Yeah I agree – as long as it gets made because we’ll at least get a flood of new POTA stuff for classic apes no matter what the new movie is like!  J

Would we want to see a “PLANET” with the desert scenes and any others spliced in?

Same with BENEATH and ESCAPE?

Personally I would, as long as I had the choice to view the original too.

I must admit you will always get people jumping the gun or putting a film down before its aired, but the same could be said of the last planet of the apes film , plenty didn't like it, but i must admit i did , the reasons i liked it was plenty of action but i didn't compare it to the originals.
The make up was much improved with the exception of eye brow's on bowen carter?????
The costumes where fantastic and i would love to bag myself a rick baker gorilla mask and gorilla costume.
Storyline was a little  questionable , but i did find it entertaining for what it was.
Even the background apes in this film where pretty good not like in beneath planet the background apes where quite poor .
However when i first saw that film when i was young i thought it was the best film of all, the best part being when the army left ape city.
When your a major fan and your favourite was the gorillas and they are preparing for war, well sitting in the cinema i nearly wet my pants with excitement.
Which if the new film has brought new fans to planet of the apes saga then it has at least kept the whole franchise alive and kicking, so my answer to the new film is BRING IT ON !!!!!!!!

I agree that there is a lot of talk about how, when, where, if and could this film be made and what is the storyline.
Just one question?
Are they making a remake or a new storyline
Or should i ask is it going to follow on to Tim Burtons ending
Maybe Will there be guest appearances from previous actors in this film
What's the budget
Sorry started to get caught up in all the hype
No not really just joking
But the only question most would be interested in is are they going to bring it back towards the original storylines or not?
All the best

Yes your right i forgot about the mutants ( god when they took there masks off it scared the shit out of me )
I wonder if that's the effect young kids today would have after seing it for the first time.
My boys are 14 and 11 , my oldest isn't that bothered about it football for him, but my youngest loves it.
I just wish i could find and afford to by him a gorilla outfit that looks proper ( not the ones that where on offer with a flat mask and planet of the apes wrote across the chest ????)
Getting back to the film and when Ursus said ( the only good human is a dead human ! ) fantastic that sent chills down my spine .
I was just a shame the budget was slashed in half because if you look close the extras masks where poor they must have gone around the corner to a fancy dress / costume hire shop for those masks ( only joking)

What about what was mentioned last week - to get whatever survivors
are still around to record a commentary track. It's something that
could be hosted online to be played alongside the movies (BBC do
something like that for new episodes of Doctor Who), and in years to
come Fox might be very grateful someone recorded them so they could
be included in a future official release. The only problem I see is
the need to have a group of people sparking off each other for a good
commentary track - how would we record them all together?

With the original cut available in every format so far, would you
need both versions on anopther release though? How about
a 'collectors edition' or something, with just the extended versions
of all the movies.

Yeah my first exposure was Marvel Magazine #8 which was BENEATH and was when the masks came off.

I begged my dad for the $1 it cost (Richie Rich and Casper were 20c at the time so it was a HUGE difference).

I must have read the CONQUEST comic before I saw the movie too because I recall getting goose-bumps when I read Caesar’s speech.  I read it out aloud to my girlfriend, sitting in my mother’s car.  She was not at all impressed!  J

We’d just have to plan it, then invite the appropriate people to a screening, “microphoned” up.

Maybe Bill Holloweg could help out by providing his studio as a facility.

I’m sure we could possibly even let FOX know what we are planning so we wouldn’t upset anyone.

Back to the lists of survivors people!

The great thing about BR is you can easily fit both, plus plenty more, on one disc.

While I’d love to see al the deleted scenes, I’d so prefer to see them all in place.

Actually, with BR there is the technology to select the extended version and it just pops the extra bits in.

It’s not a director’s cut though – so would they do this?

Have they added deleted scenes to films without it being a Director’s Cut?

With the original cut available in every format so far, would you
need both versions on anopther release though? How about
a 'collectors edition' or something, with just the extended versions
of all the movies.

How about what’s been done to Star Trek The Original Series?

All the special effects re-done, available in HD with re-worked sound.

I haven’t seen it yet but it does sound awesome!

Maybe a new SFX enhanced POTA would be better than a new script?

Maybe it would be a good idea to come up with a list of questions and then get anyone who can contact any actors and get them to video with modern camcorders , because once converted to computer they can be cleaned up.
The best way of doing the questions would be interviewer eventually being voiced over for continuity with a well known face ( even one that appeared in a show ) maybe even the 2001 remake?????
What do you think?
It will need someone to collect all the data and coordinate , but need volunteers to find and interview the stars.
And who knows Fox or a T.V channel may be interested in taking up the option of airing it.

Actually, Bill Holloweg could be very helpful to a project like that.
I was thinking more about the logistics of getting these people
together at the same time - maybe if a few of them were attending a
convention, or via some kind of conference-call, but I'm not sure
that would work.

I think the first goal would be to place the participants in a room together so thye can actually discuss things – like “oh – remember on the first take my pants fell down?”  J

Neil,

My approach would be a serious fundraising/sponsorship venture if it could be coordinated and flying the participants to a location then home again.

First step would be to locate the participants and see if they would be interested.  Then look at who we have and where they are/try to get a central venue.

Then ask participants if they could get themselves there and fund raise/seek funding (starting with FOX) for those who could not.

Actually, Bill Holloweg could be very helpful to a project like that.
I was thinking more about the logistics of getting these people
together at the same time - maybe if a few of them were attending a
convention, or via some kind of conference-call, but I'm not sure
that would work.

City Kid: A Writer's Memoir of Ghetto Life and Post-Soul Success
Nelson George. Viking, $25.95 (248p) ISBN 978-0-670-02036-2

In his vivid and charming memoir, novelist and screenwriter George
(Hip Hop America) recounts incidents from an eventful life that has
ranged from a tough upbringing by his single mother in Brooklyn in
the 1960s to a career of assorted writing gigs in music journalism,
television and film. Early in the book, George captures the anxieties
of an intelligent child in a dangerous neighborhood, finding solace
in his mother's soul records, screenings of Planet of the Apes and
Hemingway and Fitzgerald novels. Later, George provides a welcome and
appropriately nerve-wracking portrait of a young New York writer,
interning at the Amsterdam News and writing concert reviews for
Billboard. Slowly, the mature writer and tastemaker emerges,
witnessing and shepherding hip-hop's sometimes rocky transition into
the mainstream pop-music world, as exemplified by a bizarre concert
bill featuring the Commodores, Bob Marley and hip-hop pioneer Kurtis
Blow. George's life has been blessed by the presences of an eclectic
array of black entertainers, including a young Russell Simmons and a
struggling Chris Rock, and he sketches these characters with
affection, though at times the book feels more like a collection of
anecdotes than a cohesive narrative. Nonetheless, George provides
tempting glimpses of the vibrant New York of the recent past. (Apr.)

LOST in Space star Bob May, who played The Robot in the cult 60s TV
show, has died of congestive heart failure at the age of 69.

May died overnight at hospital in California, his daughter Deoborah
May told Associated Press.

The actor and stuntman worked on stage and screen for decades but was
best known for The Robot, a role he claimed to have won by accident.

"He always said he got the job because he fit in the robot suit,''
said June Lockhart, who played Maureen Robinson.

"It was one of those wonderful Hollywood stories. He just happened to
be on the studio lot when someone saw him and sent him to see (series
creator) Irwin Allen about the part.

"Allen said, 'If you can fit in the suit you've got the job.'"

On the show The Robot always warned the Robinson family of
approaching danger, and its catchphrase "Danger, Will Robinson" is
still famous today.

However May didn't provide The Robot's voice, which belonged to Dick
Tufeld.

In November last year May and his wife lost their home in a bushfire
in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, Associated Press reports.

Hey Neil,

The two images come courtesy of Mark T. Butler. He wanted to see them
shared so I see no problems with you using them for your web-page.

I was actually holding them back in the hope I might be able to use
them in an article on the shows. Unfortunately every line of inquiry
met with a dead end, so, said article has been abandoned.

At the time, all I knew of the shows was what I learned from the UK
fan club newsletters (available to download from Hunter's site. The
letters page of the UK marvel comic and much more recently, Rich Cross
contributed an article which can be found in SS4 (also available from
Hunter).

Oh yes! I do remember going although as I've said before I have no recollection of seeing Burt "Robin" Ward who was supposedly there the same time!

Are you going to share some of our latest comic venture?

How’s the colouring coming along?

Maybe we should show the original script on the B&W page then the final script and colour version?

Thanks a lot for these Dave. Do you have any background on these
pictures? If I get around to putting together a web page on this Apes
show, would you object if I used your pictures? And the same question
to you too Neil?

Thanks Dave. I re-read that excellent article by Rich Cross, I didn't
realize it had so much detail, that answers a lot of my questions - a
stage play, arena shows and in-person appearances, all co-ordinated
by one company, not just random uses of the POTA name by different
circus acts. That gives me a lot of info to go on.

We've changed quite a bit of the dialog and even changed some of the art plus added extra art and also removed stuff and moved pages around so the finished comic will be quite different from what we had previously shown to the group.
I'll upload the original B&W first page along with the revised coloured one to give a bit of an example of how it's coming along.

I've got 7 and a half pages out of the 17 coloured so far so there's still a bit of a wait until we can show the whole finished version.

It's a true type font.

It works but there's no option for lower case.

See how the muzzle curves in towards the mouth?
The males don't really have that trait.  Females
also have more of the skin of their faces exposed.

I will keep trying until I get her right. You are right. I need to
rework her muzzle. I wish I could get better photos. I have been
pausing the DVD but it's not the same as working off of something I
have printed. Something gets lots in the translation from the tv to
      my brain to my hands.

      Hi Jessica.

      You can't acquire these YET.

Neil and I are still discussing how we will initially distribute
BEGINS (AND YES, THE TITLE MIGHT CHANGE!).

The first comic we did (under completely different circumstances,
BEWARE THE BEAST - written by Dave Ballard) was intended as a tool
for uniting all the POTA elements (web groups, web sites, fanzines)
but that backfired when the finale was not permitted to be mentioned
on a particular group (aure, reasons were given but the bigger picure
was not seen and the greater good was not served). This soured things
for some time. However, I still have a visiion of all POTAdom living
together happily in peace so I am hoping for a similar thing (but
it's all or nothing because I don't want it to be a tool for
      favouring one element over another).

Ultimately, I am hoping this comic will be published and for sale at
      your local news stand/newsagent/comic store.

This is why I am taking it very seriously and have almost completely
      rewritten the script based on:

      (1) feedback from a select group of fans here on the group; and

      (2) feedback from Ty Templeton which is just BLOWING ME AWAY!

Excuse me for name dropping :) but I am SO buzzed that by comic book
hero is even bothered with the "little people". Ty's input has been
fantastic and I now have a product I am confident will be published
      one day.

Ty - you know you rock right? :)

      Michael

I don't recall ever hearing ablout Zira's appliances being different.  Usually you add material (i.e. nylon) to reinforce masks or theatrical appliances.  On film, you use new appliances every day, no need to strengthen the foam.  Her pieces may have been foamed up softer, making them more delicate, but adding anything to them stiffens it, thus defeating the purpose of softer foam.

It's my understanding that for Zira Chambers had to create a special
technique to make the appliances.  I never found out what it was, but
way back before Apemania was a going concern I thought I'd corner
the market and bought a bunch of seconds.  The Zira was, as you say,
butter soft.  So soft in fact it probably would have fallen apart if handled.
So it was cast over some kind of material.  Hard to describe.  Sort of like
you'd make pantyhose or tights out of.  Anyone know anything about this
      "Special Process"?

Jessica, that sculpture is really nice. I knew that you were quite a
costume-maker but I had no idea that you could sculpt!

I've got my work cut out for me!

Are you going to share some of our latest comic venture?

      How’s the colouring coming along?

Maybe we should show the original script on the B&W page then the final script and colour version?

If you want to get screen captures (literally whatever is on your
screen as a picture file) press 'ctrl' and 'print screen' together (on
my keyboard 'print screen' is at the top, just after 'f12'), then open
an image program, such as microsoft paint, click 'edit' and 'paste',
then you can save it as a picture format.
That doesn't always work for me from a movie being played on the
computer though, the better option is if you can use a media player
that has a 'screen capture' or 'screen grab' option.

It really looks great with colour. Am I right that this is the first

Neil, I know Neil F will answer but don’t let that stop me from getting my 20 cents in first!  J

Did you know Dave Ballard did some great colouring for select pages of BTB as well?

My recollection of it is that the whole thing was just WAY too time consuming.

However, Neil and I are so stoked with the first 17 pages of begins (there is a 5-6 page “BACK-STORY” yet to be done to complete the first issue) and the overall plan we have for the story, that we are making this comic as good as we possibly can and throwing a heap of extra time and resourced into it.

Personally, I’d love to see BTB entirely coloured too.

Frankly, I am guessing Neil’s hoping if he’s doing the job he’s getting paid a lot more than what I’m paying him!  J

      Michael

I'm glad what i suggested was of some help, the suggestions you made on how to collect stills was most informative.
But for those who cant do these things the easy thing you can do is just freeze pause the picture, however like most things i would think there would be a time limit on that.

Yep first time I've committed to colouring a whole story and it is because of the work involved plus the sheer amount of time it takes me to do a page, seems to take forever. It's way less messy than me trying to use real paints though and so much easier to correct mistakes!

It really looks great with colour. Am I right that this is the first
time you've done a colour POTA comic Neil? I know there were
some 'Beware' test pages done. Is that because there's so much more
work involved or do you prefer working with black and white?

Most of the Beware The Beast coloured pages were done by Dave Ballard, I only had a go at one. They should be in the files section somewhere, if not I can upload them.
