The first thing I ever found was at the local comic
book shop
by luck I found a beat copy of POTA Marvel Magazine
#7
It was the only thing I had for a long time - got
it when I was about 14 in 1985
Since it was the 1980s there was nothing out there
at all and I had not been part of the original toy craze as I was 3 in
1974.
The local video had all the movies and I did rent
them around this time as well - so except for airings I first saw on TV
(late night movie)
this was the first time I got to see the movies
when I wanted !
Whats your story? <.html <.html

.htmlThe first thing I found relating to POTA was in 1975 when I found the album of Planet of the Apes
in a record shop for $1.00. Which I still have.

I always thought Zaius did that so that Taylor could die a slow death and that's two less carcasses to have to deal with in Ape City. Jess.

I must have been 8. It was one of those canister puzzles. Our dad glued it onto a piece of cardboard once we put the puzzle pieces together, and we nailed that over this door in the
bedroom because we were freaked out at wood grain of the door, which looked like an old man staring at you.

The first thing I'd have picked up would have been either POTA weekly #1 from Marvel UK or Mego's Cornelius, so I'd have been around 9 years old.
Though I'm not sure if I'd have seen the first episode of the TV series or not at this point.
I do remember seeing the trailers for the show on TV and this was the first time I was aware of POTA.
( I have a vague memory of seeing the Battle movie poster on the tube in London when I was on holiday visiting family but not sure if this is a "false" memory or not)
Best,Graham.

My first was issue
#27 of the British weekly comic back in 1975. After that I soon picked up
all the back issues from a second hand book stall at the Bury markets, all
except issue 1. I never found a copy of that until I moved out here

I had seen Escape
in 1971 at the Friday night movies put on by the RAAF at a hostel they had
when I was living in Penang, Malaysia. I was 8 years old and it blew me
away but I knew nothing more about POTA until the comics and TV show came out in

Its interesting that the movie is now so old that
anyone under 50 could not have likely seen the original airing.
So my concern is 20 yrs from now POTA could be
totally unimportant to the first generation viewers
Do we have anyone on here that is over 50 ?
Amazing how few of us

My first was also a comic which i found at a newsagents outside Oldham market, dont remember the number but i bought it after seeing the advert for the forth coming t.v series , which blew
me away.
then i was lucky enough to go and see the live show in Rochdale, but it was a little while after before seeing the original film on T.V, this was late seventies.
I was just into my teens and me and my friends used to play planet of the apes every day , we made our own rifles and put on purple clothes and black jackets with the arms cut off!!
Happy days
Mark :)

Wow! When they said they blended some of the actors hair into
the wigs I thought they were just talking about using hair from the
haircuts in the wig making process. I didn't know they used Lou
Wagner's actual hair! It did seem very curly, but I didn't know
it
wasn't even a wig! I imagine that it was a lot cooler for him.

"Forrest Gump" and "Saving Ryan's Privates", was Tom Hank's go -to makeup guy; Lou Wagner, who played Lucius and returned as the busboy in "Conquest"; and Tom Burman, who was an
apprentice at the time and has since earned his stripes.
> No taping or pictures was allowed at the panel, nah! nah! nah!
> Anyway, they went over pretty common stuff but did it with flair. I liked how they imitated John Chambers' grumpiness. They talked about the challenge of the makeup task, Streipeke said it was the most
makeups ever at the time for one production. He was the head of the Fox makeup dept. but he still had to roll up his sleeves; he worked on the hair and wigs.
> They gave special props to the late Josephine Turner, who worked on the wigs. And of course they praised Franklin Schaffner for taking "the high road" and making a movie they knew was good but
didn't know would stay this accomplished. Wagner noted the social commentary, touchy in the '60's. They remembered the first day of developing the makeup, they found the original mask David Hedison wore in
"The Fly" and Chambers said to "throw it out." They needed all the makeup people they could find. Burman said they used everyone on "the list" and Wagner replied, "They had to create a
new list". Wagner remembered having to eat with chopsticks and that the first day on location, the real star, the makeup plane, hadn't arrived.
> Wagner and Langdon were in a band together in college yet he didn't recognize Wagner in the makeup (made a joke that Shelley Winters could hide under the makeup but he knew Wagner wasn't Shelley
Winters because he was slightly smaller).
> Someone asked about makeup they'd seen for a female gorilla and Langdon said the female gorillas were just tests, they weren't planned for the movie. Someone brought up Bill Blake and Streipeke
called him an "extraordinary makeup artist". Elaine Dietz from the TV show (the older sis in "The Good Seeds") was at the show selling her "Exorcist" wares and dropped in to say hi to the
panel.
> That's about all I recall, except they had a slideshow going during the panel and there were some cool pictures I hadn't seen. Don't know how to describe them, except like "Heston eating
lunch", "Zanuck on the publicity shot set", "an ape on Hollywood Blvd." , etc. Stuff I hadn't seen but maybe the "photo fiends" have.
> There were some other non-Ape, makeup related presentations, and a terrific display of creature makeup (including an awesome "Jaws"). They had Forry Ackerman's life mask when he was 26 and when
he was 90. The show was kind of geared to the budding makeup artists and horror fans, with a section on makeup materials to buy. There were horror celebs (the guy who played Jason, etc.)
> The hard sell of cons is depressing, and it's hard to even say hi to a celeb without feeling guilty for not buying something. So after the panel I left, because there was no one to hold me there. Though
I did get Streipeke and Dietz to sign my Eric Greene book, which is ready to be bronzed.

I always figured he was teaching Taylor a lesson. Taylor was acting
all high and mighty about how evil and terrible the apes were

which my parents bought me for Christmas when I was a kid.

Yeah, that's the Chambers birthday party.
Though a new edit I haven't seen.
If "Saving Ryan's Privates" didn't get an
Oscar nomination, it should have!

Not sure if this has been shared before, doesn't look familiar - Roddy and

...and
BTW Jeff, I'm pretty sure "Saving Ryan's Privates" didn't get an oscar

first POTA with Verne Langdon as moderator (he worked on the first in the
makeup lab); Dan Striepeke, he ran the Fox makeup dept. during the movies,
etc. Two Oscar noms for "Forrest Gump" and "Saving Ryan's Privates", was Tom
Hank's go -to makeup guy; Lou Wagner, who played Lucius and returned as the
busboy in "Conquest"; and Tom Burman, who was an apprentice at the time and
has since earned his stripes. > No taping or pictures was allowed at the
panel, nah! nah! nah! > Anyway, they went over pretty common stuff but
did it with flair. I liked how they imitated John Chambers' grumpiness. They
talked about the challenge of the makeup task, Streipeke said it was the most
makeups ever at the time for one production. He was the head of the Fox makeup
dept. but he still had to roll up his sleeves; he worked on the hair and wigs.
> They gave special props to the late Josephine Turner, who worked on
the wigs. And of course they praised Franklin Schaffner for taking "the high
road" and making a movie they knew was good but didn't know would stay this
accomplished. Wagner noted the social commentary, touchy in the '60's. They
remembered the first day of developing the makeup, they found the original
mask David Hedison wore in "The Fly" and Chambers said to "throw it out." They
needed all the makeup people they could find. Burman said they used everyone
on "the list" and Wagner replied, "They had to create a new list". Wagner
remembered having to eat with chopsticks and that the first day on location,
the real star, the makeup plane, hadn't arrived. > Wagner and Langdon
were in a band together in college yet he didn't recognize Wagner in the
makeup (made a joke that Shelley Winters could hide under the makeup but he
knew Wagner wasn't Shelley Winters because he was slightly smaller). >
Someone asked about makeup they'd seen for a female gorilla and Langdon said
the female gorillas were just tests, they weren't planned for the movie.
Someone brought up Bill Blake and Streipeke called him an "extraordinary
makeup artist". Elaine Dietz from the TV show (the older sis in "The Good
Seeds") was at the show selling her "Exorcist" wares and dropped in to say hi
to the panel. > That's about all I recall, except they had a slideshow
going during the panel and there were some cool pictures I hadn't seen. Don't
know how to describe them, except like "Heston eating lunch", "Zanuck on the
publicity shot set", "an ape on Hollywood Blvd." , etc. Stuff I hadn't seen
but maybe the "photo fiends" have. > There were some other non-Ape,
makeup related presentations, and a terrific display of creature makeup
(including an awesome "Jaws"). They had Forry Ackerman's life mask when he was
26 and when he was 90. The show was kind of geared to the budding makeup
artists and horror fans, with a section on makeup materials to buy. There were
horror celebs (the guy who played Jason, etc.) > The hard sell of cons
is depressing, and it's hard to even say hi to a celeb without feeling guilty
for not buying something. So after the panel I left, because there was no one
to hold me there. Though I did get Streipeke and Dietz to sign my Eric Greene
book, which is ready to be bronzed. > That's about it from

"A scene from Pierre

Is that "PG-33" some kind of rating?
the seller says only that it was hanging in a "headshop

It has creases from when originally folded...squares are 7" by 8"
Thought maybe it was pulled from a magazine but there are no signs of staple holes....
Artwork is
definitely Heston and apes from the chase scenes but Nova
doesn't look like Linda and I've never seen her in that pose before....
anyone have any ideas?

It looks like News Corp has a replacement for
Peter Chernin, who retires at the end of the month. Basically, this person is
the # 2 man behind Rupert Murdoch. And that person is...
Tim Burton. No, it's Chasey Carey, who was
running DirecTV for News Corp. What does this have to do with anything? Nothing
really, except that as News Corp. goes, so goes POTA.
The main difference seems to be that while
Chernin used to run Fox and was still very involved when as # 2, Carey will
be more hands off when it comes to movies. So Rothman and Co. can continue to
ruin movies without interference.
Apparently Rupe's kids are not ready (or
willing) to begin their ascent to the top, so Carey will be around for a while.
He might still be there 3 "Caesar" sequels from now.

Tickled apes yield laughter
clue
New research has given credence to the idea
that laughter evolved in a common ancestor of the great apes and
humans. Researchers tickled 22 young apes and three humans and acoustically
analysed the laughing sounds that resulted. Though the vocalisations varied,
the team found that the patterns of changes fit with evolutionary splits in the
human and ape family tree. The research in Current Biology also suggests that
gorillas and bonobos have some control over their breathing. Primate
researchers have long guessed that many of the social behaviours that are seen
in humans have a basis in our primate lineage. Studies have noted that
vocalisations that some apes make while being tickled are similar to those made
when they are playing, and acoustically they share some characteristics with
human laughter.

Kill Bill and Kung Fu star David Carradine has been found
dead in a Bangkok hotel room on Thursday. Thai police told the BBC a hotel

Kung Fu star Carradine found
dead
Kill Bill and Kung Fu star David Carradine has
been found dead in a Bangkok hotel room on Thursday. Thai police
told the BBC a hotel maid found the 72-year-old naked in a wardrobe
with a cord around his neck and other parts of his body. The US
star was in Thailand filming his latest film, Stretch, according to
his personal manager Chuck Binder. Mr Binder said the news was
"shocking", adding: "He was full of life, always wanting to work... a
great person." Police said the actor's body was found in a suite at
the 5-star Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel.

Ape Chronicles #45 is designed and ready to
ship
Due to new internet technology and marketing I am
trying out a few different formats
Each has their pro's and con's and various
prices
It is has been suggested we go to color cover
artwork so I am doing that now for all 3 formats
The Old Fashioned Way
For 18 years now I have printed them as cheaply as
I can - regular paper, regular xerox format
$9.99 includes shipping for the regular printed
paper version - sent to you directly from me
$7.99 for a PDF version of the entire book and
is emailed to you immediately from me (cheapest and fastest if you don't mind
reading it on your computer)
The new way
I am working on selling through Amazon.com but
until that is set up the best way to sell is through Lulu.
So the new issue is now professionally
printed!
Printed: 56 pages, 8.5" x 11", perfect
binding, white interior paper (60# weight), black and white interior ink, white
exterior paper (100# weight), full-color exterior ink
It can be ordered here at this link
$13.99 plus shipping if you order directly through
Lulu at this link
If you are patient you can order copies of the
professionally printed copy directly from me as I can give you a better
price
The only catch is that I have to order them from
Lulu and then they are mailed to me and then I mail to you
My actual cost to order them in wholesale is $9.99
each
so to break even I would need to charge you $9.99
plus shipping to mail you a copy
At this point there is no way to print them cheaper
and have them shipped
But I'm open to suggestions
I do take paypal as well as international money
orders, personal checks, cash Paypal address = evelynstocki@... <.html <.html

And it gets
worse:
Bangkok -- The body of American actor David Carradine, best known for
the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu," was found in a hotel room closet with a rope tied
to his neck and genitals, and his death may have been caused by accidental
suffocation, Thai police said today. The 72-year-old actor's body was
discovered Thursday in his luxury suite at Bangkok's Swissotel Nai Lert Park
Hotel. Police initially said they suspected suicide, though Carradine's
associates had questioned that theory. Police Lt. Gen. Worapong Chewprecha
told reporters that Carradine was found with a rope tied around his genitals and
another rope around his neck. "The two ropes were tied together," he said.
"It is unclear whether he committed suicide or not or he died of suffocation or
heart failure."

I have to agree strongly with Neil.
There are a few gems amongst the Adventure
comics, but overall they did not do enough to balance out an overall good
impression.
On the contrary they were just BAD.
The art didn’t help, but most of all
it was the soul that was lacking.
The stories were so bad, and they were
just nothing to do with POTA except a few bad and silly tie-ins. The
stories could have made a difference – if they were any good I could have
asked Neil to re-illustrate.
Actually that might be amusing – to give
Neil a written script for one of the issues and see what he comes up with!

Okay, what would
be the one POTA item that you have that you would never get rid of and why not?
It may not be the
most expensive or rare thing you have it may be because it has some other
significance.
Myself I would
never part with my UK Fan Club badge, it may be showing signs of age and is a
bit rusted around the back edge but it means so much to me and reminds me so
much of those 'olden days' when it was all happening POTA wise that it would be
the last thing I would let go.

Again the durability of these plastics lend to the rarity of
survivors.
All these inflatibles are BIG dollars and hard to

I collected cars for many years and I
would always find ones that I would never let go.
Then someone would offer the right price
and BANG! gone!
Then someone would offer the WRONG price
but I was desperate and BANG! gone!
I said the same of my POTA collection and decided
I’d just but bigger houses with better display cabinets and a large room
for my drum kit with Ape Mania mannequins and costumes etc.
Same thing happened!
That’s my honest answer – it’s
all for sale.
Anyone who says theirs is not has just
never hit times hard enough.

Kung Fu star Carradine found
dead
Kill Bill and Kung Fu star
David Carradine has been found dead in a Bangkok hotel
room on Thursday. Thai police told the BBC a hotel maid found the
72-year-old naked in a wardrobe with a cord around his neck and other parts of
his body. The US star was in Thailand
filming his latest film, Stretch, according to his personal manager Chuck
Binder. Mr Binder said the news was "shocking", adding: "He was full of
life, always wanting to work... a great person." Police said the actor's
body was found in a suite at the 5-star Swissotel
Nai Lert Park
hotel.
Not just the POTA actors going
these days, seems like almost everyone from my childhood TV watching days is
dead or dying!

I think Carradine had some help.
Especially if it's true the rope went
from his hands behind his back around
his neck and to his privates. I'd say if
he was alone he was getting awfully creative.

good question ? my favourite item that i wont be getting rid of is my original background gorilla outfit from beneath planet of the apes from western costumes.
There are a few about but they are getting more expensive to buy .
But the reason i wont sell when i was a kid couldn't afford to buy much from planet of the apes , but we used to dress up and play pota on the fields with make do clothing and wooden shaped rifles.
So its not just the fact that it's screen worn but memory's also.

No not yet, Neil can send me stuff
as soon as he is done
Well it's not quite done yet but
it won't be long before it is finished. I've actually gone back to doing this
one like Beware the Beast, pencilling and inking it by hand, not just using
the computer to 'ink' the pencils as I have done on recent
strips.
