.htmlI'd love to see more and hope that you guys do get it to a printer so
that we can get our hands on it. You planning on it being a comic with
just "Begins" or do you plan on having a 2 story comic? Would having a
simultaneous print run of Beware at the same time held with
costs/distribution? Bundling them together may help.
PS: Yes the colorization is awesome. B/W comics never bothered me much
(I know some people really don't like them). But even so, I was quite
surprised by how much better the same drawing look when color/shading
is added.
Nice job... BOTH of you.

panel changes a little further on, but did you make alterations to
the overall concept, or was it just to move the story more

Some comics have both colour and black and white story's in them.
This sometimes can be a good idea so when it comes to picking up a comic
you can tell where a story starts.
If your planning on doing a regular run you could possibly open it up to
include those budding artists to have a story of there's included in your
comic.
Some of the costs could be off-set with advertisements also ( Apemania /
Toy fairs / Comic stores ??? )
I hope you don't think that i am butting in just a few
suggestions , but if it gets of the ground put me down for a
copy .
Monthly / Weekly / Annually ????

I tried freezing the picture on my computer at home...kind of works...but the alt and printscreen buttons don't work for me. I need to invest in one of those screengrab softwares that will work with my
system.
I am re-doing Carsia. I'll keep working on her until I get her to look right. Jess.

But for those who cant do these things the easy thing you can do is just
freeze pause the picture, however like most things i would think there would be
a time limit on that.

Planning on BEGINS plus a 5-6 page back
story x 3 (or 6).
The back story explains a hell of a lot

I'd love to see more and hope that you guys do get it to a printer so
that we can get our hands on it. You planning on it being a comic with
just "Begins" or do you plan on having a 2 story comic?

Probably.
I do have a few copies of BTB Parts 1
& 2 here left over from the first (or second?) printing.
But I’m afraid I might not want to
pay $20 an issue to have BEGINS printed….we’ll see how flush I am
at the time! J

Would
having a simultaneous print run of Beware at the same time held with costs/distribution?
Bundling them together may help.

Same here.
I realized in BEGINS that with the B&W
pages I actually missed the clouds of dust coming out behind the
hovercraft! So the colouring really accentuated details I’d MISSED!

PS: Yes
the colorization is awesome. B/W comics never bothered me much
(I know some people really don't like them). But even so, I was quite
surprised by how much better the same drawing look when color/shading
is added.

Thanks Neil.
There’s actually another version of
the script that Neil didn’t upload where the text is essentially….NOTHING!
I found my words were not adding any value so I removed them! Neil told me
(and Ty later confirmed) that comics NEED words.
The original B&W pages have 2
different things going on that I was hoping would become obvious later.
(1)
“I have waited for you….for centuries….” Is
the Gorilla KRONOS observing the human KYLE and speaking the words from miles
away, uheard by Kyle. But BUGGERED if I could show this on paper!
(2)
A memory of Kyle’s where his mother gives him “if
anything ever happens to us” advice.
The group, and Ty, confirmed my suspicion
that I wasn’t getting this across so I have tried to do that in other
ways.
Also, the first few pages are (or at least
include) a nod to THE OMEGA MAN which I think you get a lot better in the new
script.
SO it’s (b) to move
the story more quickly/explain the situation more?

OK...well, the script changes ARE radical! I know
there are a few
panel changes a little further on, but did you make alterations to
the overall concept, or was it just to move the story more
quickly/explain the situation more?

Some comics have both colour and black
and white story's in them.
This sometimes can be a good idea so when
it comes to picking up a comic you can tell where a story starts.
If your planning on doing a regular run
you could possibly open it up to include those budding artists to have a story
of there's included in your comic.
Some of the costs could be off-set with
advertisements also ( Apemania / Toy fairs / Comic stores ??? )
I hope you don't think that i
am butting in just a few suggestions , but if it gets of the ground put me down
for a copy .
Monthly / Weekly / Annually ????

The thing is, when newcomers ask old questions, if they don't get

If they get answers they keep talking and eventuelly new things come

A while back I asked Hunter if we could do a FAQ section on his site

we could refer people to the "FAQ Frequently Asked Questions"

If you go back and have a look at the posts you respond to, you'll
find a VERY common theme (and the theme is certainly NOT new things
we've never spoken about).
We're all the same - certain things we like to discuss, other things
we don't.
Jessica was under the impression that the POTA group and the POTADG
have all the same members so she was just posting on one group! I
explained that's not the case (I mean Jeez there's 800 members over
there for starters!).
I think the main attitude is to speak to anyone about anything - we
all start SOMEWHERE before we learn how flawed our dear POTA is! :)

* 3955 vs. 3978--what gives?
* Changing vs. circular timeline?
* Is there another film coming out / will it be connected to the
original film or the Burton film or neither/both?
* Ending to the Burton film--WTF?
* How could Milo have gotten Taylor's ship in orbit?
* What's the name of Taylor's ship--Icarus, Air Force One, Immigrant
One or Liberty 1?
* Why wasn't Charlton Heston in most of the second film?
* Why wasn't Roddy MacDowall in the second film?
* Why wasn't Breck in the fifth film?
* Does the fifth film take place in 2001, 2018, 2020 or some other year?
* If it's in 2001, what the heck did Mandemus mean by "27 years?"
* What other POTA stories are there besides the films and TV show?
* Were the people who made the cartoon series on crack, or what?
* Why would Taylor think he was on another planet if the apes spoke
English?
* Why would the apes think humans to be dumb brutes if they wore clothing?
* Was Mark Wahlberg asleep while filming the remake?
* What are some of the better POTA-related Web sites?
* What are some of the better POTA-related fanfics / fan magazines?
* Who piloted the mothership if Taylor, Maddox and Virdon were flying
the three shuttles? (Rick ducks.)

.htmlT is a moderator, not an owner. When I returned to the group a few
months back I was intending to be a lurker but I am an owner again
now.
I'm glad I stepped away for a while because I was really starting to
hate owning a group, even started hating POTA. I'm back to enjoying
it now.
Hilly's a moderator too.
Being a moderator can mean all sorts of things but here at the DG
it's no massive responsibility these days. T and G are not expected
to generate posts or anything, just to approve a few here or there...
T isn'r reprimanded because he spends more time on the POTA group
posting :) Nor do we expect him to encourage people to post here.
Neil still carries the bulk of the load and I worry about things like
when nobody's posting. That's only because I care. I do believe
POTA fans need a place they can ask the silliest questions - without
some "know-it-all" like Rory making them feel stupid, and POTA fans
need a place where they CAN discuss POTA....without being kicked off
the group because someone has a grudge against them.
That said - I am a bit of a hypocrite too because I booted that silly
Mark Talbott Butter off the group a couple of months back - just
because I enjoyed doing it. I am a bit evil sometimes you know....

.htmlWell my approach would be to come up with a topic (time lines?)
that's been done to death.
Then look at all the various discussions on the group, on Patrick's
group and on the POTA group and assemble all possible points.
Then when it's mentioned, refer people to the FAQ section then maybe
they will still come back and comment but without us all getting
shitty and dizzy.
It will probably mean utimately 20 posts a month instead of hundreds,
so if we're playing "group wars" to have the most posts and get
ranked higher on the "BEST YAHOO GROUP" awards it's also group
suicide, but I like the idea...

I've still got the
banner I made up for the Faqs site we were going to do.

Well my approach would be to come up with a topic (time lines?) that's
been done to death.
Then look at all the various discussions on the
group, on Patrick's group and on the POTA group and assemble all possible
points.
Then when it's mentioned, refer people to the FAQ section then
maybe they will still come back and comment but without us all getting
shitty and dizzy.

.htmlI was thinking along those lines myself just the other day, but not
necessarily the need for a FAQ, but more along the lines of a database
or factual data repository. This came to mind when the question
regarding Marvel UK storylines came up. It's just
data/lists/facts/numbers that some people have captured or collated
over the years. They float around in snippets. Some people keep the
information in archived emails. Others set the data aside in their
computer. But this could all be maintained collectively in a simple
text file.
Over the years, I have retained as many images related to POTA that
come along here in the news groups, other sites, and even ebay
listings. I have tried to amass all those images in a semi-coherent
directory structure. (I sent a copy to you, Micheal a few years ago).
I did it mostly to document all the commercial POTA merchandise
created over the years (legal and knockoffs). But I also have movie
stills, videos, artwork, and all sorts of odds and ends. Days days a
lot of the stuff I see being brough up in the DG are items I've
already catalogued somewhere, so I know I've got a decent amount
already stored. I'm pretty sure that a lot of others do the same or
something similar based on postings.
Hunter's site is another great example of data. But again, as big as
it is, it is not all encompassing.
I was thinking that I just as easily record factual data, the Marvel
UK list being a great example. I don't think that that type of
information is as readily available. It would be a slow process, but
I'm going to try to collect this data from this point on, and see how
good a data file I can create as time goes on.
Let ya know in a few years.... :)

I don't claim to be an expert but most plant life doesn't like sea water ,
then they head inland no water just sand again sand no water , not much
will live in that , the nearer they get to water , Ho look plant life , and then
what's that i can hear water.
That's about how deep i went with that part of the film.

Yeah, I noticed that, too, for the first time when I watched the

the 15:30 mark, as Brent and Nova begin to ride off.

Good theory
Patrick, I can accept that happening.
Neil
Because some part of the ship BEHIND that aft bulkhead must have
detached from the once-airtight cockpit/cabin section. I'm thinking
EXPLOSIVE BOLTS going off to separate the cabin section from the aft
section, like when the Apollo rockets jettisoned their used-up
stages.
By the time the ship is about to sink below the surface, it is
only the cockpit/cabin section still there, the rest of the ship having
been jettisoned so that those further-back sections are already on
their way to the bottom of the lake and, hence, INVISIBLE to anybody
looking down at the about-to-sink remainder of the ship.

Fair enough. I
still don't understand the wisdom of having 3 males and 1 female if the idea was
to colonise the place, that doesn't make sense to me.
Neil
*** I just don't see "the Class of '72" being a Taylorism nickname for
the group of 4 astronauts (himself included). The term "the Class of"
suggests a SCHOOL of some sort, doesn't it? It seems to me that a
colonizing mission to a world 320 lightyears away would need the very
best of the best that the astronaut-training programs would have to
offer. NASA got its spacecraft pilots predominantly from the Air
Force. The reference to Landon as "the Golden Boy" of his class
suggests that he was recognized by the mission-planners as being the
Top Gun-type pilot then being trained in flight simulators at the
Academy. He was so good that the Higher-Ups nominated him for "the Big
One", the Orion Mission.
Yeah, NASA was also recruiting scientists for
the Apollo missions, not just pilots. I think of DODGE as one of these
types. He's the one who is the expert on running SOIL TESTS and all that,
right? When Taylor is haranguing Landon over their respective motivations
for volunteering for their mission, Dodge is off in the distance ahead of
them both, actively participating in the "expedition" ... exploring
their new world for signs of life -- which HE finds. Which the other
two guys might NOT have found, given their focus on arguing with each
other.
So, I would suggest that Dodge was one of those expert
scientist guys who was nominated for a spot on the mission specifically
because he was a motivated genius "who would walk naked into a live
volcano if he thought he could learn something no other man knew". Despite
the fact that he was an African American (!) he was nominated for the Big
One -- and also expected to participate in the breeding program that
this colonization mission was to attempt, since Stewart was to be "the
new Eve... with OUR hot-and-eager help" -- with the hot-and- eager help of
all three male astronauts.
Imagine! In the racially-divided times that
were the late-60s and early-70s, ANSA was willing to include a Black
man... not only as a science expert but also as a Breeder with a White
woman! "Race-Mixing on the Planet of the Apes"!
Taylor was the
Commander, the guy in charge. Dodge was the Science expert -- the "Mr.
Spock" of the bunch. Stewart was the "New Eve" for the colonization
breeding effort. And Landon was the top-notch Pilot who was supposed to
land the ship [note that it is Landon who reminds the other two surviving
astronauts that their ship was NOT programmed to land in the water,
etc etc]. Just the sort of information we would expect from the guy
slated to FLY the ship down from its orbital-approach flightpath
through RE-ENTRY.
That's my thought on this, anyway.

Speaking of '72
maybe you can help me with something that I noticed whilst watching Escape the
other weekend.
1972
is when Taylor and the rest left earth right? Then in Escape
it's noted that the spaceship that has turned up is one of 2 that have been
missing for over 2 years (Colonel Taylor's) which would mean that the year
would have to be at least 1974 probably even 1975 but Escape is meant
to be set in 1973 isn't it?

I am so jealous of you guys with BluRay players! I always thought that was a white rabbit. Is it confirmed, that it really is a piece of paper? I could swear on my DVD it
was a white rabbit. Please somebody confirm. I am so curious now.

If I've learned anything from reading comics in the last few years it is
that the writing is as important as the art. Only the two being
successful leads to a truly enjoyable comic. They compliment one
another, and if either of them falter, the end result fails. The art may
be more labour intensive, but the writer actually has two big roles to
play for the writer must not only create an interesting story to be
unfolded, but must also have the talent to not just put the words that
spell out the story together, they must do it with flowing prose, set
the tone, develop the characters, and so on. The art can advance some of
those notions, but a badly written story can detract what positive
aspects the have been achieved by good art.
Just my opinion though.

the FAQ section. It wouldn't be an opinion based on many, but a
summary of many opinons to save people finding and repeating their

It's also a resource and (as Rich so eloquently stated elsewhere in
cyberspace) a springboard for discussion. The idea is to have a
place for the stale old discussions, to refer newbies there (or even
cut an paste from it, or both!).
It's an idea to GENERATE discussion, not to inflate the group's posts
through repitition! ;)
And it's not lacking in the human touch - how is ANYTHING on Hunter's
site lacking the human touch (and SHAME on anyone for saying so!).
The key to these groups is the human touch. The trick to these
groups is WHERE, and HOW you touch your fellow humans (and what you
do it WITH)! eg when my BUTT (WHERE) is RAPED (HOW) with BARBED WIRE
(WITH) I tend to enjoy groups less...I'm only human.

There's a place in TASMANIA that does PURE MALT Whiskey, but it's not
the best.
Bourbon is my fave whiskey variety and the best is Wild Turkey and Jim
Beam. OH - and WOODFORD RESERVE wherever that's from - these are the
drinks that inspire the comic books by Foster and Whitty.
Aussies make great wine and beer - and LOVE! ;)
