Sorry fellas --- licking lips and all, Ledger’s performance had me 100% convinced it was the real Joker and I have seen Heath Ledger in TV Shows since he was a kid – he was unrecognizable as anyone or anything but the Joker in that movie.

Especially since it had already been done to great effect by the
actors playing "Mad Eye Moody/Bertie Crouch, Jr." in HARRY POTTER AND
THE GOBLET OF FIRE.

Silence from the auditorium when Charlton Heston's image was shown
during the video montage of those no longer with us.

The other two might be quibbles but this moment was downright
    shameful.

During the video of images from those within the movie industry that
have died the previous year, the crowd clapped politely for each
person. Some, who were more famous (i.e. Roy Schneider, Harold
Pinter, Ricardo Montalbán, etc.) had an extended clip and drew more
applause from the Kodak Theatre. Makes sense. But when Heston's image
appeared, complete with clips from notable features like The Ten
Commandments and Planet of the Apes, the entire auditorium was
silent. You could hear a pin drop or Ben Lyons asking inane
questions. Then when the next image appeared, applause magically
    reappeared.

Heston, who was an outspoken advocate of gun-rights and president of
the NRA, was notoriously despised by the Hollywood community. He was
also the victim of a hit-and-run journo-assault from Michael Moore in
Bowling for Columbine. Needless to say, the man wasn't exactly loved
    by his colleagues.

The man has earned respect. An icon within the industry, his death
was barely noted in the mainstream press. Hey, that's cool, the press
is probably a different matter anyway, but to be disrespected in that
fashion in a moment where those in the industry are supposed to honor
those who are no longer with is was disgusting. H-town, you can
disagree with the man all you want, (in fact I do for most issues)
but give the man the credit that he has earned and is owed. He was in
Soylent Green, people! SOYLENT GREEN! It doesn't get much better than
    that.

I'm going to glue a beard onto the back of my hands (I've trimmed up the hairs of four human hair one point beards and tweaked them), finish up with grease paint on the back of my hands and wear black/brown nail polish. I'm going for the full blown effect!!

    That’s just unnecessary.

If they are really taking the movies THAT seriously then they are talking “killing him off” as they did with Robin (and then getting another Joker, with a different actor).

So give the Oscar to the make up people then. Like I said it was a great performance but personally I didn't think it was worth an Oscar.

Sorry fellas --- licking lips and all, Ledger’s performance had me 100% convinced it was the real Joker and I have seen Heath Ledger in TV Shows since he was a kid – he was unrecognizable as anyone or anything but the Joker in that movie.

    Neil,

I'm going to glue a beard onto the back of my hands (I've trimmed up the hairs of four human hair one point beards and tweaked them), finish up with grease paint on the back of my hands and wear black/brown nail polish.  I'm going for the full blown effect!!

I want to "represent" with gusto.

Should still work - there's a link from the dedicated page on
Hunter's site aswell. I found this on the MySpace page of 'Mr
    Positive' (Jeff Keithline):
"1974-77, Mike Hayden had been with Brian MacDonald in Electric
Cowboy. He had me come in to play with himself, Brian, and Roger
Briggs (American Blues Exchange, Ghost Dance, Captain Obvious, etc),
I learned how to play songs in keys other than E & A. Ed Bradley
(Quiet Ones, Poison, Liquid Light) came in when Roger left..at some
point we changed the name to Brian MacDonald & Electric Cowboy, and
then to The Gold Rush Band (joined occasionally by Stan Slossberg on
Sax, Tambourine, & Vibes)....Electric Cowboy arranged & recorded the
Planet of the Apes record for TPI ( see
    www.myspace.com/theplanetoftheapes ), appeared in the 1974 Macy's
Thanksgiving Parade, played 4 nights at Max's Kansas City, hung out &
recorded odd tracks with Larry Young...etc... 1977-79 Silverado came
back from the West Coast with a new band & LP. when the call went out
for some new band members I, along with just about everybody around,
    auditioned. I got the job..."

He has lots of old photos too, I haven't had a proper look to see if
there's any of that particular band.

Strange today I've heard POTA referred to twice! On NPR a movie critic mentioned it in his report about New Yorker Films demise and just now a character on "ER" was coming out of a vacuum tube and he said "it's like one of those things in Planet of the Apes...the original one." (talking about the ship beds)

Not to mention many Google alerts mentioning it unfortunately in reference to the chimp killed last week and the New York Post cartoon....

The mouth looks unmovable, the hands are just gloves, and a brown
costume on a chimp?? (Actually, the outfit looks OK - it's nice to
see a little bit of variety there) But it's only for a two-second
shot and it's a nice nod classic POTA, even though it's POTA2001
          they'll be showing.

Rich – it has surely been worth the wait!

          Rich,

It’s very important to me that you actually mentioned me (albeit typically last in alphabetic order!!!) J in your book.  With all the people in the POTA community who have been turned against me, you actually had the balls to thank me and acknowledge me and the POTADG.  This must have taken some balls because it is evident that the DG is shunned and certain people go out of their way NOT to mention the DG.

It’s nice to know that a few POTA fans out there don’t just run with the crowd (flock?).

          Michael

I've had mine for a while now & don't think I'll ever have it read
cover to cover, but its fantastic for grabbing & reading a few items
whenever I need a quick apes fix & I'm sure I'll find lot's of facts
          I didn't know.

I too am the very proud owner of a copy.

Rich's book is living ,breathing*, proof that something of exceptional quality can still come out of the Apes franchise and that there's still life in the old girl yet!

If there were such thing as, the annual POTA award, Rich get's my vote.

*Actually it's inanimate, but I just woke up and can't think of anything better right now.

Yes, in spite of the occasional brouhaha
at least here you can have the occasional
brouhaha. And now for a few parting shots.
          Did you know . . . Not only is a citizen's
gun four times more likely to stop a crime
than commit one, but you are four times
more likely to die from medical malpractice
than from being shot with a gun.  Regulate that!

I didn't take that very many photos, but a lot of photos were taken of me. It took 3 hours to glue everything down, two hours to remove almost everything. Went to bed exhausted at 1:30 AM. Have a cold now, and a b-day party later for my son. I'm sooo tired. I was a bit rushed puttingon the makeup/hair because I slept through my alarm. I got an honorable mention at the costume contest, though!
I met Don Pedro Colley. He was such a nice person. I gave him a big hug and didn't want to let go. He was as soft as a big fluffy pillow.

          HO MY GOD !
Are you still cracking that old yarn, i thought it was done and
          dusted.
I dont care which country you come from there is gun crime.
U.K isn't that bad due to the fact guns are not really avaiavable.
America a boy of eleven killed his dads girlfriend or new wife only
          last week.
Australia everyone is a desendant of a criminal deported from the
          U.K .
Africa there are wars going on between tribes, drugs and country's.
Afganistan poppy and taliban, are common place.
Asia slave trade , drugs , say no more you cannot win a argument with
every race trying to dominate another.
Now unless you have an answer drop it.

            Just in case….

Neil is a Pom who “chose” to live in Australia .

My grandfather is Irish and he came to Australia of his own free will.

We do joke about the fact that the colony was settled mainly by convicts, but keep in mind they were mainly the starving who stole a loaf of bread to feed their families!

And keep in mind also that millions of immigrants now outrageously outweigh the descendants of people who were starving and attempted to feed their familiy.

I’m not offended because it’s about as accurate as saying “ America everyone is a descendant of a slave”.  Which is a pretty ridiculous statement….

Yes i was only joking about australia, but i dont think all the early
settlers just stole bread to get deported.
The history i learned at school told that all the murders and thiefs
            where deported.
I know its not like that i have a close friend who has just
emergrated to Adielade to start a new life down under.
He loves it and has got a good life style , even though he's not

No only kidding you looked brilliant, and you have managed to meet a
dead mutant after he got spiked on the door of the cell, ( how come

...and just to be clear, that was a 1975 cover version of a remix
done by Lalo Schifrin in 1974:

"Escape From Tomorrow / Ape Shuffle"
            20th Century BTC-2150
            (P) 1974 20th Century Records
Recorded October 1, 1974 at Sound City Studios, Van Nuys, California

After six feature films between 1968 and 1973, the rather tired
PLANET OF THE APES franchise came to CBS-TV in September 1974. Lalo
Schifrin was called in to score the pilot episode, titled "Escape
From Tomorrow". To publicize the show in late 1974, 20th Century Fox
issued a 45-rpm single featuring the main theme, spiced with a bit
more melody and an intoxicating disco beat, and backed it with
another slice of good groove called "Ape Shuffle." It didn't help.
The show disappeared and this grooving little piece of Schifrinana –
which is far funkier than anything heard in the show – vanished
            quickly too.

Although subtitled "Theme From Planet Of The Apes" – and,
confusingly, the b-side to the 45-rpm single of the real theme – "Ape
Shuffle" bears more similarities to Schifrin's "Enter The Dragon"
theme (with related sound effects), sixties spy film cues (MURDERER'S
ROW, THE LIQUIDATOR) and one of his earliest American film
themes, "Rhino Romp" (1964), than it does to the very discordant mix
of electronics, horns and strings the composer used to score the
first APES TV episode. Schifrin's score defers, perhaps, to peer and
musical compatriot Jerry Goldsmith's original APES film cues. Here,
Schifrin dresses the apes up for the town to get on down with the
able assistance of Motown legends James Jamerson on bass and Dennis
Coffey and Melvin Ragin on guitar. You can almost hear the dawn of
man's disco evolution here in the monkey's "awwÂ…beep, beep."

"Best costume prob goes to either the Batman and Catwoman duo, or the woman in the Planet of the Apes with FX makeup, hair and costume. I did a double-take when I saw her. She looked so unassuming walking the show. If I didn't know better I'd say she walked off a tv/movie set."

Still suffering from the effects of Wondercon. I've succumbed to the cold my kids have been harboring the week before. If I had a cold I would not have been able to wear the appliance. My great downfall to the costume was rushing the makeup. The hair came out like crap. I should have used a photo for reference, which would have given me a better hairline. I hate that!!! I used the outline of the appliance for a guide, but now I know better. Next time I will do better. Live and learn, I suppose.
Next time I'll go by myself so that I get there when I'm good and ready, not try to meet a deadline. I'm definitely going back next year, hopefully with a better sleeve material that I will re-weave as soon as I find the right yarn. And I won't have to worry about entering the contest. I just entered for the hell of it, not really expecting anything..but a lot of people kept telling me I should win and that I had the best makeup on. I beg to differ. My hair just sucked!!
I didn't really sweat that much even with all the bodies there. It was warm, but I wasn't sweating profusely. I should have had more water to drink...I just did not want to travel with much, and whatever I dragged around all day gave me such a shoulder ache! Two bottles of 16oz shakes which were my food for the day...I drank the last one when I first sat down and never wanted to get up. I wasn't hungry but I was tired of dragging it around. So I lightened my load a bit by drinking it. I didn't want to get up anymore, but a lot of people still came up for photos. I couldn't really do anything without people photographing me.
I avoided eating because I did not want to have to touch up my teeth in case I accidentally "missed" while making a correction. I just didn't trust myself because even when looking in a mirror I still "missed" the straw. When I took a drink, I made sure to go in slow motion and went with memory to aim well. I was also a bit devastated to find out I didn't bring any extra straws, especially when I was so thirsty back stage. So...I went for it and took a sip from a cup and I was ok. I was surprised I was able to do it. I was just going to skip drinking anything.
I glued ears on, too, and that made it super difficult to hear the voice on the other end of the cell phone. I could barely talk on the phone, having so much difficulty hearing my conversation of exactly where my girlfriend was (we got separated)...and the din of the crowd...and everyone kept asking for photos.
I could have killed my girlfriend, too...she was helping me glue down bits of my hair...bloody cell phone made it more messed up...and she spilled glue down the front of my green outfit. I told her not to worry--it would dry clear. It did but there's a LONG accident of dried up glue all the way down the front. The family with a baby next to us did not have any baby wipes. What the hell? You come to a convention with a baby and no baby wipes? Grrr....Luckily we were near a curtain and I used that to wipe off whatever glue I could. The bathroom was MILES away!!! There's a long dark stain now...but I can easily replace that panel. My heart just sank because I had asked for the judges to review the craftsmanship of the costume beforehand.
Don Pedro Colley was the most huggable sweety pie. He was very very loveable and very friendly. He said he remembers the apes very well. He was telling my girlfriend that he could feel me shaking when I gave him a hug. I was so excited I could have cried...but made myself stop because how the heck was I going to blow my nose? We did not talk much about the movie...we talked about the economy and also what other celebrities charged for photos or autographs. In retrospect I should have asked him about the makeup process he had to undergo, what he remembered the most from being in the movie. Grrr...I did not expect him to be there either.
There were a lot of makeup people there, they introduced themselves to me as such when they came up almost to my eyeballs looking for where my skin ended and began. They were really in my face!! I think there were three or four who came in for close inspection. I passed. And luckily, nobody came up to poke my face. It was a zoo, definitely.

Kim got that too.  Fox was giving tours on the set.
She yelped and the tours ended.  Don't beat yourself
up about the hair.  It is, after all, the toughest part.
That fact that you're willing to give it another go
proves you have what it takes.  As for charging
for autographs, Cary Grant started that.  $5
bucks a pop was his going rate.  Kim didn't
charge, but Bill Windom did.  Or rather he
would only sign photos if you bought one
of his for, you guessed it, $5 bucks a pop.
Some one else was selling photos of Kim.
So as I would jump back in line and have
her sign a few things at a time of nearly
my entire collection, I added to it.  One
of my faves is her and Kathryn playing
dolls and one is her Oscar with a scarf
on it's head.  There were also some with
her husband Bob, who she had recently
lost, so I gave those to her and she
gave me watery eyed thank you.

I saw one of the pics of you. I only have one other suggestion.
If you're having to rework the costume because of the glue
I would put some more, not really sure of the sewing term,
but I think they're called darts, in the collar.  See below.

The other day I was sent a post from another group where John Roache
made a comment that someone told him Fox is signing crew for "Caesar"
              (eg Danny Devito).

I forwarded this to Scott Frank's assistant and I have not heard back
yet (I'm a little worried actually that she might think I'm insane!).

Has anyone else here heard of such claims because I think it's rot!
Surely they would wait to HAVE a CHARACTER before they cast?

How did it go with the Arnie POTA proposed film? What there a script
              first?

And...who should they be running to sign up?

His heart attack put a damper on those plans.

Common sense! My wife made me go to see his 'Romeo and Juliet' and I
hated it. Hands-down the worst film I've paid money to see.

              I don’t know if he’s a national hero but I think he’s shit!

He has done a few good things but so has my great aunt Mave!

If you really want to vomit then go see his films.
