Well this is a team thing so yeah we would all be throwing it around.

Rory - you just said the Doc has to be there.

You we not specific about when, why or how.

I have an idea though - it involves identifying the starting point of his hatred for humans and their technologies..

If you are interested in doing this I'll send you a private email.

How did I like it? How did I like it??
I LOVED it!!!
The art, the story...
I've said it before and feel it bears repeating. It reminded me of the
Ploog/Moench "Terror" as the story gave me the same type of feel. I
loved Ploog's POTA art most of all. Neil really seems reminicent of
that type of artwork [that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned].
Now, not to seem like a totally ungrateful bastard, but.... Bring on
the rest of it!!!!!!!
As for the final page being turned into a "poster" that would be cool
[colorized?]. I'd like to see it done with page 6 too!!
Hell, I'd love to see ANY other work Neil may have done thats POTA
related [or sci-fi in general even]
GREAT job all around. Kudos to both of you!!!

That is a nice last page, much as I don't like ending on a cliffhanger. Does the next part really jump ahead 20 years? So we'll find out how this fight ends in flashback? Does Galen get captured by the gorillas and brought back to Central City? Is he with Pete when the gorillas catch him or do they get separated? Where the heck is Alan? Why didn't we get to meet Mustapha in this part of the story? What happens to Ponytail? Does Pete get a few good shots at him before he gets what's coming to him from the gorillas? Where the heck is Alan?

Neil has posted the final page of Going Home (Pt 1).

When he sent it to me the other day I got the same chill I felt when he sent
me a page of Beware the Beast (where Gideon comes across the ship).

People at my work (who do not like POTA) have commented on it, as they did
on that same BTB page.

I would love to see Neil remove the text and the top panel and make a poster
of this page.

What do the rest of you think?

Oh - and now might be a good time for a "summary" comment on how you liked
(or didn't lie) the entire first part.........

I don't know about Neil but for me comments like this make it all worthwhile.

Things change all the time, but currently I am not sure if the next two parts will ever see the light of day.

I do have them mapped out and what I currently propose is to share the next two parts with the group - written.

IF we get a bunch of people (less than 126 even) expressing that they DO want to see the next two parts then we might change our minds....but we already have the group comic starting and Neil and I are working on a "POTA BEGINS" .

So you better speak up now if you want to sway us!  :)

My vision was to farewell a main character on p 22.

I sorta wrote myself into a hole, though, and it really makes more sense to finish here.

Because it is a comic, we felt that the action provided from the battle was overdue too.

The plan is to have a twist (would you have guessed?!?! :).

To the reader, there is a battle going on and the first assumption is that it's the same one.

A few pages in we see it is indeed another battle....

Urko has been replaced.  I have not decided if he has died, is killed or just older and has faded away.  I really do think it is necessary to kill him - but I would have to answer to ELAINE!

For pure shock value and to bring the reader into the incredible changes that have taken place....would anyone like to guess who has replaced Urko?

Galen does return to Central City....that's critical to the plot and the future of the stories.

I'm sorry about Pete, but his number is up.

Somehow I need now for Pete to discover that Galen has been planning to return to CC.

I think Pete's character deserves for me to allow him to be pissed at Galen's actions, but to forgive and understand his friend.

After his lenghty torture Galen is not too fond of these humans.  To achieve what I want from Galen, I require him to:

(1) believe the humans killed Pete (whether or not this IS the case);

(2) continue to believe it was Alan who was killed earlier.

Just ran out of space.

There is no question that this story has a lot of compromise in it.

What happens to Ponytail? Does Pete get a few good shots at him before he gets what's coming to him from the gorillas?

Seriously, though, that's a nice page. Looks like Alan's dreaming of home and what became of his family. Doesn't really tell us where he is, though, unless Sally's grave is supposed to be some sort of clue. The beard would seem to indicate some time has passed since the earthquake.

The big mystery here is the 17 at the bottom. Is this page 17 of part 2 of this story? If so, how many pages of part 2 are already done?

Quite simply; the Orangs have always known, going back to Virgil. They used it to keep the other apes in the dark after the death of Caesar, to control their military (by forming an alliance with the Gorillas to stifle the Chimps, who are the most curious) and making Humans boogeymen. Zaius was likely brought into the fold by older Orangs at an early age once he proved he was a 'true believer' or as Taylor calls him "Chief Defender of the Faith." It wasn't some epiphany that he developed, it was simply part of his growing up as an Orang who others felt could be trusted.

I don't have the URLs handy anymore, but this game was discused here
on the DG a long time ago (about a year and a half ago). At the time,
I had an URL from which you could download the game binary and there
was also an Atari emulator that allowed you to play the game on a PC.
I got it working but only played with the 'stick figure' game for a
few minutes and then gave up. If anyone is still interested I could
check around to see if I still have the game and the emulator. I
should warn ahead of time that I recall it took some tweeking to
finally get it to work so I can't guarantee it'll work for everyone.
Just not worth it in my opinion.

      Steve,

I think you will find that nearly all fan-written POTA TV Show finales involve the death of one of the fugitives.

I don’t think I’ll be changing my mind about this one but as it goes with death, there is also new life.

      Nobody – YET!

The new life comes in the form of a new character.

The new character has an association with Alan.  Actually, he spent much of his life trying to find Alan, and dedicated his entire life to the quest.  That’s the other reason poor Pete is doomed…….if one of the astros has to go, it’s gonna be Pete.

            Thing is Steve, it’s time.

            Everyone dies, some time.

This is going to show how Pete dies, and it is obviously going to be standing up for his friend.  Pete’s not the kinda guy who would let someone indoctrinate him against a friend.  He’s like most Aussies.  You might hate us Neil J, but seriously we DO stick by our mates, don’t we?  Like a loyal dog! J

That’s the one redeeming thing about the TV Show.  As predictable as these guys are, they are consistent.  And they are genuinely nice guys.  The problem is, the TV Show does not demonstrate how nice guys can do nasty things.  That’s why I think the characters are one-dimensional.  They are the “white hat cowboys”.  I like my cowboys with black hats.  Or pink ones like in Brokeback Mountain!  J

Pete will discover that Galen has been planning to return to Central City.  It will be presented to Pete by Mustapha and Pete will believe it.  He will, of course, get angry.  Mustapha will continue to attempt to brainwash Pete against his friend.  But Pete will just play Mustapha, of course.  And it will cost Pete his life.  ie by staying true he will pay the ultimate price.  It will be touching – it SHOULD be touching.

Further tragedy will unfold when Galen, still thinking Alan is gone, discovers the humans have murdered Pete.

This will be the straw that breaks Galen and sends him down a path of vengeance.  Very much in the tradition of Josey Wales, Galen will seek revenge on all humans.

To make this more believable, I am thinking that Galen’s dad will be murdered by Urko (who will blame it on humans) and he will return to Central City only in time to make his mother’s wake (or funeral – a la the funeral in PLANET).  Galen will be abandoned – his two friends gone and his parents gone.  All he will live for is revenge.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Alan and Chris will set about training an army.  The first pages of issue #2 “RUNNING UP THAT HILL”, starts with the battle 20 years later between Galen’s army and Alan’s/Chris’s army.  Of course, each of them believes the other to be dead.

By the end of “RUNNING UP THAT HILL” it will be a story about apes vs humans and Chris, his female companion and their Gorilla pacifist friend (who was outcast from gorilla society).  And that’s where the new adventures begin……

            Michael

I have been trying to decide between Virgil or Aldo for Battle. I am leaning towards using Aldo as that way the sequel covers will all have darker background colours than the one for Planet, making Planet part of the over all design/look and at the same a stand alone.

Caesar at least didn’t wipe out humans.

Galen goes almost Hitler – he exposes Urko’s weakness in that Urko did not catch them in 10 years (well, not for keeps).  He takes Urko’s position and wipes out villages and wants all humans dead.  Sorta Galen = Hitler/Humans = Jews.

Of course the humans flee to where Alan is and he and Chris organise an army.

I can't find anything definitive about the running time on the new DVD. The story on Digital Bits mentions a 92 minute running time, but doesn't say if that's a spec from Fox. Amazon doesn't have the individual disc release listed yet, and the Fox home entertainment site doesn't have it listed yet, either.
