astronaut?

An informed opinion is preferable to an uninformed opinion. In my
opinion. Coug, you owe it to yourself to set your ass down and invest a
couple hours watching Burton's flick. Just to say you saw it and
henceforward can voice an informed opinion about it. I have little
doubt that you'll dislike it just as most of us seem to. I saw it once
in the theater -- and was dismayed at how awful it was (the production
values didn't save a crappy script/story) -- and have seen it once on
DVD, and I'll probably not see it again until another decade has gone
by. If then.

Cougar, see it once. Don't be like the late ingrate Jerry Falwell who
condemned Scorcese's "LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST" without having
bothered to actually see the film. You're usually quite informed when
you voice an opinion here in Yahooland, and even when I disagree with
it I at least respect it. I'll respect whatever opinion you form of
Burton's POTA2K... but only AFTER you get informed -- by seeing it.

Patrick well said, how can anyone have a view about something they
have not seen?
I have seen the film quite a few times my youngest likes it , it has
got good points about the movie the costumes and makeup are far
better that the original movies but i still prefer the originals has
i grew up with them.
But has you stated the storyline was bloody rubbish.
To have a view on something you have not seen or done is poor
journalism , you want to have a valid view watch it.

Sorry what the hell are you talking about i was a skinhead because of
the music madness? racist what the F*** are talking about.
The haircut was because i was in the military at sixteen and a half,
by the time i was eighteen i was fighting argentinians.
I killed four of the enemy but i'm not proad of that but it was them
or me.
i was decorated and recieved two medels which i sold the minute i
returned to the u.k.
Lambretta's where what i prefered because i spend about £10.000 on my
hobby of racing them at Donnington Park amongest over places.
You are very ignorant if you think all skinheads where N.F or british
movement.
Do you think anyone in the armed forces would be allowed to do that
job?
Before you make aspersions ( check what the word means ) on anybody
you should check the bloody facts mate

No it still does not make sense. Only taking along 1 female to breed a colony from is just stupid. What if something happened to the one child bearing human you took along?... Oh wait it did, she died, therefore they were left with no one else who could have children.

Don’t worry Mark he pisses everyone off at some point.

Then you’ll find he doesn’t even know which group (planet?) he’s on most days and you get how to take him (not too seriously).

T’s also VERY pro guns and frankly I think POTA has a very SERIOUS message that’s contrary to this.

Collins English Dictionary ( Skinhead )
Youth with very short hair.
Also i mentioned i followed madness the group ( white reggae )
Also i liked Specials, The Beat,The selector,UB 40,Bad Manners, all
these group had black artists in them, the following of these
eventually had me listening to other forms of music, Sam Cooke, Percy

Cornelius didn't even think he would

To be fair, I used to think that too until I started working with a
couple of skinheads who played in a ska band and would go crazy for
any (black) Jamaican musicians who would tour here - Toots and the
Maytal, Desmond Dekker, the Skatallites. If you get a chance you
should check out a very good film called 'This Is England' from a
year or two ago. Points out very well how the rascist element of the
skinheads got all the media attention in the 80's but was only a
minority of the skinheads, who had their origins in the mod/ska
movement.

Again i used to wear Dr Martins, stay press trousers , crombie coats,
ben shirman shirts.
The fact that not you but a member called me racist is a bloody laugh.
Collins Dictionary ( racist n. hostile attitude or behaviour to
members of other races, religion or beliefs in the innate superiority
of one's own race or belief.
And then says you cant be a p.o.t.a fan if you where a skinhead.
Race plays a big part in the films ( the only good human is a dead
human) and the fact they have gorilla's for soldiers ,chimps for
science and orangs for goverment.
That to me looks like pigeon holeing there society, and i believe
there is only allowed one teaching of the simion scroles, there is
not allowed any other religion.
I never belonged to the KKK , NF or British Movement neither did a
lot of friends that i used to go racing with ,drinking with and to
concerts ( Gigs )Some being Reggae with more black people in
attendance that white but i never had any trouble , was there for the
music not trouble.
Most of the trouble that i remember used to be between gangs ( which
has not changed even today , may not be skinheads but this gang and
that gang)and football games which in general has been completly
irradicated.
So does that make all punks druggies? I dont think so are all Goths
suicadal, rappers murders you get the picture

Thank god for someone with sense to see what it was really about the
music, one of the first original skinhead groups was a little known
group called SLADE.
The clothing originally came from the minors here in the U.K.
And the music you mentioned , well your quite well informed because i
went to see all those mentioned .
TooTs and Desmond Decker where fantastic, but Bob Marley was
something else

'scuse my ignorance, but where does the 'XXVI' in 'Mendez XXVI' come
from? He's just 'Mendez' in the film credits.
Also, I was looking at the stills gallery on the Beneath DVD (from
the 'Ultimate' head collection) - only a few pics, but two are of
what looks like a lady (could be wrong) being made up as a gorilla
soldier, and another is a makeup artist at work on a gorilla mask.
Can't tell cos it's half-finished but it looks like a gorilla with
the type of skin the mutants have under their masks. Could it be a
mutant gorilla from the film's original ending? I can upload it, I'll
have another look at the burning crucified apes to see if they're
    mutilated like that too.

Sure, I like my ska too. I think I've only seen Toots from that first

Yes i have seen the film, have you seen green street.
Vinnie jones is fantastic in it.
I dont feel it was a bad thing going to the falklands , i have been
twice to the islands of the falklands and south georia.
So i have spoke to many of the islanders, they considered themselfs
to be british and that they where invaded.
I lost friends down there , but it is still seen has a major victory
in terms of numbers, we had over two thousand troops to there ten
    thousand .
I was one of the lucky ones , however when i returned back to the U.k
i was in a bad way with shapnal woulds and mental issues due to
things i had seen and done.
I still have an iterest in that music UB40 are in Brighton at Xmas so
will be going although the lead singer is now maxi priest and support
    is eddie grant.

It's being reported that Universal is courting Glen Larson, producer of the original '70's series, to do a movie version of "Battlestar Galactica" ( http://www.aintitcool.com/node/40192 ). Of course there's been an acclaimed revamp series, which BG traditionalists supposedly rejected. I know almost nothing about either series or BG fandom, but apparently Universal is giving a nod to the old school fans by bringing in Larson and bringing back characters like Adama for the movie.
The only thing this has to do with anything is that many "Ape" fans seem upset by Fox's "Caesar" plans that stray once again from the original movies. That just seems to be the way in Hollywood. Even this new BG is described as a revamp but with a touch of the old. But it is a step in the retro direction.
When I interviewed Brian (Apemania) Penikas last weekend he said Fox does go to them for ideas of what the fans want in a new movie. He said he told them we want the original characters we fell in love with - - Cornelius, Zira, Zauis, etc. He said last summer they were considering two ideas: a "prequel" to "Planet" and this "Caesar" idea. Though I've been as open to the new "Caesar" revamp as anyone I think it would be cool if they could do something in the original universe; maybe update it visually in some way but keep the names and costumes, etc.
I think there's some resistance to doing a straight "prequel" because there's too much baggage with the originals. Starting over seems to be the safe choice. But they are starting to come out with "hybrids" like "Superman Returns" and the new "Star Trek" where they take certain elements from the originals and just go "bigger". Is that the way to go? Or should they just let the originals rest in peace and start over (again)?

*** The Almighty FOX should lurk on these egroups to see what the people want... Yes, APEMANIA is a place to start, but with his workload, etc., does Brian really have time to keep up with these groups to know what the fans are currently saying they'd want?

As for me, I wouldn't want to see Zira, Cornelius, Dr. Zaius, etc. again... They're all dead anyway and if they'd do a prequel of sorts, I'd rather see new characters... But, if they'd insist on using Zira & Cornelius again, I'd rather have their PLANET personas, not their "romantic comedy" selves from ESCAPE... ***

The Glen Larson that produced the original 70's series is also the guy
responsible for the current series. So they are just trying to do a
movie based on the current series. Having said that, the current series
is infinitely superior to the old series and that is why it is such a
success. If they tried to bring it back as it was, it would have failed.
(It wasn't all that successful even way back then.)
BG is an example of where they corrected the deficiencies of a old
product and created something a lot better. A rarety.

A funny story about the new BG is that for years Larson was working on a
revival and at the same time one of the original actors, Richard
"appollo" Hatch, was also pursuing it. But for years to two clashed.
Ultimately Larson won out and even brought on Hatch to act in the new
series with a minor recurring role.

I have just looked up rudeboy on wiki, i learned something also , the
getto culture of the sixty's isn't something that came to the u.k.
However the political side of it sure did, this has also been done in
the punk era, even modern music can and does have some political
    undertones.
Yes the street life part of it is true , i was brought up on a
council estate and my parents seperated when i was eight .
From then i was in care , childrens home , foster parents and
eventually moved from Manchester down to the south of england .
This was partly my reasons for going into the forces to get of the
    streets and learn a trade.
Since coming out of the forces , married with two boys own home and
    business.
I work when i want and dont have a boss!!!
Even though i had a rough and hard childhood i wouldn't change it
because want dont kill you you learn from.
Getting back to the clothing of the rudeboys all that was mentioned
is true ,but DM boots and jeanns half way up your leg's and braces
origiated from the miners of the north of england with the haircut .
The haircut was easier to clean after spending a shift down the
mines, i personally never spent a single moment doing this , luckily
for me the industry was starting to close down.

The one's in London did and here in Deep Ellum wore Docs, with white laces.  That or boots with steel toes.
The Confederate Hammer Skins.  They didn't have much to do with the music scene.  Club owners wouldn't have the bands. But you'd still see them around and hear about them.  One former member was force into hiding from threats for quitting.  A black friend was involved in a stabbing from a group of them. A Jamaican Reggie band leader was getting hassled by them etc . . . I once heard they were looking for me, so I went looking for them and spent the night walking in circles.  They were indirectly involved in the destruction of nightlife here.  I'm not sure if black after-hours bars came in as a reaction against them or came in after their eradication by police.  But either way, soon after people were either getting jumped or panhandled on the way back to their cars.  So they stopped giving the after-hours bars licenses and the cops made their presents felt.  Then you couldn't walk back to your car without getting hassled by the cops.  Then there was Rodney King type footage on the news of a roller derby girl getting smacked around by a huge black cop.  Then people stopped going the clubs, the clubs couldn't afford to book good local bands or roadshows.  Now it's a ghost town. They're putting in a train station now to bring in light rail traffic, but doubt it will help.

POTA has been on my list of favorite movies for years and I also think
its one of the greatest films of all time. I would add KING KONG
(1933), THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938), TOUCH OF EVIL, VERTIGO,
THE THING (both versions), THE BIG SLEEP, and ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE
WEST just to name a few.

I love PAN'S LABYRINTH but actually like the director's THE DEVIL'S
    BACKBONE a bit more.

    Hi Jeff.

    Great post.

    (1)      I knew they were talking to someone and Brian is probably the person who pays more in licensing fees than anyone else because he does/has been doing so steadily over MANY years.  There is far too much of Fox now taking a POSITIVE direction on things for them to have NOT spoken to fans;

    (2)      It’s time to start over.  POTA is a PILOT (as with HEROES, the PILOT then changed in major ways before we see episode 1).  But they really need to do one more thing: PLAN HOW MANY MOVIES THEY ARE DOING AND MAP THEM OUT SO THEY MAKE SENSE!

It's being reported that Universal is courting Glen Larson, producer of the original '70's series, to do a movie version of "Battlestar Galactica" ( http://www.aintitco ol.com/node/ 40192 ).

That just seems to be the way in Hollywood .

Where is the Escape in that?  That's my argument

    Without them is it POTA?
    We had that with POTA2K1
I sure don't want more of the
    same.  If they continued that
they need to get back on track
by picking up the basic story
from the book back on Earth.

    Speaking of Rude Boy...
I just saw that Joe Strummer
tribute film, The Future Is Unwritten.
I always thought Joe was just a Rockstar
Asshole, while Mick Jones was like your
Best Friend You Never Met.  This film
really give me some insight as to why.
You get that perception.  It's not so cut
and dry. Rat Scabbies of the Damned
is one of my favorite people in the biz
and I couldn't understand why one of
his mates would be Joe.  Now I know.

Isn't it weird that the color of laces says anything
other than that matches with my outfit.  It's very
POTA.  I like that line from Quadrophinia.  About
wearing uniforms, and being a Mod or a Rocker.
"You gotta be somfin', right? Otherwise you may
as well go jump in the sea!"  Watch SLC Punk. It
as a very good dissertation about The Tribes in it.

You mentioned Quadrophinia, i was there in Brighton when it was being
filmed and waspayed £25.00 pound has a extra when you see the
lambretta's coming over the hill into brighton on the country lane.
Also was in the fight scene on the beach but alas i cant see myself
on the beach scene maybe it got cut.
I was also watching when sting came out of the grand hotel filming
him getting on his crome vespa.

If they tried to bring it back as it was, it would have failed. (It wasn't all that successful even way back then.)

There’s a whole episode of Boston Public dedicated to that and this episode suggests many black disagree and simply cannot stand to hear the word from white lips.

They argued it might be racism and this was debated with no real conclusion.

    Very interesting episode though.

Ended up in a riot I think!

I think if any white guy can say it and have it taken

the same way as when a black guy says it it's him.
