Hi Neil
What I read here really does not sound too
bad to me.
What does everyone (well at least the two
or so who seem to still be here) think of this?

THE APES PREQUEL STORY DETAILS
Never seems to be a good move for me when they think they
have to include these "nods to the original movie" Time will
tell I suppose:
EXCLUSIVE: HUGE PLANET OF THE APES PREQUEL STORY DETAILS!
We've been following the story of Caesar, a prequel to
Planet of the Apes, for almost two years now. We told you that Scott Frank was
writing and directing the film, and then we brought you news that he was off
the project. But Frank leaving Caesar didn't kill it dead - the project is
alive and well, and in fact tonight Deadline reports that Fox has hired Rupert
Wyatt, director of the little seen Sundance film The Escapist (no relation to
Kavalier & Klay) to direct from a script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
Now we have some details about the story of Caesar, which
is currently called Caesar: Rise of the Apes, and about the tons of little nods
to the original movie that Jaffa
and Silver have put into their script. And about how it
surprisingly ties directly into the original 1968 Planet
of the Apes.
Be warned: there are spoilers that follow, although fans
of the original five Apes movies will not be too surprised by much of what
happens in this film.
Like Scott Frank's version, Caesar: Rise of the Apes is centered
on genetic research. Will is a doctor trying to cure Alzheimers, a disease that
afflicts his father. He's working with monkeys to create a benign virus that
can get into brain tissue and restore functionality. After his research is shut
down he's left with just one chimp, the child of his most promising subject,
and Will raises him at home. Young Caesar is incredibly intelligent for an ape,
and over time he continues to mutate and evolve, looking less like a chimp and
moving on from sign language to actual speech. Eventually Caesar ends up
leading an army of apes in an uprising just as a catastrophe strikes mankind.
- Caesar: Rise of the Apes is explicitly a prequel to the
real Planet of the Apes. During the course of the script TV newscasts recount
the launch of a space craft called the Icarus, led by a Colonel Taylor, which
eventually disappears while going around the dark side of Mars. While these
aren't the exact same situations from the original film, Planet of the Apes had
Charlton Heston playing Colonel Taylor whose ship, the Icarus, crash lands on
Earth in the distant future.
- The script opens with poachers capturing apes in the
wild. The scene is structured to recall the apes capturing humans at the
beginning of Planet of the Apes.
- Caesar's mother is named Bright Eyes, which is what Dr.
Zira called Colonel Taylor in the original film.
- As Caesar changes his eyes become green; this reflects
the green outfits worn by the chimps in Planet of the Apes.
- In Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Caesar led
primitive apes in an uprising against man, and the biggest battle took place on
a bridge. The same happens in Caesar: Rise of the Apes, except this time the
bridge is the Golden Gate
Bridge in San
Francisco .
- There are other name homages. A female scientist is
named Stewart, which was the name of the female Icarus crewmember. Dodge and
Landon, also Icarus crewmembers in the original film, appear as names, but in
very different roles than in Planet of the Apes. Dodge is a bad guy, in fact.
There's a chimp named Cornelia, a play on Cornelius from the original film, a
chimp named Franklin, a play on Apes director Franklin Schaffner, and an
orangutan named Maurice, homaging Maurice Evans, who played Dr. Zaius.
- Dodge actually hoses Caesar down in a scene that recalls
the 'It's a madhouse!' scene in Planet of the Apes.
- At one point Caesar is sent to a wild animal park and
lives in a monkey house. There we see that the original film's social
structure, where chimps, orangutans and gorillas have their own strata, is in
place. Caesar manages to unite them all, though.
- By the end of the script humanity's downfall, which is
tied to Caesar's origin, is in place. Caesar is presented as struggling for
freedom, but he's unwilling to be violent. This makes the ending confused, as
the other apes
rampage while Caesar behaves non-violently.
- In the original Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
Caesar makes the other apes leap forward evolutionarily just by existing. Here
there's a more scientific explanation. Also, Caesar's slow mutation explains
why the apes in Planet of the Apes are bigger than and look nothing like modern
chimps, orangutans or gorillas.
- The ending is suitably bleak in a traditional Planet of
the Apes way, while leaving a big opening for the next chapter.

I’m not so sure.
This film does sound like it has had a lot
of thought put into it by Scott Frank who probably had NO nods to Planet, but
left it with no revolution and a hint that his chimp might go on to greater
things.
Take away the references and it’s
actually very close to what I always thought a new approach needs.
The story actually does sound rather
feasible and certainly more so than PLANET or anything else!

Never seems to be a good move for me when they think they
have to include these "nods to the original movie" Time will

- In Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Caesar led
primitive apes in an uprising against man, and the biggest battle took place on
a bridge. The same happens in Caesar: Rise of the Apes, except this time the
bridge is the Golden Gate Bridge in San

Not me. I'm clinging to any hope I can get. At
the very least it sounds like Fox "gets" that fans want a serious, sci-fi story.
Whether they "bland it out" so "everyone" likes it remains to be
seen.

how the film it that it's too early to say if it's a winner or stinker.
I'm particularly intrigued how he starts out as a regular chimp and then
because of the treatment starts to 'quickly' evolve.
Is this description straight from FOX? Because if it is, the rank Taylor
as "Colonel" and called the ship "Icarus". Does that make those two
facts 'cannon'. (Just messing with ya.)

I'm a lot more positive, I think. Now that Tim
Burton's attempt has come and gone, I feel confident that anyone wanting to
continue exploring the Apes universe will at least consider the original movies
and pay respectful attention to what was done there. I'm keen to see that there
is still interest in it and I'd rather see something made rather than nothing at
all.
If the resulting movie is another badly-realised
mess, even then, I won't be too disheartened and complain about it. If I
were that kind of person, I'd have been upset and angry at every Star Wars
film after Return Of The Jedi, and I'd rather try and enjoy it for what it is.
Hence, I don't mind The Phantom Menace, Terminator 3, and Burton's
POTA.
In the meantime, we might just find that the Caesar
film is a stroke of genius. Let's hope so!

I feel like it's getting closer to what could be a great film. Like everyone else, I'm a bit suspicious of all the 'nods' being shoe-horned into an otherwise original script. I'm just waiting for a
scene where the apes knock over the Statue of Liberty. Maybe Scott Frank's movie wouldn't have had all the blatent references, but it also sounded like it was just 'inspired by' POTA rather than
tying-in. I much prefer the idea of a new POTA movie which doesn't 'reboot' or 'reimagine' the concept. The only other thing that bothers me is why they need to remake Conquest. It's a good movie
as it is, it doesn't need remaking, and any attempt is just inviting bad comparisons. There's plenty of scope for a movie of the (original) ape revolution that can be as original as they want and still
wouldn't stomp all over the existing movies. There's still hope!

Well it's still
being talked about, which is better than not being talked

Neil T. Foster
I’m not so
sure.
This film does sound
like it has had a lot of thought put into it by Scott Frank who probably had
NO nods to Planet, but left it with no revolution and a hint that his chimp
might go on to greater things.
Take away the
references and it’s actually very close to what I always thought a new
approach needs.
The story actually
does sound rather feasible and certainly more so than PLANET or anything
else!

Yep, sounds okay
to me so far, maybe without any 'nods' though.
Neil T. Foster
I’m not so
sure.
This film does sound
like it has had a lot of thought put into it by Scott Frank who probably had
NO nods to Planet, but left it with no revolution and a hint that his chimp
might go on to greater things.
Take away the
references and it’s actually very close to what I always thought a new
approach needs.
The story actually
does sound rather feasible and certainly more so than PLANET or anything
else!

Never seems to be a good move
for me when they think they have to include these "nods to the original
movie" Time will tell I suppose:
EXCLUSIVE: HUGE PLANET OF THE
APES PREQUEL STORY DETAILS!
We've been following the story
of Caesar, a prequel to Planet of the Apes, for almost two years now. We told
you that Scott Frank was writing and directing the film, and then we brought
you news that he was off the project. But Frank leaving Caesar didn't kill it
dead - the project is alive and well, and in fact tonight Deadline reports
that Fox has hired Rupert Wyatt, director of the little seen Sundance film The
Escapist (no relation to Kavalier & Klay) to direct from a script by Rick
Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
Now we have some details about
the story of Caesar, which is currently called Caesar: Rise of the Apes, and
about the tons of little nods to the original movie that Jaffa and Silver have
put into their script. And about how it
surprisingly ties directly into
the original 1968 Planet of the Apes.
Be warned: there are spoilers
that follow, although fans of the original five Apes movies will not be too
surprised by much of what happens in this film.
Like Scott Frank's version,
Caesar: Rise of the Apes is centered on genetic research. Will is a doctor
trying to cure Alzheimers, a disease that afflicts his father. He's working
with monkeys to create a benign virus that can get into brain tissue and
restore functionality. After his research is shut down he's left with just one
chimp, the child of his most promising subject, and Will raises him at home.
Young Caesar is incredibly intelligent for an ape, and over time he continues
to mutate and evolve, looking less like a chimp and moving on from sign
language to actual speech. Eventually Caesar ends up leading an army of apes
in an uprising just as a catastrophe strikes mankind.
- Caesar: Rise of the Apes is
explicitly a prequel to the real Planet of the Apes. During the course of the
script TV newscasts recount the launch of a space craft called the Icarus, led
by a Colonel Taylor, which eventually disappears while going around the dark
side of Mars. While these aren't the exact same situations from the original
film, Planet of the Apes had Charlton Heston playing Colonel Taylor whose
ship, the Icarus, crash lands on Earth in the distant
future.
- The script opens with poachers
capturing apes in the wild. The scene is structured to recall the apes
capturing humans at the beginning of Planet of the
Apes.
- Caesar's mother is named
Bright Eyes, which is what Dr. Zira called Colonel Taylor in the original
film.
- As Caesar changes his eyes
become green; this reflects the green outfits worn by the chimps in Planet of
the Apes.
- In Conquest of the Planet of
the Apes Caesar led primitive apes in an uprising against man, and the biggest
battle took place on a bridge. The same happens in Caesar: Rise of the Apes,
except this time the bridge is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
.
- There are other name homages.
A female scientist is named Stewart, which was the name of the female Icarus
crewmember. Dodge and Landon, also Icarus crewmembers in the original film,
appear as names, but in very different roles than in Planet of the Apes. Dodge
is a bad guy, in fact. There's a chimp named Cornelia, a play on Cornelius
from the original film, a chimp named Franklin, a play on Apes director
Franklin Schaffner, and an orangutan named Maurice, homaging Maurice Evans,
who played Dr. Zaius.
- Dodge actually hoses Caesar
down in a scene that recalls the 'It's a madhouse!' scene in Planet of the
Apes.
- At one point Caesar is sent to
a wild animal park and lives in a monkey house. There we see that the original
film's social structure, where chimps, orangutans and gorillas have their own
strata, is in place. Caesar manages to unite them all,
though.
- By the end of the script
humanity's downfall, which is tied to Caesar's origin, is in place. Caesar is
presented as struggling for freedom, but he's unwilling to be violent. This
makes the ending confused, as the other apes
rampage while Caesar behaves
non-violently.
- In the original Conquest of
the Planet of the Apes Caesar makes the other apes leap forward evolutionarily
just by existing. Here there's a more scientific explanation. Also, Caesar's
slow mutation explains why the apes in Planet of the Apes are bigger than and
look nothing like modern chimps, orangutans or
gorillas.
- The ending is suitably bleak
in a traditional Planet of the Apes way, while leaving a big opening for the
next chapter.

As I was reading
the article the name 'Icarus' did make me think similar thoughts but I didn't
think anything of Taylor being a Colonel, he was wasn't he?
Neil T. Foster
Works for me so far, but there are so many aspects that really
depend how the film it that it's too early to say if it's a winner or
stinker. I'm particularly intrigued how he starts out as a regular chimp
and then because of the treatment starts to 'quickly' evolve.
Is
this description straight from FOX? Because if it is, the rank Taylor as
"Colonel" and called the ship "Icarus". Does that make those two facts
'cannon'. (Just messing with ya.)

I think that's what they're going for, a
retelling of the ape revolution using (hopefully) better science. At it's
core, "Conquest" had good performances and writing but it's details could've
been improved upon. We're comparing this to "Conquest" because that's the only
frame of reference we have. It doesn't sound very much like "Conquest" except
for the name of the lead character (and names from POTA68).

DETAILS
Thanks for sharing Neil.
I feel like it's getting closer to what could
be a great film. Like everyone else, I'm a bit suspicious of all the 'nods'
being shoe-horned into an otherwise original script. I'm just waiting for a
scene where the apes knock over the Statue of Liberty. Maybe Scott Frank's movie
wouldn't have had all the blatent references, but it also sounded like it was
just 'inspired by' POTA rather than tying-in. I much prefer the idea of a new
POTA movie which doesn't 'reboot' or 'reimagine' the concept. The only other
thing that bothers me is why they need to remake Conquest. It's a good movie as
it is, it doesn't need remaking, and any attempt is just inviting bad
comparisons. There's plenty of scope for a movie of the (original) ape
revolution that can be as original as they want and still wouldn't stomp all
over the existing movies. There's still hope!

explanation. Also, Caesar's slow mutation explains why the apes in Planet of
the Apes are bigger than and look nothing like modern chimps, orangutans or

a big opening for the next chapter.

I'm a lot more positive, I think. Now that Tim Burton's
attempt has come and gone, I feel confident that anyone wanting to continue
exploring the Apes universe will at least consider the original movies and pay
respectful attention to what was done there. I'm keen to see that there is
still interest in it and I'd rather see something made rather than nothing at
all.
If the resulting movie is another badly-realised
mess, even then, I won't be too disheartened and complain about it. If I
were that kind of person, I'd have been upset and angry at every Star Wars
film after Return Of The Jedi, and I'd rather try and enjoy it for what it is.
Hence, I don't mind The Phantom Menace, Terminator 3, and
Burton 's POTA.
In the meantime, we might just find that the Caesar film is
a stroke of genius. Let's hope so!

HUGE PLANET OF THE APES PREQUEL STORY DETAILS!
We've
been following the story of Caesar, a prequel to Planet of the Apes, for almost
two years now. We told you that Scott Frank was writing and directing the film,
and then we brought you news that he was off the project. But Frank leaving
Caesar didn't kill it dead - the project is alive and well, and in fact tonight
Deadline reports that Fox has hired Rupert Wyatt, director of the little seen
Sundance film The Escapist (no relation to Kavalier & Klay) to direct from
a script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
Now we
have some details about the story of Caesar, which is currently called Caesar:
Rise of the Apes, and about the tons of little nods to the original movie that
Jaffa and Silver have put
into their script. And about how it
surprisingly
ties directly into the original 1968 Planet of the Apes.
Be
warned: there are spoilers that follow, although fans of the original five Apes
movies will not be too surprised by much of what happens in this film.
Like
Scott Frank's version, Caesar: Rise of the Apes is centered on genetic
research. Will is a doctor trying to cure Alzheimers, a disease that afflicts
his father. He's working with monkeys to create a benign virus that can get
into brain tissue and restore functionality. After his research is shut down
he's left with just one chimp, the child of his most promising subject, and
Will raises him at home. Young Caesar is incredibly intelligent for an ape, and
over time he continues to mutate and evolve, looking less like a chimp and
moving on from sign language to actual speech. Eventually Caesar ends up
leading an army of apes in an uprising just as a catastrophe strikes mankind.
-
Caesar: Rise of the Apes is explicitly a prequel to the real Planet of the
Apes. During the course of the script TV newscasts recount the launch of a
space craft called the Icarus, led by a Colonel Taylor, which eventually
disappears while going around the dark side of Mars. While these aren't the
exact same situations from the original film, Planet of the Apes had Charlton
Heston playing Colonel Taylor whose ship, the Icarus, crash lands on Earth in
the distant future.
- The
script opens with poachers capturing apes in the wild. The scene is structured
to recall the apes capturing humans at the beginning of Planet of the Apes.
-
Caesar's mother is named Bright Eyes, which is what Dr. Zira called Colonel
Taylor in the original film.
- As
Caesar changes his eyes become green; this reflects the green outfits worn by
the chimps in Planet of the Apes.
- In
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Caesar led primitive apes in an uprising
against man, and the biggest battle took place on a bridge. The same happens in
Caesar: Rise of the Apes, except this time the bridge is the
Golden Gate Bridge
in San Francisco
.
- There
are other name homages. A female scientist is named Stewart, which was the name
of the female Icarus crewmember. Dodge and Landon, also Icarus crewmembers in
the original film, appear as names, but in very different roles than in Planet
of the Apes. Dodge is a bad guy, in fact. There's a chimp named Cornelia, a
play on Cornelius from the original film, a chimp named Franklin, a play on
Apes director Franklin Schaffner, and an orangutan named Maurice, homaging
Maurice Evans, who played Dr. Zaius.
- Dodge
actually hoses Caesar down in a scene that recalls the 'It's a madhouse!' scene
in Planet of the Apes.
- At one
point Caesar is sent to a wild animal park and lives in a monkey house. There
we see that the original film's social structure, where chimps, orangutans and
gorillas have their own strata, is in place. Caesar manages to unite them all,
though.
- By the
end of the script humanity's downfall, which is tied to Caesar's origin, is in

I don't mind a few nods as long as it's subtle,

pointless to call the villains Dodge and Landon. Having an opening where chimps
are hunted that recalls "The Hunt" sounds cool.

Thanks for sharing Neil.
I feel like it's getting closer to what could be a great film. Like everyone
else, I'm a bit suspicious of all the 'nods' being shoe-horned into an
otherwise original script. I'm just waiting for a scene where the apes knock
over the Statue of Liberty. Maybe Scott Frank's movie wouldn't have had all the
blatent references, but it also sounded like it was just 'inspired by' POTA
rather than tying-in.

Yeah me too!
The bloody thing is taking forever (and
yes that WAS a trick question!!!).
Every time we are ready to print there’s
another problem.
The latest was the 22 pages of comic –
the files were too small.
And the pages I chose of Richard Pace’s
work (first and BEST artist of the REVOLUTION comic – the version with a
THADE character) were too small and you could really tell. With this
being the first full colour POTA magazine we didn’t want to compromise so
we have been waiting on Richard (who has nothing left from the era) and Ty (who
has been super busy) to provide bigger files. These could not be found so
we are going with two full colour pages that were not “worded”.
Should be printing/sending Monday!

I’m not so sure.
This film does sound like it has had a lot of thought put
into it by Scott Frank who probably had NO nods to Planet, but left it with no
revolution and a hint that his chimp might go on to greater things.
Take away the references and it’s actually very close
to what I always thought a new approach needs.
The story actually does sound rather feasible and certainly
more so than PLANET or anything else!

I'm happy for them to take a completely new direction myself. Nothing is going to recapture the feeling of the originals or bring those times back, it's a
completely different world now so it really has no choice but to be different.

As with previusly announced plans, I will wait and see....one) if it ever gets made and two) if it's any good.....
I remain in the stance of not wanting anymore Apes movies unless they can recreate , capture and successfully realize the feeling of the original.... .

Hi Neil
What I read here really does not sound too bad to me.
What does everyone (well at least the two or so who seem to still be here) think of this?

[PotaDG] HUGE PLANET OF THE APES PREQUEL STORY DETAILS
Never seems to be a good move for me when they think they have to include these "nods to the original movie" Time will tell I suppose:
EXCLUSIVE: HUGE PLANET OF THE APES PREQUEL STORY DETAILS!
We've been following the story of Caesar, a prequel to Planet of the Apes, for almost two years now. We told you that Scott Frank was writing and directing the film,
and then we brought you news that he was off the project. But Frank leaving Caesar didn't kill it dead - the project is alive and well, and in fact tonight Deadline reports that Fox has hired Rupert Wyatt, director
of the little seen Sundance film The Escapist (no relation to Kavalier & Klay) to direct from a script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
Now we have some details about the story of Caesar, which is currently called Caesar: Rise of the Apes, and about the tons of little nods to the original movie that Jaffa
and Silver have put into their script. And about how it
surprisingly ties directly into the original 1968 Planet of the Apes.
Be warned: there are spoilers that follow, although fans of the original five Apes movies will not be too surprised by much of what happens in this film.
Like Scott Frank's version, Caesar: Rise of the Apes is centered on genetic research. Will is a doctor trying to cure Alzheimers, a disease that afflicts his father.
He's working with monkeys to create a benign virus that can get into brain tissue and restore functionality. After his research is shut down he's left with just one chimp, the child of his most promising
subject, and Will raises him at home. Young Caesar is incredibly intelligent for an ape, and over time he continues to mutate and evolve, looking less like a chimp and moving on from sign language to actual speech.
Eventually Caesar ends up leading an army of apes in an uprising just as a catastrophe strikes mankind.
- Caesar: Rise of the Apes is explicitly a prequel to the real Planet of the Apes. During the course of the script TV newscasts recount the launch of a space craft called
the Icarus, led by a Colonel Taylor, which eventually disappears while going around the dark side of Mars. While these aren't the exact same situations from the original film, Planet of the Apes had Charlton Heston
playing Colonel Taylor whose ship, the Icarus, crash lands on Earth in the distant future.
- The script opens with poachers capturing apes in the wild. The scene is structured to recall the apes capturing humans at the beginning of Planet of the Apes.
- Caesar's mother is named Bright Eyes, which is what Dr. Zira called Colonel Taylor in the original film.
- As Caesar changes his eyes become green; this reflects the green outfits worn by the chimps in Planet of the Apes.
- In Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Caesar led primitive apes in an uprising against man, and the biggest battle took place on a bridge. The same happens in Caesar:
Rise of the Apes, except this time the bridge is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco .
- There are other name homages. A female scientist is named Stewart, which was the name of the female Icarus crewmember. Dodge and Landon, also Icarus crewmembers in the
original film, appear as names, but in very different roles than in Planet of the Apes. Dodge is a bad guy, in fact. There's a chimp named Cornelia, a play on Cornelius from the original film, a chimp named
Franklin, a play on Apes director Franklin Schaffner, and an orangutan named Maurice, homaging Maurice Evans, who played Dr. Zaius.
- Dodge actually hoses Caesar down in a scene that recalls the 'It's a madhouse!' scene in Planet of the Apes.
- At one point Caesar is sent to a wild animal park and lives in a monkey house. There we see that the original film's social structure, where chimps, orangutans and
gorillas have their own strata, is in place. Caesar manages to unite them all, though.
- By the end of the script humanity's downfall, which is tied to Caesar's origin, is in place. Caesar is presented as struggling for freedom, but he's
unwilling to be violent. This makes the ending confused, as the other apes
rampage while Caesar behaves non-violently.
- In the original Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Caesar makes the other apes leap forward evolutionarily just by existing. Here there's a more scientific
explanation. Also, Caesar's slow mutation explains why the apes in Planet of the Apes are bigger than and look nothing like modern chimps, orangutans or gorillas.
- The ending is suitably bleak in a traditional Planet of the Apes way, while leaving a big opening for the next chapter.

Well, I'm a major fan of Tennant, he'd
make a good ape. Caesar would suit him more as he has a certain emotional
intensity. Cornelius maybe not so much. Doug Jones perhaps!

I think that would go over real well if Marky
Mark had a cameo. It would show a sense of humor. He probably wouldn't do it
though.
The actor most associated with the new director is
Brian Cox. His first feature "The Escapist" was because Cox agreed to star, and
he's also featured in his new movie "Birdsong". Cox (the evil Sgt. in "X-Men 2",
the evil king in "Troy") would make a great Kolp.
The actors will all play humans but they'll need
someone to voice the ape. Meryl Streep!
Ha! I said "Cox".

Has Fox turned over a new leaf with it's sci-fi
movies? The big complaint is that Fox interferes with their talent and dilutes
their movies instead of letting directors make the best movie they can. Well,
with these new reboots they seem to be trying to give the fans what they want.
We know there's been some "Caesar" developments, as well as attempts to bring
Ridley Scott back to the "Alien" franchise (recently it was reported Scott wants
to do it in, wait for it, 3D). Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we might
even consider "Avatar" the beginning of the new era in Fox sci-fi.
This past week, footage was unveiled for this
summer's "Predators", Fox's reboot of the same without the "s". They seem to
have let Robert Rodriguez go off to Austin, Texas and have his way with the
franchise. Will it work? Will filmmaker-friendly franchises make good movies
(and make money)? Or will Fox have to get tough with their iron fist again?
Here's the report:
And here's the just erected website with new
footage to judge:

As for the new "Apes" film. At least everything seems focused on trying to develop a real story. The last films greatest downfall was they had everything going for them visually (Tim Burton, Rick Baker...) but
No real story worth telling. Maybe they've learned their lesson & they will surprise us this time. <.html

GenesisApes is good but doesn't really have much of a catch phrase to it.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes falls more along the lines of Beneath, Escape, Conquest and Battle (word before the tilte).
And more so with Conquest. "Conquest of the...", "Rise of the..."

I just went back to CHUD's report to double check on the title to see if I could purchase something simular to it, and low and behold Fox purchased CaesarRiseOfTheApes.com and RiseOfTheApes.com, net and org.
So the only obvious choice after that was RiseOfThePlanetOfTheApes.com, net and org. The movie may not be titled that in the end but if it has anything simular to "Rise Of The Apes" in it, then it
won't take long for any planet of the apes fan to figure out, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.com in search of any apes official site or related fan site. Good promo for the film.

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a better title
because every POTA film title has had the full POTA in it. "Rise of the Apes"

David Hyde Pierce would be a great Roddy substitute (so would Kevin Spacey I think) but you have to wonder if Fox will want to recreate the Caesar we know and love. Aren't Fox more
likely to go with someone more 'action'? Pierce doesn't spring to mind as a revolutionary leader, but for that very reason I think he'd add great depth to the character if they did choose him.

I like that it has the complete "Planet of the Apes" in the title for your countdown site, because that would get more hits with the full title.

Just did a check on domain names.
It appears that Fox purchased, "CaesarRiseOfTheApes.Com, .Net and .Org" and "RiseOfTheApes.Com, .Net, and .Org" back in November of '09
Only 4 months ago.
So I went ahead and purchased, "RiseOfThePlanetOfTheApes.Com, .Net and .Org" today for my Planet of the Apes Countdown Site.
Let the Countdown begin. :o)

Agreed, Neil. Sadly, knowing FOX's reputation for messing things up (notably
with Joss Whedon's shows), they'll totally mis-case Caesar and we'll have
Nicolas Cage or Zac Efron in the title role! *cries*

.html*** I get the impression that this Caesar is going to be CGI, so it doesn't
matter who'd be voicing him... It wouldn't matter whether the actor is an
"action" guy or not...
Plus, Roddy pulled it off in CONQUEST: If you watch the interview with him
on the two DVD set of BEHIND, the interviewer comments that seeing Roddy
McDowall running thru the streets with an M-16 wasn't what you'd have
expected... ***

Johnny Depp and now he's the star of the new one.

Interesting choice! He's a small and intense actor
- could work very well!
I was thinking about actors who have a soft voice,
yet intelligence and intensity to their work and I came up with another three to
go into the mix:
ALEXIS DENISOF (Angel, as Wesley
Wyndam-Price)
ALEXANDER SIDDIG (Deep Space Nine,
as Dr. Julian Bashir)
JAMES CALLIS (Battlestar
Galactica, as Gaius Baltar)
All except Alexis are British, and Alexis does a
fine British accent as heard in Buffy and Angel. Might make good Caesars or
supporting roles?

I still believe they're planning CG chimps. Even
if they aren't, Haley probably wants a break from makeup. But I could see him as
the human lead ("Will"). I think he's a good actor and I think of him as a human
in the POTA universe from his role in the TV show 35 years ago. And he's making
a name for himself as a lead actor in movies.

What's the difference if it's authentic or

Yes.
I discussed this with
Mark Smolen (collector) who said the only way to check authenticity is on the
BASE of the statue, which is conveniently hidden by
felt!

The authentic ones are rare and fetch good
prices and I think they look quite good for what they are – bubbleheaded statues.
The fakes are made from moulds placed on
the originals and there could be thousands or more out there so they would not
be worth as much.

I'll be there April 4 with my two gorillas. I still have to make Dylan's costume, so I really need to light a fire and get cracking. And...after this con, I will probably not be able to wear
Apemania's Zira appliance anymore. She's just about had it.
I also still want to come up with fun photographs...Anybody have any fun ideas? I have done the shopping with fruit, gassing up...where else could I take a photo? I should have a photo of me going clothes
shopping...I don't know. I'll see if I have energy to be able to move around that day outside of the convention. Probably not, if I get mobbed again.

Well it’s been a while longer than we
anticipated but Neil and I saw a proof today and gave the final authority and
paid the $1,120 for 50 A4 sized copies.
I have always wondered why the fuss about
printing Fanzines. However, seeing it today blew me away and Neil as well
I think…Neil?
I also paid to have some full colour A4 size posters made of Neil’s art
that featured in REVOLUTION ON THE POTA #6. They look glorious.
Last I heard we should have the 50 issues
in about 12 hours.

I thought that you had already sent them out. Didn't you inquire about
whether people had started receiving their issues already. I've been
running like a kid to my mailbox everyday hoping to get my copy. We're
those only advance copies (to contributors?) that you sent out.

.htmlI'm also curious as to what something like that would cost to ship.
Not cheap, for sure.
The Auction expects a $7.5K price. It it only begining with the lower
$3.5K price starting bid. Given that it is from Natalie and has that
provenance, it may go higher. I was also wondering if the head and
body were things that Natalie herself ordered. Perhaps Jeff knows.

That sounds awesome, Michael. PLease take lots of photos!! I would love to go, but I don't know if my husband would allow that sort of thing and I'd rather not make waves...he just doesn't understand
this obsession of mine...
Jess.
If I had a choice, I would rather visit Apemania than Disneyland or any of those amusement parks. You can't beat seeing something in person.

It must be Helen. She's done a lot of work tracking down the baby chimp from Escape. I wonder if she's ever completed her carpet bag. That will be so fun to meet up with her,
