Finally managed to upload the revamped version of
Beware The Beast to the files section (Comics folder.) They are low-rez
versions of the pages so as to save space but we are still up to 99% of
capacity so I will probably only be leaving them up for a limited time.

Finally managed to upload the revamped version of
Beware The Beast to the files section (Comics folder.) They are low-rez
versions of the pages so as to save space but we are still up to 99% of
capacity so I will probably only be leaving them up for a limited time.

That is really beautiful! I wish you guys could get the comics license and run with it but I am sure it's expensive. It needs to be done right. Maybe someday, in my lifetime.

hi,
i left the other group because i just wasnt getting out of it what i wanted from pota.
the bean counting of rise's income and remarks about social structures reflecting in the movies of pota just werent hitting the mark with me. there were a lot of great things, the mendez graphics,
another graphic artist who sent me some icarus graphics he made for a paper model i am about to build, and a lot of files there with great pics and alot to offer, but it was just5 to 7 emails aday telling me how
much rise was bringing in ,and then some comments that i just wasnt really into, that wasnt avid fan topic apes stuff.
i really like all the movies tv show, and soon i will get the cartoons, and maybe even some comix, and i like the paper models and other collectables.
my favorite movie is beneath, why? because it seems to complete pota-1. the mutants, thier religion, the apes not being perfect and having a lot of problems, nova and of course the end of the world.
its kind of a creepy movie. and i like that.
pota was shocking and the rest of the movies had thier messages.
i feel i should state for the record here that i dont like comparing black people to the apes as far as takingover the world from a slave position like they were in the other forum, and i really dont care
about how much 1968 dollars would have to compete with 2011 dollars that rise is taking in everyday like they were there.
i like the make up and the sets, heck i wouldnt mind having some of thier artwork in my place that they had in the movies.
and im way past calling people names who dont agree with my opinion or facts i have gathered as what was going on in the other forum.
i am silly and sarcastic, even fantasmigorical at times. but i can carry on a decent discussion for a while, and if you like something about pota and are even borderline fanatical about it, i will talk with
you here about it.
sincerely,

BENEATH is my second favorite... In some places it does stray off from what
was established in PLANET but it's still a decent film... One of the best
things about it is that it's the only other APES film that's set on the
"planet of the apes"...

always thought it seemed pretty obvious that he was a misanthrope and had
no real liking for humanity so I can't see why he'd marry... Nothing in the
dialog of the film points to it and the stuff from the 90s comics and/or
REVOLUTION can't really be taken seriously...

OK I have a shitty memory and poor
eyesight so I usually buy AUDIO BOOKS but I am putting up with all that for
CONSPIRACY.
I am only a few chapters in but I already
love the subtle way you treat the little “flubs” in POTA.
First example,
Taylor says in the movie something like “3
Adams and she was our Eve”, which really does not make sense unless they
were being sent of to colonise and therefore Landon et al should know they will
not be returning to earth.
In CONSPIRACY I really like how you deal
with this by explaining that it was not a mission intended for re-population of
another planet, but the logistics were such that if there were an emergency, 3
men and one gal would be sufficient to start a new colony after having tested
all the genes of individuals.
Well done!
There’s more but I want to see what
others come up with…..

i think that the wardrobe is great, i like the glyphs and the colors. the art and even ape city with its cave like aspects, i always wonder what taylor would have thought if he had found an actual
evolutionary time line going on, say, just smarter apes that vocalized a few commands, and humans that were primitives, yet had that spark, although unused. apes in clothes, loping about, not fully developed, it seems
in battle pota, that every ape stood upright and spoke, right after the nuclear blast. ceasar was harldy old. unless radiation somehow enhanced and lengthed thier lives, then a small group could have been the beginning,
even in the archives, a few hundred years might be enough to make that work. although, i think that they say it was less that 20years after corn and zira
were shot dead. if rise it to reboot the entire pota juandra, i would like to see a lot of these holes filled in right, even if its just mentioned.

i remember that in 1968 marriage was not taken seriously, really weak premises for churches were used by those who got degrees and were certified as clergy after a year of school, just for tax dodges. it
wasnt even looked down upon, to get married by some garden philosopher, and have a kid and then break up without much of a thought. except for alimoney, that became a huge issue in the 1970's.
it would be possible for taylor to have a ''free'' marriage, or just have gotten married to be a good little astronaut image and then have regrets later, is there a line in the movies
where he says,
'at least i never got married!'?

i was just watching and interview with the babylon 5 gang, about how the narn ambassadore zjakahr, actually the actor, considered himself much or sexy and appealing as a lizard man behind the mask.
do you find that wearing an ape mask opens up or alters your personality?

Jim, I feel a bit different but I asked my sister if I acted differently when I am in costume and she said frighteningly not. I feel like I can be naughty and mischevious and not get in
trouble.
The weirdest thing though is getting hit on. Some are more obvious than others. I mean, I don't mind really but I get so much more attention from men when in costume than without. Well, yes, if anybody's
dressed up as Godzilla you'd definitely stand out in a crowd of humans. But wearing my Zira costume vs. my T'Pring costume, I get more attention from men being an ape. Jeff says Lacey gets a lot of attention
as well from men when she is in ape costume. It's strangely enjoyable.

Jim, I feel a bit different but I asked my sister if I acted differently when I am in costume and she said frighteningly not. I feel like I can be naughty and mischevious and not get in trouble.
The weirdest thing though is getting hit on. Some are more obvious than others. I mean, I don't mind really but I get so much more attention from men when in costume than without. Well, yes, if
anybody's dressed up as Godzilla you'd definitely stand out in a crowd of humans. But wearing my Zira costume vs. my T'Pring costume, I get more attention from men being an ape. Jeff says Lacey
gets a lot of attention as well from men when she is in ape costume. It's strangely enjoyable.

being a bachelor was prevalent back then, im not sure about as far as astronauts go, i suppose if he were some kind of test pilot, he might get away with it. col. taylor implies that he was around
35-40 years old and some kind of squadron commander before he became an astronaut. so not being married could work without any social complications.

to paraphrase what taylor said in pota-1, is that he is old school that tried the new way and found it unsatisfying. so he got fed up and left to find a greater being than mankind.
being sent off to colonize or return with great news about a usable planet just wouldnt fall into anyones hands with out reason. his whole attitude is the search for the truth, that drove him off earth in
a rocket, out of the ape's city and to the cave, then to the forbiddon city and to the end of the world.

and therefore how he came to resent the human race. This will all be seen in Conspiracy's sequel, out FALL of 2012.

Taking place during the events of the original 1968 Planet of the Apes film, Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes explores a shocking, never-before-told storyline!
After his spacecraft smashes into a dead sea of a seemingly alien planet, a man is separated from his fellow astronauts when a raiding party of intelligent apes attacks them. Captured, he finds himself a prisoner in a
world turned upside down, with apes as the rulers and man in its zoos. His only hope is to communicate with a couple of chimpanzees who just might be open minded and compassionate enough to be sympathetic to his cause.
But the man called John Landon will discover that intelligent minds, be they ape or man, all fear the unknown, and his destiny is not to become part of this new world...but instead to find himself under the knife of a
simian brain surgeon on the Planet of the Apes.

If you re-watch the movie, all that is definitive is that he gave up on mankind - hated the world he was a part of, hated relationships. He wanted something more, something genuine, in
short, something better than man.
A lot of bad things have to go down to get someone to have that outlook. A failed marriage and family issues usually top the list in making some one bitter.

Looking forward to it, and I am grateful for the support. If the fans don't unite and all pick up a copy of this book and the next, there won't be anymore. FOX wants to know that
people want them, and my publisher wants to know they can at least break even!

I've just started reading it but I'm impressed
you got this published as elaborate as it is. I noticed you credit a "NASA
consultant". What was their input?
Also, what was Fox's take on this? They seem to
be very controlling as far as what gets put out there. And this seems like a
wild idea (a pricey book about a 40 + year old franchise that has been
dormant except for the underwhelming Burton endeavor). Or did they just say,
"What the hell. Do what you want"?

.htmlTHERE BE SPOILERS HERE!
The Juno mission itself is real - Landon's suppressed anxiety over plus the mutants meddling in his mind leads in the end to his finally losing his sanity completely.
The party - one of my favorite parts - is a skewed memory - The mutants took a real event and twisted it, altered it, so that it would push Landon's buttons. Stewart most certainly was NOT a dancing fire eating girl
on stage - but that image of raw sexuality conjures up his feelings for her (being a guy and all). The general, of course, didn't really order Landon to kill Taylor, and it's unlikely that Stewart and Taylor
were having a romp backstage at the astronaut party (but they might have gotten together afterward).
Some are almost completely false, such as the one with him and Stewart and Dodge on the cliffside. Even that one, however, uses a post hypnotic suggestion of a terror memory from the Juno mission, juxtapositioning the
dead russian apeonaut with the words of Patrick to create a conditioned response in Landon. The mutants rattled around in his head to find things they could use - his strong memories of the Juno mission, where he was
forced to kill a man, along with the images of the chimp in the spacesuit, made the mutants think that he was conditioned by an ape master. So they all have some basis in Landon's truth.
It's all a tour of the psyche a man left home for good to keep up appearances and make his wife happy...

i have a question, of course i know i should read your book to answer it, but,
when did the mutants get ahold of landon? from the very start of leaving the ship?
or between the time he was injured and when taylor saw him during the hearing?
when he was ''thinking about stewart'' by the lakeside, and taylor was calling him, is that when the mutants had a hold of his mind?
if it isnt an easy answer i will hold tight and just get the book i guess, i have a lot of stuff on the burner right now, but i guess i could order it and put it on the shelf until winter when im
rained in up here.

Taylor were having a romp backstage at the astronaut party (but they might have gotten together afterward).

Mr. Young (from NASA) answered a series of questions I had about the Hasslien Curve and the Liberty -1s propulsion system. Also, NASA has a series of transmitters that start with the TX
prefix, and end with the number 8, so he suggested the TX 9 could be the next step.
I originally pitched it as a graphic novel series in 2007 - and FOX wasn't interested in pursuing more comics at the time. I remembered that Dark Horse had put out a book called ALIENS:TRIBES which was an illustrated
novella, so I pitched the idea of an illustrated full novel. Turns out FOX had really liked the ALIENS: TRIBES format and was disappointed that there were no more made (just some Star Wars Dark Forces ones for
Lucasfilm).
The woman in charge of licensing at FOX (Debbie Olshan) is pretty cool - she loved the idea of filling the blanks on the originals films, and is a fan of many of the artists I lined up.
As for "expensive" - do you mean retail price or production cost? $25 for the book you are getting (and much lower than that if bought on amazon) is a steal, really. Its a quailty hardcover book with more than
30 paintings in it and beautiful black and white illos as well.
Production cost, I paid for that- I am the owner of a guerilla design studio (BLAM! Ventures), and BLAM! paid FOX a licensing fee and put the book together. My publisher, Archaia, paid printing and advertising costs.
Everyone has fingers crossed that we can make back enough $ to continue the line past two books (the sequel is out FALL 2012). I have six books plotted.

No, the book is worth every penny, I'm just
saying it's more expensive than "Ape" fans are used to. "Star Wars" and 'Star
Trek", sure. But Fox has been struggling for 35 years to determine whether
there's that size audience for POTA so "Conspiracy" is a big leap of faith. I
guess we'll find out. Hopefully "Rise" will help generate that size of interest.
It's just too bad it's coming out in this economy.

The latest weekly tally is in. Though "Rise of
the POTA" is out of the Top 10 and pretty much done in the U.S., it surpassed
the $400 million mark worldwide. In fact, it's at $402 million, beating the $400
million "Gone With the Wind" made. Adjusted for inflation, "Wind" is the
all-time, unapproachable winner ("Avatar" isn't even in the Top 10:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm ).
But it's still sounds cool to say "Rise" beat "Gone With the Wind".

Rick Baker, who did the makeup for POTA2001 as

the new "Apes" (that was nice of them). He says, "That sounded horrible and
against what POTA is. I didn't want to know about it. Then I went to see it and
thought it was a terrific story and what WETA did was fantastic".

I haven't got Conspiracy yet. My comic store are looking into it, but I think it will be a bit longer before they can get it. I haven't gone near Amazon UK because I've had
nothing but problems with them in the past (Ireland doesn't have its own Amazon), but I might just pick it up from eBay. Anyway, my point is, I always intended to pick it up but I'm very encouraged by the
entirely positive reviews I've heard, especially from hardcore POTA fans who are usually pretty skeptical (you know who you are)!

Hi Neil,
Copies shipped to UK comic shops 3 or 4 weeks ago (7th Sept' I think, off the top of my head) so if your local shop uses Diamond Comic Distributors (More than likely) they should be able
to get it ok.
If you need the Diamond order code, if you want to pass it on to the shop, just let me know .

So, has "Rise of the POTA" helped Rupert Wyatt's
career at all? Well... he's on the short list with such blockbuster maestros as
Christopher Nolan (the "Dark Knight" flicks), Michael Bay (the "Transformers"
money printing system) and Alfonso Cuaron (he did a "Harry Potter" flick) to
revisit Rod Serling's seminal "Twilight Zone" (there will only be one director
unlike the previous, infamous TZ movie). The article notes that Wyatt is not yet
signed for another "Apes" (better grab him, Fox).

I don't recall if this was available before or included on one of the Rarities DVDs, but I don't remember seeing the whole segment. From March 1974, Roddy does a skit and a song in
Cornelius makeup, and shows a bit of his behind-the-scenes footage from Planet. It's the whole episode but Roddy comes in at about 3 minutes until about 11 minutes.

we happen to know, not accurately, but we know that the speed of our galaxy's rotation is close to the speed of light out here on the outer rim, close to where we are. and if we stop trying to go to
the nearest star, and proceed with what we have now, anti-matter rocket engines-already funded built and tested, and elimiate the problems, such as the bell of the rocket melting away from the heat of the anti-matter
engine, and use a chain of anti-matter pod engines that melt away and continue to fire in sequence, then go counter, to the rotation of the galaxy to a star 8 light years away on that course,
then we are going faster than light, almost twice the speed of light, approximately 18 million miles a minute.
right now it is possible to get to that other star, in near freezing sleep, in just a little over 2 years. wake up , look around, and go back to sleep and return.
but nasa has to use the anti-matter rocket to go to mars, and it can be melt away pods that drop off when the next one fires. so because the rocket melts away, and cant go to mars in a lunar lander type
vehicle, themoney just sits there, bound by a 1968 budget. nothing is done. it just sits there waiting for someone with the capabilities to free the budget and design and use it for something right.
when i think of recent mars lander, burning away all life in its landing zone, and then feebly clanking away at the metled hardened soil under it with its little beach pail and shovel, uselessly, all
because someone didnt think that thru.
and all the money nasa has been given since the early 1970's to do things that seemed plausable, but couldnt be built. that need to be rebudgeted, and redesigned into what we need now, because
'mommy' in 1968 left in her will all the funds in the world for junior to buy all the twinkies he'll ever need, but they stopped making twinkies and there arent any, so the money sits there and junior cant
buy healthy meal frozen dinners, because of red tape not rebudgeting the twinkie money, or the nasa funds sitting there for things that are out dated and wont work, but could pay for stuff that we can do now
competantly.
i start to well a tear.

'VOYAGE TO THE LOST LAND OF THE APES'
were two astonauts, male and female, launch a faster than light delta shaped craft and get crashed 500 years in the future, as tiny humans in a civilization of giantic apes. their goal, to find the
precious metals they need to refuel thier ship and launch back to their world.
they are befriended by a friendly giant chimp named ''BOBO'' and have an interesting and exciting time, full of cart chase scenes, and shooting pistols, unfortunately, there is no sound on
my camera i will be using, so i will have to dub it in from a cast of japanese actors who work for rice.

actresses and models and such rarely get hit on because guys are intimidated by

The weekly box office of "Rise of the POTA"
becomes less and less awesome. It made about $7 million worldwide since last
week, bringing it to $409 million. Getting to $ half a billion will be a
struggle. Next weekend it takes Japan and that's all she wrote.
This week it passed "X-Men 2" and "Signs", but it
still has yet to beat the first "Sex and the City" movie, "Terminator 3" or even
"The Exorcist". Box office is a crazy thing.

Ted Gagliano, prez of postproduction at Fox, said
Saturday that the "Rise of the POTA" filmmakers originally wanted Franco's
character to die at the end of the movie (as he did in the early script I
read) but that was decided against and Franco returned during the 4rth
of July weekend to film an alternate (I assume the scene we see in the final
version). That of course impacted postproduction, the topic of the
conversation. Gagliano says Franco's death will be seen down the road,
though it doesn't sound like it's on the blu-ray.

comic has sold out and gone to a second printing with # 6. This follows a

just for convenience - if you need to re-size it for printing out, I can share the original jpg files. Also, if any of the artistic people here want to do some more professional looking artwork, feel free!

"Rise of the POTA" is hitting Japan, oh, about
now, and got a pretty good write up in the Japan Times.

Fox's new prez of consumer products Jeffrey
Godsick sez there's new merchandising potential in the revived POTA
franchise. Well, duh, but it's nice to hear someone at Fox finally say
it. Prez sez!

This week's worldwide total for "Rise of the
POTA" is in, rising to $418 million. So this week it beat the Kevin Costner
flick "The Bodyguard", it beat Burton's "Batman" movie, it beat "The King's
Speech", it beat the first "Sex and the City" movie, it even beat a "Narnia"
movie. In a few weeks it might even beat "Terminator 3". The beat goes
on.

Yes, worldwide. Even with inflation. But it
didn't beat it in the U.S.
In short, it did about the same. But people like
"Rise" more.
