Hi Mark, I think you may have me confused with someone else as I have never written any articles on anything!

I was there at Spotlands though for the Rochdale Apes show but not any of the others.
I was living in Bury at the time and got our local newsagent to keep the poster for me that they had in their window advertising it and at the show I got a couple of 'autographed' photos but they're all long gone now sadly.

Message for neil foster who attended all the P.O.T.A shows in the U.K
in the mid seventies.
I read your artical in the simian times but there was no mention of the
show going to Rochdale at the football club which i attended
(spotlands) there is a mention of 3500 fans mobbing at the supermarket.
Could you or anyone help in the obtaining of memrobelia from this event.
My story is when i was about 12/13 i saw a poster advertising the show
to be at Rochdale .
I went out and got myself a sunday paper round for two months to get
the money together to be able to go and watch the show.
My biggest memory was me being a young boy and a gorilla soldier coming
up in the crowd right next to me and the boy i went with scared and
crying , but me loving every minute of it.
Can you or anyone help

.

No, he kept up appearances, but one weekend when I was pre-warned by a security company they might be about to raid my house (because they suspected my partner was trading X-Rated DVDs he was duplicating for smack) he couldn’t even clean up his shit.

Long story, from 1988, so really a long time ago in a galaxy far away…..

    Yep you did:

Don't know who won it though.
I do have a handbill/flyer for one of the live shows but it wasn't for the one I went to. A scan of it should still be in the files section somewhere I think.

Here's my wiki page on 'The Surgeon', there's pictures of David
Naughton as 'Doctor Stole', both of Ron Stein's characters and Eldon
Burke, if you follow the links:

    http://planetofthea pes.wikia. com/wiki/ The_Surgeon

And you're right Mike, imdb isn't perfect - Ron and Eldon for example
appeared in at least 12 and 10 episodes respectively but are only
    credited with 10 and 5.

      Yep you did:

Don't know who won it though.

I do have a handbill/flyer for one of the live shows but it wasn't for the one I went to. A scan of it should still be in the files section somewhere I think.

No. It's run by a guy called Brian Kurtz (who's name sounds familiar
but I'm not sure from where). But i'v contributed most of the TV
series episode/character/actor pages, and I'm working my way through
characters from all the comics at the moment. I'm good at setting up
pages and providing pictures, not so good at actually writing
articles to go on the pages!

It's my understanding that for Zira Chambers had to create a special
technique to make the appliances.  I never found out what it was, but
way back before Apemania was a going concern I thought I'd corner
the market and bought a bunch of seconds.  The Zira was, as you say,
butter soft.  So soft in fact it probably would have fallen apart if handled.
So it was cast over some kind of material.  Hard to describe.  Sort of like
you'd make pantyhose or tights out of.  Anyone know anything about this
      "Special Process"?

Yeah that’s right I recall the interview now – one of Kass’s friends set it up for me.

*** Whitty, the Ron Harper interview is in SIMIAN SCROLLS # 8... I glanced at the interview again but I didn't see anything about him mentioning that he had recently seen Eldon Burke, so I don't know where I got that from... You're mentioned in the credits though. Weird. ***

There are a few more weeks until Wondercon.  Maybe another ape or two may show up.  I hope so, for my sake.  I've never been made up as an ape before, or had appliances glued onto my face.  I just wonder how it is to be fully made up as an ape and only have your eyeballs uncovered.  Freaky I think.

Tributes to Heston, Rosenman and Hagen (The worst part about Scrolls
is that you can practically count on a tribute to a recently passed
      away player in each issue).

John Chambers career, Interviews with Maurice Stein & Rob Burman. An
in-depth look at un-produced comic strips and a few other surprises.

Hope all that order, enjoy it!

Hope all that order, enjoy it!

        in the mid seventies.
I read your artical in the simian times but there was no mention of the
show going to Rochdale at the football club which i attended
(spotlands) there is a mention of 3500 fans mobbing at the supermarket.
Could you or anyone help in the obtaining of memrobelia from this event.
My story is when i was about 12/13 i saw a poster advertising the show
        to be at Rochdale.
I went out and got myself a sunday paper round for two months to get
the money together to be able to go and watch the show.
My biggest memory was me being a young boy and a gorilla soldier coming
up in the crowd right next to me and the boy i went with scared and
crying , but me loving every minute of it.

Thanks for sharing that Neil. Just so I'm clear - the newspaper
clipping with the picture of the apes on the tube was from the same
production as this flyer, was it? I just ask because that showed 'an
astronaut' that doesn't get a mention in the flyer, and also because,
as Whitty said, those were trained stage actors whereas the show you
saw was a circus/stunt type of show. Was there acting aswell, do you
        (or Mark) recall?

        Thanks,
        Neil M

If your interested the show that i saw at Rochdale football ground in the seventies was to my memory a show where the humans where being chased around the football ground, sometimes on horseback, there was a few scrap cars and stunt cars at one stage.
The acting wasn't brilliant because they had mic's on and the script was a little basic
But the show was still a great day out they did inter-act with the crowd, i'm sorry but i was a kid and i worked on Sunday doing a paper round for the show and to buy the weekly marvel comic, i even made my own gorilla outfit has did half a dozen friends.
We played planet of the apes most days but the one thing i wanted when i was young but was always to expensive for me but i used to walk past the shop every day and check them out was the gorilla and urko latex masks!!!
I had to wait many years before getting my hands on a screen worn background gorilla outfit from beneath the planet of the apes.
Hope the top part of this helps

        Hi Mark

I have heard of a “Mall Show” in Australia at around the same time where actors did their bit on a stage inside shopping malls.

This has never been confirmed, but it makes sense and if the show was an elaborate OUTDOORS event I am almost positive the same show would be available for shopping mall shows.

I checked my favourite site, isohunt, for months to see if someone would crack the Blu-Ray Unrated Conquest and make it available.

        At last – someone has.

        Here’s the download:

        http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/59395265/conquest+apes?tab=summary

It’s a whopping 4GB so it’s not for the faint hearted.

But if you know someone who has a huge amount of download capacity, and who knows how to download bit-torrents, then please get this because the quality should be around that of the BluRay, but playable on WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER (and people like myself and play from a media player to a DVD recorder and copy them).

As I have said before, I already have UNRATED CONQUEST here for anyone who wants it (copied from the US cable showings) and this includes all the specials (with many thanks to A Nonymous!) but if you want a better picture quality, close to what you would but on DVD yourself if it’s released in that format, then the download is the go.

Yeah that's pretty much how I recall the show Mark, lots of running away from horses, astronauts being captured and then escaping etc. I do remember that I loved every second of it though!

So I take it you lived in the Rochdale area back then? I was living in Bury back then and visited Rochdale quite often. You never know we may have run across each other at one time or another!

So, I took a trip up to Los Angeles and decided to go into Hollywood.  I was looking at a new Make Up case at some luggage store and was undecided whether to buy it or not.  As I walked out, I looked down at the ground and saw one of the Walk of Fame stars...  "Roddy Mc Dowall".  I decided that was a sign to buy my new make up case.

In the USA they had the Bill Blake & Paula Crist show where they appeared as Cornelius and Zira, and I think they may have also had some sort of circus/rodeo Apes show for a little while as well though I could be wrong? I 'm sure I have seen a poster for such a show on eBay, I may have a picture of it somewhere I'll have a look and see if I can find it if I have.

Yes Mark it does, thanks. There's almost nothing to go on, other than
          your's and Neil's memories.
Just for the record, there's a John Mundy (name from the newspaper
clipping) who's a local TV newsreader/voiceover artist in Manchester,
but...this is not the John Mundy we're looking for. That's
unfortunate, he was my best lead because he's the right age and
trained as an actor in his youth.

Yeah, Anthony said a while back that he'd seen a POTA circus show in
New Orleans. Presumably not the same people as in the UK.

So, I took a trip up to Los Angeles and decided to go into Hollywood .  I was looking at a new Make Up case at some luggage store and was undecided whether to buy it or not.  As I walked out, I looked down at the ground and saw one of the Walk of Fame stars...  "Roddy Mc Dowall".  I decided that was a sign to buy my new make up case.

If I recall rightly (though my memory is going a bit these days!) it was during the summer so it would have been off season and they would have had plenty of time to fix up the ground anyway. Then again Rochdale were in the 3rd or 4th division so a stuffed up ground wouldn't have made much difference to the way they played (I remember how bad they were when I saw them play a couple of times on a semi decent surface!) ;-)

I wonder if anyone out there has footage of any of the live shows be it the proper or rodeo style , thinking about it camcorders / super eight or whatever format where quite expensive back then in the seventies.
But has a few have said there must be some out there in a loft or garage somewhere????

So, I took a trip up to Los Angeles and decided to go into Hollywood .  I was looking at a new Make Up case at some luggage store and was undecided whether to buy it or not.  As I walked out, I looked down at the ground and saw one of the Walk of Fame stars...  "Roddy Mc Dowall".  I decided that was a sign to buy my new make up case.

Yeah that’s what I think Mike.

I had that Japanese Box Set and there’s no blooper reel – just the exclusive Bill Creber interview that I forwarded a copy of to Hunter, and Hunter kindly added to the rarities disc.

You would hope so wouldn't you. It was so popular and hyped up back then I would have thought that some news story or something would have been done at the time.
We can only hope, stranger things have turned up that we never though existed, like that TV show 'bible', or was that one of those things that turned out to be fake after all?

I really don't get how anyone can say ANYTHING yet!

Scott Frank has NO IDEA what he's going to do yet!

And we already have people saying things like "it's gonna be SO
          different to what we know".

Not only that, but FOX might completely change Mr Frank's script.

There's a LONNNNNGGGGGG way to go!

Yes I agree, but I can't see them being given the budget for it in
          Hollywood Mike.

The Japanese REALLY think about things and throw money at things too
but I am still happier with the BR set than I was before it!

But yeah maybe we as fans should stop trying to build bigger castles
than the other POTA fan and try to pool our resources and find people
like POST and CREBER and ask them ourselves.

And why doesn't Risso make the TED POST stuff available to fans?

Hell, nobody's gonna pay him for it are they?

          Bullshit Mike.

It took little old me to be the first person on the planet to put it
straight that he's writing - not directing! But if you read what's
being written they are still saying he's directing. BULLSHIT!

Trust me - I'd believe what Scott Frank's PA says over the world
press and trust me the only thing that's true is he's not sure how
he's going to handle this story but he's thinking the main character
will be a real baby chimp and may use sign language...but this is
likely a BACK STORY. So stop speculating, I'll be talking to Mr.
Frank very soon and (no thanks to anyone else here in the group whom
I've asked for questions) I have a good idea what I'll be asking him.

Sure, the interviewee may have a small fee they want, but in the grand scheme of things, they're virtually "free" compared to most anything else... It's a true type font.

It works but there's no option for lower case.

DG member, Anthony Mcleeven (spelling?) created a much better one a
          couple of years back.
