I'd also like to
know why only this group was targeted by the 'virus sender'. Things have never
got this low before.
Neil T. Foster
Is there a specific
reason nobody is posting on this group any more?
I mean we’ve had dry
spells but this is fucking ridiculous!
Is it the fear of
getting a virus because someone has posted they got
one?
You all do realize
you have to open attachments to get a virus right?
So what do people
think about Rich’s magnificent discovery – or am I really the only person here
who will comment?

I think it's fabulous!! I can't believe that there's still some magnificent gems to unearth after all these years.
But also...I have the flu. I'm sick of being sick. I hope I am better by Monday so I report back to the slavemines.

there is no need to drop the f-bomb. I am on about 20 of these groups and a quiet time is a godsend if you ask me. the other pota group is posting but its barely worth reading what they
say so at least here in the dg there is quality posting and what I think of as a COMFORTABLE silence.

i think you compete too much with the pota group and you think they are "winning" when there are more posts over there but thats not the case because the most of the discussion
there is rubbish, its LordT telling Jessica how cool and rebellious he is or Rory telling everyone how to think and what to believe and just technical silly talk that no fan cares about. the dg is outstandingly better
because when people post here it is interesting and worth reading and you have to say all the biggest ape stories break on the dg first.
Relax Mike its just a group.

Is there a specific reason nobody is posting on this group any more?
I mean we've had dry spells but this is fucking ridiculous!
Is it the fear of getting a virus because someone has posted they got one?
You all do realize you have to open attachments to get a virus right?
So what do people think about Rich's magnificent discovery – or am I really the only person here who will comment?

I think each group is different James but points well made.
As for the group being quiet ..I just think it naturally waxes and wanes.
Looking at the message history to see the number of posts
2007 was 4479 for the year
2008 was 2971
2009 is 6571 so far
...and if we have a quick look at the last three months (Oct, Nov, Dec)
2007 was 618
2008 was 1064 2009 is 740 so far with a couple of weeks to go.
So certainly there's been more posts this year than the previous two (Of-course that doesn't mean more discussion necessarily
)
The group just seems to be "breathing in again" I'm sure it'll "breath out again" soon.
Best,Graham.

I think a lot of things play into why people post or not.
The virus thing wouldn't have helped... the number of posts did dry up then looking at the history.
I'm sure most people rationally know you have to open the attachment to get a virus... but Chris' E-mail had been nicked so people may be just a little more cautious, quite
naturally.
I always read the messages off the home page and don't get them as E-mails so it's a bit different for me.
...but this also means some times a discussion can have been going on for awhile and of-course being in the UK means I seem to be about 8 or 9 hours behind every one else so often I
don't have any thing really substantive to say or add.
The Manga thread was a case in point beyond saying how "great it was" and "don't destroy the mags" didn't have any thing unique to add to the discussion.
As I posted, a lit bit ago, it does seem that the DG is pretty much in the same area as the last 3 years when it comes to the number of posts.
I always think it works as a group when it "moves naturally" (Prodded from time to time but not poked)
Best,Graham.

It was my understanding that Chris' E-mail address had been nicked and hence the message with the virus coming to the group but the group
hadn't been targeted as such ...but I could be wrong ...any one know how this all works?

I didn't even notice any slowdown really. But if there was I think part
of it may be the Xmas craziness setting in and partly the ebb and tide,
up and down effect Hilly mentioned.
I have not even had time to check out Rich's find on Hunter's site. I'd
rather have it a bit quiet now and then, than having tons of OT posts
that go on and on, like what's going on in the other group. I don't mind
the occasional off topic post, but when the OT traffic buries those that
are the intent of the group, that just turns me off. Right now they're
just slamming Kevin Smith. (OK, I LIKE Kevin Smith. Maybe that's why I'm
turned off).
Have you resolved the Word to PDF conversion problems? Have you tried it
on a few computers, or just one? I you need someone to try converting it
for you to see if it resolves the problem, let me know and I can give it
a shot.
Get well Jessica!

I know the other group works a certain way & they have their own personality & that's great. I try to be respectful & leave them to do what makes them happy.
But that's why I'm usually here. I'm just not into arguing over Kevin Smith,or fan created poster,or being facinated that Fox MOVIE STUDIO filmed multiple MOVIES on its OWN lot. The lot they have to FILM
MOVIES ON!
So when things die down a little here, just be thankful we're not just filling up posts for the sake of filling up post.

It’s all good Dario!
Neil’s useless ( J
) but I have worked out the intricacies of Microsoft Publisher
which converts perfectly.
I actually surpised Neil (and myself) with
how quickly I adapted (mainly because I have seen Neil champion through
PaintShop Pro and it’s similar).
I’ve forwarded to Moxy his story on
the WIKI - now entitled WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, ZABOING (Gni!) – but Moxy
does not have PUBLISHER so I’m going to just print and scan.
Jessica’s article is complete and
looks great.
Hilly’s article looks so good we
decided to do a full colour publication, and that’s when we decided to include
BEGINS and the back story.
Ty’s contributions are looking great
(there’s a lot of the stuff that WOULD have been in the GN like
alternative covers and the progression of covers from original sketch to final –
and some absolutely knockout stuff from Richard Pace who was the first choice before
Salgood Sam and he’s a brilliant artist).
Neil’s “BEGINS” is….well,
I’m biased but I reckon it’s worthy of professional publication (Ty
agrees and he’d know!). Also a selection of pin-ups by Neil.
Drew Gaska has now contributed a sketch of
the cover for CONSPIRACY (WOW!) and a pencil & then finished colour picture
of an unseen until now illustration by a new artist that nearly knocked me off
my chair when I saw it…
Drew is also interviewed and there’s
the comprtition for a CONSPIRACY set of the two posters (autographed & framed)
and the trading cards/dogtags.
It’s 40 pages (maybe now 44 –
YIKES!) and will cost $1,000 (or $1,100) to print 50.
This means to cut even we need to sell
each issue at $20US. So in other words we won’t cut even because
when you add postage, we lose. But we are offering issues for $20
including postage. I know this isn’t cheap but when you think about
the content and the fact that I’ll lose about $10-$20 on each issue
(depending on postage costs) it’s value for money.
Here’s hoping I get 50 sold.
Looks like they will be shipping around
mid January 2010.

It's all good Dario!
Neil's useless ( J
) but I have worked out the intricacies of Microsoft Publisher
which converts perfectly.
I actually surpised Neil (and myself) with
how quickly I adapted (mainly because I have seen Neil champion through
PaintShop Pro and it's similar).
I've forwarded to Moxy his story on
the WIKI - now entitled WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, ZABOING (Gni!) – but Moxy
does not have PUBLISHER so I'm going to just print and scan.
Jessica's article is complete and
looks great.
Hilly's article looks so good we
decided to do a full colour publication, and that's when we decided to include
BEGINS and the back story.
Ty's contributions are looking great
(there's a lot of the stuff that WOULD have been in the GN like
alternative covers and the progression of covers from original sketch to final –
and some absolutely knockout stuff from Richard Pace who was the first choice before
Salgood Sam and he's a brilliant artist).
Neil's "BEGINS" is….well,
I'm biased but I reckon it's worthy of professional publication (Ty
agrees and he'd know!). Also a selection of pin-ups by Neil.
Drew Gaska has now contributed a sketch of
the cover for CONSPIRACY (WOW!) and a pencil & then finished colour picture
of an unseen until now illustration by a new artist that nearly knocked me off
my chair when I saw it…
Drew is also interviewed and there's
the comprtition for a CONSPIRACY set of the two posters (autographed & framed)
and the trading cards/dogtags.
It's 40 pages (maybe now 44 –
YIKES!) and will cost $1,000 (or $1,100) to print 50.
This means to cut even we need to sell
each issue at $20US. So in other words we won't cut even because
when you add postage, we lose. But we are offering issues for $20
including postage. I know this isn't cheap but when you think about
the content and the fact that I'll lose about $10-$20 on each issue
(depending on postage costs) it's value for money.
Here's hoping I get 50 sold.
Looks like they will be shipping around

No idea.
One other thing,
is anyone else having trouble with yahoo groups photos?
For some reason I
can no longer display any thumbnails when I go to the photos section (on any
Yahoo group) or access the photos.
This has also
stuffed up the Home Page as the latest photo I uploaded doesn't display on the
HP (well for me anyway!)

Yeah, I forwarded the scans of FZP to Doug and asked if they sparked any memory, but they didn't. I also discussed the scans with the children of artist Sonny Trinidad since his name was
on the boards on which the artwork was mounted, but they both said he had no memory of having illustrated it. So we have a Marvel story written in Moench's style that he doesn't recall writing...and drawn in
Trinidad's style that he doesn't recall drawing. Quite a mystery. Hopefully, one of these days, the page with the writer/artist credits will pop up, and we can finally have a definitive answer.

very exciting stuff in it
when do you plan to have it shipped?
do you have to print 50 ? can you
do a "print them as needed" so you don't sit on any and tie up your money -
thats always worked better for me unless you get a huge
discount on printing 50 at a time as opposed to 10 or 20 etc.

Its all good
Dario!
Neils useless ( J
) but I have worked
out the intricacies of Microsoft Publisher which converts
perfectly.
I actually surpised
Neil (and myself) with how quickly I adapted (mainly because I have seen Neil
champion through PaintShop Pro and its similar).
Ive forwarded to Moxy
his story on the WIKI - now entitled WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, ZABOING (Gni!)
but Moxy does not have PUBLISHER so Im going to just print and
scan.
Jessicas article is
complete and looks great.
Hillys article looks
so good we decided to do a full colour publication, and thats when we decided
to include BEGINS and the back story.
Tys contributions are
looking great (theres a lot of the stuff that WOULD have been in the GN like
alternative covers and the progression of covers from original sketch to final
and some absolutely knockout stuff from Richard Pace who was the first choice
before Salgood Sam and hes a brilliant artist).
Neils BEGINS
is
.well, Im biased but I reckon its worthy of professional publication (Ty
agrees and hed know!). Also a selection of pin-ups by
Neil.
Drew Gaska has now
contributed a sketch of the cover for CONSPIRACY (WOW!) and a pencil & then
finished colour picture of an unseen until now illustration by a new artist that
nearly knocked me off my chair when I saw it
Drew is also
interviewed and theres the comprtition for a CONSPIRACY set of the two posters
(autographed & framed) and the trading
cards/dogtags.
Its 40 pages (maybe
now 44 YIKES!) and will cost $1,000 (or $1,100) to print
50.
This means to cut even
we need to sell each issue at $20US. So in other words we wont cut even
because when you add postage, we lose. But we are offering issues for $20
including postage. I know this isnt cheap but when you think about the
content and the fact that Ill lose about $10-$20 on each issue (depending on
postage costs) its value for money.
Heres hoping I get 50
sold.
Looks like they will be
shipping around mid January 2010.

It's on Feebay for only $9.00 after S/H. There's 10 of them available. I've never seen it go down this low in price.

It should ship January 14 2010.
We have to do 50 minimum and it’s
full colour so the price is good.
We’ll let you know about advertising
it when we get a bit more organized with that – thanks Terry.

when do you plan to have it shipped?
do you have to print 50 ? can you do a
"print them as needed" so you don't sit on any and tie up your
money - that’s always worked better for me unless
you get a huge discount on printing 50 at a time as opposed to 10 or 20
etc.
Let me know what I can do to help plug it on the website etc

Hey what the Forbidden Zine?
It’s all good Dario!
Neil’s useless ( J
) but I have worked out the intricacies of Microsoft Publisher
which converts perfectly.
I actually surpised Neil (and myself) with how quickly I
adapted (mainly because I have seen Neil champion through PaintShop Pro and
it’s similar).
I’ve forwarded to Moxy his story on the WIKI - now
entitled WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, WIKI, ZABOING (Gni!) – but Moxy does not have
PUBLISHER so I’m going to just print and scan.
Jessica’s article is complete and looks great.
Hilly’s article looks so good we decided to do a full
colour publication, and that’s when we decided to include BEGINS and the
back story.
Ty’s contributions are looking great (there’s a
lot of the stuff that WOULD have been in the GN like alternative covers and the
progression of covers from original sketch to final – and some absolutely
knockout stuff from Richard Pace who was the first choice before Salgood Sam
and he’s a brilliant artist).
Neil’s “BEGINS” is….well, I’m
biased but I reckon it’s worthy of professional publication (Ty agrees
and he’d know!). Also a selection of pin-ups by Neil.
Drew Gaska has now contributed a sketch of the cover for
CONSPIRACY (WOW!) and a pencil & then finished colour picture of an unseen
until now illustration by a new artist that nearly knocked me off my chair when
I saw it…
Drew is also interviewed and there’s the comprtition
for a CONSPIRACY set of the two posters (autographed & framed) and the
trading cards/dogtags.
It’s 40 pages (maybe now 44 – YIKES!) and will
cost $1,000 (or $1,100) to print 50.
This means to cut even we need to sell each issue at $20US.
So in other words we won’t cut even because when you add postage,
we lose. But we are offering issues for $20 including postage. I know
this isn’t cheap but when you think about the content and the fact that
I’ll lose about $10-$20 on each issue (depending on postage costs)
it’s value for money.
Here’s hoping I get 50 sold.
Looks like they will be shipping around mid January 2010.

This year as part of a thank you, they sent me a dvd of the Nature special from a while back. It documents Koko's life & in it was a section from when Koko was young. Penny is trying to get Koko to pick up her mess,
much like a child.... all Koko wants to do is play with her Planet of the Apes Mego figures! Which Penny takes away till Koko does as she was asked. Its only a few seconds but it was really cool to think that Koko was
playing with the same toys as I was when we were "kids."
I'm going to try & send her a few of the retro figures. I wonder if she can experience "nostalgia?" She has surprised everyone with other emotions she has expressed. <.html

I've sent them an email asking if it would be okay to send Koko a set of the Retro Planet of the Apes figures & asked if she's ever shown any signs of "nostalgia".
We've donated books & stuff before, so I'm sure it will be okay. I'll keep you posted once I get a reply.

It would be fantastic to see this script brought back from the dead. Though if it's the outline Rich included in his book then it doesn't really tie-up the stories so much as add
another chapter. But they're so imaginative that I'd love to see how they could have evolved towards a coherent ending.

This sounds exciting. Is it an Apes story? Set in the 30's? Should we know these guys from other work?

It’s the BACK story to BEGINS which
attempts to explain how we get to a planet of apes.
I believe Owen Lee & Joe King are not
too well known outside Australia ….

I hit a snag. I made a mold, made a couple of casts...painted it up. Looks meh. Anyway, I drilled the hole for the Sideshow body neck plug, and he's PINHEADED! Aw shucks! Anyway, no biggie. I just
ordered some material (PanoCast 160) that will enlarge it. So...the quest for Burke is still on.
