No, Greene's facts on the films are NOT like those, when he's actually writing facts they're legit... It's clear there was a lot of Ricardo in Armando --
whether it was his stoic demeanor trying to give
a poised performace while enduring the pain of
his riding accident, or struggeling to break free
from the "ethnic" roles given to him and his fellow
Hispanic actors.  He brought a lot of class to work.

Why does no one interview Jerry Marin?
He and his wife were dancing up a storm
at the film festival.  Or do they only interview
him about the Lollipop Guild?  What the hell?

Yeah, one company did the extras, but it was a last minute decision to do these blu-rays and they were up against the wall. Plus they are a new company so they didn't have a lot of bargaining room with Fox. They went to New York to talk to Russo and the Mego people and whoever, they interviewed in Hollywood, they traveled to Apemania, traveled to film Mort Abrahams.
Russo offered them his audio interviews and stuff from researching his book. They could have had some kick ass commentary tracks but they weren't contracted to do the audio tracks.
It's great that they did something with the blu-rays instead of just releasing the films. But they could've done so much more. Knowing Fox I wouldn't be surprised if they use more of this stuff later in future editions (especially if the new Ape movies become successful). They've also got a lot of unused stuff from "Behind". Always keep them wanting more.

*** That's exactly what I'm saying... Knowing what should have been and knowing what is actually on the set as extras is pretty irritating... They threw the extras together with no real thought as to their content, they just wanted to say "Look we went all out and gave you new extras that will look pretty on your HDTV." That's probably the real reason they did them too, to give them some slick new appearance to go with the new format. ***

My Apes site is back online, after being down for 6 days. For those
who understand and/or care, the host system was relocated to a new
datacenter (in Virginia instead of California), and my testing has
shown that downloads are many times faster than they used to be.

Actually you are very wrong Mike.

It would make FAR more sense to me if they asked Sauseville questions about collectibles.

To someone coming into a project with limited knowledge you would SURELY look for someone who had published a book about something before dragging someone off the streets.

But they didn’t even ask Tim – who provided the materials!  They asked Brian Peck (who I am sure is the guy who used to sell Black and White T Shirts on eBay..)!

Now I’m not saying Sauseville WOULD have done a good job.  And what I said about Eric is correct = like it or not, he’ll continue to be called in for these POTA interviews because he’s been published.

No need for your trying to twist that to me saying it’s a good OR bad thing.  I’m saying that’s how it is.

    And it is!

Yeah, one company did the extras, but it was a last minute decision to do these blu-rays and they were up against the wall. Plus they are a new company so they didn't have a lot of bargaining room with Fox. They went to New York to talk to Russo and the Mego people and whoever, they interviewed in Hollywood , they traveled to Apemania, traveled to film Mort Abrahams.

    I wouldn’t be surprised.

As with ALIEN for DVDs, the POTA Blu-Ray set is inspiring people to switch to BR.

This set has really had the impact that ape fans wanting more POTA stuff should embrace.

There’s lots more people discovering and buying classic apes and FOX actually announced (vs fans getting whispers about) a new movie.

I just don’t get all the negativity!

And speaking of Russo offering the holy grail – how about FOX actually FINDING unrated CONQUEST, and RESTORING it to HD!  That’s not an easy or cheap thing to do.

THANKS FOX – SOMEONE LOVES AND APPRECIATES YOU!

Actually I'm not sure when he played Zauis. The Zauis at the Chambers tribute wasn't Peck and the one I saw recently wasn't. He played him at the E2 video game con. I remember he had a Pee Wee Herman doll as a prop because Burton was going to do POTA. I guess the Zauises switch off depending who's available

To someone coming into a project with limited knowledge you would SURELY look for someone who had published a book about something before dragging someone off the streets.

But they didn't even ask Tim – who provided the materials!  They asked Brian Peck (who I am sure is the guy who used to sell Black and White T Shirts on eBay..)!

Now I'm not saying Sauseville WOULD have done a good job.  And what I said about Eric is correct = like it or not, he'll continue to be called in for these POTA interviews because he's been published.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Brian WAS Dr Zaius for a short time then he was Julius.  he doesn't do the reenactments now.  Dr Zaius is Laird McIntosh, I think.

No, I don't think Peck was a member of these groups. I knew him back in the day. He's pals with the POTA2001 producer and was an ape extra on that too. And an extra in "X-Men" (he's eating a hot dog next to Stan Lee when Bruce Davidson washes up on shore).

Brian Peck is the Dr. Zauis for "Apemania". He's an actor so he has the 'in" for stuff. He also voiced Zauis for the video game. He also did the commentary track for the "X-Men" DVD with director Bryan Singer, I guess because they're pals. So he gets around.

Actually you are very wrong Mike.

It would make FAR more sense to me if they asked Sauseville questions about collectibles.

To someone coming into a project with limited knowledge you would SURELY look for someone who had published a book about something before dragging someone off the streets.

But they didnÂ’t even ask Tim – who provided the materials!  They asked Brian Peck (who I am sure is the guy who used to sell Black and White T Shirts on eBay..)!

Now IÂ’m not saying Sauseville WOULD have done a good job.  And what I said about Eric is correct = like it or not, heÂ’ll continue to be called in for these POTA interviews because heÂ’s been published.

No need for your trying to twist that to me saying itÂ’s a good OR bad thing.  IÂ’m saying thatÂ’s how it is.

    And it is!

Just off the top of my head who's gone since "Behind": Heston, Roddy, Kim, J. Lee, Don Taylor, Frank Capra Jr., John Chambers, Ricardo.

Still kicking: Natalie, Linda, Mort, Zanuck, Ted Post, Eric Greene... is that everybody?  About half are gone.

Is Mort Abrahams in any of the blu-ray stuff? I guess he'd have to be in the "Beneath" section, since he wasn't in the one for "Planet" (even though they dealt with the development). They went to his house to film him because he's in poor health.

Still, it's over half who are gone. And about half of that checked out soon after: Roddy, Kim, Don Taylor, John Chambers. So that was destiny. I say DESTINY!

Being the fan of Mike Ploog that I am, I just received my copy of Modern Masters (volume 19) featuring Mike Ploog. Great interview with the man which does touch on his Planet of the Apes work and includes plenty of artwork including one of the Terror pencil pages without the text etc.
The Special Thanks section names a Dave Ballard and a John Roche! Now I'm sure I've heard those names somewhere else before... ;-)

Hello fellow apes.  I have been very busy trying to get together my own 1/1 scale costume for the upcoming Wondercon 2009.  It was through this group that I collided quite by accident into my neighbor, Dan Morgan.  (Hi Dan!!)  I had been traversing the internet looking for ape-related photos and came across a post of him in full ape regalia, the likes of which I had never seen before.  Never in my wildest moments would I dream that I would ever have the chance of a lifetime to actually undergo a lifemold process and have appliances specifically made for my face.  Blessed with trigger fingers and lots of nervous energy, I asked Dan out of the blue if he would ever consider making me a set of Zira appliances.  After a few quick e-mails, we set a date to meet over some coffee at a local Starbucks.

Dan was kind enough to bring one chimp shoe made by Bill Blake and an unpainted Cornelius foam latex appliance that he had baked (OMG--so BUTTER SOFT!!!) to our coffee date.  It was quite invaluable to peek into the shoes.  Seeing it firsthand, I was able to retain the overall premise of the design and keep that in my mind as I had planned to MacGuyver my own set of chimp boots.

Here are photos my costume that I tailored myself:
    Boots: http://s302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/?action=view&current=Zira004-1.jpg

This is me in the Apemania Zira mask (still unpainted).  Tom Rubalcava was kind enough to help in me in quest to up my ape dreams a notch by making me my own set from a lifemold of my face.

I was there at Spotlands though for the Rochdale Apes show but not any of the others.
I was living in Bury at the time and got our local newsagent  to keep the poster for me that they had in their window advertising it and at the show I got a couple of 'autographed' photos but they're all long gone now sadly.

Here's my wiki page on 'The Surgeon', there's pictures of David
Naughton as 'Doctor Stole', both of Ron Stein's characters and Eldon
Burke, if you follow the links:

    http://planetoftheapes.wikia.com/wiki/The_Surgeon

And you're right Mike, imdb isn't perfect - Ron and Eldon for example
appeared in at least 12 and 10 episodes respectively but are only
    credited with 10 and 5.

    Thanks Hunter.

I wonder if it’s time to set aside politics and let all POTA groups know the important stuff (which, personally, I think this IS) at the same time?

Hunter, maybe you should announce it as you do with the new stuff on your site?

I mean how silly can things get and for how long?

Not sure at this point if he will be available.  He will try but he may be too busy to commit.  Hopefully there will be other apes there.  I haven't heard from anybody for sure though if they will go ape with me so I may be the only ape in town.

    Hi Jessica,

And thanks SO much for sharing this with us.

As I explained to you privately, there are a good number of people on this group who choose not to join the POTA groups (well, the behaviour of certain individuals has actually FORCED the choice, so is it REALLY a choice?).

Therefore people who post exclusively elsewhere actually miss a pocket of fans.

    This is fascinating and brilliant.

By the way – when you say Dan is a neighbour, how far away does he live?

    Michael

    Boots: http://s302. photobucket. com/albums/ nn102/apecityout fitters/? action=view&current=Zira004- 1.jpg

This is me in the Apemania Zira mask (still unpainted).  Tom Rubalcava was kind enough to help in me in quest to up my ape dreams a notch by making me my own set from a lifemold of my face.
