It's been described as psychedelic music inspired by POTA. Quite a
rarity, and something I hope to include in the previously mentioned radio
spots/music inspired by CD project. I see there's one bid already- is it
from anyone in the group?

I never knew Kim had such recognition for Planet and I'm glad she
did.I'm even more convinced that nowadays she would have had her second
Oscar.Tim Roth, I think, won the Empire Award over here for what was,
whatever you think of the movie, a striking performance as Thade.I
thought Paul Giamattii was pretty special too, as Limbo.Obviously
Heston stole the whole movie, though! John, Scrolls.

Wow! Somebody pinch me! Not only have we got the new comic and the
Ultimate Apes dvd, with the animated series, but Mike Whitty is
writing. It's just too much to take in, particularly as I know he'll
totally handle the third party narrative trap that often snags lesser

    Hi there,

I didn't see the flub with Ms Hunter at all. However, I could see the
edges of her human mouth when she opened her mouth at one point.

    I didn't see a flub.

Yeah, her "inner" mouth. But you can see just the edges, and that is
hardly a "flub" in my book !!!!

What's about CAESAR? I think it's just the same as for Zira. Well,
what's the big deal? It's the internal flesh of their APE mouths.

I believe the Ape head includes all five films, the TV series, the
Cartoon series and the 2001 remake while the Legacy set only
    includes the five films.

    Subject: James Cameron on POTA2001
    .html
    .html
Aintitcool.com's "Quint" got a cool interview with James Cameron in Santa Barbera where he was picking up an award. Cameron talks about what he's learned doing documentaries, his love of the new 3D technology, and his thoughts on a couple of recent Fox movies.
Cameron was going to develop a new "Alien" movie (with Ridley Scott!) for Fox but got his toes stepped on when Fox decided to do recent "Alien vs. Predator" movie (a movie Cameron happened to like). This brought back memories of another project Cameron tried to get going for Fox...POTA. Says he:
"I had a great idea with "Planet of the Apes", but it was Fox's asset. Even though I was supposedly developing it we didn't see eye to eye and they sort of picked up their marbles and that was that. They turned out, I think, possibly the most egregious film that they could have on that subject because they miscast the director. It's the only Tim Burton film that I don't like". Though Cameron says of Tim Roth's performance of Thade, "He's stunning!" To read more of Cameron's comments on filmmaking in 2006, go to:  http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22405  .
I would probably pick Cameron as the top director of science fiction movies of the last two decades, in terms of a nuts and bolts serious approach that is still fun and entertaining. It still blows my mind that Fox spent a decade turning down the ideas of guys like Cameron and Oliver Stone (and, apparently, what Burton REALLY wanted to do). What exactly was Fox's idea that was so precious. The only thing I can think of is they wanted a "happy" family movie and those guys might have upset the apple cart by doing something serious and relevant. Whatever.
Cameron has spent almost a decade since his last film working on other projects, developing new technologies, and now he's ready to get back in the director's chair for his first science- fiction movie since "Terminator 2" 15 years ago. It's the mysterious Project 880 (which many think is his dream project "Avatar", not least because last summer he got the rights for www.avatarmovie.com ). His plan is to introduce this world as an online game to get people familiar with it before the movie comes out. He also wants to do a movie of the manga "Battle Angel Alita". He's got a total of 5 movies lined up, all in 3D. The first one ("Avatar"?) hits in 2007. Personally, I can't wait. - - - Jeff

the full Conquest, the full Escape( the missing opening footage and the
footage from the hotel where they're messing around with toilets and
toothbrushes) and, just for something easy, the extended chase scene
from Planet, with Nova's pregnancy and the Hunters searching the cart?
I didn't think there was ANY chance before now! John, Scrolls.

Thanks but this was an effort of more than one person. The following
sites all got behind the effort to display the banner or link to the

    Hunter's Site: https://pota.goatley.com/
    Kass's Site: https://pota.v.kassidyrae.com/
    The Forbidden Zone Site: http://www.theforbidden-zone.com/
    Friends & Fugitives:

as well as other groups that annouced or allowed us to announce the
    petition on their message boards.
Special thanks should go to Apecalypsenow who had the idea to do a

Hi John- The last panel of the current Captain America issue (#14)
answers all questions about The Red Skull. You're right though.
Remember how only his shadow survived years back? The current
writing team on Cap is great, the latest relaunch of the book has
been very entertaining. Bucky's return from the dead couldn't have
    been done more plausibly.
I'm gonna check that Marvel issue, that's a comic flub!
That gives me an idea for a homepage photo/spoof- Aldo
watching reruns of Sheriff Lobo? Or is that toooo hokey?

    Long live BATTLE!

    Dan

Even though I was supposedly developing it we didn't see eye to eye and they sort of picked up their marbles and that was that. They turned out, I think, possibly the most egregious film that they could have on that subject because they miscast the director. It's the only Tim Burton film that I don't like".

I went and looked up the word "egregious."  It means "outstanding in bad or evil qualities."

    I prefer my term...

It still blows my mind that Fox spent a decade turning down the ideas of guys like Cameron and Oliver Stone (and, apparently, what Burton REALLY wanted to do). What exactly was Fox's idea that was so precious.

All you have to do is go read Jane Hamsher's book "Killer Instinct" and find out how the whole "re-imagining" thing started to know how ill-conceived and totally wrong and wicked it all was.  The problem is that those who are executives at the studios simply aren't filmmakers, they're mostly spoiled rich-boys just out of Ivy League schools and just looking to make their first million.  It's easier to make your money producing crap that a gullible public will buy than it is something of quality, so crap is what we get.

This is one of the reasons I've decided I'm definitely not buying that damn Ultimate head thing!

I think I'm going to just get the Legacy set, and wait and see if Fox really does release the cartoon series separately.  If not, I'm betting I can still get the Ultimate Edition months from now and maybe for less than $100.

I want to read the reviews of it first.  Will there really be TV spots included with the TV show discs this time?  I kind of doubt it.  Just how good will the cartoon series look?  Better to wait than just shell out over a hundred bucks for this thing now.

The transfers of the sequels look as if they'll be an improvement over the previous releases, not just because they'll be anamorphic, which will make them look better on your HDTV, but also because it seems the stereo will be as well.  We won't know for sure until we get them, but so far it looks good.

      Attachments :
Here's a possible cover for a PLANET DVD I worked on today based on the cover
of the original PLANET LP of the Jerry Goldsmith score. I've scanned
elements of it and rearranged them, but I also had to scan two of the ads in the
PLANET pressbook to show more of the cage (and fitting them together wasn't
easy!). I also flipped the color photo of Zaius on the LP cover because all these
years we've been looking at it backwards! Finally I added to the top of the
cover the Fox Home Video "Studio Classics" banner. (I wish the studio would
release all it films that are pre-1975 as "Studio Classics.")

Anyway, this is basically the same as the PLANET 1-sheet, but I've always
liked it. It's elegant and doesn't sell the movie as anything less than a
serious film. I thought about adding more photo elements, but then it becomes too
busy and crowded, but I'll keep thinking about it, so I should have further
        versions in the future.

As we know, the new "Battle" will be the Extended cut. Just thought I'd mention the word is getting around. It got a mention on www.thedigitalbits.com  ; it's amazing the sites that are keeping track of this. Hopefully Fox will note the interest in these titles that have already been on DVD. But I wonder if the original version of "Battle" will also be on this DVD (two versions)? And will they clean up the added footage?
Also to capitalize on "King Kong", Universal is rereleasing the "Congo" DVD, according to digitalbits, but with nothing new. That was ANOTHER recent bad ape movie, but with FX by Stan Winston this time, who was going to do POTA from the Oliver Stone to the Cameron eras.  - - - Jeff

I am not fan of POTA 2001, but both Cameron and Oliver Stone were going
to produce only. If Cameron really cared, he wouldn't have tried to
force Peter Hyams down FOX's throat(and as Rifkin's script did as well,
developed a direct sequel to Planet, ignoring that the sequels existed.
I think ignoring the sequels is ludicrous.) Furthermore, as awful as
2001 was, it wasn't as bad as the Terry Hayes screenplay that Stone was
going to produce. Just for the record, I also thank god every night
that Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin passed....

Well, I e-mailed them yesterday to know what was going on and asked him to confirm it with Steve Feldstein at Fox, which he did with remarkable speed.  So the interest is there.

John- I like that cover, too. At first I thought it was the partial
cover for the real 1940's Captain America # 14 but it's not. Cap is
in good hands. The writer has about the next 15 issues mapped out
and if they're all as good as the first 14, we're in for a treat.
Cap's "Winter Soldier" arc was MUCH better than the Spiderman "The
Other" arc, yet that one got the most attention, of course.
James does a lot of photo manipulation. Maybe he can extend
the extended version of BATTLE by adding a helmet to Aldo in a few
scenes! (Any Claude Akins fans objecting to the covering of his hair
        should speak now.)

I seem to recall they promised TV spots when the TV show was first put out on DVD -- and we didn't get them.  I wouldn't be all that sure we'll get them this time either.  I'll believe it when I see it.

Oliver Stone didn't like the Terry Hayes script either and that's why he
split (he told me himself). I also talked to Cameron in person and he said
the script would be a "synthesis of the first two movies and some new
ideas". There's been rumors what his script would've been but you have to
take that with a grain of salt. I doubt very much his movie would be a
sequel to any of the originals (as has been reported) because the powers
that be wanted new makeups, etc.
Yeah, I'm glad Emmerich and Devlin didn't do it, or Michael Bay, or Chris
Columbus...everybody seemed to try it. If it HAD to be a bad movie at least
Burton brought a visual flair to it. - - - Jeff

That would be great Dave. I'm sure everyone would love to see them.

Maybe Victor is his middle name. LOL

This is one of the reasons I've never considered the novelizations
canon. There are just too many discrepencies between them and the
films. Battle with at least written in concert with the production
of the film, with David Gerrold on set. Both Escape & Conquest were
written years after the films were completed.

To be fair, there were some people who had legitimate reasons for
not signing the petition. Rory for example feels that the theatrical
version of BATTLE is the 'official' version. I may not agree with
        him but respect his opinion.

Well, now I guess the theatrical version is no longer the "official" version, at least as fas as Fox is concerned.  So it seems in 2006 the extended version is now the official version.

I didn't sign the petition because I felt it was too late, and I still believe that Fox had this release planned before the petition appeared.  It takes months to prepare these transfers.  What the petition did was get an "official" response from Fox.

BUT... what we now need is to start a petition for the preview version of CONQUEST and other extras we want -- this for the eventual HD DVD and Blue-Ray DVD box sets for the 40th Anniversary of PLANET in 2008.

Oh, yes... you just keep buying APES... over and over.... like you're stuck in a timeloop!

I never knew that about Gerrold.  Are you sure?

My recollection is the novelizations of the last three sequels all appeared at the same time and that either just before or just after the TV series premiered.

You're right, James...Let me clarify that I did not mean individuals
who had legitimate reasons for their choice...

I think that comes out in Gerrolds' interview in the Marvel Magazine,
        doesn't it?...

Would that make the theatrical version the "penultimate-official"
        version?...=)
