.html All this talk on the apes makeup and who we wish would have done it,
(or will do it in the future) my choice would be K&B effects group.
They did a wonderful tribute to POTA with their Hanuman makeup in the
fourth season episode of Xena: Warrior Princess "The Way" (in fact the
original disclaimer read - Any similarities between Hanuman and a major
character in the motion picture classic "Planet of the Apes" is purely
coincidental. Don't look for the disclaimer on the Xena season four
dvd set, "The Way" was the episode that had to be re edited because of
protests from Hindu groups, and one of the casualties of the re edit
was the disclaimer ) K & B are big fans of POTA and give the film
credit for their careers. i think their work is wonderful. <.html

Oh, yeah, the hunt of course which starts the story going. Guns make more sense than apes using bows and arrows. Elaine

.htmlRoddy has said he based Caesar on a combination of Zira and Cornelius. I
think he found Cornelius boring to play. But Galen was his favorite.
As for the "documentation" on Salome, I just think they accepted that Z &
C's baby was shot dead and didn't look into a switch. Maybe Armando forged a
death certificate for Salome a while later. I doubt Caesar grew up "as"
Salome. In "Conquest", they say they were led to believe the baby was shot
dead with it's parents.
I don't think Zira and Milo "had a thing going" around the time of
"Escape". Maybe they had been lovers before she met Cornelius. They are
obviously close. More of an interesting couple than C & Z. I think Zira and
Milo had the friendship and she brought him in about Taylor. - - - Jeff

(((Well, my friend... Humans, Humanoid Apes... there's no
difference! Cornelius and Zira are much different each other if you
ask me... Cornelius is impulsive, emotional, out of control. I think
to Caesar as the MALE version of Zira. They are also similar...
those make-up wizards shaped Caesar's face on Zira's one. NICE!)))
I agree completely,
Personally, I always thought Cornelius was the intelligent, geek and
push over one of the gang. Not to everyone, but her certainly lets
Zira push him around, I think it's frustrates her sometimes. He
hardly ever looses his temper when he should, and only ever looses
once where we can see. I've always thought so, because let's face
it... If Caesar were like Cornelius he'd probably not have been the
great ape leader he was. It takes a Zira like character to do it.
You seriously can believe that Caesar is Zira and Cornelius' child
cause he does seem to resemble Zira in face and in character, but
he's played by Roddy McDowell, who was Cornelius. It was very clever!
(((That's maybe the major change that Cornelius and Zira provoked...
apart the Plague-Strain II that they and the Icarus had the chance
to introduce. As far as concerned 'documentation', America was still
free in 1973 ('til the coming of C and Z, if you know what I
mean). )))
I think it's ironic that if they had just got rid of the slave part
of the story rather then the innocent lives of Zira and Cornelius.
Then there wouldn't have been all of the rubbish that ended up
happening... Then again, we'd be lonely without Caesar.
(((What bothers me is: SALOME' was an 'ordinary' chimp, not an
Humanoid one. CAESAR - being a HUMANOID chimp - grew up as such:
larger, bigger, taller, erect, humanoid-shaped and all that stuff.
Maybe Armando goofed the documentation again.)))
Either that, or Caesar pretended to be a girl through most of his
childhood! Thing is, we can't be sure on what is what... I doubt it
was mentioned whether the ape was humanoid or ordinary chimp, people
just accepted what Caesar grew into. Armando must have pulled a few
strings with the documentation. Maybe Caesar never was properly
registered as a birth in the circus. It would be risky. We have to
remember that Hasslein wasn't the only one looking for the "Milo";
he was just the one who pulled the trigger that killed Zira and
Salome.
(((In the opening of ESCAPE Dr. Milo is the one helping Zira put on
her clothes, and not Cornelius.... Hmmm.... Was the marriage just
a "front" for Cornelius? I think Zira liked Dr. Milo a little too
much if you know what I mean...)))
No, I don't know what you mean. I used to always think it was
Cornelius helping Zira put her clothes on, but of course it isn't
cause he's the one who takes he oranges and who is on the other side
of cage. It was Milo helping Zira put her clothes on. It's a little
weird cause my best friend is a guy but I'd make him turn the other
way if I was getting dressed. I guess she just has a lot of trust in
him. She was obviously close friends with him cause she was
devastated by his death, whereas Cornelius didn't seem nearly as
vexed.

Yeah it is. Even though they're dissimilar
the one is based on the other, and the
oppressive government is a central theme
of both.

G
In the book, the government is a world government, and there is no army, just a world police force.
In the original movie, there is no army, the gorillas are not soldiers, they are police and hunters. This is another reason why I don't like a lot of BENEATH, because it changed this aspect of the original movie. Suddenly in BENEATH, there's this gorilla army and a General Ursus. Now Boulle is actually to blame for this because he invented the Ursus character (originally called Field Marshall Urus) in his sequel screenplay Planet of the Men, but I have pretty strong opinions about that piece of work which I won't go into here.

I don't find the Dr. Milo character very credible. He seems just a convenient invention of Dehn's to get C & Z from there to here.

Milo 'covered' his brilliant genius all the time. You old fans tend

I like the character and, most of all, like what Dehn did with the

It is with
reluctance that I have to post this, I really have had enough of certain people
trying to stir up trouble between the groups.
Lately Chris
Lawless has been very forward in accusing the owners of the POTA DG of perceived
wrong doings. For the sake of a fair hearing and to show that everything he
says can not be believed I have had to resort to forwarding this little exchange
between the two of us:
Apologies to any one who hates this sort of crap but
some things need to be out in the open for all to see and it does involve the
reputation of the DG

RE: "I actually only removed Whitty, and that was
to preserve the posts he had made. I was one of the group owners, so THAT'S what

no idea how you ended up deleted."
As you can see from the Yahoo notice I have forwarded you are a
complete liar, as everyone else will now get to know.
I was also an owner and you know that. What
you have done is despicable, acting like a dictator then whining about anyone
else that does. Give it a rest with your lies. You can see the proof below and
as you have been happy to let other apes fans know about you being wronged be
prepared for them to also now all know how you have been
acting.
See ya, Neil

But let me pass on the following for everyone to make up their own mind. Last week I removed myself as an Owner of the POTA Marketplace group. This is the email I got from Yahoo notifying me of the change:

Wrong about what?!!! ++++I thought the discussion had been about how the movie was Americanized vs. the novel which naturally was not necessarily about the US but rather human culture in general. The movie is a straight-forward warning about nuclear weapons and so about the Big Players who were most likely to blow up the world at the time. Taylor was a member of ANSA, very American, with his fellow astronauts, planting their little flag in the sand. At first it appears to be America vs. the insanity of the future, come feel our pain, until you know the ending.
The novel of course was written by a Frenchman and more of a general comment or satirical play on human society, more "sophisticated" in terms of the way that commentary was
presented. Wasn't that what the hell the conversation was about? Kass

.html
I never really gave the whole Salome died/Milo lives thing too seriously. I could be that Armando, and I think most of us think this is what happened, had a death cetifciate made for Salome and probably past Milo (Newly named Caesar cause if he were kept as Milo the govenment would probably catch on...) off as the chimpanzees there's new baby a little while later. People probably didn't catch on to the fact he's a humanoid because everyone had humanoid apes around the time Caesar was a teenager, so I figured maybe people didn't question it all. As for Caesar and who he is as a person, I always figured he was more like Zira then Cornelius. I've sometimes wondered why Amando said Caesar's name in the interigation scene when people would catch on (Then again he did go out a window) anyway, I agree with nearly everything everyone said to describe Corny. He's a real geek, you only have to watch him for a few minutes to realise he's a geek and he
doesn't like to get in trouble.
I imagine that in school, Cornelius must have been the geek who always was good and well behaved and was one step up and above the nerds and loosers who stabbed you in the arm with a pen cause you annoyed them! I think it is cute the way Zira seems to have complete control over him. He may stand up to her when she's being pushy but he still ends up doing what she wants cause she's the mistress and he seems to always end up doing as she says. He's whipped and very well-trained. I'm a guy who doesn't let girls push me around and in return I'm nice to them. I think guys who are whipped a kinda with the wrong girl and vica versa if a girl is controled by her guy, but if it works for them that's okay too.
Now, as for Milo, I wish they could have done more with him but the actor didn't like the make-up so they killed him off faster then they were originally supposed to. It's very tragic cause I think he could have been
potienally the only ape in the story who could out smart Zaius, though I suppose our favourite chimps could do it- If Corny wasn't so predictable. Back to the point about Amando changing Baby Milo's name, it's cause the name Milo is mentioned a lot (By Zira in particular who was quick to blame the humans for his death) and the fact there's a baby chimp with the same name might draw too much attention. Now finally, as for the Milo helping Zira with her clothes and it not being Corny, all I can say is 'Hmmm, interesting'. While all the ideas put forwards here really interesting and would be interesting if you went into them, we just don't know enough about Milo to jump to conclusions, while the whole idea that he and Zira may have history is interesting. I seriously doubt that there was anything going on at the time of ESCAPE, cause I think Zira would be and is too smart to let Corny get ideas if it were true, either that or he was just to shy to say
anything.
As for Milo's death, I think it's obvious that it was Zira who must have brought him in on the whole deal with Taylor cause otherwise Milo wouldn't have known about the ship and they probably wouldn't have been all together.in the ship if it were just him. It also obvious that if he's anything, he's denfently more Zira's friend then Cornelius' cause as it's been said, Zira was a lot more upset about the death of Milo then Corny. I know she's a girl and for some reason they are typtically considered to cry when people they know and cared about die, but I also got the feeling that while Corny was very sorry Milo died he didn't care as much as Zira. Maybe they just worked toegther and it was Zira who the he was friends with. Written by Cam
(((Well, my friend... Humans, Humanoid Apes... there's no
difference! Cornelius and Zira are much different each other if you ask me... Cornelius is impulsive, emotional, out of control. I think to Caesar as the MALE version of Zira. They are also similar... those make-up wizards shaped Caesar's face on Zira's one. NICE!)))
I agree completely,
Personally, I always thought Cornelius was the intelligent, geek and push over one of the gang. Not to everyone, but her certainly lets Zira push him around, I think it's frustrates her sometimes. He hardly ever looses his temper when he should, and only ever looses once where we can see. I've always thought so, because let's face it... If Caesar were like Cornelius he'd probably not have been the great ape leader he was. It takes a Zira like character to do it. You seriously can believe that Caesar is Zira and Cornelius' child cause he does seem to resemble Zira in face and in character, but
he's played by Roddy McDowell, who was
CorneliusÂ… It was very clever!
(((That's maybe the major change that Cornelius and Zira provoked... apart the Plague-Strain II that they and the Icarus had the chance to introduce. As far as concerned 'documentation', America was still free in 1973 ('til the coming of C and Z, if you know what I mean). )))
I think it's ironic that if they had just got rid of the slave part of the story rather then the innocent lives of Zira and Cornelius. Then there wouldn't have been all of the rubbish that ended up happening... Then again, we'd be lonely without Caesar.
(((What bothers me is: SALOME' was an 'ordinary' chimp, not an Humanoid one. CAESAR - being a HUMANOID chimp - grew up as such: larger, bigger, taller, erect, humanoid-shaped and all that stuff. Maybe Armando goofed the documentation again.)))
Either that, or Caesar pretended to be a girl through most of his
childhood! Thing is, we can't be sure on what is
what... I doubt it was mentioned whether the ape was humanoid or ordinary chimp, people just accepted what Caesar grew into. Armando must have pulled a few strings with the documentation. Maybe Caesar never was properly registered as a birth in the circus. It would be risky. We have to remember that Hasslein wasn't the only one looking for the "Milo"; he was just the one who pulled the trigger that killed Zira and Salome.
(((In the opening of ESCAPE Dr. Milo is the one helping Zira put on her clothes, and not Cornelius.... Hmmm.... Was the marriage just a "front" for Cornelius? I think Zira liked Dr. Milo a little too much if you know what I mean...)))
No, I don't know what you mean. I used to always think it was Cornelius helping Zira put her clothes on, but of course it isn't cause he's the one who takes he oranges and who is on the other side
of cage. It was Milo helping Zira put her clothes on. It's a little
weird cause my best friend is a guy but I'd make him turn the other way if I was getting dressed. I guess she just has a lot of trust in him. She was obviously close friends with him cause she was devastated by his death, whereas Cornelius didn't seem nearly as vexed.

Being the wonder-bug I am, I just watched ESCAPE again and at the
start when they're in the cage, it is definatly Milo (Sal) helping
Zira (Kim) put her clothes on. Cornelius (Roddy) has his back turned
to them and is hanging up the space suites. He's on the other side
of the cage to Zira and Milo, and doesn't move cause he's the one

the oranges. If they did that then we'd have no reason to think, "Huh
isn't that weird?" about the scene. Nonetheless, all three of them a
pretty funny in the scene. Zira is shocked as the humans are standing
there watching her get dressed and hides herself, Milo giving them all
funny looks and Cornelius taking the oranges, taking two and demanding
another so all three of them get feed.
Doesn't change the fact that it's weird the way the scene played out
in the end. ^_^

I think I get the gist of your post, but I'm guessing English isn't your
first language. You mean 'put her close on' and 'without assistance from
Milo.' Right?

I think this is getting a little over-analyzed. Occam's razor - the
simplest explaination is usually the right one.
Zira doesn't NEED any help getting dressed but Milo is a
gentlemen(ape). Ladies don't need doors opened for them but I was
taught to believe it is polite to do so.
And the perhaps the only reason he is being gentlemanly and not
Cornelius is simply because he's nearest.

PS: Just a little off topic, do you think that Caesar ever used his real
name at all, or even know what his real name
was?
To your second question, no. That would be dangerous.
As to the other point. Milo was just being a gentleman. Zira
was, after all, the only intelligent female chimp in the world at that
point. If he was ever going to get any he's got to be nice to her.
Why wasn't Cornelius nice to her? I mean, Come on . . . They were
married!

.html I saw the straight-to-video Ultimate Avengers DVD two nights ago and
thought it was pretty good. 71 minutes of core-team Avengers
animation! The story takes place in the "ultimate" Marvel universe
which is revisionist. I recommend it to any comic fans out there.
Two things:
1) I've never read an 'ultimate' comic and this DVD features the
Marvel Select WW2 Captain America which I thought existed only as an
action figure. Can anyone tell me which comics specifically tell the
story of this version of WW2 Cap?
2) Marvel did this to test the waters of the possible success of a
real life Avengers film. Why can't FOX follow suit and do a straight-
to-vid Planet Of The Apes DVD animated feature? There's only been
one Apes cartoon, so they've got lots of opportunity where to go with
the project. What do you guys think would be a great animated FOX
POTA start:
- sequel to BATTLE?
- TV show wrap up?
- POTA2001 sequel?
- Boulle's novel adapted?
- Terry Hayes' script brought to life?
- something totally new?

I'd like to see a story set in the classic APES environment but not
necessarily one that has strong ties to what's gone on before. There's
a huge chunk of time, post Battle and Pre Planet that could be
explored with having to link to either.
I'm tempted to suggest explore other parts of the planet too - but
that brings back memories of some of the less memorable aspects of the
Adventure comics.

You seem to have this unreasonable obsession with the fantasy world

If I understand what you're asking, as far as Capt. America, that

On the POTA animated feature, I'd luv to see a faithful Boulle novel
adaption, done by someone quality like Disney/Pixar...

"Unreasonable obsession"?? You're more reasonable in replying
to posts of much littler quality on the same-old, same-old topics.
I know very little about The Utlimates myself, that's why I
asked the question.
The original Cap comics from the 40's and the 60's are
different from The Ultimates because they are a different
universe, though Marvel doesn't have as many "earths" as DC does/did.
That's why Cap's costume is different.

thing was just a bad call by Don 'The Flying Nun/Mannix' Taylor.

.htmlI've always looked at it like this: in human society a doctor of anything
is a person who has earned the highest academic degree awarded by a
college or university in a specified discipline...Dr. Milo studied
human (or ancient ape, Dr. Zaius) technology, earning himself a
doctorate in it, which is a degree or status of a doctor as conferred
by a university...
As for Milo helping Zira with her coat, I always chalked that up to an
evolved social extension of normal chimpanzee/ape grooming behaviour...

.htmlI found James' joke very funny. True, he only really was "Dr Milo" when they spoke to other people. You know, maybe we should stick those three apes on the Jerry Springer show and see what happens. While we're probably getting a little carried away maybe, this is an interesting talk point and an interesting theories going on. I always thought that Cornelius and Zira must have been close with Milo to let him in on Taylor, cause otherwise they wouldn't have gone backward in time in the ship! Written by Cam

What a relief, the good general reproduced and had heirs. I can do a lot with those sons.

Perhaps the price of a ticket to the past was a night with Zira.
Or maybe she inherited Stewart's spot as the new Eve.

Who knows?
Maybe the POTA chimps were actually Bonobos,
and 3-ways were common, even after marriage.
It's certainly in keeping with their leftist leanings
and lifestyle. Remember Lucius and the Protesters.

That may be, but she was making sheep's eyes at Taylor
all through the first film. She may have just wanted to make
Cornelius jealous. And females are fickled as far as affairs

In addition to the continuation of the Conquest adaptation, this issue features the first appearance of the application for the UK Fan Club. I won't be including the application again when it reappears in a later issue, so enjoy it here while you've got the chance. Finally, a special treat for Pete fans awaits them on the back cover. Hopefully it makes up for the lack of a letter column this week. Enjoy! Greg

.htmlGrape-juice-plus or some sort of alchol, I'd hate to see what Gin would do to her could see Milo easily getting Zira drunk... It doesn't take much, does it? As for that comment about some females... That's true actually, maybe Zira's a natural born flirt. Some females, are natural born flirts, and guys like girls like that and the girls just can't help themselves, she'd would flirt with a cardboard cut-out if she wanted to. I'm not saying all girls are like that, but some girls are. They love to flirt and love to see guys fall over then and they love to see how far they can take it. Why should it be any different with apes?
Zira is certainly a wonderful example of everything you'd want in a female personality and I imagine Corny must have had to work hard to end up marrying her, when you consider that she's the only female ape in the city who seems to have brains, and she's very clever herself. So even if
Milo did actually get anything out of her, you would blame him for trying and I wouldn't put it past him either... He's a genius, he's capable of anything! As for that comment about Zira taking Stewart's place as the new Eve, I could understand that too. They left the planet and saw it destroyed, they didn't know they'd land on Earth's past so they might as well start their own world on the next place they find. I just wonder how Cornelius feels about sharing... lol. Written by Cam
