What about the TV Show? I know I have seen BLOOPERS on the old blooper shows of the mid-70s….

*** Exactly what were these bloopers and where did you see them? Truthfully, I can't even see a blooper show, at least here in the States showing any TV series bloopers, being that by the mid-70s when you said they appeared, the APES series was probably well forgoten by the general public... And the general public would probably have no desire to see screw ups from a TV show they either forgot or never cared for anyway... Those blooper shows are always about digging up things from "popular" shows... ***

Sideshow Collectibles Revisits Planet Of The Apes
Posted by D_Martin on October 30, 2008 at 08:36 PM CST:
Sideshow has announced the future of their Planet Of The Apes collection. While there are no images yet, they have revealed that they will be producing premium format figures based on these classic films. Needless to say, we're very excited about this and will provide more information as soon as it is available.

the ship actually been on Earth for some time before the rest of the

But granted, it COULD be a “third” ship.

You know – it doesn’t make much LESS sense than a lot of the other bullshit “flubs”!  But no, it does not make a lot of sense.

It’s pretty clear (to me at least) that in ESCAPE it’s TAYLOR ’S ship and it makes little sense why they would SAY it was if it wasn’t.  They just did not think it through.  That’s the key I think is setting a scenario where it’s plausible that there’s a reason for someone claiming it is Taylor ’s, but it isn’t.

Neil and I didn’t try to EXPLAIN the ship thing in “BEYOND”, but we did show Milo discovering a “Museum” filled with various ships from various stages of human history, and left him with the capability of learning how to fly it and years to play with the ships there (so you can conclude, without us making anything “canon”, that he could have rebuilt Taylor’s ship).

      No – it’s true Mike.

I have the memory of it, anyway.

I don’t recall the name of the show – something like “famous Hollywood Bloopers” – but I do recall there being about 3 different TV Show bloopers and I seem to recall 2 of them being Roddy’s lines and the other being someone bumping into someone or something on the set and the actors all rolling around laughing.

There was also stuff from “Swiss Family Robinson” on the show, and other movies (including, I think, a stormtrooper running into something in the background of SW – very funny!).

      Michael

Even though it was the 4th film I still see it as a valid starting
point myself as it is about how the apes gained control, which was the
start of the Planet of the Apes after all.

      Okay, thanks Neil.
Rich that was just something rough I came up with one day on the spur
of the moment and haven't got any further with yet, maybe one day I'll
just start up on it again you never know, it happens sometimes. :-)
But you or anyone else are more than welcome to write the rest of the
      story for me. ;-)

Actually you may be in luck Dario, after looking at that page again (I did it ages ago and had sort of forgotten about it to tell the truth) I had an idea for a direction to possibly take the story in. I'll have to give it a bit more thought though.

This is just a post to intro myself and say hi. I'm Melinda or Mel, from the Chicago area, 27yrs old. I've known about the franchise for like forever, but the interest just came on suddenly recently. I had been meaning to check the novel out from our little town library and finally did it and then had to get the movies on DVD from the bigger library I work at. I think it was bound to happen because I like dystopian and post-apocalyptic stories aynway as well as having an interest in 'furry' or animal characters. I'm very picky about what interests me and it's hard for me to find stories that draw me in.

Thus far I'm only through the third film but Conquest is the one I've been waiting for the most, so I'm looking forward to it. (yes I think they should make a sixth film because there's still a gap between Battle and the original.

Hey, can anyone just not get certain scenes out of their head? The Stewart-mummy scene, the 'you cut up his brain' scene, and that final narration from Beneath just won't go away lol. But then Beneath is creepy-ish anyway with the mutants.

I know I'm going to be one of those ones dissecting the whole time-travel paradox thing and wanting to discuss it; it's intriguiging but hard to wrap one's mind around lol.

The remake was on FX tonmight if anyone noticed. It seems they want back to the spirit of the ending of Boulle's novel for its ending. I haven't watched all of it yet but I taped it to watch later. (while I was watching Escape lol)

Anyway, just wanted to say hi *waves*

It's quite good! So did you have a specific concept for a story in
mind when you drew those panels, or did you just let your imagination
flow, figuring the story would later come from the art? I've always
        found the creativity process fascinating.

        Welcome to the DG Mel.

We're always looking for fresh faces and new people to discuss the
movies and the franchise. To be honest, most of the regulars here and
the other groups have been around for ages and we've probably already
discussed whatever you bring up a million times, but don't let that stop
you from asking any questions or giving your thoughts. Just remember
that there are always many interpretations and not everyone will always
agree. As an example, I noticed that you said "there's still a gap
between Battle and the original". I assume by that you mean that you
feel that the movies were intended to represent a circular timeline.
There are not too many here that favor that point of view. But there are
some like myself and Neil who have always felt that it was intended to
        be that.

Have fun and take look around the files and photos sections when you
        have a chance.

        Dario

Yes, welcome to the circular vs linear theory!

Mel, I don’t believe there’s a gap between Battle and Planet.  I believe ESCAPE changed the future of the apes and that there was a different uprising before Planet.

Mainly because that means I can attempt to write a more sensible version of the ape revolution!  J

Absolutely no story concept at all when I started drawing it. I had a
couple of one off sketches that were lying around for a while that
ended up as the basis for some of the final panels but most of it just

I was just reading about this stuff on Last Flight of the Icarus
        (http://www.goingfaster.com/icarus/tableofcontents.htmllol. Here's
        what it says

Q: Well, if it wasn't Taylor's spacecraft that came back to Earth
in "Escape from the Planet of the Apes", then who's spacecraft was it?

A: The best answer that I can give is that it was Brent's
spacecraft, and a different one than we see in the second movie.
What this means is that Brent and Skipper arrived in two different
spacecraft and that there are actually three spacecraft in the first
two movies. We know that Taylor's ship sinks, and it never had a
side hatch. Skipper's ship crashes and is a total loss in the second
movie, but where did the three seater ANSA spacecraft with a side
hatch come from? It was Brent's ship, and it was off-camera the
entire time. See MISSION DETAILS for more information on this line
        of reasoning.

It was Taylor's, so the question is moot.

I was just reading about this stuff on Last Flight of the Icarus
        (http://www.goingfas ter.com/icarus/ tableofcontents..html")lol. Here's
        what it says

Q: Well, if it wasn't Taylor 's spacecraft that came back to Earth
in "Escape from the Planet of the Apes", then who's spacecraft was it?

A: The best answer that I can give is that it was Brent's
spacecraft, and a different one than we see in the second movie.
What this means is that Brent and Skipper arrived in two different
spacecraft and that there are actually three spacecraft in the first
two movies. We know that Taylor 's ship sinks, and it never had a
side hatch. Skipper's ship crashes and is a total loss in the second
movie, but where did the three seater ANSA spacecraft with a side
hatch come from? It was Brent's ship, and it was off-camera the
entire time. See MISSION DETAILS for more information on this line
        of reasoning.

It’s certainly intended to be Taylor ’s ship but the script is sloppy and it’s not sacrilege (IMHO) for people to theorise about ways to explain it.

But first, explain Brent and Skipper BEING there!!!!

How do they know Taylor is missing?

Taylor went away to start a colony!

He wasn’t expected back – and they knew about Hasslein’s theory so if he DID come back it would have been 6955 when he got there!

So was Brent from 6956?  J

Well, I noticed very little difference in the Extended cut of
Conquest. It still ends with the tacked on speech, lots of gunfire
        though.

I've been having trouble viewing everything on my PS3. Keeps kicking
me back to the main menu quite a bit. Anybody else using a PS3 to
        view?

The packaging is pretty damn cool (though the disc are hard to keep
in the thing), the book is much cooler & larger than I was expecting
& several pics I've never seen.

There are computer animated intros from the Lawgiver. My son thought
        they were cool.

A trivia game with type so small (or my old school TV) making it hard
        to play.

I didn't enjoy the ANSA message. It tried to make it seem that they
knew the crew were going to gone for all those years & the whole
        thing wasn't an accident.

Some of the featurettes have been pretty decent. The photo gallery
        hasn't been anything special.

I'll try to chime in more once I've played around with them a little
more. All in all its the best Apes set yet & if my PS3 wasn't making
it hard to view everything, I think I'd be really excited by it all.

It’s weird that the speech is still there.

Are you sure you are watching the right one?

I heard the standard version is on the disc too – any chance you selected the standard CONQUEST?

Is there a chase scene at the start?

it hard to view everything, I think I'd be really excited by it all.

The added speech isn't there. The unrated version has the original screen test ending.
        Trust me. :o)

        Conquest Unrated totally rocks!

It's weird that the speech is still there.

Are you sure you are watching the right one?

I heard the standard version is on the disc too – any chance you selected the standard CONQUEST?

Is there a chase scene at the start?

Hey, all you Blu-Ray owners--any chance anyone here could transcribe
the ANSA public service announcement and e-mail it to me ASAP? I'm
very curious about hearing what's in it before we release the timeline

It's made to look like an old NASA film from the 70's explaning the Icarus mission.
I believe it was made just for the blu-ray release. In other words it's made to look old but really isn't.

I don't know about PS3's but blu-ray players can be upgraded at www.blu-raydisc.com/forbestresults
You may need to check with the official PS3 site and see if that option is the same with PS3 players.
I had the same problem but it was only a matter of upgrading the player. It was free and simple to do.

watched it I did some searches for and apparently it's never been
defined. It looks something like what a NASA science film from the
60s would look like--guy giving the spiel about what the project is,
showing a model, shows some photos that actually look like the prop
ship on the studio lot, etc."

Here's what I received regarding a transcript of the ANSA
footage...there re some VERY interesting revelations in this!

        * * *

        Here goes...

[ This video primarily is of someone talking, intersperse with short
shots of video and still shots, and some animations. I refer to the
person talking as "talking guy". I don't quite recognize him. The
video style is made to look grainy and washed out, and rough-cut as
if it had been spliced to have damaged parts removed. Think something
like the DHARMA videos on Lost. It isn't very obtrusive though, I
think it is just an effect to make it seem like the "film" is old]

A Public Service Announcement From ANSA

        [Running time 6:06]

        [Opening text]
Auditors at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. recently
discovered a reel of sixteen-millimeter film with the label "Project
        Liberty" on the container.

The Library of Congress has since confirmed this artifact's
importance to the history of the United States space program.

The film is presented here to the general public for the first time,
        unaltered and without editorial comment.

[An animated ANSA logo appears on a sky blue background with some
music, and the text "ANSA PRESENTS: PROJECT LIBERTY" appears at the bottom]

[The film begins... starting with a shot of a building with waving
palm trees in front, then the view tilts upward, past a U.S. flag to
the top of the building...fade in to a shot of talking guy sitting at
an office desk, wearing a blue blazer and thin black tie. He has sandy hair -
short but not a crew cut, and black horn-rimmed classes. The desk is
pretty bare, with a blotter, wide desk lamp, black
standard phone, pen-pencil holder, ash tray and rolodex. His hands
are folded resting on a black flexible-plastic three ring
binder with some pages in it. There is a U.S. flag and a table with a
plant on it in the background, and the ANSA logo on the
        wall above]

ANSA - what do the letters stand for? Are they just another anagram
in the alphabet soup of national bureaucracies? What do
they mean? To be precise, the letters are government shorthand for
the American National Space Administration. But what do they
        really mean?

[Start short cuts to various shots of scientists and scientific stuff]

ANSA stands for the greatest conglomerate of scientific vision and
knowledge in the history of mankind. Nothing less than that.

        [Back to the talking guy]

And if I sound like I'm bursting with pride, it's because I am.

[He gets up and walks around the desk]

We at ANSA have come a long way in ten years, both figuratively and
literally. From science fiction dream and the fertile
imagination of Chairman Doctor Otto Hasslein, [shot of Dr. Hasslein,
then more various shots with occasional shots of the
talking guy while he continues] the
program quickly progressed to the first manned spacecraft to orbit
the Earth. With the combined brilliance of the finest minds
in aerospace science, Dr. Hasslein then turned his attention to
exploring other worlds, landing men on the moon, and then the
red planet - Mars. But ANSA's vision could not be limited by our own
solar system. Human exploration of Earth's neighboring
planets served as only a prelude to ANSA's further ambitions. Photon
propulsion, and near light speed travel have now allowed
Dr. Hasslein and his team to target distant galaxies and nebulae for
        their next destinations.

The result? Project Liberty, in which a manned spaceflight will be
sent to the distant constellation Centaurus - 4 light
years away. The purpose of the mission is a selfless one - to
increase the knowledge of man for yet to be born generations.

[Back to the talking guy, who now points out and later shows a model
of the ship which appears to be sitting on a wool coat.]

This is the Liberty 1 - a winged chariot that will propel man into
the greatest adventure ever conceived. Built to withstand
the pressures of near-light speed travel, the Liberty represents the
technological crown jewel of the ANSA fleet.

[shot of an orange-colored "blueprint" of the ship, followed by some
shots of the ship on a flatbed truck - perhaps shots of
        the unfinished prop?]

After a 5-year series of exhaustive tests and prototypes, the ANSA
team are confident that it is ready to carve out its place in
        annals history.

        [back to talking guy briefly]

Like a shooting star, the Liberty will slice through space at
velocities approaching the speed of light.

[White on blue animation showing "Astronaut Time" and "Earth Time"
clocks starting at 01/14/1972 and ending at 06/14/1973 AT,
        06/14/3972 ET]

Dr. Hasslein discovered that under this circumstance, time dilates.
The astronauts aboard the ship will age only 18 months,
while 2000 years will have elapsed on Earth.

[Back to talking guy, sitting on edge of desk]

ANSA's Life Science group have created the means for chemically
inducing human hibernation aboard the spacecraft. The
astronauts will sleep inside hermetically sealed pods in suspended
animation during in what for them will be a four year
flight. [a couple of still shots from inside the ship from the movie]

Of course this means that these brave space pioneers can never return
to the world they knew. They will be leaving everything and
everybody behind, never to see them again. After their successful
voyage, the world they return to will undoubtedly be very
        different.

[Head shot of Charlton Heston, slow zoom out to show him in a flight suit]

Colonel George Taylor leads the team into space. West Point graduate,
class of '41, ace fighter pilot in both World War II and
the Korean War, Colonel Taylor became the first candidate of ANSA's
elite astronaut corps. When asked why he would leave behind
the world he knew to explore the vastness of deep space, he answered
simply, "For the promise of a better world."

[other astronaut cast shots and a group shot]

Lieutenant John Landon serves as navigator on board the Liberty 1.
Distinguishing himself as navigator on ANSA's Juno Mars
mission, Lieutenant Landon automatically became the prime choice for
the Liberty Project. After searching their souls and
weighing the sacrifice, John and his wife proudly chose to add the
Lieutenant's talents to the mission. His infant son Mike
will grow to manhood knowing that his father bravely conquered
nothing less than time and space.

Lieutenant Thomas Dodge serves as head science officer. At the
relatively young age of 35, Lieutenant Dodge exhibits the vision
of a man with twice his years. He admits yearning to find intelligent
life at the crew's ultimate destination. A dream he has
often discussed as professor of organic chemistry at Annapolis.

Lieutenant Maryann Stewart, 33, is both a career astronaut and a
respected biological researcher. A veteran of ANSA's Apollo
and Juno space programs, she brings experience, curiosity, and
        old-fashioned guts to the team.

[During this next sequence, there are two drop outs where it appears
that the film slips a bit, with an overlay of film stock
on the footage of the talking guy, with no audio]

Two first alternates round out the crew - [drop out, followed what
sounds like "French"], 34, and Colonel Skipper Donovan, 38.
        [drop out]

Of course, as we bid farewell to our colleagues, the parting will be
bittersweet. We wish them Godspeed, and we envy the
unimaginable wonders they will encounter. We also realize that, for
us, it is a final goodbye. They are embarking on a journey
that we cannot share. We can only imagine the wonders they will bring
back to relatives as distant as the stars themselves.

[Talking guy removes his glasses, still sitting on his desk]

Late one night, Doctor Hasslein sat alone at his desk, the last to
leave the ANSA building, and his mind drifted from equations
and graphs to the human adventure about to begin. The sadness of
sacrifice and the thrill of discovery filled his imagination
as he grappled with his feelings. Something of an amateur poet, he
picked up a pen and wrote some words on the back of an
envelope, and those words have become a motto and a prayer for the
Liberty Project, and its intrepid explorers.

        To the distant reaches, climb
        Far beyond space
        Far beyond time

        presentation" appearing at the bottom.]

This has probably been answered before but I forget: are the 'Aged Galen' intros considered canon by anyone?

          Very, very interesting.

A name for Stewart, background info on the team, the mention of Skipper (not Brent?), the admission that they knew the crew was not to return to Earth (so how did they launch Brent and Skipper to "rescue" them?)......

I wonder if this is based on old documents at Fox or just made up?

Here's what I received regarding a transcript of the ANSA footage...there re some VERY interesting revelations in this! * * * Here goes... [ This video primarily is of someone talking, intersperse with short shots of video and still shots, and some animations. I refer to the person talking as "talking guy". I don't quite recognize him. The video style is made to look grainy and washed out, and rough-cut as if it had been spliced to have damaged parts removed. Think something like the DHARMA videos on Lost. It isn't very obtrusive though, I think it is just an effect to make it seem like the "film" is old] A Public Service Announcement From ANSA [Running time 6:06] [Opening text] Auditors at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. recently discovered a reel of sixteen-millimeter film with the label "Project Liberty" on the container. The Library of Congress has since confirmed this artifact's importance to the history of the United States space program. The film is presented here to the general public for the first time, unaltered and without editorial comment. [An animated ANSA logo appears on a sky blue background with some music, and the text "ANSA PRESENTS: PROJECT LIBERTY" appears at the bottom] [The film begins... starting with a shot of a building with waving palm trees in front, then the view tilts upward, past a U.S. flag to the top of the building...fade in to a shot of talking guy sitting at an office desk, wearing a blue blazer and thin black tie. He has sandy hair - short but not a crew cut, and black horn-rimmed classes. The desk is pretty bare, with a blotter, wide desk lamp, black standard phone, pen-pencil holder, ash tray and rolodex. His hands are folded resting on a black flexible-plastic three ring binder with some pages in it. There is a U.S. flag and a table with a plant on it in the background, and the ANSA logo on the wall above] ANSA - what do the letters stand for? Are they just another anagram in the alphabet soup of national bureaucracies? What do they mean? To be precise, the letters are government shorthand for the American National Space Administration. But what do they really mean? [Start short cuts to various shots of scientists and scientific stuff] ANSA stands for the greatest conglomerate of scientific vision and knowledge in the history of mankind. Nothing less than that. [Back to the talking guy] And if I sound like I'm bursting with pride, it's because I am. [He gets up and walks around the desk] We at ANSA have come a long way in ten years, both figuratively and literally. From science fiction dream and the fertile imagination of Chairman Doctor Otto Hasslein, [shot of Dr. Hasslein, then more various shots with occasional shots of the talking guy while he continues] the program quickly progressed to the first manned spacecraft to orbit the Earth. With the combined brilliance of the finest minds in aerospace science, Dr. Hasslein then turned his attention to exploring other worlds, landing men on the moon, and then the red planet - Mars. But ANSA's vision could not be limited by our own solar system. Human exploration of Earth's neighboring planets served as only a prelude to ANSA's further ambitions. Photon propulsion, and near light speed travel have now allowed Dr. Hasslein and his team to target distant galaxies and nebulae for their next destinations. The result? Project Liberty, in which a manned spaceflight will be sent to the distant constellation Centaurus - 4 light years away. The purpose of the mission is a selfless one - to increase the knowledge of man for yet to be born generations. [Back to the talking guy, who now points out and later shows a model of the ship which appears to be sitting on a wool coat.] This is the Liberty 1 - a winged chariot that will propel man into the greatest adventure ever conceived. Built to withstand the pressures of near-light speed travel, the Liberty represents the technological crown jewel of the ANSA fleet. [shot of an orange-colored "blueprint" of the ship, followed by some shots of the ship on a flatbed truck - perhaps shots of the unfinished prop?] After a 5-year series of exhaustive tests and prototypes, the ANSA team are confident that it is ready to carve out its place in annals history. [back to talking guy briefly] Like a shooting star, the Liberty will slice through space at velocities approaching the speed of light. [White on blue animation showing "Astronaut Time" and "Earth Time" clocks starting at 01/14/1972 and ending at 06/14/1973 AT, 06/14/3972 ET] Dr. Hasslein discovered that under this circumstance, time dilates. The astronauts aboard the ship will age only 18 months, while 2000 years will have elapsed on Earth. [Back to talking guy, sitting on edge of desk] ANSA's Life Science group have created the means for chemically inducing human hibernation aboard the spacecraft. The astronauts will sleep inside hermetically sealed pods in suspended animation during in what for them will be a four year flight. [a couple of still shots from inside the ship from the movie] Of course this means that these brave space pioneers can never return to the world they knew. They will be leaving everything and everybody behind, never to see them again. After their successful voyage, the world they return to will undoubtedly be very different. [Head shot of Charlton Heston, slow zoom out to show him in a flight suit] Colonel George Taylor leads the team into space. West Point graduate, class of '41, ace fighter pilot in both World War II and the Korean War, Colonel Taylor became the first candidate of ANSA's elite astronaut corps. When asked why he would leave behind the world he knew to explore the vastness of deep space, he answered simply, "For the promise of a better world." [other astronaut cast shots and a group shot] Lieutenant John Landon serves as navigator on board the Liberty 1. Distinguishing himself as navigator on ANSA's Juno Mars mission, Lieutenant Landon automatically became the prime choice for the Liberty Project. After searching their souls and weighing the sacrifice, John and his wife proudly chose to add the Lieutenant's talents to the mission. His infant son Mike will grow to manhood knowing that his father bravely conquered nothing less than time and space. Lieutenant Thomas Dodge serves as head science officer. At the relatively young age of 35, Lieutenant Dodge exhibits the vision of a man with twice his years. He admits yearning to find intelligent life at the crew's ultimate destination. A dream he has often discussed as professor of organic chemistry at Annapolis. Lieutenant Maryann Stewart, 33, is both a career astronaut and a respected biological researcher. A veteran of ANSA's Apollo and Juno space programs, she brings experience, curiosity, and old-fashioned guts to the team. [During this next sequence, there are two drop outs where it appears that the film slips a bit, with an overlay of film stock on the footage of the talking guy, with no audio] Two first alternates round out the crew - [drop out, followed what sounds like "French"], 34, and Colonel Skipper Donovan, 38. [drop out] Of course, as we bid farewell to our colleagues, the parting will be bittersweet. We wish them Godspeed, and we envy the unimaginable wonders they will encounter.
