I've also stumbled across this comic from the 70s ... seems to have the same cover image... how strange is that ;)

I actually had a tiny little bit to do with the 'fantasy cards' as well (like all of the artwork on the backs and the wrappers) but like I said before, I have no problem with them being on his site but maybe a bit of recognition for the creators wouldn't go amiss in situations like this.

I don't disagree. At the very least I'd prefer a link to Hunter's site so people could more easily see the cards online instead of having to download a massive zip file.

Seriously though folks, just like BTB is actually WHITTY, Foster and Ballard; the cards are really Greg P and Foster.

POTA has more than its fair share of hoarders, it's always heartening to
see there's just as many, if not more, willing to share their
collection.

One image in particular struck a chord, I'll upload it in a mo'.

Agreed it’s nice to see people sharing, but I must say I have not come across too many hoarders in POTA fandom.

Of course there’s Russo, who really sticks out having thousands of rare photos we may never see apparently.

And Talbot-Butler sure SAYS he has a lot of interviews and stuff but I don’t really believe him.

But other than them I really can’t imagine who you are referring to.

No, but that doesn't really bother me. It's the internet. Stuff gets copied and linked to. What bothers me in this case is the 'hat tip' to the guy who copied the cards from Hunter's and Kassidy's sites and presumably represented them as his own work wothout acknowledging the source sites where people could go to see the proper credits.

Great article. I think there is enough evidence here to put to rest
that controversy. Well in my mind at least. I've always doubted the
authenticity of that head myself, but for a long time I was willing to
give the benefit of a doubt for lack of any evidence to the contrary.
I think anyone with an open mind has to to admit now that it is pretty
conclusive that this came from "The Terminal".

So what now? Will Les keep on bringing to venue for photo ops claiming
it is a vintage POTA prop? I hope not. If he was duped when he bought
it, that sucks. But that is no reason to perpetuate a lie. He could
get some recompense just by selling it as photo ops for what it is.
Just a Statue of Liberty prop.

    Thanks Tim!

    Dario

I agree and I take it from Hunter's reply that he knew it was done but it doesn't seem to have bothered him.

      Thanks Tim!

This was posted on the other group.....

Greetings, everyone. As you are all now aware, I sent the Apes cards to my friend who runs the site "Crosseyed Cyclops". I have been trading collectibles with him for some time now, in particular comics and non-sports cards. Some of the items I have sent him were then posted to his site, while others were not. He asked me for some non-sports sci-fi cards, and I sent him the Apes cards, among others. He did not tell me before posting them on his site. Since I have seen today that this has caused some concern with the group, I checked his site and found that he had, indeed, posted them without my knowledge. After seeing the concerns of the group, I have contacted him and asked him to remove them from his site. I apologize for "overstepping my bounds", and hope you can accept that it was not intentional. The cards should be removed from his site within the next day or two. Again, please accept my apologies for an unintentional foul-up.

Well actually there's only time if I can get 3 pages finished in whatever the time is that is left.

So has anyone got a 3 pager ready or even have an idea for a story?

TRADING collectibles?  So he’s saying he TRADED these cards that were not his and got something for them?

No, but that doesn't really bother me. It's the internet. Stuff gets copied and linked to. What bothers me in this case is the 'hat tip' to the guy who copied the cards from Hunter's and Kassidy's sites and presumably represented them as his own work wothout acknowledging the source sites where people could go to see the proper credits.

This all sounds very nice but it's still going to be a bit tight to get anything done within 2 weeks, especially if there is no story ready to go at this moment.
That means a story that is scripted to fit 3 pages. It's not just a matter of throwing any old story at me and expecting me to sort it out and get it drawn within that time frame.

Because I am paying Neil to do other things.

I was offering to pay him to do this Terry.

The offer's there if we get 3 pages of a complete script that's worth Neil illustrating.

So let's not get sidetracked and everyone start with their stories about the reasons we COULDN'T do this and get cracking.

        You've got 24 hours everyone.

        I'll be submitting something too.

And I can almost bet mine kicks the butt out of any other so there's your incentive.

do people write their script and then post it on here for everyone to read
or is it sent to someone specific like Neil to judge which he thinks is the one he wants to tackle ?!?!

I just re-read this and whilst Jeff Red Spy says that the cards were posted without his knowledge Hunter says that he "contributed them to Cross-eyed Cyclops" Surely that means that they were provided with the knowledge that they would be used? Bit strange.

I just re-read this and whilst Jeff Red Spy says that the cards were posted without his knowledge Hunter says that he "contributed them to Cross-eyed Cyclops" Surely that means that they were provided with the knowledge that they would be used? Bit strange.

Then you probably shouldn't have posted:

"Do the creators of these cards know about this?? You might not care.....but still...."

But like you said, time to let it go.

I was going to do a post on this tonight or tomorrow and try and broaden the issue

(It wasn't going to be quick post, I was warming up the spell checker !!)...there is so much stuff being scanned and put on the web... a lot of it, like Hunters site that gives access to stuff long gone and has a scholarly aspect to it, which is great.

Then others like the site Cyclops that ... seem more avarice (If that's the right word) it's all about loading up the most stuff possible...plenty of copyrighted material ...stuff still available at retail... (they got Watchmen up there for God's sake !! supposedly the bread and butter of most comic shops) and in connection with this how the negating of any credit to the actual authors seems to depersonalise the items which makes it "easier" for the site/ person to load them up as no individual is perceived as being robbed of income / credit .

The site has plenty of Frank Miller items ...who... well he's Frank Miller he won't miss a few quid... but no mention of Lynn Varley who painted his work and on things like 300 adds so much of the look and atmosphere (I'd go as far as say she's at least 50% of the art) Does she need the royalties ?

and has she lost them any way?

Just a few things I was pondering about...

        Moving on...

        Best,Graham.

Here’s one that Robin Medford posted on the POTA group.

Robin also sent me a copy….

Neil was here at my place when Robin sent it and we both really love the style!

          What does everyone else think?

I’m not sure Andrew is getting our welcomes – he seems to have some issues joining and setting up but I will be in touch with him shortly.

I have been told I’m allowed to give you a few HINTS as to what’s coming.

          Well, I will say this:

Andrew’s company, BLAM! Ventures, LLC, is a multimedia company specializing in the comic book/graphic novel industry and digital media.

The ‘Lost Tribes’ imprint looks to revive many classic science fiction and fantasy movies and television shows of the '60s, '70s and '80s with a fresh approach and a reverent hand, touching the audiences of today's generation, while reacquainting previous fans with old friends.

Andrew has told me his company IS looking at a POTA project but it is not specific if the story will be an illustrated novel or a comic, or if indeed it will actually go ahead.

I will say I am looking forward to the San Diego Comic Con to the extent that I may be there.

Andrew – if you get this post please respond and please let us know if there is anything you can add!

          Michael

I'd like to extend a huge welcome to Andrew E. C. Gaska from BLAM! Ventures.

Andrew, there's been a lot of talk about a new planet of the apes comic.

One of our group members ran into a comic artist who said something's on the
          way.

          This is exciting stuff!

What, if anything, can you tell us?

Terry it’s not really a story is it?

If you take the cliffhanger away – you would hardly call what’s left an entire story would you?

Neil and I are looking for a TV Show story to do so if you would like to complete this script as a 17 page story we might take it further.

Anyway thanks for having a go mate.

          I know what you mean

but actually I wrote the story basically as a teaser

it is just a 3 page story with a cliffhanger

I like it too – but we need a complete 3 pager (not part one of a complete story!).

Sorry Terry.  My cheque-book isn’t that big!

Panel 2: (A large shadow of possibly a gorilla soldier lurks in the bushes)

Panel 3: (The noise of fluttering birds into the air is enough to wake up just Galen)

Panel 4: Galen looks around and calls out "Who's there?"

Panel 5: (Galen sees footprints and follows the shadowy figure into the woods away from Virdon and Burke who remain sleeping)

Panel 5: (Galen looks up to find Virdon and Burke smiling down at him)

So are you comparing Terry's story to taking a dump?

          That's low.

          Terry's story is very good.

It isn't an entire story but nor is it shit.

          That's just rude man.

          This looks great.

          I like this style too.

I will ask if you have considered using a program for scripting the text because the freehand is a bit uneasy on the eyes.

          Good work anyway.

I have been told I'm allowed to give you a few HINTS as to what's coming.

          Well, I will say this:

Andrew's company, BLAM! Ventures, LLC, is a multimedia company specializing in the comic book/graphic novel industry and digital media.

The 'Lost Tribes' imprint looks to revive many classic science fiction and fantasy movies and television shows of the '60s, '70s and '80s with a fresh approach and a reverent hand, touching the audiences of today's generation, while reacquainting previous fans with old friends.

"Wolverine", the new "X-Men" movie from Fox started the summer off right for the studio with an estimated $ 87 million opening weekend. The movie overcame reviews (from critics and fans alike) that skewered it as if it were on the business end of the title character's claws, and a leaked workprint that spelled disaster. The # 2 movie, the comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" was at $15 million. Next week the onslaught begins with "Star Trek"; remains to be seen if "Wolverine" can hold up.
Good luck to our masters. If anyone can make gold from a sow's ear, I mean an ape's ear, I mean a wolverine's ear, they can.

            Terry,

Something a few members have asked me about privately:

WHY ARE YOU DOING 3 ISSUES?

In the current climate, shouldn’t we get just on, then another in a few months then another a few months after that?

It’s been suggested that you will get about $30 a pop for all 3 issues and seeing as you have no printing costs, you stand to make a bunch of money like that…..particularly when you have essentially gathered and delegated for the issue.

So are the cynics right Terry?  Are you doing 3 issues to get a few bills paid?

            Michael
