I've waited a couple of hours to respond to this, so I can get some kind of angle on it ...but no I'm still flaming mad.
particularly as Neil was in a discussion about one of my painting when he posted his message.
This is utter bull shit, some dick, shit stirring, to cause trouble, possibly doing real damage to apes fandom...
The back wash from this doesn't just involve Neil but all the rest of us.
The DG had been really cool for the last week and a bit ... sigh
Below I've copied a message I posted to another group, not Jame's,
I really hope that people just grow up.
Hi every one, hope you are all well,
Thought it was time too put my "pen " to paper on this Neil Scrolls thing as I think it's doing / going to do real harm to fandom, it's not just Neil or Dave who's in the shit storm the back
wash gets others as well. As most of you now I'm active over at the DG, at times, as I've said, it can be quite choppy waters.
Only last week Neil was saying that he'd had enough with apes, after a few of us posted messages with offers of things we'd do just to try and make it fun again, he became more engaged and the tone of the
group lightened considerably there...
One of the things that annoys me about the e-mail Dave got from "mr Angry" telling tales, was that Neil's post was in response to a discussion we were having about my Scolls cover in which I was saying
having seen it printed I'd paint it differently, you know one of those arty type talks about colour which I can drone on about for ages...
his comments need to be seen in context, He's certainly mentioned his action figure cover before and understood why it hadn't been used.
I regard Neil and many people here as friends, I lurked for a long time on the groups because of childish adolescent crap like this,we all should be too old for this...
It seems to me, the DG has a "spy" intent on trolling and shit stirring, how long before I or anyone else over there has to "watch" what they say. It really should n't be about this ... really.
This is what I mean by the back wash on other people, if some one got a beef with Neil or any one then it's between them, but no they have to drag in Dave and the whole of fandom.
I've just spent the last hour e-mailing people, I could have been painting... Crap like this is just going to drive people away, doesn't matter who was right to begin with and all because some dick wants to
play games.
Lots of people do great work keeping apes going, Kass, Hunter with their sites,Greg P with everything, John, Dave, and Alan with Scrolls, James and yes even Neil, I'm proud to have a small association with all of
them I'd like to think in years to come I recall the fun and creativity involved and not crap like this ... but it's getting harder. As always best wishes Graham.
As always best wishes Graham.

This a re-coloured version of one off the trading cards I did for Hunter's site with the help of Greg P who put up with "arty" type things like not being able to measure and understand
file sizes.
Here's the card.. thanks again Greg...

there is any chance you could tell me which group it is Graham?
Because I do not feel at all comfortable with people apparently talking about me
behind my back without having the chance to reply and give my side and from
the wording of your copied post that is exactly what sounds like
is going on.
Obviously I don't
want you to compromise yourself or cause any trouble so feel free to tell me to
feck off and mind my own business if you have to.

Haiwii is doing such reserch; somewhere near Kona (Not sure of the spelling) There are many possibilities out there. We just have to learn how to tap into them and use them wisely. Nuclear power is
one. Fusion is the probable of all energy alternatives as it doesn't produce waste as does bio fuels or fission. There is a fusion car. However, it cost over a million dollars to
build. But that shouldn't stop us. One day that car will be affortable. Remember, over thirty years ago, a home computer was just science fiction.
For now we need to conserve. We need to take steps to reduce carbon emissions, not so much for ourselves but for our children. We have saved the planet before. Remember the hole in the ozone? Well, we
stopped it from growing. We can stop this. Maybe our Government won't do anything but we as people can. See not what the planet can do for you but what you can do for the planet!

You know what I've been wondering lately is why we can't tap the energy that must be in the planet's ocean currents?

It's the same style as the guy who sent emails to the group claiming
to be from Rory, but he was actually forging the "sent by" field to
seem that way. A little investigation revealed that to be James (we
dubbed him as the POTA Terrorist if you recall!).
As I say to Neil every time this idiot appears:
IGNORE HIM! He thrives on causing harm and pain and damage. If we
annoy the git, he WILL go away.
I really have no idea what harm he has done by representing himself to
other as me, so I will say to everyone - if I have supposedly sent an
email abusing you, respond to me and check if indeed it WAS me.
If it WAS me (yes, Chris, that WAS me you wanker! - and if you all
want to know who I think is ding this....), I'll tell you. One thing
about me is that if you piss me off:
(1) I'll tell you;
(2) I'll try to sort it out.

Hmmm... Family Guy can be gross/stupid I suppose, but it really is clever ("intelligent") at times... Same with American Dad, which never really gets into the "gross" type of things you don't

Hmmm... Family Guy can be gross/stupid I suppose,
but it really is clever ("intelligent" ) at times... Same with American
Dad, which never really gets into the "gross" type of things you don't care
for... I'm not saying you should like these shows, just that they are not from
the same mold as Beavis and Butthead or South Park...

The vast majority of apes hate humans, so I'm with you on this one... I mean there may have been a few more apes that would have sympathised with Taylor's cause had they known about him... (I'm pretty sure
that the whole thing was covered up and the few that seen him when he spoke probably thinking they were hearing things or it was all a hoax... Either way, remember when Lucius comes to get Taylor out of the cage, he was
like "So you can talk" which says to me that he didn't entirely believe Zira until he heard it himself...)
Anyway, to be fair though, a few of the protesting chimps DO have things like "Free The Humans" on their placards, so if nothing else, they are against damning an entire species because the warhawks in
charge say they are the cause of all the ape's problems... (In other words, they are "animal rights" activists in addition to war protestors...)
Getting back to my original question.. How would knowing that humans were once the dominant species on the planet have
helped the apes in the long term?
It wouldn't!
Those in charge fear the knowledge getting out because they believe it could mean the end of their civilization... Be it Man reconquering the planet and showing his dominance, or the knowledge getting out and
corrupting the apes (leading them to eventually destroy themselves as Man did),they will do all they can to prevent that from happening... If they did find out Man once ruled, it could easily cause anarchy, not because
the humans once ruled, but because the apes would find out they were lied to... This anarchy could easily set off a chain of events which would lead to the downfall of the apes society...

Well, it could have convinced the apes that humans were not just
stupid animals.
Human attitudes toards the more intelligent animals have
(theoretically) changed.
However this has not converted has it? Apes are almost extinct
regardless of their intelligence.
So you do have a point, but maybe the apes could have altered
attitude in time to save humanity from extinction (well, if Heston
had not appeared in Beneath and got his way....).

Not long ago in
response to a post saying there was nothing new to discuss about a 40 year old
film I mentioned that I did have some new stuff that I was going to share with
the group. Okay, it's not really 'new' but it may be something quite a
few of you have never seen.
In 1978 Charlton
Heston released a book that contained the writings from his daily diary - The
Actor's Life: Journals 1956-1976. (1978 - ISBN: 0-525-05030-2) which of
course covered the time that he was filming Planet and Beneath. It contains some
very interesting notes about the build up to and filming of both movies so I
decided to spend a good few hours of my time 'extracting' all the passages that
mention anything to do with Apes.
So if anyone would
like to see it let us know and if there is enough interest I'll start posting
it. As the whole thing is pretty long It will be
best to post it to the group in separate 'digestible
chunks'.

I've seen the book once or twice but never bought it, so reading all of that will be interesting... (And don't think I'm not appreciative of it if I don't say "thanks" after every posting on
it!)
I do recall reading in it when I glanced at it that he certainly wasn't too fond of Linda Harrison... Not saying that he didn't like her, but he certainly wasn't very impressed with her "acting"
ability, despite what she may have said about his being supportive and all... He doesn't even refer to her by name most of the time, and in his writings, he simply refers to her as "the girl"...

That's always kinda funny to me, how Linda will set there and say how Heston really supported her etc. and yet right there in his diaries he pretty much says that she was useless...

Even on Broadway Julie Harris was seldom in the
same plays as Kim Hunter. But they needed a
blacklisted Julie Harris to hit up for parts that Harris
wouldn't or couldn't take. Kim filled that role nicely.
Harris was kind of like that for Kim Stanely as well.
Or this may be half remembered crap I read, somewhere...

Hi Michael, I haven't ... and at the moment I'm playing with photo shop so some of the actual paintings look quite a bit different than the "Finished" version so I'd feel
a bit awkward..
The book mark chimp never got beyond the tonal underpainting all the colour was added later on the PC, if I've still got the file on the computer I'll show you what I mean.
Some times after I've finished I go back at a later date and paint a bit more.
The Virdon portrait in the trading card set was like this so once again the "real" thing now looks quite different than the card.
Best, Graham.

Not long ago in response to a post
saying there was nothing new to discuss about a 40 year old film I mentioned
that I did have some new stuff that I was going to share with the group. Okay,
it's not really 'new' but it may be something quite a few of you have
never seen.
In 1978 Charlton Heston released a
book that contained the writings from his daily diary - The Actor's Life:
Journals 1956-1976. (1978 - ISBN: 0-525-05030- 2) which of course
covered the time that he was filming Planet and Beneath. It contains some very
interesting notes about the build up to and filming of both movies so I decided
to spend a good few hours of my time 'extracting' all the passages that mention
anything to do with Apes.
So if anyone would like to see it
let us know and if there is enough interest I'll start posting it. As the whole
thing is pretty long It will be best to post it to the group in
separate 'digestible chunks'.

T'was i who said there wasn't really anything new to discuss
but my nmain point was that this is a very active group for a film thats very
nearly forty years old and that i belong to groups about more recent things and
they're not nearly so active.
Whilst I'm typing I'd like to apologise for any comments that
may have offended anyone...I have to confess to having had a liquid lunch and

It's kind of weird to look at PLANET these days and think that I'm looking at images shot forty years ago. I think of movies like FRANKENSTEIN (1931) and KING KONG (1933) as really old, yet when I watched
those in the late '60s when I was a kid, they were only thirty-something-years-old, now PLANET is older than they were then.

I
know what you mean Rory.
When I saw King Kong it was a double bill
with the African Queen.
It certainly seemed older then than Planet
does now.
Maybe that’s testimony to Planet
being rather timeless, or could be as simple as it was shot in colour on
widescreen?

(Passages marked with * were added later by Mr.
Heston)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1965:
June 5. The high point was Arthur Jacobs's pitch
for the film he wants to make of the Boulle novel PLANET OF THE APES. It sounds
marvelous to me, and I haven't even read it yet.
June 7. On the plane to Chicago, I finished
Arthur Jacobs's script and the novel too. It seems like a marvelously good idea
for a film. I'd like to play in it. The rest is up to Citron. (Herman Citron,
Heston's agent)
November 3. THE PLANET OF THE APES project seems
in limbo. Jacobs is now thinking of trying to sweat the budget down to two
million, which seems ridiculous. He also wants to go with a mechanic-director
from television. This seems a mistake, too. On the other hand, it'd be very good
for me if this one came together. It’s certainly the different kind of script
I'm talking about.
1966:
March 7. This afternoon I went over to Fox for an
hour to rehearse the test for THE PLANET OF THE APES. I'm a little sorry I
agreed to do it, on a film not even approved yet, but I did agree. (So shut up
and do it.) * Some weeks previously, Dick Zanuck had said, "Look, this is all
fine, but what if people laugh at the makeup?" The point was reasonable, so was
his offer to finance the research on the ape makeups. "We'll spend whatever it
takes to get them right, then do a test. If the test works, we'll go on the
film." Frank Schaffner and I agreed to do the test, and Eddie Robinson played
Zaius, the ape played in the film by Maurice Evans.
March 8. Not a very long, or very hard day, doing
my part in what, inevitably, is a selling job for PLANET OF THE APES. Herman's
right in saying it's not a good idea, but I think Dick Zanuck needs it. The ape
makeup is very good; it remains to be seen what they look like on
film.
March 15. The APES test looked good. If the
question is whether or not the ape makeup is laughable, the answer is no, it's
very plausible.
March 29. Arthur Jacobs's office is going on
again about Fox's interest in APES, but I can't help but discount it, in view of
Arthur's past history on the piece. * Maybe you're beginning to get the idea
of what a long, tortuous, and disheartening process it is to get a film mounted.
Arthur Jacobs was a man of absolutely unquenchable enthusiasm. Though he'd taken
PLANET OF THE APES to every one of the major studios at least twice and had been
turned down, he remained dauntlessly optimistic, a state of mind that seemed
laughably unrealistic to me. I was wrong, Arthur was right.
September 23. There seems to be some stirrings
from Fox on PLANET OF THE APES, which I thought had long since disappeared. (The
success of FANTASTIC VOYAGE obviously triggering this interest.)
September 26. A very busy day for deals. It turns
out Lew Wasserman at Universal decided he liked WILL PENNY (or me in some film)
the same day Dick Zanuck decided to go with APES. We'll do the western first, as
soon as I finish COUNTERPOINT, then off to England in the spring for APES. This
is a staggering amount of work, but at least it shows the commodity's still
hot.
September 27. They want to pay a flat sum for
expenses in London, which is all right, I suppose. * Oddly enough, Universal
didn't make WILL PENNY, and we didn't shoot APES in England, though I'm damned
if I can remember why.

Hi Michael, I haven't ... and at the moment I'm
playing with photo shop so some of the actual paintings look quite a bit
different than the "Finished" version so I'd feel a bit awkward..
Some times after I've finished I go back at a later
date and paint a bit more.
The Virdon portrait in the trading card set was
like this so once again the "real" thing now looks quite different than the
card.
