Very, very interesting.

A name for Stewart, background info on the team, the mention of Skipper (not Brent?), the admission that they knew the crew was not to return to Earth (so how did they launch Brent and Skipper to "rescue" them?)......

I wonder if this is based on old documents at Fox or just made up?

What's added in the unrated edition of Conquest? I assume it lacks the
added-on ending but what else is in it that's not in the standard
edition?

I got the POTA Revisited book in through interlibrary loan
today...pretty good. I noticed that either the filmmakers or the writer
appear to hold to the closed loop timeline thing.

I'm looking forward to the Timeline book due out next month...what's it
called, Timeline of the Apes?

I think DK Publishing should do a guide like they've done for numerous
other franchises...they've done several Star Wars, an Indiana Jones,
and I have their CSI TV show book. Pretty good stuff. A POTA one would
rock.

One of the local LA network affiliates was running an
Apes week showing the TV show stitched together
into movies.  Roddy did the bumps as an aged Galen.

In case anyone's interested: I was cleaning up and ran across a few "reject" foam pieces of my Zira and Julius faces from comic con.  They're unpainted, toothless, and have defects (inside and/or surface).  But, they're good for practice applications.  If anyone wants one, e-mail me privately.  I'm not sure of how many I have.

The clips were included in the first Apes Rarities DVD that I made.

And a first name for Dodge too, I guess 'French' could be 'Brent' mis-
    heard?
But 'Liberty 1'? And 'Colonel Donovan'? I'd have thought if they were
just making it up (presumably they did) it would have been better to go
along with the POTA fans and stuck with Icarus and Maddox. My guess is
that this stuff probably will become canon, just because it's on an
official release, especially as newer fans become interested.

Thanks for sharing this Rich - does this mean you have to re-write big
    chunks of your book now?!

Personally, I do consider them canon, for the fact that it's Roddy
portraying Galen. In my mind though, Galen's talking to some kid/kids
who come to visit him every evening and hear him talk about his
adventures (a human kid would make the most sense), with that in
mind, his line about the astronauts disappearing into the sky could
be just something to tell a young kid, a happy ending that may or may
not be accurate. And I'd like to think the electric lamp and computer
screen he has switched on in the background are running off a home
made battery like Virdon and Burke showed him how to make in 'The
    Legacy'.
    You know it makes sense!

Yes...I put photos of the session on the Forum of the Apes....under costume how-to, Zira's outfit...or something like that.

Probably true. I can see them ignoring Icarus--it's an odd name for
a spaceship, given that it refers to a guy who crashed to the Earth
while trying to fly. LOL. Donovan surprised me, though--since the
name "Maddox" is mostly visible on his jacket, you'd think they would
    have stuck with that one.

frustrating since the book was completely done as of a few days

Surely they could have looked at the film and checked the name on his spacesuit? They had their surnames on them didn't they?

I went & bought the $25 Blu Ray DVD remote for the PS3 thinking maybe
it would navigate the menus but the upgrade was what was needed.

The unrated "Conquest" is like the Apes Holy Grail for me. I'm more
of a horror/monster film guy & when I first heard about the original
cut being "too much blood & too much gore," I thought it had to be an
exaggeration. I mean, the hunt in "Planet of the Apes" with the pile
of bodies & human trophies on poles is a big part of what attracted
me to the series & the violence & Caesar's anger were what
made "Conquest" my favorite sequel. There was so much emotion in that
film. I never dreamed that it really was filmed the way it was, & I
sure the Hell never expected to get to see it. It is fantastic. To
see the apes being shot in the face & that 70's way too red blood
flowing everywhere was mind blowing & to have it end with Caesar
still flushed with rage & the brutal slaying of Gov. Breck left me
sitting there with goosebumps feeling like a shocked kid all over
      again.

I don't know if it's region free but if you buy the U.S. version then yes, Conquest Unrated is on the same disc as Conquest Theatrical.
The five discs in the boxset are the same five in the single packages.

I just ran some tests all 5 films on DTS 5.1 and here's what I got from a scale from 1 to 5.
1 being the worst, 5 being the best.

      2 - Planet
      5 - Beneath
      3.5 - Escape
      3.5 - Conquest
      3.5 - Battle

Planet: Sounds much cleaner and sharper compared to previous releases but the suround sound just isn't there. The best you get are moments when the score can be heard slightly in the rear speakers apart from the dialog in the front center speakers.

Beneath: BIG 5! Complete separation of music score, dialog and sounds throughout the movie. Whatever they did to Beneath, I wished they would have done to the rest of the films.

Escape, Conquest and Battle: Separation is there between music score, dialog and sounds but nowhere near the level of Beneath. However much better than "Planet." Overall, Escape, Conquest and Battle falls between Planet and Beneath in DTS and can be enjoyed more so than Planet in suround sound quality.

all seen on the lobby card & then seeing him get beat to death was
just all incredible to me. I've been in a "Famous Monsters of
Filmland" type heaven ever since I got that damn PS3 navigating the
      menus.

All the featurettes have been pretty damn good too. It really is a
set with enough "new" material to make it worth buying again. Its not
just a George Lucas "here's Star Wars again, gimme your money" feel
to it. Some effort was finally put into this set. I'm pretty happy
with it. The coffee table book was nicer than I was expecting for a
DVD bonus type thing & all the previously availible extras are
included for the DVDs. I thought the animated Lawgiver & ANSA message
were a little cheesey but my son loved them. So maybe they were onto
      something there?

My transcriber has rewatched the ANSA footage to be sure, and says
"French" was actually "Brent," which makes much more sense. The
footage at that point is made to sound garbled, so he didn't catch it

I've been looking into this and asking a lot of questions and here's a
      summary of what I've discovered...

REGION ENCODING for POTA on Blu Ray

1: 85% of Blu Ray titles released by FOX are region encoded (The
percentage is much lower for other studios)

2: It has not yet been confirmed anywhere if the POTA discs are region
encoded or region free. There are web sites that lists U.S titles that
are known to be region free but so far POTA isn't on any of them. If
that changes I'll let you know.

MULTI REGION Playback on Blu Ray

Also I've been looking into the availability of multi-region
hacks/mods for Blu Ray players and it's pretty murky. Usually, if a
hack or modification is available - or if units are being sold as
'multi-region' - then BEWARE - that term applies to the units ability
to play region-encoded standard DVDs NOT Blu rays!

At present I have only found two units that appear to be genuinely
multi-region for Blu ray playback. Both are very expensive and both
have to hacked via the remote control each time you want to switch
      regions.

REGION B (Europe - New Zealand - Australia)

The UK release of the anniversary set appears to be identical to the
USA version except it doesn't appear to include the book (unconfirmed)
      or deluxe packaging (unconfirmed).

To date I have been unable to find full spec listings for the UK
release so I'm not even sure if REGION B will include all the special
features (We often lose one or two to make room for extra language
      options)

I have emailed and written to FOX Home entertainment (UK) asking for
clarification but to date have received no reply.

      So - to summarise.

If you live outside of the USA/Canada then you are probably REGION B.

If you import your discs from the USA there is an 85% chance they will
not play - but you WILL get the book AND deluxe packaging.

If you purchase the UK set and you are REGION B the discs will play
but it looks like you won't be getting the book or deluxe packaging
      (unconfirmed).

Hope this helps some of you outside of the US/Canada make your choice.
If I get any further clarification I'll pas sit along

Of course I want to see the new material but (once again!) I won't be

Ahhhh….no, Graham, I’m talking the US version!

I too loved the LOM series (and I watch the spin-off Ashes to Ashes).

Neil and I watched an unaired pilot for the new US version (I downloaded and it) and it had its moments.  Had “O’Brien” from Star Trek (DS9) playing the chief.  Looked very similar (word for word actually), but like it could work.

I started downloading the series as it aired and it’s really very good.  It tends to treat the audience as less intelligent (ie explains a lot more, in a lot more detail), but it’s very well done and has little bits that do fit in, that were not in the originals!

Havey Keitel as the Chief too!

Anyway, if you liked or loved the UK LOM, give it a go.

        Michael

        Hi Tim.

        It’s a great show!

I actually recommend you hunt down the UK version too.

I don’t know about POTA – maybe on the TV one night.

Oh – the other thing about the US version is the music….a whole lot more of it is featured and it’s awesome!  J

Get ready for another movie folks.

It’s fairly obvious someone at Fox has been listening to fans.

        Two timelines?

A new Conquest script (here’s betting the twist is that it’s a PREQUEL!).

        New Sideshows.

FINDING and RESTORING the unrated CONQUEST!!!!!!

God – let’s hope they get this one RIGHT!

Ty – did you know of this script when you did the comics?

Did Fox SUGGEST you do something set around CONQUEST?

        Michael

That’s what I’m wondering but I thought the line “listening to the fans” covers those options too!  J

It’s fairly obvious someone at Fox has been listening to fans.

        Okay, this is weird...

Even though the ANSA film says "Donovan," the timeline in the same
boxset indicates his name is Maddox.

Maybe his name is Donovan Maddox?

Thanks again for that, Tim. (And yeah, the Blu-Ray timeline
definitely has some odd dates on it.)

Who's the author of the novelization of the original POTA movie? I'd
like to get it via interlibrary loan but it would be easier if I could
bring up just it and not all the Pierre Boulle entries.

        that is a good question
but ironically there never was a novelization of the original movie !!
because they always promoted the Boulle book

you can propably find the first movie scripts online though to read

Actually, there is no novelization of the original film. There's
Boulle's novel and novelizations of the four sequels, both TV shows
        and the remake.

Hi Tim, your poster doesn't appear on the home page (I read all the message off that)

If you post a link or E-Mail me a copy I'll give it a go trying to post it to the files.

(Every thing seems fine at my end so I should be able to do it, not sure why you've had problems I've checked the settings so you should be able to?, one of those yahoo glitches I suppose.)

        Graham.

I'm a bit confused about the part of the timeline that
says "Ceasar ...learns of the impending end of the world,
inadvertantly caused by war-hungry gorillas led by General Aldo", do
they mean Ursus? I checked back to the tape watched by Ceasar
in 'Battle', and the recordings must have been edited because there's
no mention of Aldo on them. Zira gets cut off at "thirty-nine
fifty..." instead of "thirty-nine fifty-something", and I think
Cornelius' part must have been re-recorded by Roddy because it sounds
        different rather than just edited.

Anyway, conclusive proof of the two-timelines theory. :-) I expect
there'll be full apologies from the circularists on the group!

The good folks at Fox Movie Channel sent over the following advanced warning. Caution: if the concept of non-human simians running rampant and conquering the world sends you into a state of instant panic then you should look away now. On the bright side, no worries about tryptophan immobilizing you during the long Thanksgiving Weekend, what with damn dirty apes going amok on your TV. Read all the details below and notify your family accordingly.

This Thanksgiving weekend, the apes are taking over Fox Movie Channel. "Channel of the Apes," the four day tribute to the ground-breaking Planet of the Apes science-fiction franchise, includes the first five theatrical films, five television movies and the premiere of Fox Legacy: Planet of the Apes.

Channel of the Apes is scheduled for Thursday, November 27 through Sunday, November 30.
Kicking off the initial run of the theatrical films will be the premiere of Fox Legacy: Planet of the Apes on Thursday, November 27 at 8:00pm ET. Tom Rothman, Chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, introduces this landmark 20th Century Fox film and provides insight about how this notable film was created.

Presented in their original widescreen format, all five of the theatrical films will be included throughout the holiday weekend.

          * Planet of the Apes 1968
          *
Beneath the Planet of the Apes 1970
          *
Escape from the Planet of the Apes 1971
          *
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes 1972
          *
Battle for the Planet of the Apes 1973

Channel of the Apes will also include the feature-length television movies made from episodes of the cult 1974 television series.

          * Back to the Planet of the Apes 1981
          *
The Forgotten City of the Apes 1981
          *
Treachery and Greed on the Planet of the Apes 1981
          *
Life, Liberty, and Pursuit on the Planet of the Apes 1981
          *
Farewell to the Planet of the Apes 1981

Chuck Saftler, General Manager of Fox Movie Channel, said "Fox Movie Channel is delighted to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of this landmark science fiction franchise with both the theatrical and television films."

"The popularity of the Planet of the Apes films continues to grow due to their unique tone, strong characterizations and epic stories." said VP of Programming Adam Lewinson.

Throughout the month of November, Fox Movie Channel, in partnership with Fox Home Entertainment, will present the Channel of the Apes Sweepstakes at www.foxmoviechannel.com. Prizes include the Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection and a Blu-ray player.

Fox Movie Channel's expanding slate of original programming explores the moviemaking process from script to screen. From behind-the-scenes magic on Making a Scene to creating the perfect cast on Casting Session to interviews with Hollywood talent on Life After Film School to unique red carpet coverage on World Premiere, Fox Movie Channel's unprecedented access provides viewers with a whole studio on one channel.

Fox Movie Channel is the only network presenting movies and original series for viewers who want to know everything about how Hollywood movies are made today. Exclusively airing 20th Century Fox films ranging from contemporary blockbusters to great titles from the studio's legendary library, movies are shown uncut, uninterrupted, commercial-free, and in their original theatrical form.

I'd say pretty inconclusive, actually, given that the 35th-anniversary
