It is, but that show most people got into right away. I was listing some of the AS shows that took a while to people to get into. The more straightforward new programs like Robot Chicken, Venture Brothers, and Stroker & Hoop are a little more accessible right from the get go.

The cartoon series would have been no. 6 but the last time I heard the
music score was when it was aired in 1975.

It was an orchestral score! You've probably never even listened to it closely. I have it on CD. It's great.

I respect your opinion, and I have listened to it closely, but I
remember seeing it for the first time in the 70's as a 10 year old
kid and even then I thought the music was all wrong. Well, actually,
just the main theme. The incidental music I didn't have a problem
with. <.html

Sorry Chris, I missed this 1st time around.
Yes, the whole thing was fun, scratch-built, father and son project,
built from odds and sods I had lying around the house. You can't see
them in the pic because of the depth of field/focus but that's Taylor,
Nova AND a horse all made from 'z' gauge railway figures. The ocean
was a product called 'E Z water' and the cliffs were carved
polystyrene. The sand was made from... uhmm.. sand.
For the photo I stood the piece in front of a page ripped from a calendar.

I agree with Rory here. I don't think the music dates the movie,
rather establishes and identifies when and where it takes place.
Before I could list my favourite APE score I would have to decide how
I am judging it (as you should all movie scores). If we are judging it
by how the music works in conjuction with the images on screen, then
PLANET is my favourite. It works brilliantly - setting the mood and
tone, emphasising the shocks and discoveries along the way, BUT...
Divorced from the movie, listening JUST to the music on a CD I
personally don't find it as succesful. I appreciate its skill and
innovation but as a pure listening experience it's not one I often
choose to play.
I find the same is true of all the APE scores but as a pure listening
experience I find ESCAPE the most rewarding. It's more melodic,
thematic and 'approachable' than the others and works well with or
without the images it was written to accompany.
IMHO of course,

I think you'll find that the main title of ESCAPE is among one of Jerry Goldsmith's most popular.

I'm glad someone agrees with me here, I was beginning to think I'd landed on a topsy-turvy world!
I find the original PLANET score to be quite listenable to apart from the film. Since the original is the movie I most associate with all that is POTA, this music carries the most weight and importance. It's the score that works best to evoke, as Heston put it, "the mind-bent milieu of PLANET OF THE APES."

The Spiderman Unlimited cartoon was better, but only ran one season.
At the end, Spiderman was still on the alternate earth.
The website for the Avengers upcoming DVD is www.ultimateavengers.com
I agree about the costumes in the 1990 Captain America movie, they
were good, but the story went nowhere. And the Red Skull's German,
not Italian!
In the current comics, Captain America just ended a fantastic story

Better keep this on POTA somehow......ummm...Yeah, I like BATTLE a

conjunction with the visuals. However, we've all seen the films so many
times that it'd be hard to separate the music from the films. There are a

cool to listen to (not the reworked music from the official release that

It's my least favorite as well (I don't count the POTA 2001 score),
though I don't hate it. The opening theme does date the film a bit
though, which I think is why orchestral scores are more the preferred
norm. None of the music from the other four films (or the live action
series) really sound dated.
Here's a thought- what if ESCAPE had been made *now* and was still set in
1973. Would that same Goldsmith music sound 'retro' or 'dated'? The
production back then was making a film that was set in modern day, so I
would imagine that's part of why the opening was done the way it was.
An even better example of a older film that truly timeless is 2001: A
Space Odyssey.

Back when I was in college and my aspiration was to work in the
programming department at one of the local indie stations, I had this
idea for "Sci-Fi Saturday" where old TV series and films were ran all day
long, complete with a local host that would answer questions, have guest
in the studio, and so forth. My first three choices were the POTA TV
series, Space: 1999, and UFO. Granted, this was all self-serving...
Earth: Final Conflict was great in the first Season, sucked in Seasons 2
& 3, kind of got back in Season 4, and was mercifully ended after Season
5. It just got so far away from what it was originally intended to be,
particularly because they brought more and more producers into the fold.

"Daily Variety" (Jan. 31st) says Fox plans a
promotion for the new "Apes" DVDs (Ultimate Collection and Legacy Collection) at
the end of March when Peter Jackson's "King Kong" premieres on DVD. Fox ads will
say "It takes more than one ape to rule" and "Who's the king now?" . Could this
be the prelude to another volley of interest in "Apes" from Fox?
Also on the day of Kong's release, Warner
Bros. will debut a new special edition DVD of their crappy 1998 "Godzilla"
remake (good, we need that). As for Kong himself, there will be two editions of
the movie (Universal is being tight-lipped about that) and a single-disc release
of the original (no extras like the 2-disc that's out). Monkey biz should be
good the last week of March. Too bad the "Apes" DVDs don't arrive next Tuesday,
the day before the 38th anniversary. - - - Jeff

.html I bought a Samsung Nuon dvd player on closeout (4 years ago), the
screen reads "loading nuon features enhanced mode" when I first play
POTA 2001, the features finish loading, but when I click on Nuon
features in the menu, it says access requires nuon player and nothing
comes up. The "cool zoom" and a "screensaver" comes up when paused for
five minutes, but I can't access the Director's Digest or Viddies
(whatever that may be) I contacted Samsung, but the could provide no
help, they said their nuon player was for games and not movies. Has
anyone been able to access these features, or know anything about this
(other than the tecnology is defunct) Well, it is POTA 2001. Does
anyone even care? <.html

At the end of his essay on the album jacket for the original PLANET LP -- of course!

There are only 2 Nuon players, Samsung and Toshiba.
I thought about getting one, but there are only 2 DVDs
with Nuon features, POTA2K1 and Buckaroo Banzai.
So unless I have a bunch of spare cash I guess I won't.
Thanks for the info though. If I do it'll be a Toshiba.

.html As many of you are members of other Planet of the Apes groups you may
know Michael and Neil and their work on their original online comics.
Recently someone going by the name "totellawhopper" attacked
Michael's writing in a very uncostructive way. With a name like "to
tell a whopper" I assumed it was a fake user name and someone stiring
things up (something I have been known to do myself but without
hiding behind a fake name). When I pointed this out, expecting
someone already established in the groups to say "ha ha, ya got me"
and refering to the person as a "splitter" in reference to Monty
Python's Life of Brian and the way this all resembles the seperation
of the Peoples front of Judium and the Judium Peoples front, I
aparently upset some of you. For this I am sorry. I post mainly in
the DG not because I am cowardly and are attacking you, but because
they seem to get my sense of humor and are not offended by my post. I
respect the way James chooses to run his group and that is why I am
quiet and well behaved here. ;) This is not the first time James has
contacted me privately because things I've said where taken wrong in
this group, which is why I have been reduced to a lurker here. I have
been a fan of Planet of the Apes since my Dad used to let me stay up
to watch the TV show with him when I was a kid. I was glad to find
other people who still enjoy the franchise. I have always been a
member of both groups and hope to remain in both. Sorry guys. <.html

The whole set is 17 discs, including the bonus disc with the "ending"
episode. You can see a photo of it here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006FD8P/103-3597746-6046229?v=glance&n=1

I've seen it in many stores, and they're still out there and easy to find.
Borders, Barnes and Nobles and Suncoast all
have them, and as you can see above, you can get a used set on Amazon for
$109, which is about half of the original
retail price.
I'd be more than happy to burn you a copy, but the problem is that I don't
have a burner to do so. If you'd like, I can
lend you my set for copying. I'll warn you, though -- it's VERY campy. I
remember loving it as a kid, but as an adult,
I'm finding it harder to watch. :)

Is it true? I can't see anything. Even in the "Fight like apes" scnee,

so clear.
Are they definitely flubs, even if they are "unnoticeable"?

Since PLANET OF THE APES was shot in Panavision, I like to go with Panasonic. They have nothing to do with each other, but I like the "Pana" connection.
Also, it now makes no sense, if you're going to buy a DVD/VCR combo, not to just spend a few extra bucks and get a VCR/DVD recorder. They're only a few dollars more.
