I will have to treat myself and watch the movie again, Rory. I haven't seen it for a few months.
It would be cool to sculpt my own appliances...just don't have the time at the moment...so Apemania's Zira (thank goodness it fits my face so nicely!) will have to do...I am threatening to sleep in the
makeup because Halloween falls on a Saturday...I won't have the energy to go ape out on Friday and then Saturday, too...so I'm confused as to what to do. I'm sure I will be relegated to the couch...or
maybe I'll relegate my husband to the couch! That's a thought!!
I still have to work on my boys' gorilla pullovers. At least I bought the hair and a cheap wig....and Apemania provided me with the foam latex kid-sized gorilla appliances, so 25% of the work is done. I will
really have to get cracking on this. Every time I think about the project, I get butterflies in my stomach simply because I have not started it yet and Halloween is looming. My boys have to look spectacular that day
because they have to represent!!
I have been busy with other personal projects. Here is one I am currently highly involved in, non-Planet of the Apes. I have been a member at this particular forum since April 2009, but never posted. It's
mostly a boy's club, full of military stuff. I was flushed out of lurking because of some ape projects recently posted there.

You know, I never noticed it before, but watching PLANET the other day I finally took notice that Lucius has hair growing under his chin that
Cornelius doesn't have. I guess Lucius did go in for fads.

These are everywhere in
Australia !
The BABY MILO range is now affordable (I’m
guessing they are pirate versions of the Baby Milo range) and my kids are actually
wearing POTA T Shirts and jackets!
It’s very cool.
Do you see many in the
US ?

Once again, Fox has enlisted top drawer talent for
their sci-fi offerings. They've got Robert Rodriguez to produce a new
"Predator", they've got Ridley Scott in his first sci-fi outing in almost 30
years producing (directing?) a prequel to his classic "Alien", and now it's
been announced that David Cronenberg is going to write (direct?) a new version
of "The Fly". His 1986 remake of that famed story didn't bug me, it's one of my
favorite movies.
Again I ask, what does this mean for Fox's
suspiciously silent "Apes" redo? Are we about to hear of the involvement of a
big name? Clint Eastwood's "Planet of the Apes", with Hillary Swank as Nova and
Morgan Freeman as Dr. Zauis?

Well Jeff I hope you are right.
I can’t see Clint getting involved
but I hope we get some big names (well, I guess we did that with
Burton ’s!) and this
time they get a great script and are directed properly without too much FOX
interference.

to "Fly" again
Once again, Fox has enlisted top drawer talent for their
sci-fi offerings. They've got Robert Rodriguez to produce a new
"Predator", they've got Ridley Scott in his first sci-fi outing in
almost 30 years producing (directing?) a prequel to his classic "Alien",
and now it's been announced that David Cronenberg is going to write (direct?) a
new version of "The Fly". His 1986 remake of that famed story didn't
bug me, it's one of my favorite movies.
Again I ask, what does this mean for Fox's
suspiciously silent "Apes" redo? Are we about to hear of the
involvement of a big name? Clint Eastwood's "Planet of the Apes",
with Hillary Swank as Nova and Morgan Freeman as Dr. Zauis?

The first time I ever saw the original POTA
in a theater was in 1990 on a double bill with Cronie's "Fly". Maybe my 2
favorite science-fiction movies, plus they have inverted release dates: 1968 and
1986.

I couldn't find any background discussion so assume it was received
like this. Are they denying they sent it out in that condition or that
it could have happened during shipping?
Is there any way you can glue the seam together? A patch on the inside
to hold the two outer edges together? You're good at this kind of
stuff so I'm sure you can think of something you can do to fix it
yourself.

site (it doesn't even say that it has 5 discs and includes all the
movies). I sent a inquiry to them pointing out the US version link and
how it has a lot more info and asking if they would add a little more
to the description. I got back a reply that they sometimes do not add
all the info and that they won't do it now, at lest not right away.
But they also said that the picture should be accurate and it is
obviously the 40th with the book. They also said that the return
policy would allow me to return it if turned out not to be what I
wanted. So I buckled and put in the order yesterday.
I can't see it being anything other than the one with the book. But if
you want, I can confirm once I get it. Delivery estimate is 15-20 Oct.

That’s the trap eh?
You can’t just get a BR player – you need to get a TV too.
I nearly got a STANDARD definition PLASMA
too and that would have been a mistake!
Make sure you get a true HD screen.
It’s an investment but when you see
the difference you’ll never regret a cent you spend.

Good question. I've had a Dell XPS
with a blue ray player for over a
year but have yet to watch a BR on it.
But I'm also at the point where I'm shopping for a big new TV/HT and
BR player. I initially said that I would purchase an OPPO BR player.
But with the recent price drop of PS3's to ~$300 (CDN), I'm now
considering that as option. I know it won't be as good as the OPPO,
but damn, I get the PS3 gaming and other benefits as well.

You’re talking to RORY about
HONOUR? That’s your first mistake…. ;)
I asked an Aussie kid to use
“honour” in a sentence and he came up with “I walked into mum
and dad’s bedroom and dad was honour”. TRUE!

Rory, I am so livid with Hot Toys right

If they do not replace this vest, that means they have no honor. This

But they also said that the picture should be accurate and it is

I hope "alot" of humans buy this. You know,
it's been twelve years
since Varese Sarabande released the complete score to PLANET on CD.
Since then there's been technology that can make those old recordings
sound even better. I was hoping there'd be a 40th anniversary
re-release of the original score with such an improvement (and a new
booklet with a better text, fewer flopped pictures, and an original
American poster cover!). Maybe if this sells well,
Varese will
consider it.

I'm still waiting for Hot Toys. I just sent them a tirade of insults. Maybe I should have gone to the seller directly, but I was looking at the tear and it could not have happened
during shipment. The gorilla was hogtied by a thousand twist ties--no way the tear would have resulted from shipment, and in no way can I find fault with the seller. I also sent the seller an e-mail via their
website, to notify them of the situation, as was suggested by Shit Toys. Oops...Hot Toys.

.htmlI actually listen to them from time to time. But instead of playing the
CDs, I ripped my entire collection of CDs to high sample rate MP3's and
stuck them all on my home and works computers and now listen to them as
I work. I find that I listen to Beneath more than the others which
surprises myself. The 'March' usually what gets me thinking about it to
start.
As for getting the new Beneath, I may hold out a while. The Beneath
track was always the one that had the highest prices on Ebay but I
patiently waited and eventually got it for about $15. I've now got them
all, including 3 versions POTA and even the Escape bootleg.

Has anyone noticed how the location change between the films actual adds to Virgil's 'multi-lane highway' theory aka our 'altered future' theory? The first two films are
in New York, and the later ones are in LA...and so's the bomb. I can't see the mutants carting it all the way accross the country to the other coast. I think it points to a different future, whether or not the
situation is the same, with mute humans and dominant apes, or human/ape peace or whatever.

I'm not going cheap. I'm looking to buy a high end, 55in (or more) unit.
Looking at $5k+ for the TV alone, not to mention the HT sound system,
and the BR of course. This is the carrot at the end of the stick
scenario as I worked on finishing my basement for over 2 years. Did
everything from A-Z myself. So the bundle of $$$ I saved not contracting
it out I can now plunk on my 'dream' Home Theater setup.
And I also get another room to display all that POTA stuff I've
collected over the years. Nothing as complete as Tim's room and all the
other fancy POTA rooms some of you others have, but it'll be a nice one
nonetheless. I'll also have a hobby corner setup so that I can finally
get to work on assembling those Ape scale models.
But I'm getting ahead of myself as there is not an iota of furniture in
any of the rooms now. It's tough even finding time to shop for any of
this stuff. If I'm lucky I'll have most of it all bought by the time the
holidays roll around.

I like to interpret it that way – to
give it a valuable reason for happening – but really I think it was
sloppiness.
I think you have Dehn, the scriptwriters
and the Directors all having their own versions of whether it’s an
eternal repetitive loop that will never change at all or not, and I think even
they knew the best way to keep having room for sequels is to never make that
final decision!
Even Dehn’s quote “it’s
all like a big circle” can be interpreted more ways than one.
Oh boy I can see people running to their
rooms and locking their computers to avoid more timelines conversations, but if
there’s really 600+ POTA fans on the POTA group I’d
love
to hear their comments! ;)

Precisely my point about the left hand not
knowing what the right hand was doing – as we all see the final result is
nothing like this (and the mere constraint of budget is probably the actual
reason – not any creative differences).

I would be surprised if more than a
handful of people – even die hard POTA fans - (other than Rory obviously)
would sit back, relax, grab a beer and put on a Planet of the Apes soundtrack
more than maybe once or twice.
The replies and responses I have received
back what I say – that most people would put on a Beatles track or some
Led Zep, Black Sabbath or even Kylie Minogue WELL before they would put on a
POTA soundtrack.
So really, not a terribly odd comment.
And how you could logically follow calling my comment odd (of course, not
offensively!) with asking have I never listened to music before (was that
sarcasm or in your world are there people who have never listened to music
before?) is beyond me – unless you were just stirring the pot (which I
suspect).

I've been listening to that score since I was eight years old. I've
listened to it hundreds of times and can listen to it almost anytime.
I don't play it as often as I used to, but every few months I put it

It’s not about being ignorant Rory – I’m
quite correct when I say it’s odd to actually listen very much to the
soundtrack.
Nowhere have I judged anyone for this, so
your insults are quite misplaced and unnecessary (but at the same time so very
Rory).
So you really think there’s hundreds and
thousands of Goldsmith fans? So the CD should sell in the hundreds of
thousands?

I think a certain Aussie dude is a little ignorant of just how many
fans there are of the composers of these scores. The Jerry Goldsmith
fans are hundreds of thousands (maybe more) and I'll bet you this
ESCAPE CD sells well.
By the way, the original LP of PLANET was NEVER out of press until the
company finally stopped pressing LPs, and it then went to cassette,
then CD. There are several CD editions of Goldsmith's original alone,
and selections from the score are now often played at concerts around
the world!
So, to you down under I have only one thing to say......
GOLDSMITH FOREVER!!!!! !!

When POTA first hit theaters a large part of the success was because
nobody had seen anything like it in terms of costume and makeup. It
was ground breaking realism as much as it was a good story. And the
third component of that success was the sound score. People forget
that it too was like nothing that had come before it (well as a movie
score anyway). Some people don't appreciate that it won the academy
award for score that year and what an achievement that was.
As a kid, the emphasis for me was the 'look' of the movie. But as I
got older, I quickly learned to appreciate the score just as much.

Sorry but I just
find it staggering that anyone would repeatedly listen to Apes soundtracks,
especially to relax to!
I know there are a
lot of die hard fans out there and I don't wish to offend any of you but for the
life of me I can not find it normal to be so obsessed that you would listen to
this stuff repeatedly.
Like I said
before, if I am relaxing with or without a few brews or even drawing and
painting I could not listen to POTA music.
As the years go by
I find I am no where near as obsessed with POTA as I once was and
after being a member of these groups for so long I think that is actually a good
thing!

It’s not about being
ignorant Rory – I’m quite correct when I say it’s odd to actually listen very
much to the soundtrack.
Nowhere have I judged
anyone for this, so your insults are quite misplaced and unnecessary (but at
the same time so very Rory).
So you really think
there’s hundreds and thousands of Goldsmith fans? So the CD should sell
in the hundreds of thousands?

I
think a certain Aussie dude is a little ignorant of just how many fans
there are of the composers of these scores. The Jerry Goldsmith fans are
hundreds of thousands (maybe more) and I'll bet you this ESCAPE CD sells
well.
By the way, the original LP of PLANET was NEVER out of press
until the company finally stopped pressing LPs, and it then went to
cassette, then CD. There are several CD editions of Goldsmith's original
alone, and selections from the score are now often played at concerts
around the world!
So, to you down under I have only one thing to

GOLDSMITH FOREVER!!!!! !!

put on a POTA soundtrack.
So really, not a

I
hope "alot" of humans buy this. You know, it's been twelve
years
since Varese Sarabande released the complete score to PLANET on
CD.
Since then there's been technology that can make those old
recordings
sound even better. I was hoping there'd be a 40th

re-release of the original score with such an improvement
(and a new

Thankfully the POTA group seems to be
attracting more posts (in volume) this month and we can soon live our dream and
shut this group down and get our fix from there.
I guess it all depends how many of these
posts where Rory and this imaginary dude are permitted to personally attack me,
and if they moderate my responses.
Here’s hoping they are not still too

I am not belittling you for this, or anyone, just asking a

The responses have been overall that MOST people would

I, for one, do listen to the soundtracks, not so much because I'm obsessed with Planet of the Apes, but because I am a huge fan of the music itself. I also own many other albums of soundtrack music which I
listen to often, including the six CD compilation set of Goldsmith's best from Fox.
In my opinion, a soundtrack score is the modern equivalent of classical music in that it is meant to suggest action and evoke emotional responses on its own, without the need for specific accompanying images. That
is why the music from Planet of the Apes works when re-used in Conquest. Although there are a couple of calmer tracks, most of the Apes music suggests panic, confusion, and oppression, because that's what
the movies were about. It's not meant to be soothing music that you can easily ignore while you relax and do other things.

I like to interpret
it that way – to give it a valuable reason for happening – but really I think
it was sloppiness.
I think you have
Dehn, the scriptwriters and the Directors all having their own versions of
whether itÂ’s an eternal repetitive loop that will never change at all or not,
and I think even they knew the best way to keep having room for sequels is to
never make that final decision!
Even DehnÂ’s quote
“it’s all like a big circle” can be interpreted more ways than
one.
Oh boy I can see
people running to their rooms and locking their computers to avoid more
timelines conversations, but if thereÂ’s really 600+ POTA fans on the POTA
group IÂ’d love
to hear their
comments! ;)

the later ones are in LA...and so's the bomb. I can't see the mutants carting
it all the way accross the country to the other coast. I think it points to a
different future, whether or not the situation is the same, with mute humans

I would buy this soundtrack and sit back, relax and listen to this soundtrack while reading the script.

I would be surprised if more than a
handful of people – even die hard POTA fans - (other than Rory obviously)
would sit back, relax, grab a beer and put on a Planet of the Apes soundtrack
more than maybe once or twice.
The re
plies and responses I have received
back what I say – that most people would put on a Beatles track or some
Led Zep, Black Sabbath or even Kylie Minogue WELL before they would put on a
POTA soundtrack.
So really, not a terribly odd comment.
And how you could logically follow calling my comment odd (of course, not
offensively! ) with asking have I never listened to music before (was that
sarcasm or in your world are there people who have never listened to music
before?) is beyond me – unless you were just stirring the pot (which I
suspect).
Did I offend you?

Maybe I don't. The way I read it, you're implying that you find it
unusual that people would listen to a film score on its own without the movie
to accompany it. Did you mean something else? Or did you only reply to mock me,
right down to mimicking the way I "sign" my mail? Did I offend you
somehow?

the soundtrack CD?
I'll but it, but buggered if I'd bother PLAYING it!
Well, maybe ONCE…
What images go through peoples' heads when they DO plat the
soundtrack?

I hope
"alot" of humans buy this. You know, it's been twelve years
since Varese Sarabande released the complete score to PLANET on CD.
Since then there's been technology that can make those old recordings
sound even better. I was hoping there'd be a 40th anniversary
re-release of the original score with such an improvement (and a new
booklet with a better text, fewer flopped pictures, and an original
American poster cover!). Maybe if this sells well, Varese will
consider it.

I am in no way offended & I'm very proud to be one of the "odd" people who listen to movie soundtracks.... but I am also someone who collects Power Book & Record sets,
Soundtrack albums, Story records, Muppet albums, Monster albums etc etc & still get excited when certain favorites turn up durning random play on my ipod. My Supervisor rode with me a few days ago & had to know
"what the hell is this?" when the track "the Mystic Dies" from the "Dark Crystal" motion picture was playing. I don't care. I'm off in my own little world & these things still make
me happy.

Count me among those who like to listen to soundtrack albums. Mostly I listen to them on my commute, but I've been known to play them while working around the house, or at the office.

Oh yeah...forgot to say that Ursus was not tied down...he was able to jump out of the box and into my arms without me having to untie him. Keep your fingers and prehensile toes crossed guys so that I can lay down
my fighting sword. I am hoping that the last tirade that I spewed forth is going to knock some sense into Hot Toys. All I want is just an unripped gorilla vest. Now is that too much to ask for?
What is really pissy is that I purchased this December 25 (as a present for myself)...and didn't get the Captain until July 2009. Well, that's bloody way over the 30-day return policy crap they are trying

Really? My Ursus didn't have a twist tie on him. Not one. I was really happy with the way he was packaged. Very secure without going overboard with ties, tape, etc. I think my only
complaint is that with the helmet off he has that same weird huge bompadore that the DVD Caesar head has... but that's fixed as soon as the helmet goes on. Luckily, I found no tears or other defects. Sorry you of
all people (someone who is all about the action figures)got the short end of the stick on this one.

These days I find
I have become one of those very people who does find it crazy that people do
watch the movies over and over again. I know I can't do it
anymore.
And the point
about the POTA soundtracks (not all other soundtracks mind) I was trying to make
was that it is not the sort of music that I think many people would enjoy
listening to. Obviously the 'obsessed' POTA fans will listen to them
repeatedly but I can't, I enjoy other music too much I
suppose.

I would be surprised if more than a
handful of people – even die hard POTA fans - (other than Rory obviously) would
sit back, relax, grab a beer and put on a Planet of the Apes soundtrack more
than maybe once or twice.
The re plies and responses I have received
back what I say – that most people would put on a Beatles track or some Led
Zep, Black Sabbath or even Kylie Minogue WELL before they would put on a POTA
soundtrack.
So really, not a terribly odd
comment. And how you could logically follow calling my comment odd (of
course, not offensively! ) with asking have I never listened to music
before (was that sarcasm or in your world are there people who have never
listened to music before?) is beyond me – unless you were just stirring the pot

unusual that people would listen to a film score on its own without the movie
to accompany it. Did you mean something else? Or did you only reply to mock me,

I hope "alot" of humans buy this. You know, it's been twelve
years
since Varese Sarabande released the complete score to PLANET on CD.

That was the golden age of the soundtrack, before
there was home video. Like taping movies off TV with a cassette recorder. I
could see listening to soundtracks back then when that was all there was. They even
used to have dialogue from the movies on them.

to all my music as background when working at home or on the job. I'm
not the type of person who pulls up a chair and drink and then just
sits and listens to music. I do have a few other filmscores but not
many. The one score music I play quite often is the music of Ennio
Morricone.
I don't even listen to music in the car anymore. I got fed up of the
choice of local radio and am now a dedicated podcast listener for
daily commutes and long trips as well. (Almost exclusive "Comic Geek

James,
I think people are missing the point.
I’m not bickering, I’m discussing (and I’ve generated about
60 responses for the group – including drawing out 5 or 6 posts from
people who usually sit back and let others do all the “discussing”).
It’s not just the soundtracks, it a
whole variety of things.
I also buy the POTA dollies but I don’t
play with them.
Jess does, Hunter does (well, he opens the
box and poses them anyway) but I don’t – I just buy them and store
them until I have a place for them. I don’t say I’m better
than them, I just say I don’t play with the dollies.
I buy the coloring books and pencils, but
I don’t join the dots and use the pencils to color them in.
I’ll buy the ESCAPE soundtrack but
it will get the original obligatory listening to, then it will be far too
difficult for me to choose it over the Beatles or the Sex Pistols (or a
soundtrack of Pink Floyd the Wall or The Who’s Tommy!). Obviously
there are those who will play POTA soundtracks over and over again and good for
them.
Anyone claiming I am telling people they
are wrong if they choose to listen to the soundtracks is putting words in my
mouth – I have not said or suggested this.
Nevertheless, I am astounded at the number
of people (other than Rory who we all know is a die hard Goldsmith fan) who
have said they do listen to POTA soundtracks regularly. More than I originally
thought for sure.
I 100% agree the release of ESCAPE is to
be celebrated – it also means all the movies are now officially
represented on CD.

I think this all comes down to a matter of personal taste. For the most
part I don't care for Country or Rap music, but both have millions of fans who
do. Just because I don't enjoy Country or Rap are the millions of fans who
do enjoy those types of music wrong? No, of course not. They just have
different taste than me.
I like Rock, Jazz, Classical and, yes, soundtracks. Just as I wouldn't
tell a Country or Rap fans that they are wrong for liking Country or Rap; I
wouldn't want anyone telling me that I was wrong for liking what I like,
including soundtracks.
Personally, I think the release of Escape's soundtrack is a good thing
for both POTA & Jerry Goldsmith fans. Plus
Varese is a successful company that
seems to know what it is doing. So instead of bickering about this, we
should be celebrating it instead.

Yeah I know you have Rory – how many others do the same is my question (and my
confirmed suspicion is "not many").
I am not belittling you for this, or anyone, just asking a question.
The responses have been overall that MOST people would rarely listen to the soundtrack and – particularly now they have the Blu-Ray – they would much rather
watch the movie.
The other relevant, interesting thing that's developed is that "a lot" (sic) of people also do POTA related creative stuff listening to the CDs.
Then of course there's one guy trying to make it all personal but I'm not even sure he's a real person so…you know….whatever!

I, for one, do listen to the soundtracks, not so much because I'm
obsessed with Planet of the Apes, but because I am a huge fan of the music
itself. I also own many other albums of soundtrack music which I listen to
often, including the six CD compilation set of Goldsmith's best from Fox.
In my opinion, a soundtrack score is the modern equivalent of classical
music in that it is meant to suggest action and evoke emotional responses on
its own, without the need for specific accompanying images. That is why the
music from Planet of the Apes works when re-used in
Conquest. Although there are a couple of calmer tracks, most of the Apes
music suggests panic, confusion, and oppression, because that's what the movies
were about. It's not meant to be soothing music that you can easily ignore
while you relax and do other things.

I'm a Beatles fanatic who even played bass in a Beatles cover band when I was younger, but there are times when I'd rather listen to other types of music. One reason is that it's almost impossible for me
to listen to a vocal song without focusing on the words.

James,
I think people are
missing the point. IÂ’m not bickering, IÂ’m discussing (and IÂ’ve generated
about 60 responses for the group – including drawing out 5 or 6 posts from
people who usually sit back and let others do all the
“discussing”).
ItÂ’s not just the
soundtracks, it a whole variety of things.
I also buy the POTA
dollies but I donÂ’t play with them.
Jess does, Hunter
does (well, he opens the box and poses them anyway) but I don’t – I just buy
them and store them until I have a place for them. I donÂ’t say IÂ’m
better than them, I just say I donÂ’t play with the
dollies.
I buy the coloring
books and pencils, but I donÂ’t join the dots and use the pencils to color them
in.
IÂ’ll buy the ESCAPE
soundtrack but it will get the original obligatory listening to, then it will
be far too difficult for me to choose it over the Beatles or the Sex Pistols
(or a soundtrack of Pink Floyd the Wall or The WhoÂ’s Tommy!). Obviously
there are those who will play POTA soundtracks over and over again and good
for them.
Anyone claiming I am
telling people they are wrong if they choose to listen to the soundtracks is
putting words in my mouth – I have not said or suggested
this.
Nevertheless, I am
astounded at the number of people (other than Rory who we all know is a die
hard Goldsmith fan) who have said they do listen to POTA soundtracks
regularly. More than I originally thought for
sure.
I 100% agree the
release of ESCAPE is to be celebrated – it also means all the movies are now
officially represented on CD.

Country or Rap are the millions of fans who do enjoy those types of music
wrong? No, of course not. They just have different taste than me.
I like Rock, Jazz, Classical and,
yes, soundtracks. Just as I wouldn't tell a Country or Rap fans that they are
wrong for liking Country or Rap; I wouldn't want anyone telling me that I was
wrong for liking what I like, including soundtracks.
Personally, I think the release of
Escape's soundtrack is a good thing for both POTA & Jerry Goldsmith fans.
Plus Varese is a successful company that seems to
know what it is doing. So instead of bickering about this, we should be
celebrating it instead.

.htmlSo who says we don't listen to Beatles as well? And Floyd. And all the
rest of great bands, musicians, and singers.
I'm also a big Beatles fan and listen to them all the time. In the day,
I had all the albums and even now have most of the CDs.
I listen to 'regular' music more often, but that doesn't mean I don't
listen to POTA as well.
I think it's just a matter of everyone having different tastes when it
comes to these things and some people have greater acceptance to
enjoying something like a POTA soundtrack. I think everyone can list at
least one type of music that they don't like. Opera music makes me
scream like a banshee. Some Country music comes pretty darn close. But I
can listen to Johnny Cash anytime. Go figure?
Oh, and when it comes to soundtracks, I should add that I also love most
of the CDs from Quentin Tarantino movies. They're all an assortment of
great old songs, and 'oddities' for lack of a better word. And I get to
hear the "Ezekial 25:17" speech too. How cool is that?

obsessed with Planet of the Apes, but because I am a huge fan of the music

Certainly not Neil.....it all depends on the mood I'm in......I'll have a BEatles day or a zydeco day or dave brubek or cirque du soleil or the Police or the Doors......usually I mix and match as I
have an ipod shuffle......so sometimes I throw in several POTA tracks.....

I think you all
should! ;-)
I really am amazed
that so many of you would choose to listen to Apes soundtracks rather than say
the Beatles or Pink Floyd or whatever bands you may be into. Do you
all wake up and the first thing you think of is Planet of the Apes and then
constantly think about Apes all day? That's how it seems sometimes in these
discussions!
I think it's time
I quit because this obsessiveness certainly isn't healthy or
normal.

Jeff,
Is punishing Zira
anything like spanking your monkey?
Michael
They're called action
figures, sir, not "dollies".
I only play with them when
I undress Zira. She's a very naughty girl and she needs to be punished! If you
don't punish her she'll never learn her lesson.

James,
I think
people are missing the point. IÂ’m not bickering, IÂ’m discussing (and
I’ve generated about 60 responses for the group – including drawing out 5 or
6 posts from people who usually sit back and let others do all the
“discussing”).
ItÂ’s not
just the soundtracks, it a whole variety of
things.
I also buy
the POTA dollies but I donÂ’t play with them.
Jess does,
Hunter does (well, he opens the box and poses them anyway) but I don’t – I
just buy them and store them until I have a place for them. I donÂ’t
say IÂ’m better than them, I just say I donÂ’t play with the
dollies.
I buy the
coloring books and pencils, but I donÂ’t join the dots and use the pencils to
color them in.
IÂ’ll buy the
ESCAPE soundtrack but it will get the original obligatory listening to, then
it will be far too difficult for me to choose it over the Beatles or the Sex
Pistols (or a soundtrack of Pink Floyd the Wall or The WhoÂ’s Tommy!).
Obviously there are those who will play POTA soundtracks over and over again
and good for them.
Anyone
claiming I am telling people they are wrong if they choose to listen to the
soundtracks is putting words in my mouth – I have not said or suggested
this.
Nevertheless,
I am astounded at the number of people (other than Rory who we all know is a
die hard Goldsmith fan) who have said they do listen to POTA soundtracks
regularly. More than I originally thought for
sure.
I 100% agree
the release of ESCAPE is to be celebrated – it also means all the movies are
now officially represented on CD.

I think this all comes down to a
matter of personal taste. For the most part I don't care for Country or Rap
music, but both have millions of fans who do. Just because I
don't enjoy Country or Rap are the millions of fans who do enjoy those
types of music wrong? No, of course not. They just have different taste than
me.
I like Rock, Jazz, Classical
and, yes, soundtracks. Just as I wouldn't tell a Country or Rap fans that
they are wrong for liking Country or Rap; I wouldn't want anyone telling me
that I was wrong for liking what I like, including soundtracks.
Personally, I think the release
of Escape's soundtrack is a good thing for both POTA & Jerry Goldsmith
fans. Plus Varese is a
successful company that seems to know what it is doing. So instead of
bickering about this, we should be celebrating it instead.

Read it and weep, Zauis! The latest
celebrity on the fossil circuit is "Ardi" (Ardipithecus ramidus), who is at
least a million years older than the famous "Lucy" (named after the song "Lucy
in the Sky With Diamonds" - - there's your Beatles reference, Neil). Lucy was
the oldest known fossil and suggested that humans and apes shared a chimp
ancestor.
But Lucy, you've got some 'splainin' to
do...The much older Ardi shows many similarities to modern humans, suggesting
that instead of us branching off from apes, they branched off from us. We didn't
evolve from them, they evolved from us.
Yesss! I knew it! We're # 1!! (He high five's
the nearest human). I'd like to buy Ardi a drink but it could be
messy.

Oh hold up! Its not instead of. I mearly meant that sometimes the mood may strike me or most often, I am listening to Record LP's that I've transfered to mp3's on my ipod as
they come up on random. When I'm driving to work & the theme from "Escape From New York" comes on I won't change it & really enjoy it but that dosen't mean I'm skipping over Beatles tracks
looking for the next Planet of the Apes track.

*** You could also say it's amazing that (for example) anybody out there
would choose to listen to The Beatles "only" and not allow themselves to like
other artists... I don't think that's the case with you, but there are
more than a handful of obsessive people that only listen to their music and
nothing else... They wake up every day to Beatles CDs being played on their
alarm clocks, they get up, put on their John Lennon glasses and Beatles t-shirt,
go off to work where they think about the band all day and do their best to drop
song lyrics into their breakroom conversations... They drive home searching for
Ringo look-alikes on the street and spend their nights playing "The
Beatles-Guitar Hero" while surrounded by posters, bobble-head figures, and their
coveted life-sized store display of "The Fab 4". They want to get that tattoo,
but they don't want to be labelled as "obsessed" with the band...
Because there are people like the above that are obsessed with a band you
like, are you going to quit listening to them because of the overly enthused
fans? When is it too much when applied to musical acts you and the "crazys" both
enjoy, or do the rules not apply to music(ians)?
I can see not wanting to be lumped in with the few that go too far, but I
can't see not liking something anymore because of them... ***

When I clarified my original statement I
said I was talking about people who are sitting down having a brewskie or
whatever having a listen to music and go looking for a POTA soundtrack.
Without judging, I was thinking such a
person would be rare, and while there are more of these people than I thought –
there still are not so many.
Even using it as background music is
probably different to homing in on it to select….
It’s a shame some people wanted to
make it personal but you do get that eh?
