They did in the TV show.
They were always stumbling onto a computer

Why not some ancient scrolls written by apes or
humans or whoever? We have the Dead Sea
Scrolls.
Aha but that's the TV show where man still spoke English
and the BART train stations still lit up after all those
centuries.

However, the timeframe is at odds with what had been presented before
in Planet & Beneath.
So can you cite any other evidence other than the 500 year timeframe
that directly states there are two timelines?

Lord, so it has been estabilished by 'ESCAPE' that it took aprox.
500 years before the Apes could battle the Humans at their own game.
In your opinion, when did the WAR happen in APELINE ONE? 2510 A.C.?
should we consider the Tv SERIES (and the 2503 NY pic) as
*CANON* ?????????????????????????????????
That's the only point is obsessing me now!

years and I doubt that the Apes had not changed at all

.htmlWhy? The uniform of the Roman Centurion stayed vitually unchanged for
almost 1,000 years. Fashions in Acient Egypt stay the same for even
longer. In the end, it is the writer that says what is and isn't in the
fictional universe that they created. Paul Dehn said that it is a
circle. Is there even one line of dialogue in the latter three films
that directly states C&Z created an alternate timeline?

Hi Emily,
Nice thinking.
Or that what Hasselein recorded was not facts, but what the examiners
wanted others to believe were the facts. Or, that the recording
secretary misread her shorthand when re-reading the transcript. Or
that there was no recording secretary listening to the interrogation
and the examiners got the dates wrong. Or...
Has anyone here ever been asked to remember dates, times, doses, etc,
while under stress? It's really easy to get things completely wrong
and be very sure you are right. It wouldn't be lying, or even
incompetence -- just human (err, ape) error. And, not necessarily
hers, but (as Emily mentioned) the error could have started somewhere
else.

Okay, i just check and according to the sacred scrolls,
since that's what they're quoting, it was less than 200
years to slavery and 300 years to revolution. So, let's
do the math.
1973
+ 10 for the plague to take effect
+ 190
+ 300

= In Timeline One the revolution happened in the

Yeah, stop at APES ONE so there can be no repeat of APES TWO.
Considering the inconsistencies that Dehn still managed to slip into the series, despite his "mapped out chronology," what he once said doesn't hold much weight with me.
His map must have been as good as the map he made for BENEATH, where suddenly Ape City is on the wrong side of NYC.

You've brought up an interesing point here Bruce. They do
never go into detail about the nuclear war. The Lawgiver calls it 'the
vilest war in human history'. Perhaps some foreign despot (like Saddam)
decided to take advantage of the instability in the US caused by the Ape
rebellion and launched an attack. Or perhaps the US government started
using nuclear weapons domestically as the only way to quell the Ape
rebellion. Maybe the REVOLUTION comic will answer these questions.

This weekend "King Kong" dropped to # 3 at
the North American box office, behind the new horror movie "Hostel" (# 1 with
$20 million) and "Narnia" (# 2 with $15 million). "Kong" made $12 mil. So much
for those of us who thought Kong would be the Great Ape Hope and greenlight all
those ape movies in the wings.
Of course the U.S. is keen on it's domestic
numbers but that doesn't tell the whole story. Some Americans seem to have a
problem with the concept of a "rest of the world". Just an example: the # 1
movie of 2005 was "Star Wars: Episode 3" . . . in the U.S. . But worldwide the
top movie was "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" with $850 million (and
presumably counting) to "Ep. 3"'s $848 million. # 3, as in the U.S., was "War of
the Worlds" with a big drop to $591 mil. A big surprise is that the animated
comedy "Madagascar" (with a POTA parody) is # 4 with $527 mil. (it was measly #
8 on the U.S. charts); # 5 worldwide is Kong's main competish, "The Chronicles
of Narnia" with $473.9 mil, pulling it ahead of our beloved Tim Burton's
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", which racked up $473.4 mil, over $100
million more than POTA2001 (it's been announced that Burton and Johnny Depp will
reteam for the musical "Sweeney Todd"). Next is Fox's (by default) "Mr. and Mrs.
Smith" $467 million. "King Kong" is # 7 of the year worldwide with $464
million. Looks like it will end up with maybe 1/2 a $ billion. OK but not
blockbuster material. The only other 2005 movies to make Worldwide 100 are
"Batman Begins" ($371 million) and "Hitch" ($368 million). For the record,
POTA2001 is # 96 with $362 million. Next summer will probably see it leaving the
Top 100.
To sum up, "King Kong" didn't live up
to apespectations. So expect more "Harry Potter" clones. And LOTS of
sequels. - - - Jeff

We can all blame Dehn for the map he made being about as good as the ones
Cornelius draws, but what about the studio. There's a lot of oversight on
major motion pictures.
And on this picture I don't think anyone was looking very closely. No
one from continuity cam over and said, Oh! Wait a minute. The
actors, or at least the stars challenge scripts all the time, but they
didn't. Sure blame the writer for no having his story taught and
seamless. But You have to blame everyone else on the picture for shooting
it before he tightened it up a bit. The buck doesn't stop with the writer,
it starts with him. It stops with the guys responsible for what ended up

continuity in those days. The films were made before the days of
Home Video so I guess they assumed the audience wouldn't remember
details from one film to the next. Also, each film was produced as
if it were the last. There was no advanced planning. They just went
from film to film.

Sad, but true.
For all the rabid Kong fans, I think there are just too many people
like my wife and kids, who never had an iota of interest in the story
(I did take them to see it, but they protested; my wife has always
thought the Kong story was dumb, and she had less than zero interest
in yet another version of it), along with a bunch of people who lost
interest when they heard how long it was.
I loved it. Not a perfect movie, but a great one, for sure. And Kong
himself was just incredible.

| Subject: I've made IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! APELINE ONE Nuclear War scenario |
|
.html FROM APECALYPSE NOW:
2030s. Gradually, Humanoid Apes are considered as ideal substitutes
to the late pets and introduced to the masses worldwide. They are
received pretty well. The Date is conjectural. Cornelius's
historical account (see ESCAPE).
2100s Apes are now a very well-estabilished figure in every human
habit. The society around all them is progressing fast-forward a
very advanced model, and there's a positive attitude among people.
It's time for brand-new discoveries and technological innovations.
Mankind has finally reached its climax, the pinnacle of its
conceptual beauty.
2200s. The Humanoid Apes are not yet able to properly speak (except
for some of them reclused into off-limits areas of scientific
research). People start to realize the Apes can all-in-all serve for
a greater purpose, performing simple chores. Gradually Apes
are "switched" from the 'pet' to the 'slave' status towards the end
of the century. Even if nobody has still realized it, 'SIMIUS
ABILIS' is indeed born. Cornelius's historical account (see ESCAPE).
2300s. Humanoid Apes learn to emit sounds. Poeple is now totally Ape-
dependant, and develop a very lazy attitude which eventually will
lead the race to a kind of apathy. The Apes realize their terrible
slavery condition which truly worsens decade by decade. ALDO, a
gorilla, is the first ape to say the word 'NO' to his owners. He
will inspire a consistent band of Apes to insurrect. The revolution
is soon sedated, but its spirit will endure in the many centuries to
come. Apes start to plot against Humans, often deliberately hiding
their much more evolved nature. They also re-arrange abandoned
locations in order to 'elaborate' their complex acts of sabotage.
2420s. World War III breaks out. This incredible conflict would last
almost a century, despite knowing many interruptions and strategical
twists. Humanoid Apes would eventually take the golden chance
against Humans.
2440s. Legions of Humanoid Apes coordinated by a dark, primitive
network of informations, insurrect worldwide. The war is still
imperversing, slaughtering millions of men, and the Apes wisely turn
this tragic situation at their favour. They break the conceptual
chains that made them prisoners in the first place, and escape in
the Outlands, far from the big cities now in flames.
2450s The West Coast, still involved by the conflict, is shaked by
starvation and internal problems. Chaos and anarchy make literally
crumble down every city.
2470s. Some of the main cities of the East Coast are nuked. Proteus,
a young ape, becomes the maximum leader of the Ape revolution,
ruling the sites the Ape created for themselves out of the wreckage.
2504 A.C. New York is wiped-out in a nuclear exchange. Its
destruction signs the end of civilization the way we all know. The
date is conjectural: the infamous New York futuristic pic from one
of the last books is dated back to 2503 (See the TV Series: 'Escape
from Tomorrow'; 'The Legacy'). The Ape insurrection was revealed in
Zira's historical account (see ESCAPE).
2506 A.C. A group of surviving 'Scientists' and civilians affected
by nuclear radiations - under the guide of Commander Mendez - exile
themselves in the underground sites of the bombed-out New York.
Their spawn shows the effect of an unpredictable, deturping
mutation. The Scientists start to manipulate D.N.A. in need to re-
arrange and stabilize the acquired traits, making them advantages
rather than "obstacles" ; after four generations the final result
will eventually be the 'GESALT MIND', a group of telepathic mutants
who started worship the Doomsday Bomb after a while. The date is
conjectural. The Scientists in the episode 'The Legacy' (The Tv
Series) wears an outfit identical to those of the Gesalt Mind
Mutants. So this is an attempt to justify a presumibly consistent
evolutionary 'jump' in the human morphogenetics in such brief amount
of time (aprox. 1400 years). It must have an artificial origin in
order to be plausible, according to my scenario.
2507s. The Planet of the Apes I is born. On the East coast Apes live
in a primitive stadium. On the West coast Humans are treated like
slaves, but they still manage to retain their 'civilized' attributes
despite their masters. Since there's a big 'gap' between the rural
Humans in the Tv Series and the Primitives in PLANET.
2520s. Apes start to build up a very rudimentary "city". Proteus the
hero of the Apes dies. Of course we're talking about the East coast,
where cities were totally wiped-out and Apes found a very
fertile 'scenario' for their totalitarian civilization. The West
coast was less interested by the whirpool of annihilation and
devastation, thus Humans had at least a (liable) chance to start a
process of recovering of some sort, even if always subjugated by the
Apes.
2678 A.C. Ape civilization in strong development, but there are
still several anarchist, undeveloped individuals among them.
Carnivorous humanoid gorillas die in a specific area also featuring
the past remnants of humans from 1978 A.C.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ???????????????????????

.html .html.htmlWal-Mart: Error to Blame for MLK Link
By MARCUS KABEL, AP Business Writer Fri Jan 6, 5:59 PM ET
Human error is to blame for an offensive link at Wal-Mart's Web site that recommended a film about Martin Luther King Jr. to potential buyers of a "Planet of the Apes" DVD, the retail company said Friday.
The mistake resulted from a well-intentioned effort to promote a DVD about the black leader, said Carter Cast, president of walmart.com, the online shopping arm of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
A business manager had grouped "Martin Luther King: I Have a Dream" with three other black-themed movies and assigned the package an overly broad category of DVD boxed sets, Cast said.
So when an online visitor looked at a listing for the boxed DVD set "Planet of the Apes: The Complete TV Series," the black-themed movies appeared under "similar items."
Cast said the display juxtaposition may have existed for the past year.
Wal-Mart removed the feature from its Web site Thursday after learning of the juxtaposition from reporters. Wal-Mart apologized and shut down indefinitely its entire online system for referring shoppers to other movies.
Cast said there was no racist motivation.
"There was nobody here who maliciously put together that combination," Cast said by phone from walmart.com's headquarters in Brisbane, Calif. "I know the person was well-intended in trying to get the 'I Have a Dream' speech out as a cross-sell."
Walmart.com uses a different system than many other big online vendors to create cross-selling links. Amazon.com, for example, bases recommendations on what a shopper has bought before and what other consumers who buy a certain item also purchased.
Walmart.com manually assigns movies to specific "item display groups," such as science fiction or African-American culture. The company's internally developed software then generates links guiding shoppers to other movies in that group.
Beside the "Apes" boxed set, the King package could have been linked to any of a random selection of other boxed set titles from a group of more than 260, including "Best Of Hitchcock, Vol. 1 (Collector's Series)."
Cast said walmart.com would only start cross-referencing movies again once it has a new system in place to avoid a repeat. That could be a technology more like what Amazon.com uses or another approach, he said.
"We are looking at a bunch of different solutions right now," Cast said.

.html Okay, different people have been surmising different things about the
timeline of POTA, and such...Some have questioned when certain events
happened...Here is my take...Before you question me, read it through
because I believe I have substantiated everything from within the
five movies...Have fun, and play nice:
01/14/1972 (from 07/14/1972):
Taylor, Landon, Dodge and Stewart leave Earth for Orion: "In less
than an hour we will finish our sixth month out of Cape
Kennedy
" "We're some three hundred and twenty light years from
earth, on an unnamed planet in orbit around a star in the
constellation of Orion
Taylor POTA
03/14/1972 (from 01/14/1972):
"Skipper" and Brent leave Earth. This date is arrived at under the
assumption that Brent's flight took as long as Taylor's. Since Brent
arrives two months after Taylor, he assumedly left two months after.
06/1972 to 1978:
The plague on dogs and cats; apes taken as pets: "It began in our pre-
history, with the plague that fell upon dogs and cats." "...so,
humans took primitive apes as pets..." Cornelius and Zira EFTPOTA.
This date is arrived at under the assumption that the plague happened
after Brent left, and before apes were taken as pets.
1978 (from 2678):
"
But the artifacts lying here (heart valve, glasses, false teeth and
doll), were found at this level, and date back, oh, seven hundred
years earlier. -- Cornelius POTA
1978 (from 3978):
Apes recognize language: "What is English? I speak the language
taught to me by my father and mother, who were taught by their
fathers and mothers before them. It has been the language of our
ancestors for nearly two thousand years..." "They became responsive
to human speech..." - Cornelius EFTPOTA
2178 (from 1978):
Apes become slaves: "...and in the course of less than two centuries
they had progressed from performing mere tricks to performing
services." - Cornelius EFTPOTA
2478 (from 2178):
Apes revolt: "They became alert to the concept of slavery, and as
their numbers grew, to slavery's antidote, which of course is unity.
Well, at first they began assembling in small groups. They learned
the art of corporate and militant action, they learned to refuse. At
first they just grunted their refusal, but then, on an historic day
which is commemorated by my species and fully documented in the
Sacred Scrolls, there came Aldo. He did not grunt, he articulated.
He spoke a word which had been spoken to him, oh, time without number
by humans. He said, 'No'." "...or, after three more centuries, turn
the tables on their owners..." -- Cornelius and Zira EFTPOTA
2478 to 2678:
Nuclear War. This date is arrived at under the assumption that the
war happened after the ape revolt, and before apes began civilization.
2678 (from 3978):
Apes civilization begins: "It was at this level that I discovered
traces of an early ape creature -- a stage of primitive barbarism,
really -- dating back some thirteen hundred years, roughly." --
Cornelius POTA
2778 (from 3978):
Apes reach cultural level: "When were those Sacred Scrolls of yours
written?" -- Taylor. "Twelve hundred years ago." -- Zaius POTA
01/3978 (from 01/21/3979):
Cornelius' first expedition: "You're going back to the Forbidden
Zone?" Taylor. "We're going back to the diggings I worked out over
a year ago." Cornelius POTA
11/25/3978:
Taylor, Landon, Dodge and Stewart crash-land in Forbidden Zone lake.
Taylor, Landon and Dodge begin trek through Forbidden Zone. -- POTA
11/28/3978:
Taylor, Landon and Dodge sight scarecrow, reach jungle/lake and
discover mute human populace. Gorilla hunting party kills Dodge and
takes Taylor and Landon captive: "We have food and water enough for
three days
" "
If there's no life here, we've got just seventy-two
hours to find it
" -- Taylor POTA. This date is arrived at under the
assumption that the two sunsets/sunrises shown constitute the passing
of three days, in whole or in part.
12/19/3978:
Taylor speaks for the first time. -- POTA. This date is arrived at
under the assumption that, on average, it takes three weeks for a
simple gunshot wound to heal.
01/20/3979:
Taylor is brought before the High Tribunal. Zira and Cornelius are
accused of heresy, and help Taylor and Nova escape: "It's been
weeks. What happened?" -- Taylor POTA. This date is arrived at
because, according to the script: "Four weeks and three days, and not
a word from anyone
" Taylor POTA
01/21/3979:
The next morning, Zira, Lucius, Taylor and Nova meet Cornelius near
the hunting grounds and they head for the Forbidden Zone: "You're
going back to the Forbidden Zone?" Taylor. "We're going back to
the diggings I worked out over a year ago." Cornelius POTA
01/24/3979:
Cornelius, Zira, Lucius, Taylor and Nova reach the dig site. They
are followed. Taylor escapes with Nova, and they discover the Statue
of Liberty: "It's a three day ride across the desert
" Cornelius --
POTA
01/25/3979:
As Taylor and Nova ride across the desert, a wall of fire, a
lightning storm and an earthquake appear and then disappear
suddenly. A rock wall appears and Taylor disappears though it, and
then the wall disappears with him. Nova sets out for Ape City to
find Zira.
"Skipper" and Brent crash-land in the Forbidden Zone. Nova rides up,
and she and Brent head for Ape City. -- BTPOTA. This date is arrived
at under the assumption that the sunset/sunrise shown constitutes the
passing of one day, in whole or in part.
01/28/3979:
Nova and Brent arrive at Ape City. Nova and Brent are captured by
gorillas. "It's a three day ride across the desert
" Cornelius --
POTA
01/29/3979:
The next morning, Nova and Brent escape. During pursuit by gorillas
they hide in the subway ruins of New York City. BTPOTA
01/30/3979:
After sleeping (overnight?), Nova and Brent travel down the subway.
The gorilla war party headed by Ursus ride up over a rise and sees
the ruins of New York City.
The mutants have their ceremony to their "God" -- the Alpha-Omega
nuclear bomb.
Brent and Taylor are induced to fight through telepathy.
The gorillas attack New York City.
Taylor activates the Alpha-Omega bomb, destroying the earth: "But we
saw the earth destroyed
" Cornelius EFTPOTA. This date is arrived
at under the assumption that Nova and Brent slept and it is the next
day; otherwise, it is still 01/29/3978.
* * *
12/31/1973 (from 01/14/1972):
Cornelius, Zira and Milo crash-land off the coast of Los Angeles.
"Yesterday, a US spacecraft splashed down off the southern California
coast. It was one of two that have been missing in space for over
two years now. To be exact, the one commanded by Colonel Taylor..." -
- President of the United States EFTPOTA.
"
the Date Meter
what did it register after Earth's destruction?"
Hasslein. "Nineteen seventy-three
" -- Zira EFTPOTA. This date is
arrived at because it most closely satisfies both pieces of dialog.
01/01/1974:
Milo is killed: "Through an unfortunate accident, one of them was
killed early this morning, in the Los Angeles Zoo."-- President of
the United States EFTPOTA
01/02/1974 (from 01/01/1974):
Cornelius and Zira are brought before the Presidential Commission: "I
have therefore decided to convene a Presidential Commission of
Inquiry in Los Angeles, tomorrow. The two surviving apes will be

No Apes on that farm.
Buying the farm is a euphemism for dying. Maybe some dead apes.

Looks like someone needs to make a timeline.
I for one would love to see it. It would be the
most complete so far.

.htmlOkay:
In my scenario, BRENT and SKIPPER lift off in early October 1972,
when ANSA realized that Taylor was DEFINITELY GONE.
Follow me:
2673:6(months of travelling)=3978: x
x= 6x3978:2673= 8.
So it takes aprox. 8/9 months of travelling to 'land' on the Planet
of the Apes at that specific TIME -----> 3978/3979.
Basically, Brent arrived in Mid-August 3979.

.html Does anyone else here feel that the apes from POTA where genetically
altered in any way? their appearence, their size and thier intellect
tend to convince me they were "Tampered with" to make them more "human
like" and thus easier to teach ....I picked up that idea from the 2001
film. (I did not really care for that film but I did like the premise
and consider it another story in the history of POTA...as if it
happended in another part of the country...at a different time)
If the apes were altered by science...this makes thier creators the
true downfall of mankind.

.html Ricky, I prefer the idea of selective breeding for purpose, rather than
genetic enhancement. The 'gene spliced state of the art monkey' in
Burton's movie, especially if you read Bill Guest's two follow up
novels, loses the distinct 'Ape' identity, which is not something I
particularly like. The breeding selection scene in Conquest hints that
breeding, rather than gene manipulation, was the cause of the rapid
evolution and I'm happier with that.Primitive Man was able to do
remarkable things to dogs and horses, and wheat and potatoes, just by
picking and choosing what bred with what.A modern world,if it put its
mind to it, could do somrthing similar with Apes, especially if you
think how close they are to us to start with.Just my humble view! John,

.htmlYes, they were the 'product' of genetic tampering ----- transgenics ---
- but not an *human one* to begin with. They started to 'mutate'
(spontaneously or artificiously) in the previous millennium.

Hi Ricky,
I guess I don't really like to think that they were genetically
altered, but that may be because I easily accept the makeups as being
great stuff at the time and throw myself into the fantasy.
With the new techniques in makeup and filming (and CGI) I can see
where it would seem nice to come up with a reason for this difference,
though. If that works for you, then I don't have a problem with it.
If someone wants to come up with a story that supports classic apes
and works that in, then by all means, give it a go.
In the meantime, though, I wonder: Would writers/producers of a
remake use the gene manipulation theory or would they use different
imaging techniques if they were to do a remake now, 2006?

What do you mean about the 'breeding selection in CONQUEST'?

Okay look at the scene with Zira and that other chimp.
Do they look the same? Are you blind? I know were
supposed to believe that are the same, but I just can't
make that jump. Any more than I can those orangs.

I accept them but not right next to the
GIlligan's Island Apes. As far as any
new apes properties, I don't think we'll
see another until the 20teens. They
only do it when they need a bail out.
And it will take them that long to

It wasn't that big here.
I never really watched it.
I watch shows like Lost In Space,
Land Of The Giants & Time Tunnel.
But Johnny Quest was my favorite.

(I did not really care for that film but I did like the premise and consider it another story in the history of POTA...as if it happended in another part of the country...at a different time) If the apes were altered by science...this makes thier creators the true downfall of mankind.
Ricky Being altered by science is an interesting storyline but I like the apes to naturally evolve. If humans evolved, then why wouldn't other animals change and become more intelligent. Elaine

Not necessarily. If there are desserts

of New York, it's obviously a very different
world, and the climate may be perfectly
suitable for growing them right there.

Basically, Brent arrived in Mid-August 3979.
Aaaaaahhhh, didn't Landon say something in PLANET about being gone from earth for 18 months?

Ricky, I prefer the idea of selective breeding for purpose, rather than

particularly like. The breeding selection scene in Conquest hints that
breeding, rather than gene manipulation, was the cause of the rapid
evolution and I'm happier with that.

.htmlThis is the response I got from PetitionsOnline about the problems
some are having signing the petition. There is a work around:
-- Staying online and signed in to AOL, minimize AOL and go back to
your computer's desktop.
-- From the desktop, call up Internet Explorer. Most PC and Macs
have IE preloaded.
-- In IE go to the address box and paste in the petition location
http://www.petitiononline.com/Battle/ and click go.
-- The petition site should come up and you should be able to sign.
If anyone else has problems please let me know.

Good question. Elaine brings this up sometimes, too. I'd like to
think that there are other Ape civilizations. And probably different
languages and cultures. Even different beliefs and takes on the
beliefs that exist in Zaius's pod.

.html I was wondering...
Were the Humanoid APES (in both APELINE ONE and TWO) provided with
a 'language' or a 'form of communication' of their own, even before
they would have been 'preleved' by their habitats and 're-arranged' as
PETS/SLAVES? That would indicate something MORE about their origin
(spontaneous mutation of millennia; artifical one achieved by
Humans/Aliens or God knows who).
Apeline One: they were able to 'remember' and tramandate (orally) the
episode involving ALDO. This would have happened in 2300s, ENOUGH time
BEFORE the writing of the SACRED/SECRET SCROOLS (2778 A.C.). At that
time, the Apes didn't speak ENGLISH ----> ALDO was indeed the first
one!
Apeline Two: When Caesar, Virgil and MacDonald explored the bombed-out
Ape Training Center in CENTURY CITY (East coast), they said something
about 'Ape conspirations' of some sort. So, even if the Humanoid Apes
were not provided with the English use they would acquire in the
following decades, they were actually ABLE to communicate each other!
What do you think about it? I'm still wondering if - in APELINE ONE -
the Apes learnt to TALK in 2300s or in 2400s... You know, my timeline!
