit nasty.
I don't care
if people don't like the story I wrote but I would like to know
why.
Greg P's
comments are always constructive and you can tell he like the TV Show the way it
was and he would approach a finale a different way. I respect that (and
indeed Greg) very much and appreciate his stance.
But it does
look like a couple of "new members" (did I say MEMBERS!?) are just being cruel -
and that's MY job! ;)
I am SO
tempted to just place them on moderation but this is not a moderated group (that
is, however, quickly approaching the point where it will be
reconsidered).

It's a shame
because they also seem to be pretending to be Chris Lawless and Rich Handley and
I think the intention is to cause trouble between myself and Chris/Rich as an
outcome.
It must be
someone we KNOW because when I sent this "Chris" an email asking his name he
replied "Chris Scriptless". So it is someone who knows that Chris was
working on a comic script for some time (still is I think?) that will be
illustrated by Neil. Chris writes for a living and that's why I have been
anxiously awaiting his results (for a couple of years now!).
The
IRONY....it could be HIM getting "messed with" right now had he delivered a
script!

You are
missing the point Rory.
Any bonehead
can know that or find it out in a second in the IMDB so why waste brain cels on
it?
Just for the
hell of it:
Schaffner was
director (noted mostly for THE WAR LORD befor PLANET and not much else, and for
PATTON, PAPPILION and THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL post-planet).
Cinematography was provided by Leon Shamroy, best known for THE
ROBE and THE KING AND I (pre PLANET) and sweet fuck all after Planet (then died
around 74).
I would have
though Rory you, in your penultimate wisdom, might suggest how these two
personalities worked together and which of them might be most likely to deliver
the beauty of the desert trek - or was it just that good shit Neil is breathing
in?
Maybe I
should have asked Jeff but he may not be speaking to me!
;)

You need to get someone else to write the scripts.

I think the mission was primarily one of exploration. Clearly Landon expected he be able to return to Earth not too long after he had left, probably within several years. The Earth clock was on the ship to either
prove or disprove Hasslein's theory. Presumably the clock worked by measuring some external phenomena, such as relative star positions, to determine the correct date on Earth. I figure that if the theory had been
proven true and the crew had no way of returning to Earth within a certain time frame after they had left, then they had the option of colonizing the planet where they landed. Greg
"Whitty, Michael" <Michael.Whitty@...> wrote:
This brings up another good point.....Serling often had weak, flighty

Planet of the Apes was certainly flawed in the story - they were testing the Hasslein Theory and with "3 Adams and 1 Eve" they were obviously there to
re-populate, knowing well that they were likely many years in the future.....why are they shocked that the theory is right?

Yeah, the director and the DP work together on
shot composition. It's funny you should mention
this. Someone asked Shaffner why he was spending
so much time wondering around in the desert. "Because",
ha said, "it sets the tone for the whole film." I have to
agree with him. Though I have skipped it before, it is an
important part of the movie, especially the first viewing.

Some directors just aren't hip to just how to achieve a certain
look. That's why a good DP is the director's best friend.
He'll work with the Lighting Director and choose the
best film stock to achieve the look needed. Just
look at the Godfather movies. They have the
feel of an old faded portrait. Or how in The
Aviator the film stock changes with each
decade to match the films from that

The ones I have are 9-10" tall and they made Thade, Attar and Leo. I
picked most of them up when the stores were reducing costs to move stock for
about $20 or less, just can't see these worth $50 each unless there are others

He was doing a sketch about wacky cable channels and the last one was "Petty Arguments on the Planet of the Apes." He then showed a clip from PLANET (the scene in Cornelius' Office) and had everyone
dubbed. I can't remember what the petty argument was. but it was mildly amusing, and also the dubbing was perfect. When Dr. Zaius came in and looked at Taylor he says to him, "Don't look at
