Here's the cover I said I was working on based on the cover of the original PLANET LP of the Jerry Goldsmith score.  I've scanned elements of it and rearranged them, but I also had to scan two of the ads in the PLANET pressbook to show more of the cage (and fitting them together wasn't easy!).  I also flipped the color photo of Zaius on the LP cover because all these years we've been looking at it backwards!  Finally I added to the top of the cover the Fox Home Video "Studio Classics" banner.  (I wish the studio would release all it films that are pre-1975 as "Studio Classics.")

Anyway, this is basically the same as the PLANET 1-sheet, but I've always liked it.  It's elegant and doesn't sell the movie as anything less than a serious film.  I thought about adding more photo elements, but then it becomes too busy and crowded, but I'll keep thinking about it, so I should have further versions in the future.

Yeah, Fox would have been working on this new transfer for BATTLE months ago if not years.  It is just a coincidence that after the petition was started this statement from Fox comes out, but that's what I think the petition actually did -- get a statement from Fox.

Anyway, who cares?  The extended BATTLE is now going to be out in anamorphic DVD.  Great news for those that love BATTLE.  Now... I wonder if they've cleaned up the bad dialogue recordings?

At least this gives us something to wonder about for a couple months.

    You motivated?

Could we start with some loose thumbnails then discuss the various components as a group?

    Michael

Nothing makes me madder than when images from BENEATH slip into covers for PLANET, but it's been happening for years.  Usually any shot of Taylor and Nova on a horse in a PLANET cover is actually from BENEATH.

The 35th Anniversary covers for PLANET actually featured mostly images from BENEATH!  I don't look at it.  I promptly made up my own cover, put that in a case and just put the two DVDs into that, which is exactly what I'm going to do with the new releases.  Those lousy covers just get put into the closet.

I don't think those that work at Fox know or care about these things.

Me too, actually. And that's a nicely understated reunion between two of the fugitives in the second-last panel.

I'm hoping that's Urko in the last panel, even though it would strain credibility that he could arrive from Central City so quickly.

        Michael

It was soft, off-color (the cornfield was blue-green) and it wasn't the full Panavision.  Also the stereo sounded very fake.

        It sucked, believe me.

If you watched it after looking at the 35th Anniversary DVD transfer, you'd think you were looking at the movie through the bottom of a dirty beer glass!  IT SUCKED!

          No, it ain't Urko.

We thought of having him there (ie "3 Days Later") but this made more sense.

And you say that the TV series was wrong for using the clothing from PLANET/BENEATH as it's wardrobe, well, how do you feel about the CONQUEST one sheet using that image of the apes chasing Taylor on it's poster, and not only one shot of it, they had the whole ape mob is that image repeatd at naseum... It's an image which looks like shit when "altered" to look like it's supposed to be from CONQUEST... That whole poster reeks of cheaply pieced together images..

As we know, the new "Battle" will be the Extended cut. Just thought I'd mention the word is getting around. It got a mention on www.thedigitalbits.com  ; it's amazing the sites that are keeping track of this. Hopefully Fox will note the interest in these titles that have already been on DVD. But I wonder if the original version of "Battle" will also be on this DVD (two versions)? And will they clean up the added footage?
Also to capitalize on "King Kong", Universal is rereleasing the "Congo" DVD, according to digitalbits, but with nothing new. That was ANOTHER recent bad ape movie, but with FX by Stan Winston this time, who was going to do POTA from the Oliver Stone to the Cameron eras.  - - - Jeff

Oh – and sorry if I offended you I was really just kidding.

The story is about a girl and her horse, from what you said, and my four daughters want to read it. NO SHIT.  So it DOES have girl appeal (like you do no doubt!).

What I want is flexible, but I really would like us to work as a team.

I like the idea of your story about Zira so if you could map that for us first that would be best I think.

Should we do this live or privately?  Up to the group – do you guys want to see it all before it happens or do you want it done behind closed doors?

What I would also like is to have 2 other different threads in this story – the Zaius story Rory wants (and hopefully wants to map out too) and the Lazarus story – I have an idea for this one with a nice twist.

I’m going to bed now (it is almost midnight ) so we’ll talk more in about 10 hours when I get to work.

I’d very much like Patrick to get involved too – Patrick has taken a fair bit of abuse but he is passionate and he can tell a story.

Ideally, I think we should all go through Greg P who has proven himself of late to be an ideal editor.

And of course we would need to run a few things by Cougar – as Neil would tell you I say “If Cougar does not absolutely HATE it, it’s good enough for me!”  J

The Battle that's out is 86 min compared to the uncut version the're planning to put out next month is 93 minutes. That's nice and all but the uncut version I have is 123 minutes? What happened to the rest of the footage? The're only adding the Alpha and Omega footage to it is my guess? My version has added dialog as wel as the bomb scenes. (2) Curtis Magazines. I read #1 so many times it started to fall
            appart on me.
            (3) The novelizations of the sequels. I got 'conquest' first. Then
slowly the others and it was only by the mid eighties that I got

Well, for me, I'd like to see another Burke & Virdon story where they
venture through the Forbidden Zone and wind up in an encounter with
Jason and Alexander. Then they all wind up in a major "crossfire"
situation, now being chased on one side by Urko and by Brutus on the
            other.
If we have to go with a Taylor story of himm heading in the other
            direction then how about....
Stewart survives and joins the expedition, they still have a helluva
trek thru the area that they finallly "land" on but, for action and
adventure's sake, encounter an ape society that his even more brutal
than we have seen before. The astronauts have inner turmoil between
Taylor and Landon both wanting to "lay claim" on Stewart and, when they
first enounter the apes, the apes themselves don't know what to make of
Dodge, never having seen a human like him before. On a lesser note,
they are intrigued somewhat by the human female with the golden hair.

I remember my first experience with POTA vividly. I was 6 and wanted to be an astrounaught in the worst way, most kids did at the time. I even had a holloween costume as an astronaught I wore till it was 3 sizes too small. When I saw the movie I remember being so blown away by it. Who knew the right stuff could go so wrong? Not to mention my 2 best friends saw it and we played with the toys for years after that. When the TV series came out I was always Pete and my other 2 friends had to fight over who would be Alan because the one who wasn't didn't want to be Jonsey.

I had all the toys- The  forbidden zone trap was my favorite, wish I still had that.
The comics and books I didn't get till I was an adult.
The strange thing about it is I have all of them on DVD now and my family members still call me to tell me when it's on TV to this day.

Should we do this live or privately?  Up to the group – do you guys want to see it all before it happens or do you want it done behind closed doors?

What I would also like is to have 2 other different threads in this story – the Zaius story Rory wants

Here's my thoughts on that.  I don't think that everyone should know
everything that's going into the new comic.  Even though a rough
treatment of my thread has already been published on the group,
people were still asking, "What's T's Story?"  And I think half
the fun of reading a comic is wondering what's next.  That's
what makes it a page-turner.  So I have no problem with
anyone else contributing to my Zira storyline, as I hope
Rory would have no problem with me doing the same
with Zaius'.  But I don't think either should know
what the other is working on.  It's up to you
and Neil to be the editors and weave the
best of the threads into the final story.
That way the finished product will
still be at least a partial surprise
to almost everyone.  I feel bad
for Neil, being the artist that
he is, he always has to
            know what's in the
            final storyline.

I think a script, or even just a tight outline, would be fine!

Okay here are a couple of roughs I came up with for DVD covers:

Now I wanted to have all the covers related to each other so I went with a face from each of the movies. Of course this has been used a few times before but I have used the faces as just the background and I was thinking each would have it's own colour.
I also decided to have a strong shadow on one side of the face with images / characters from the film on that area.
I was also thinking of having Zaius' glyphs on the spine either side of the name of the movie, again these could be colour matched to the front colours or something.

Remember these are just ideas and a base to start working from, any thoughts, ideas, improvements are welcomed!

                  As usual these are awesome!

Both covers have the main characters/events from the films (except Planet COULD have Nova, but not too important).

I like the idea about the faces and colour scheme too.

Would the colour scheme match the chosen face (eg Zaius/Orange)?
                  Glyphs rule too!

As this group is so active we tend to fill up very quickly and instead of losing old posts forever we like to keep a copy of them all. They can be found in the Files section listed by month and year.

There is also the DG Fan Fiction group where members can place, in th e group's Files section, their Fan Fiction stories, poems etc. to be enjoyed by all:

Then there's the  DG Photos group:
Where photos and files are occasionally moved to save space on the main DG group

And finally, at the DG Photos 2 group you can now find even more of the group's Files:

All the sites can be easily accessed via the links on each one's Homepage.

Don't forget to check out the DG 's vast Photos section and all that great stuff in the Files section!

And w hilst you're here why not participate in a Poll or check out all those

wonderful links and generally have a fun filled family experience!

                  OK I'm confused.

Can anyone look at the LD or at Hunter's BATTLE EXTENDED and tell me the running time?

Surely it is not 123 minutes (that's over 2 hours - no WAY!)

I was reading up on this and the Battle for the Planet of the apes that's coming out and I have a couple questions? The Battle that's out is 86 min compared to the uncut version the're planning to put out next month is 93 minutes. That's nice and all but the uncut version I have is 123 minutes? What happened to the rest of the footage? The're only adding the Alpha and Omega footage to it is my guess? My version has added dialog as wel as the bomb scenes. Leave it to fox to half ass a project.

Neil has posted the final page of Going Home (Pt 1).

When he sent it to me the other day I got the same chill I felt when he sent
me a page of Beware the Beast (where Gideon comes across the ship).

People at my work (who do not like POTA) have commented on it, as they did
                  on that same BTB page.

I would love to see Neil remove the text and the top panel and make a poster
                  of this page.

What do the rest of you think?

Oh - and now might be a good time for a "summary" comment on how you liked
(or didn't lie) the entire first part.........

                  Michael

Good God!  123 minutes of BATTLE!  That would be the kind of torture George Bush could use!

Tom - you need to go check the one you have and make sure it is 123 minutes.

It may contain some "lost episodes" of the TV Show!  :)
