I recently
acquired a 45rpm record by a guy named Gary Knight called Planet of the Apes (B
side: Greta Green Grass) on the Philips label which was released in 1968!
The song is about the planet in the future run by Apes. I had never heard of
this before but it does show, like with Michael's Mangas, that 'new'
Apes stuff does still pop up occasionally!
Moxy if you are
interested in scans of the label etc. (no picture cover for this one) for your
Wiki page about POTA songs just let me know and I'll get something together. I
am also working on making an MP3 version available as soon as I can if
anyone would be interested.

.htmlAn interesting find.
As to the desire to hear the track, I guess that would depend on
whether it is total crap, or has at least some artistic merit. I know
that music, like all art, is subjective, but if it's really just a
cash grab based on name alone, I would trust your judgement if you
say "it's just not worth it". Did you give it a spin?

I
recently acquired a 45rpm record by a guy named
Gary Knight called Planet of the
Apes (B side: Greta Green Grass) on the Philips label which was released
in 1968! The song is about the planet in the future run by Apes. I had never
heard of this before but it does show, like with Michael's
Mangas, that 'new' Apes stuff does still pop up occasionally!
Moxy
if you are interested in scans of the label etc. (no picture cover for this
one) for your Wiki page about POTA songs just let me know and I'll get
something together. I am also working on making an MP3 version available as
soon as I can if anyone would be interested.

Yes I have

worth a listen.

An interesting find.
As to the desire to hear the track, I
guess that would depend on whether it is total crap, or has at least some
artistic merit. I know that music, like all art, is subjective, but if
it's really just a cash grab based on name alone, I would trust your
judgement if you say "it's just not worth it". Did you give it a
spin?

So would I but I have been able

recording so far.

Some of you may have done a search and found this page, and found that the link for the pota song doesn't work...
http://www.thecalicowall.com/45s/garyknight2.html"
...The address is wrong, I changed 'potp' to 'pota' and it worked, so here goes - hopefully this link will work and you might even be able to download the song through it:

Good on you but
don't you get to the stage where you just think f**k it why bother with it all?
We here all have
this love of Apes that isn't usually appreciated or understood by
others and for me it is getting to the stage where it just
isn't worth all the time and effort anymore. I know the indifference I regularly
encounter is pushing me that bit closer to giving up on doing anymore
POTA stuff.

I don't often chime in but I do appreciate you and WHitty. You contribute great things (not like the rubbish "the Cure" posters some fools do) and work hard but face it the
people you are doing all the work for are unappreciative turds. They want this they want that but when they get things they dont even thank you.
I don't blame you and wHitty wanting to throw it all away but i hope people here do chime in and make it worth all your work.

.htmlWhy bother? Well for one thing, the time I put into POTA activities is

them. If not, I don't let it bother me. If you don't enjoy doing these
things, then you owe it to yourself (and no one else) to stop or at

instead of a joy is going to get to you sooner or later. Taking part in
fandom should not be something you do grudgingly. It's supposed to be
for your fun. I myself have taken a break now and then. I won't let it
become 'work' for me.
Having said that, I hope you do stick around as you are one of the
pleasant folks here.
On a happier note, POTA fandom does have the occasional new recruit. I
purposely never watched the POTA films with my son until I felt he had
reached an age that he could appreciate it more than just as a movie
with 'monkeys' in it. Well he just turned 10 recently, and I thought
that now would be a good time to see what he thinks about POTA. So for
the last 4 weeks, we've been watching each of the movies once a week
(we're watching Battle this coming weekend). To my delight, he has liked
them all so far and, like most of us, POTA is his favorite, so it's not
just the costumes. He's not 'ape crazy', but I think he enjoyed the
movies enough to want more in the future. So there is hope yet. (I hope!)
PS: We were watching the Blue Ray and I opted for the new cut of
Conquest forgetting that it had a lot graphic bloody scenes. Some of
those even caught me off guard being so used to the theatrical release
version.

Dario congrats on a new recruit! I do ape stuff for my own pleasure--its escapism in a way from the drudgery of the real world. I also waited until my firstborn was 8 years old before I showed him the apes

If you're referring to the posters for the episodes of the TV series posted over at the POTA group and on Hunter's page, I think they're great--not rubbish at all. Those posters
show a lot of creativity, and represent labors of love by fellow fans.

My boys all
watched the Apes movies when they were younger and had absolutely no interest in
them apart from having a laugh at the make-ups. Spoiled by CGI and more
interested in video games I suppose!

I used to be like

Whatever makes you
happy, that what I say. I wish I had that Xmas Angel on my

Very nice
but I wouldn't bother doing all that work on it if my

Isn't she lovely? I still have to cure and paint her, but it's
sculpey on top of a Christmas angel. Her face feels like
ceramic. I will probably just cure the sculpey with a blowdryer.
My family hasn't seen her yet--I'm sure they will freak out. Oh
well. Whatever. She still makes me happy.

Guys, he's curing at the moment. It's all I can do to make him into Burke. I've uploaded his photos in Jessica's Stuff. Perhaps after another year or two, after I have
had more experience in sculpting, I can try to resculpt him. I just want to see him painted up and clothed!!

Well you would think it would be a treat to watch a female chimp cook your lunch, but no!!! My 2nd born preferred to stay hungry, the last time I was rushing to Wondercon.

Dario congrats on a new recruit! I do ape stuff for my own pleasure--its escapism in a way from the drudgery of the real world. I also waited until my firstborn was 8 years old before I showed him the apes
movies. He would always ask me if that really was how the world would end.
I wish I had started sooner...because my 2nd born just has NO interest in apes. But my lastborn who was exposed to the apes at the tender of 2 still loves the apes movies. And the kids don't mind the TV
series at all. In fact, they like it a lot. They just don't pay attention to my crafts.

Having said that, I hope you do stick around as you are one of the
pleasant folks here.
On a happier note, POTA fandom does have the occasional new recruit. I purposely never watched the POTA films with my son until I felt he had
reached an age that he could appreciate it more than just as a movie
with 'monkeys' in it. Well he just turned 10 recently, and I thought that now would be a good time to see what he thinks about POTA. So for
the last 4 weeks, we've been watching each of the movies once a week
(we're watching Battle this coming weekend). To my delight, he has liked them all so far and, like most of us, POTA is his favorite, so it's not
just the costumes. He's not 'ape crazy', but I think he enjoyed the
movies enough to want more in the future. So there is hope yet. (I hope!)
PS: We were watching the Blue Ray and I opted for the new cut of Conquest forgetting that it had a lot graphic bloody scenes. Some of
those even caught me off guard being so used to the theatrical release version.

.htmlThat was the very reason why I did not watch POTA with my son earlier.
They can't avoid getting exposed to all the flash and FX of modern
movies, TV and even games. So there is no excitement or interest for
them at the creativity of having a ape-centric world, like there was for
us when we were kids. But there is a great story underlying POTA that I
believe could only be appreciated by some degree of maturity. Even so,
I'm sure my son did not appreciate some of the intricacies involved. But
there was enough of a story for him to enjoy, and more importantly, he
wasn't put off by what for him may be corny makeup.
I'm beginning to think that there is almost a window in age groups that
POTA should not be viewed so as not to give the wrong impression. Either
you get them young enough that they enjoy the 'funny monkeys' and
hopefully learn to appreciate it more as they mature, or wait until the
are mature enough to better grasp the story. Catch them in between and
they risk being turned off altogether. Of course there is no magic
number to determine what is a good age as all kids mature at different
rates and not all kids go for the flashy FX as other kids. Does that
make sense?
I wonder what a psychologist would make of all this?
All I know is that I think my patience has paid off and I was thrilled
when my son asked me how soon would he have to wait until we could watch
the second film. Sure brought a smile to my face.

for everyone here when I say that your skills are on par with many
professionals out there. You're skills are way beyond those of the
average hobby modeller. I think they'll eventually come around to
appreciating the amazing stuff you create. They just don't know how hard
it is to do what you've done. I'm always impressed with your creations.

I forgot alot of people on the DG don't look at the group of morons too where Rory dominated every thread and scares off anyone with and opinion. There on the home page of the pota
group is the most sickening "movie poster" of the cure from the TV series. Previous ones have been really artistically challenged but this in is vomit material.

OK I have seen the “poster” and now I’m looking at my lunch
so thanks for the heads up! Don’t be too harsh though – there’s
a private joke in the groups (more in Valerie’s group) about the
shirtless Alan. I’m fairly sure that specific poster is playing to that
private joke..
Obviously you are not in “the”

My son grew up with Apes and has no interest.
Although, he can recite whole sections of POTA. My ex wife's daughter is
around me a lot. Since she was 4, she would watch the make up documentary
from POTA 01 at least once a week. She would also make me fast forward to
the make up section of Behind the POTA video. At 11 yrs old,
she borrows POTA 68 DVD all the time. She also wears her Nova
costumes, that I made for Comic Con, on a regular basis. I think it's just
something you're either gonna like or not. No in between.

Dario congrats on a new recruit! I do ape stuff for my own
pleasure--its escapism in a way from the drudgery of the real world.
I also waited until my firstborn was 8 years old before I showed him the
apes movies. He would always ask me if that really was how the world
would end.
I wish I had started sooner...because my 2nd born just has NO
interest in apes. But my lastborn who was exposed to the apes at the

Why bother? Well for one thing, the time I put into POTA
activities is my own. I do it for MY enjoyment alone. If others like
it, good for them. If not, I don't let it bother me. If you don't
enjoy doing these things, then you owe it to yourself (and no one
else) to stop or at least take a breather. Doing too much (or trying)
and making it a chore instead of a joy is going to get to you sooner
or later. Taking part in fandom should not be something you do
grudgingly. It's supposed to be for your fun. I myself have taken a
break now and then. I won't let it become 'work' for
me.
Having said that, I hope you do stick around as you are one
of the pleasant folks here.
On a happier note, POTA fandom
does have the occasional new recruit. I purposely never watched the
POTA films with my son until I felt he had reached an age that he
could appreciate it more than just as a movie with 'monkeys' in it.
Well he just turned 10 recently, and I thought that now would be a
good time to see what he thinks about POTA. So for the last 4 weeks,
we've been watching each of the movies once a week (we're watching
Battle this coming weekend). To my delight, he has liked them all so
far and, like most of us, POTA is his favorite, so it's not just the
costumes. He's not 'ape crazy', but I think he enjoyed the movies
enough to want more in the future. So there is hope yet. (I
hope!)
PS: We were watching the Blue Ray and I opted for the new
cut of Conquest forgetting that it had a lot graphic bloody scenes.
Some of those even caught me off guard being so used to the
theatrical release version.

Hi James,
I'm sure no one on the DG would say you can't have an opinion.
Michael and Neil have long "fought" to keep it as "open" as possible.
I, also can't say I disagree with your opinions particularly the view you express in your next post about people on the yahoo group bullying others and putting off posters, the only thing
I'd say, putting on my "moderator head", is that the guys who do the posters are not here
to defend themselves and it doesn't really seem fair to them and could be seen as an attack on James' group by the DG ...not some thing we want to get in to.
Best wishes, Graham.

Graham, thanks for saying this.
This always fascinates me coming from POTA fans who
surely got a strong message about racism and prejudice from all the movies, the
TV Show and the cartoon!
Surely nobody can say that one group (or race) or
another is "bad".
Yes, some individuals in groups do "bad things" but to
generalise is to go against everything imnportant we should have
learnt.
I would ask everyone to be more thoughtful about
this.

Well you would think it would be a treat to watch a female chimp cook
your lunch, but no!!! My 2nd born preferred to stay hungry, the last time I
was rushing to Wondercon.

Dario congrats on a new recruit! I do ape stuff for my own
pleasure--its escapism in a way from the drudgery of the real
world. I also waited until my firstborn was 8 years old before I
showed him the apes movies. He would always ask me if that really
was how the world would end.
I wish I had started sooner...because my 2nd born just has NO
interest in apes. But my lastborn who was exposed to the apes at
the tender of 2 still loves the apes movies. And the kids
don't mind the TV series at all. In fact, they like it a
lot. They just don't pay attention to my crafts.

Why bother? Well for one thing, the time I put into POTA

like it, good for them. If not, I don't let it bother me. If you
don't enjoy doing these things, then you owe it to yourself (and no
one else) to stop or at least take a breather. Doing too much (or
trying) and making it a chore instead of a joy is going to get to
you sooner or later. Taking part in fandom should not be something
you do grudgingly. It's supposed to be for your fun. I myself have
taken a break now and then.
So for the last 4
weeks, we've been watching each of the movies once a week (we're
watching Battle this coming weekend). To my delight, he has
liked them all so far and, like most of us, POTA is his favorite,
so it's not just the costumes. He's not 'ape crazy', but I think he
enjoyed the movies enough to want more in the future. So there is
hope yet. (I hope!)
PS: We were watching the Blue Ray and I
opted for the new cut of Conquest forgetting that it had a lot
graphic bloody scenes. Some of those even caught me off guard being
so used to the theatrical release version.

I don't think we
need this sort of 'opinion' in posts James, bad or good at least whoever
has made those mock posters has made an effort, something that should be
applauded not ridiculed. There's nothing wrong with a bit of constructive
criticism but there's no need to be nasty about it.
Neil T. Foster
I forgot alot of people on the DG don't look at the group of morons too
where Rory dominated every thread and scares off anyone with and opinion.
There on the home page of the pota group is the most sickening "movie poster"
of the cure from the TV series. Previous ones have been really artistically
challenged but this in is vomit material.

Hi James,
I'm sure no one on the DG would say you can't
have an opinion.
Michael and Neil have long "fought" to keep it as
"open" as possible.
I, also can't say I disagree with your opinions
particularly the view you express in your next post about people on the yahoo
group bullying others and putting off posters, the only thing I'd say, putting
on my "moderator head", is that the guys who do the posters are not
here to defend themselves and it doesn't really seem fair to them and
could be seen as an attack on James' group by the DG ...not some thing we want
to get in to.
Best wishes, Graham.

The scans are
going well. I have all of the Planet version 2 & Battle scanned and cleaned
up. I have the first 2 chapters of Planet version 1 (the one with the sown
together humans) scanned and cleaned, only about 170 pages to
go!
One interesting
thing with this version is that it is not all in black and white, suddenly it
will change to purple and white and even like the attached page it will
sometimes switch to red painted pages! Weird.

That's a great page, I take it you've flipped this one Neil (Taylor left handed)
The coloured pages are quite normal in Manga especially older ones.
In some of their magazines it's not unusual to find different coloured paper used, such as purple or pink for a batch of pages, then back to white as well as the painted pages.

Dario, I was thinking about my crafting in general...why my family does not appreciate the things I make. Maybe they do, they just don't share it with me. I guess it's the norm for them, nothing
extraordinary. Ah well...maybe someday I will create something so extraordinary even for them that they'll say "wow."

So no one in your family ever expresses being impressed at your work? That's unfortunate, because you're very talented.

HI Bill and
welcome to the group. Sounds like a good idea to me, I don't have a

I have been able
to see the unrated Conquest on Blue-ray and I did like it, very violent though
and I can understand why they changed it.

I always have more trouble with James Naughton for some reason.
I've never had a painting that I really thought got his likeness.
I think he's got one of "those" faces which doesn't seem to be photogenic, if you look at a few photos of him he always appears to look slightly different in each... not a
bad thing if you're an actor I suppose.
Best,Graham.

Thanks guys. Guess what? I just thought I might as well sculpt Dodge and Landon! I don't think anybody else is going to pay money to have someone sculpt those astronauts so...I may as well get
some practice and sculpt them. If anybody has any great stills/photos Dodge and Landon's faces, please send them my way.
Whooot!

I have drawn and painted Virdon's face & hair many, many times and I know how deceptively hard it is to get it to actually look like him, this sculpt is so damn good. You really
should be doing this professionally, you have a rare gift.

If there ARE full sized scans, I'll need to upload them to an FTP site. Do you have one? Ty

Rich – have you attempted to show
Doug what has surfaced and see if he recalls the missing pages and what they
might have held (even generally)?
Oh dear I just drooled on my keyboard! This
is almost like finding out they have decide to go ahead with issue #30! ;)

Is there a specific reason nobody is
posting on this group any more?
I mean we’ve had dry spells but this
is fucking ridiculous!
Is it the fear of getting a virus because
someone has posted they got one?
You all do realize you have to open
attachments to get a virus right?
So what do people think about Rich’s magnificent discovery – or am
I really the only person here who will comment?
