|
.html As I mentioned here a few months ago, after hearing that a number of
creators involved the "Revolution on the Planet of the Apes" comics
series were scheduled to appear at this years edition of the Paradise
Toronto Comicon as well as a special artist that worked on the 70's
Marvel POTA magazines, I made plans to get down there and see all
these guys in person. Well the con was last weekend and it was truly
an Ape lovers paradise for myself.
I took a bunch of pictures (see Photos > Paradise2008) and ended up
with more original art as well. I'll try to recap the weekend
chronologically so as not to forget anything or anyone.
I first met up again with Max (Salgood Sam) Douglas, whom I had
already met in Montreal a few months ago to pick up the RotPotA page I
bought off him. We did not chat too much about Apes as I had already
picked his brain before. I did take the opportunity to have Max sign
all four RotPotA issues he worked on.
Next up was Steve Molnar. He was only called in later in the
production when they needed someone who could jump in quickly. As I
talked to him, his exuberant fondness for the original Apes movies was
evident. This would be something of a recurring theme from the whole
gang all weekend long. This goes a long way in explaining the success
of RotPotA; these guys were all very familiar with the legacy material
and respectful of it. Steve enjoyed the degree of liberty that was
provided for this project, something that he said was greater than the
industry norm. At the same time he pointed out that as an artist he
feels that some degree of direction is required to ensure that what is
being produced is consistent.
Next up was Kent Burles. I especially enjoyed meeting him as he was
one of the artists that worked on the 1980's Malibu POTA series. I dug
out a few issues of those Malibus for him to sign as well the
Revolution comics. He did not bring any POTA art but I did pick up a
half-page zombie/ghoul drawing of his. Having looked at a lot of his
art, I find that his horror pieces are where he really excels. What I
found surprising was that he considered those 'easy' to draw compared
to other things. After explaining to him that I had all but two of the
Malibu apes series, he even offered to check his personal stash when
he got back home to see if he has the issues I need. Talk about
customer service! I was just plain thrilled to meet him in person, and
here he is willing to plunder his own books for me.
Next up was Gabriel Morrissette another native Montrealer and well
known artist in the local circles. Much to my surprise he did bring
along a number of POTA sektches that he had done in preparation for
RotPotA and luckily I was able to buy one of these off him. What I
found interesting from the sketches was that he had created a number
of versions of the same scenes/pages. Always seeking perfection I
guess. They ALL looked great to me.
Of course, I had to find Ty "the guy" Templeton who spearheaded/edited
this whole project, provided constant feedback to us fans prior to,
during and after publication of the series and was the (forgive me)
"Ty that binds" the crew together. He proved elusive at first, but
when I finally did track him down, we had a nice long chat about the
project, the unfortunately dim prospects of seeing a trade paperback
edition of the whole series printed, and many, many other things. As
we chatted, Ty started drawing a cool ape head shot for me. Most of
the discussion centered around the apparent reluctance of the
publisher to put out a trade edition. (More on that later)
(Off topic but I know that others here are also aware of the long
awaited Hoverboy comic so I just wanted to touch on that. Originally
advertised in issues of RotPotA, the comic should finally come out in
a month or so. Ty had printed preview copy right there with him that I
was able to peruse. The good news is that a long version of the short
"Documentary" that is available online has been shot and a number of
SF oriented TV channel are inquiring about airing it. Space channel
here in Canada, SCI-FI channel in the US, CTV, etc. So look for it soon).
Before leaving Ty, I thanked him for bending the Canadian content only
rules for Revolution and printing some of Neil Fosters art. As Ty
said, he was just too good an artist to leave out. I agree.
Before the end of the first day, I finally found Herb Trimpe sitting
at a table ahead of a long line of fans waiting for him to draw stuff
in their sketch books. All I wanted was an autograph in one the 70's
POTA Marvel mags as he drew stories in some of the last issues that I
brought along. I did not want to disturb him drawing and it was
begining to look like I would not get a chance. But I hovered around
for a while and was rewarded as he finished a drawing and took a
breather at which point I was able to hand him over an issue to sign.
He smiled at the magazine, signed it and then nearly shocked me when
he said that he still had a lot of that original art at home and
wished he had brought some along. Now just seeing that would have been
something, but I suspect that the selling price (if it was even
offered for sale) would have been out of my pocketbook range. But the
honour of meeting at least one of the original POTA artists was one to
savour that day.
Sam Agro was another artist that was hard to track down, but I
eventually found him sitting at the table for the new Crystal Fractal
comics group. He too was glad to see a fellow Apes fan and gladly
signed my comics. I especially wanted to meet Sam as he was the one
that draw the controversial backup story in issue 4 of Revolution.
That is the story with Taylor's daughter. As I told Sam, it was very
thought provoking but befiting the nature of Apes vs. Humans. We
reminisced about our favorite Marvel apes stories (his being the
fighting ape and human that ended up having to collaborate in order to
survive) and it was then that he gave me a quick rundown of a proposed
backstory for Revolution that was eventually nixed as it contained
religious overtones that some felt were to strong. If a Trade ever
does get made, this story would be a likely extra feature.
Tom Fowler was next. It was Tom Fowler here in Ottawa that first broke
the news to me (and hence the DG) that there was going to be a new Ape
comic series. This was months before production had started. I have
met with him since then to sign my comics, but I still had issue 6 for
him to sign on this weekend. He brought along many of the POTA pages,
and I had a hard time to pick which one I wanted but eventually
settled on the splash page with the gorilla sitting in the president's
oval office.
I knew that Joe O'Brien was around the con somewhere but unlike the
many artists, writers don't usually sit at a table for a period of
time for fans to gather around and meet. Luckily I met up with Joe
hovering around Tom's table and once again had a great talk with a
true POTA fan. He talked about how he brought in many of the canon
elements of the movies while at the same time injecting something new,
particularly building up Caesar as being somewhat clairvoyant and
psychic based on the shot in Conquest where we see him silently
guiding and building the ape army. Inevitably, the topic of the POTA
saga being a circular timeline as opposed to a tangential one came up
and he expressed his views on that. While we are in the minority, I
was glad to report that he is indeed a "Circularist".
So that was the roundup to a magnificent POTA weekend. As fantastic as
it was, it could have been even better had Attila Adorjany been there.
He was originally scheduled to attend as well, but had to cancel just
days before.
One last thing I'd like to add is that while the prospects of having
Revolution come out as a Trade seems dim, most of the fellows were
inclined that just maybe, the publisher could be persuaded. I'm going
to see if I can get the contact information and then write (real
letter folks!) a personal note. As he already has almost all the
material he needs (just a bit of work packaging it all together), he
may be persuaded.

Subject: [PotaDG] The Revolution
gang at Paradise Comicon (and Trimpe!)
As I mentioned here a few months ago, after hearing
that a number of
creators involved the "Revolution on the Planet of the Apes" comics
series were scheduled to appear at this years edition of the Paradise
Toronto Comicon as well as a special artist that worked on the 70's
Marvel POTA magazines, I made plans to get down there and see all
these guys in person. Well the con was last weekend and it was truly
an Ape lovers paradise for myself.
I took a bunch of pictures (see Photos > Paradise2008) and ended up
with more original art as well. I'll try to recap the weekend
chronologically so as not to forget anything or anyone.
I first met up again with Max (Salgood Sam) Douglas, whom I had
already met in Montreal
a few months ago to pick up the RotPotA page I
bought off him.
I dug
out a few issues of those Malibus
for him to sign as well the
Revolution comics. He did not bring any POTA art but I did pick up a
half-page zombie/ghoul drawing of his. Having looked at a lot of his
art, I find that his horror pieces are where he really excels. What I
found surprising was that he considered those 'easy' to draw compared
to other things. After explaining to him that I had all but two of the
Malibu apes series,
he even offered to check his personal stash when
he got back home to see if he has the issues I need. Talk about
customer service!
Of course, I had to find Ty "the guy" Templeton who spearheaded/ edited
this whole project, provided constant feedback to us fans prior to,
during and after publication of the series and was the (forgive me)
"Ty that binds" the crew together.
Space channel
here in Canada , SCI-FI
channel in the US ,
CTV, etc.
That is the story with Taylor 's
daughter. As I told Sam, it was very
thought provoking but befiting the nature of Apes vs. Humans. We
reminisced about our favorite Marvel apes stories (his being the
fighting ape and human that ended up having to collaborate in order to
survive) and it was then that he gave me a quick rundown of a proposed
backstory for Revolution that was eventually nixed as it contained

.htmlYeah, I was going to put a disclaimer. Certainly not my usual message,
but I felt there was a lot to tell that would be of interest. To be
honest, I kind of left out some details.
Like Sam Agro drawing the ape for me. He actually started out drawing an
entirely different ape and then decided that he wanted to try to get a
Urko/Ursus like gorilla with the full headgear. He thought he could have
done better but I thought he did a fantastic job. I'll try to scan in
the art soon so I can post clear versions of the drawings.

Regarding the Revolution trade paperback - if you can get contact
info, do you think it would be of any benefit to bombard this guy
with e-mails from Apes fans, or is the subtle approach better? I'm
sure a lot of people could take the time to register their interest
in this book being published.

Good point Neil.
What would be even better is if we could
start a PayPal account for advanced orders and put our money where our mouths
are! If it falls through we could just refund back through PayPal…

.htmlI think 'bombard with emails' approach is not taken seriously these days
as it's just too easy to do and hence people receiving them do not take
them as seriously as a good old fashioned letter. That's what I intend
to do. Also, just sending the same form letter is also not a good idea,
again an indication of not really being serious enough to write a
personal letter.
I intend to find Steve's mail address and send him a real letter. I
intend to point out that most people who bought the series still intend
(and hope) to buy a collected trade and that having such a series
collected in that manner will likely open up an entirely new market for
the many POTA fans who do not buy traditional comics and don't bother
trying to collect a series piecemeal like that.
From what I understand, Trades are booming and more and more people are
opting for that form of comics.

Like Sam Agro drawing the ape for me.
That's cool.Breaks the story into more digestible articles, like Reader's Digest.

Thanks, Dario, for sharing that info. I'll admit I'm surprised to
hear the creators of Revolution were so optimistic about the
chances of the trade paperback coming out. Those I interviewed for
the timeline book seemed convinced it was never going to happen--but if
something has changed to make them more hopeful, then that's great.
I'd still love to see the book come out, especially given some of the
goodies that were going to be included in it.

I did not mean to give the impression that the creators thought that a
trade was probable. They have pretty much given up on it and even trying
to convince to publisher that he should do it. They have tried it in the
past and just have not been able to convince him and any more clamoring
on their part would probably not help. But they all do believe that it
would take minimal effort for the publisher to put one out IF he could
be convinced that it would be profitable. And given that, it is now
essentially up to US fans to convince him. I wish I could say that a
given amount of 'personal' messages would convince him, but I'm not
sure. At one point I pretty much gave up myself, but I figure the very
least I could do is give it a try myself and at the very least send a
message to him myself, and maybe if others did the same one last gasp
push can be made.
What would it take for him to change his mind? Who knows? It could be as
little as say 50 letters assuming he is intelligent enough to realize
that for every one of us willing to actually send a letter, there are
scores more 'silent' fans that would still buy a trade. <.html

.htmlYeah, I understand. As you say, it's still a long-shot, but the
longer we wait the less likely it becomes. Even though I'm not a US
buyer, I'd be happy to write a letter myself if you think it might
help. You can send me the mail address privately (if you can get it)
if you don't want to make it public. I think it would be a real shame
not to complete the revolution project, I don't expect the 'Empire'
sequel will happen (Ty - any chance of an projected plot for that
story?), but at least Revolution deserves to get it's paperback.

.htmlYeah, Trade Paperbacks are killing traditional comics. My friend
Jonathan's Comic Store is directly across the street from a huge
Barnes & Nobles book store & he constantly hears people who find a
storyline they didn't get when it first ran say "hey, let's go see if
Barnes & Nobles has a collected trade before we try & hunt down all
the issues." Leaving Johnathan out of some needed back issue sales &
the Comic store I get mine from every Wed. is ordering less & less
issues because its easier, cheaper, & more popular to order Trades
for people than to keep a large backstock of back issues.

Dear Michael
Yes I had this for a while but I wasn't very impressed with the UK fanclub even at 11 or 12. I seem to remember sending off for the membership and ticking the Galen pin-up/poster and recieving Zaius and not being
able to read the fan club newsletters as they were so badly printed. Asking you to buy more merchandise etc. The wall diary is a collectable I suppose but It actually brings back not very good memories of saving up
pocket money for something that was very cheap and nasty.

Thanks Rich.
I had this once upon a time, but I thought
it was “better looking”…maybe I was just excited that it’s
set in the TV Show era and is a (kinda) new story.
It’s great to see, regardless.
It had sound too right? Did you
manage to capture the sound?

better than the SPANISH APES stories! J
Would you mind if I use one of these
strips to try a small project?
I was going to bid on the eBay one but it
would be nice to let someone else have it…..

If Rich is happy I think Neil would isolate and enarge/touch up the frames (yet to ask him so maybe not too!) and if it does have an audio track as I seem to recall (or was that just the
talking viewmaster?) I think Kassidy Rae might even help out as she (her hubby actually I think) did with the Power Records Slideshow on Hunter's site.
Could be fun.

that whatever licensing deal MR has must expire at some point unless
they have a clause that specifically allows them to reprint.
As far as I know the MR comics site, "Contact" info
( http://www.mrcomics.ca/contact.htm) is as good as any and I assume that
"Steve" is the recipient of any letters sent there. I was hoping to get
Steve last name and personalize it with that, but I wont have time to
look into that until this weekend at the earliest.

And there's a slightly greater chance of the rapture happening soon, than seeing him reprint the POTA graphic novel. I've been trying to talk him into it for more than a year. You're welcome
to try to dissuade him, in fact, he might enjoy the letters, but I think the odds of you changing his mind are between next to nothing, and nothing.

Was it you who scanned the
Chad Valley
slides?
I ask this because Neil is looking at
enlarging and restoring them and making them into a slideshow.
If you already have something similar
planned for them, we don’t want to step on you toes. However, if it’s
a project up for grabs we’d love to take it on or just help in any way if
we can.

know if it was Mark himself who was responsible for the scanning but
he did send them with the express wish that they be shared with as
much of APEDOM as possible.
With that in mind I think we'd all be delighted to see what you intend

Thanks Dave.
Dave – could you or Mark please tell
me if the CV Projector had sound?
I thought it did, but maybe I’m
thinking of my Talking ViewMaster POTA reels?!?!?!?!!!
Spose I should tell Neil what’s next
after he’s been lugging my darned furniture all weekend.
Hey Neil…..ummm…..

The Chad
Valley scans were sent to
me by Mark Talbot Butler. I don't
know if it was Mark himself who was responsible for the scanning but
he did send them with the express wish that they be shared with as
much of APEDOM as possible.
With that in mind I think we'd all be delighted to see what you intend
to do with them.

Planet of the Apes Blu-ray Box Slated for November
Posted July 25,
2008 11:32 AM by Josh
|
In the most recent issue of Agent DVD
magazine, it was revealed that Fox Home Entertainment would release all
five original 'Planet of the Apes' film in a stunning Blu-ray box set early
this November. In addition to containing all the special features from the
DVDs, Fox has gone back and produced all new HD features.
Additionally, one of the films will be restored from the original, unrated
version. It was not revealed, however, which of the five films would get
the star treatment.
Richard Ashton, director of classics for Fox, commented, "It's the
first time [these movies] are going to be taken seriously." He later
continued, "If you like 'Apes', you'll love this set."

Yeah Rich it’s a weird thing for him
to say “the FIRST time” POTA’s been taken seriously…and
I don’t think it’s that true.
I think he meant “this is the MOST
serious POTA has been taken”.
I think the Ape Head was pretty serious (specifically
BATTLE) and so was releasing the TV Show and particularly RETURN.
But I tell you now, if this is the
original CONQUEST they are restoring I’ll get a Blu-Ray machine tomorrow!

I still think we were lucky to get
anything.
When the TV show was released on VHS it
was a breakthrough and it only really got through because Fox Entertainment
Australia had Ken Taylor there to push it.
Because Ken did all the hard work and got
the VHS release through – it was simple for Fox to do the DVD Box of the
TV Show. They could have done it better, but face people POTA is NOT a
money spinner (and the chance it had to become a money spinner again was blown
by Burton ’s
movie).
Then – with no new sequel coming and
the 5 movies having been repackaged quite a few times, we got the APE
HEAD. A hideous looking thing but a big effort by Fox and it included
RETURN for the first time, and BATTLE
EXTENDED for the first time. Who really would have expected any of that?
I want to see all the outtakes and cut
footage (and even extended versions without directorial consent!) just as much
as the next POTA fan but they won’t spend the money to do this until we
spend the money on POTA.
So I repeat – while the releases are
not perfect, we are very lucky to be getting anything!

As far as the TV show being released, again, no real thought or effort went into that:
A) It was an attempt to cash in on the hype/media attention from pota2001 and it didn't cost them anything to put it out because the show already existed so it didn't cost them one red cent to produce the
show itself.
B) They didn't go back and "clean up" the masters for the show or include any type of extras or commentary so again, it was next to nothing to put the TV series out on DVD.

I see your point Mike but there was not
even TALK of the movie when Ken had the TV Show pushed through on VHS.
And if Ken hadn’t made it easy for
them by doing this (getting the originals tracked etc) then I don’t see
that they would have ever done the VHS because the initial expense of locating
the masters is even too much for Fox at times!
Don’t forget RETURN was accompanied
by the first DVD (official) release of EXTENDED BATTLE. That sure made
the HEAD a lot prettier to me!

I don’t know….what does it mean by the
ORIGINAL UNRATED VERSION?
I would think this lends itself to
CONQUEST because that was not rated when shown to the teat audience….then it
was cut and re-edited and rated.
Am I reading too much into this? Does
anyone know what UNRATED is?

I was in touch with James a while back (trying all avenues to push for
a release of the POTA artwork/paintings), and he seemed fairly
confident that the new release would have the unedited BATTLE in the
European region, based on feedback from someone-or-other. Not sure if
that affects anyone else here. But he didn't give any other clues as to
what might be included. I hope this guy in the statement isn't just
refering to that.

Boy Whitty, you hit it right on the head when you typoed "teat" audience... Because of all those people suckling at mama's teat, we were screwed out of J. Lee Thompson's original cut (as well as Tom
Scott's score which they thought was "too scary" too...)

It's just great to think the apes are still present in the SCiFi world. Still as iconic as ever.
Am still awaiting my chimp costume but have now painted the prosthetic with proper
Latex mask make-up (i think this was invented by Chambers for the apes series?)
and finally after many attempts to get the colour right I think I have done it. I will post some pictures in full face and make-up soon. And when the costume is complete I will go to an English "Con" and get
the apes out there!

Thanks Ty.
For whatever it was worth, I wrote a letter over the weekend and sent it off this morning. I sent it to the address listed as the head office:
504 Iroquois Shore Road Unit 5 Oakville, Ontario Canada L6H 2R7
To those who've asked, I did not have time over the weekend to scan in the art I picked up at the con, but it remains on my "To Do" list and I'll post them here as
soon as I get it done.

Hunter,
Are you aware of any program and / or
hardware that would transfer a dvd from Blu Ray to Standard DVD format?
Maybe there’s a way for the masses?
I will be buying the box-set and a brand
new DVD Player.
Shame, my wife said “yes” to
the new Blu-ray player/HD recorder at $2,000 but I went for the non-blu-ray
$1,200 version a few weeks back…..

Usually they offer Blu-Ray AND standard
versions.
If they don’t, I’m happy to
find a way fans can view the unrated Conquest.
If anyone knows about how to downgrade a
Blu-Ray to a standard DVD please let me know….

Well, the packaging is sharper than I expected, so that's a plus right there...
And yes, they look like APEMANIA faces on the discs to me too... As much as I really like the way they restore the original costumes, and their repros of the costumes are excellent too, their makeup is lacking...
Most of the gorillas I've seen aren't bad, but their chimps and orangutans leave a lot to be desired... Maybe it's the stuff they make them out of, maybe it's their appliance molds but they just
don't capture the actual APES look... They're close but something just isn't right...
I mean this sincerely when I say that maybe Brain at APEMANIA should get in touch with Bill Blake... Bill knows how to properly make the appliances AND even more importantly he knows how to APPLY it convincingly...
I've seen the footage of him doing the Caesar speech from CONQUEST and his makeup was pretty much right on...
(And for those who may want to stir shit up by bringing up the past, I am way past any of that business with "THE INTERROGATION"... And even at that time, I never denounced Bill's makeup artistry... He
should be helping those APEMANIA folks get it "right"...)

I wonder if this new Blu-ray Collection will have any extra footage for BENEATH and ESCAPE, too. Even if they don't add previously deleted scenes into those films, the way they're doing with CONQUEST, it would
still be nice to see scenes included as "extras"... like the first scene in the ESCAPE script (the one showing the Ape-onauts inside the ANSA ship as they witness the destruction of Earth).
I sure hope those Making-of Featurettes will include that stuff... otherwise we'll probably have to wait for the 50th Anniversary edition of POTA on whatever new format they'll have invented by then.
Fittingly, that would be in the year 2018, which is when I place the events of BATTLE (i.e. which is 27 years after the events of CONQUEST, as per Mandemus' line regarding the fact that Caesar's armory had been
his home for that long a time).
I don't have a Blu-ray machine, but I'll be picking up this new edition anyway. And, what the hey, I'll probably have to go out and buy a Blu-ray machine to play 'em on, too. After all, I have POTA
movies on Betamax... on Laserdisc... on VHS... on DVD... If this were the same stuff I already have on DVD, I might pass on it... but, dammit, I gots to get me all those extras! I'm betting that a few of those extra
8 minutes in CONQUEST will be the teaser scene, depicting a failed attempt by an abused ape (a chimp in the John Jakes novelization) to escape Breck's city after having physically assaulted his own master... a scene
referenced later on, in Breck's office during their interrogation of Armando. Ye gods, I remember reading Jakes' novelization way back in the mid-70s... seeing the Alfredo Alcala artwork depicting that scene in
the MARVEL adaptation... and then being super disappointed when I finally bought CONQUEST when it had first been released on videotape, only to find the film opening with the daytime Ape Management depiction.
The lost "tale" of that fugitive chimp being gunned down by Breck's security forces would've been a far better way to set the tone for this dystopian APES sequel, especially as it's a
night-scene. I'm similarly bummed out that MGM nixed the original opening scene from their adaptation of LOGAN'S RUN, showing the Sandman, Francis 7, hunting and "terminating" a Runner. The opening
scene of the original novel showed Logan gunning down a female Runner, also at night. Ever since the mid-to-late 1970's I've "connected" CONQUEST and LOGAN'S RUN thematically, due to that similar
opening scene... and the notion that both societies are depicted as dystopian, oppressive "futuristic" worlds which end up being overthrown in a violent fashion. LOGAN'S RUN had a happier ending, though.
The world of CONQUEST shows us the very beginnings of the epoch when enslaved Apes "turn the tables" on their masters... with the promise of an inevitable Nuclear War on the horizon,
"... when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble...!"
Goddammit! We gotta wait 3 friggin' months for this new expanded version of CONQUEST??? Oh, well... we've already had to wait over 3 damned decades... :-(
Patrick
P.S. I wonder if we'll get to see bonus extra scenes from PLANET, too... like the "Nova's pregnant" scene, and the Hunt Club with the broken cage-wagon scene. And the expanded dialogue Taylor has in
the cage right before the gorillas remove Nova from it. And the scene where Taylor, after escaping from his cage, at one point is in the river, a scene I've heard about -- and, I think, seen one still photo of --
but is rarely mentioned.
We can only hope...

.htmlI have to say I really like the new Blu-ray packaging. That PS3 Santa
brought my Son is looking like a very wise gift indeed!

*** Yes, but does slick packaging equal good content?
Yeah, the content looks good on paper, but will it really be something you'll want to watch again? I'm not
talking about the films here, they're a given to be watched indefinitely... I'm talking about the "new" stuff... Like will that ANSA thing really be worthy of a repeated viewing or will it be a one
time "novelty" item that you'll watch once, say "I seen it" and be done with it... How about the "making of" bits: Will they really be anything worth seeing again? Being that
they're in the 10-12 minute range, I can't see them being anything new or anything we don't already know... I'm guessing they'll just be "new" productions of the same old shit and that same
old shit will be available on the BEHIND documentary which we will be getting once again! People rightfully say that the APES films have been milked dry and there's no doubt that BEHIND is going to be given the same
fate.
The BEHIND feature has to be a real cash cow for them being that it's a documentary which didn't cost much to produce because they used a LOT of already existing material, the people in it probably did it for
a minimal fee or free and since it was produced in cooperation with AMC the cost to FOX was reduced again... What they got in promotion (i.e., "sales") of the films when AMC aired BEHIND during the 30th
Anniversary probably more than made up for any expense that FOX had in producing it... And, since it looks like BEHIND will be included at naseum in any current or future APES releases, it will easily make up it's
cost 10 fold...
I really am hoping this new box set lives up to all the expected hype it's getting on these egroups... I also hope to own it myself someday, but I've got a feeling that a lot of people will be disappointed
when they actually see what the "new" stuff is... Being that they didn't even bother using authentic APES pictures on the DVDs, opting to use APEMANIA stuff, is making me skeptical of it all (especially of
any "new" features...)
And I am suspecting that even the legendary "original cut" of CONQUEST will let a lot of people down... From what I can tell, a lot of people seem to believe that the original cut is gonna practically be
another film altogether... It's still gonna pretty much be what we have now, with just a few tweaks here and there, it's not rewriting APES lore... I'm actually more interested in seeing if they restored the
original score to the film than I am to see another riot officer getting his head bashed... ***

.htmlWell - I would. And I hope I can work out how to make it available if they don't as standard DVD.
