Would that be the
same Jim Fitzpatrick who did those great Thin Lizzy LP
covers?
Neil
BTW, that Che image was made by a very talented Irish artist called Jim
Fitzpatrick after, unlikely as it seems, bumping into Che in a pub in
rural Ireland. On the upside, he just gave all future copyright proceeds
to a children's hospital in Cuba.

It’s strongly believed here that the

Yes, we also used a story line where Galen’s
mother became ill and this caused Galen to return to his home. Galen
denounces the astronauts to the general public and is absolved of his wrong
dongs.
I think Chris Lawless had some of these
ideas when he was on a team we gathered for writing the comics….however
there was so much “to”ing and “fro”ing that I can
hardly recall where things started and how thy progressed.
It’s a shame Chris can’t seem
to turn his thoughts into stories because he had some great ideas.

Michael and I had a plot sort of like that lined up
for future issues of the 'Going Home' comic story.
We had the 'missing presumed dead' Alan Virdon, in a coma,
being cared for in some high tech facility by a bunch of people in ANSA
astronaut suits. The leader was going to be revealed as Chris Virdon who had
followed his father into the space programme to try to find his dad and had
also ended up on the Planet of the Apes.
I even drew up a full page that has a sort of dream
sequence with Virdon thinking he was back on Earth with his wife and son, who
then ages before his eyes and Virdon suddenly wakes and we are introduced to
the adult Chris Virdon. We eventually scrapped that page, deciding it would
just confuse things so we were going to use it in a later issue of the
story.
I'll upload a copy of the unused page to the files
section. It has no text or anything, just the raw pencils.

Still working on hairing up the additional hair pieces I bought. I want to complete those this weekend so that I could have the next two weeks adding detail/paint to my

Just back from a visit to Neil where I read the
latest Simian Scrolls (40th Anniversary Edition).
I’m pleased to say that this is back to the
good old days of Scrolls where every page is a treat.
Well done to everyone involved.
One thing I was particularly excited about is the
article on Comics by Rich Handley (author of the new POTA Timeline book).
Being the first thing that exposed me to POTA I have
a particularly warm feeling about the monthly Curtis magazines and often I can
recall parts of my childhood (weddings, funerals, celebrations) and I know
precisely what issue I was reading at the time!
I recently asked if anyone has noticed some exciting
stuff on eBay. Well I’m referring to the comic pages that have been
offered for purchase.
There’s 3 more pages to add to the page Rich
refers to in the Scrolls article, attributed to Sonny Trinidad (but denied by
him as being his work) and also some deleted pages from
BATTLE where you can actually EASILY see
where they would slip in.
Neil – are you able to upload these pages to
the files?
The 3 additional pages really bring light to the one
page Rich originally sourced and who knows….maybe the rest are out there
somewhere?
It seems sure that the entire comic was at least
WRITTEN (by whom?) and at least these 4 pages (maybe more?) drawn.
This is an ongoing mystery but if there’s any
comics out there from the era I’d love to see them find the light of day.
Rich – with the 3 new pages having been found,
would you consider re-asking sonny about these?
Similarly, would you consider re-asking Mr Moench? I
reckon if we find a script we could con Foster into doing a Sonny style and
complete the comic….!
Uh oh, he’s just fainted again….

Apemania does a FINE job. Ursus doesn't look
quite right 'cuz Roy IS NOT James Gregory. They have a new helmet that
will help, but he'll never look the same unless he looks like James
Gregory. Brian's pieces are softer than the originals. Digital
cameras, better film, different lighting all play a part in making the make ups
look different. Give them the same film stock, lighting set ups, same
lenses and then you probably would change your mind on the "sponginess" of the
make ups.

One of these days, I'm going to recreate those Zaius glyphs on my leather gloves. I have all the parts. Just need the time. I'll post photos when I'm
done.
Also, did you know you could buy a pair of those from Apemania for $175? I don't know if they have raised the price. Last time I checked it was $175.

Acrylic based adhesives and silicone based
adhesives are easier on the skin than spirit gum and 355 medical adhesive.
He also airbrushes some of the make up, which lets the skin breathe a little
more than applying rubber mask grease. As for "Zira's" neck, Some
people have reactions to certain make up on sensitive areas. Maybe she
can't have anything on her neck!?!

Apemania does a FINE job.
Ursus doesn't look quite right 'cuz Roy IS NOT James Gregory. They have
a new helmet that will help, but he'll never look the same unless he looks
like James Gregory. Brian's pieces are softer than the originals.
Digital cameras, better film, different lighting all play a part in making the
make ups look different. Give them the same film stock, lighting set
ups, same lenses and then you probably would change your mind on the
"sponginess" of the make ups.

One thing that bothers me about Non Ape Freaks is
that anything remotely resembling POTA will trigger recognition. Lacey was
MY version of Zira, yet everyone that saw her said, "You look EXACTLY like

I’d love to Mike.
I actually forwarded an email to a few of
you here in the group from Ty Templeton recently.
For those who did not see it, Ty praised
Neil’s art and colour work and (would you believe?) my story as being
professional and he actually said he regrets not having an APES comic any more,
because he’d hire us if he did.
That’s awfully encouraging to me.
I do intend to throw many thousands of
dollars at an ape comic one day and I think it would need to kick off with
something like “BEGINS” which I am very proud of and I think it
would attract a reader base.
If this works (begins would be a 3 –
parter) I’d want a 3 part TV show conclusion next. I think this
would satisfy the UK
fans of old and expand the reader base.
Then, for sure, I’d love to fill in
the “missing years” of the TV Shows with comics that continue first
with unused scripts then some originals.
But all resources are currently being
thrown into BEGINS…and as long as Ty keeps making these inspirational comments,
we’ll keep going I think….Neil?

How about this for a page that was just
completely cut out of the Curtis Mag and – unlike some others – NOT
included in the UK

One of the THUMBS is p16 and I believe it
shows the conclusion of this story.
The other is an earlier page – the page
PRIOR to that which appears in Scrolls.
OK now, so where’s the rest of them?

PLANET OF THE APES (1968) Sat.-Mon., Feb. 7-9
SHOWTIMES: Sat-Sun, 2/7-8 @ Noon Monday, 2/9 @ 7:00 In this, the first in the APES saga, Heston's
stone-chiseled features and bare chest bring us the movie that was to create an empire. After an accident in space, astronaut George Taylor (Heston) finds that he has crash-landed on a strange planet where humans are
subservient to the Ape-Lords of the world. Finding himself less than welcomed, Taylor endures trials and tortures from the highly intelligent simians, forcing him to utter the first words ever spoken by a human to the
apes, "Keep your hands off me you damn dirty apes!" Taylor desperately tries to regain his freedom and get off of the God-forsaken planet, only to discover that this foreign land may not be as distant as he
suspected. Dir. Franklin J. Schaffer, 1959, USA, 112 min. New 35mm print courtesy of Criterion Pictures.

**** Agreed... While I haven't read the whole issue yet, I've liked
what I have read... I like the pictures in there of the early more "real
looking" apes... You can barely make them out due to them being head shots, but
it looks like those apes are wearing clothes that are shown on the artist
renderings of early the APES wardrobe. ***

*** Whitty said he seen a TV show that had bloopers, I think he
said they were from "THE TYRANT".
As far as bloopers from the films, one could guess since they
wanted NOTHING from PLANET to be seen as "laughable", maybe they destroyed any
PLANET screw-ups, not wanting to risk anything getting out that shouldn't at the
time. The same could maybe be said for BENEATH, where they weren't so concerned
about getting laughed at (since PLANET was a hit), but to protect the
Mutants whom they even kept under wraps in the NATO film... Again, this is all
just one possible scenario, I don't say I even neccessarily think it's the
case... ***
