It used to be called Twisted MEGO Theatre but I think they got in trouble ...Here is part of the current issue. It has a Probe Driod from Star Wars dropping into other universes like Superman, He-Man, LOTR, and Star Trek where after Kirk learns it is a "probe" droid locks himself in a room with it! At one point the droid lands on a distant forest planet...... Tim

At http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=5668
it says a card in the new DVD season of the TV show "M*A*S*H" announces when the
series is done being released on DVD in November, there will be an "Ultimate"
collection of the entire series. It will include "extras". Well, the loyal
"M*A*S*H" fans who have been collecting the series haven't had extras. So,
unless they plan on including those extras on the final season (Season 11),
the most loyal fans will be forced to rebuy the entire series or do without.
Kinda puts them in the same place as "Ape" fans (who, so far, have had to buy
the "Ultimate" collection or miss out on the official cartoons). But this
collection will probably be more expensive (seasons go for about $30 - 40 each,
though ironically I just got about 5 used season for $9 each). This is only the
second "Ultimate" collection from Fox I've heard about, so maybe it's a trend.
Like "Apes", "M*A*S*H" was often filmed at
Malibu Creek State Park and was a favorite show of Arthur Jacobs and Natalie
Trundy.
In other TV news, on "Here Come the Brides",
a show featuring Mark (Urko) Lenard sans makeup, was released May 16th on DVD, I
believe.

story is very much a technological creature, and the Caesar in Battle clearly
has given all that stuff up (or at least, left it all behind, since he has to
travel BACK into the ruined city to see his parents on video). And by
the way... I just got in the first pages of art from Kent Burles for his
story in our series, and WOW, WOWOW! I couldn't be happier. He does
a pretty cool lawgiver, and a way-cool wild human. But who wins the cage
match? Maybe Kent should consider drawing comics for a living, no?

One of the more surprising things about Revolution is Caesar's journals.
After seeing Conquest, one would think that he was actually looking forward to
man's downfall so that he could build his new world (the degree of equality
for humans beyond the "good servants/useful to us" level is subject to debate
until the end of Battle, at the very least).
However, I get the impression that his initial dream was for apes to
become civilized and explore the universe with technology, philosophy,
science, etc, rather than to control the world because it was their
destiny. The current main plot thread in Revolution is covering how
he's does his part to stop the nuclear holocaust from happening --
and apprently failing due to the counter-insurgency team led by Kolp.
Meanwhile the President of the US is holed up with military types
futilely trying to prevent the ape rebellion from spreading, and the nukes are
staring to go off around the world. It's very poignant to get that sense of
"roads not taken", and how events can go out of control due to the ineptness
of leadership and the laws of unintended consequences. A different US leader,
with less baggage about human superiority, would have had the depth to have
sought out Caesar and tried to diffuse the situation. Not that it might have
stopped the ape rioting, but it might have stopped the nukes from escalating
out of control around the world.
The irony is that the Caesar of the Revolution series would likely have
been repulsed by the anti-technology, anti-growth world that his successors
built. He's just as much a product of the modern world as any of the humans,
of course (using the Internet to communicate, living in a modern apartment
with Lisa, etc.). I hope the series continues to show how he moved from the
"modern" world to accepting a world with treetop homes and primitive
agriculture. The nuclear war by itself couldn't have been the only reason,
unless they really did have to flee the city with nothing but the Ape
Management clothes on their backs.

Issue 4... (counts on fingers) that's two thirds of
the way in by my reck'nin - and the world as we know it continues to
unravel. "Unconfirmed detonations over Moscow..." So matter-of-fact and
yet so chilling, no need at all to mention the probable millions dead
and inevitable escalation. It's these chilling moments, the
stories between the lines that make `Revolution' so much more than a
brief read-and-forget experience.
The back up strip features IMHO
the best art in the title yet. It takes skilled writers to juggle your
emotions and sympathies from frame to frame like that, and a brave ones to
present a shocking sequence of events that will leave a bad taste in the
mouths of most readers. While some may wonder at the identity of the girl
cop's father I'm just left admiring the talents of professional
storytellers at work.
Viva la revolution!

Thanks Ty.
I was surprised that Reich took his own life. It almost seemed like
he was quietly amused by what was happening. In a twisted way mind
you, but amused nonetheless. I would've expected him to stick around
and see where everything ultimately led to.
I have to admit, I'm really curious as to what's behind that huge
door that Breck, Kolp, et al are at. I mean, I'm pretty sure I know
what's there, but I'm anticipating a very cool splash page to show
it all.
Patiently awaiting issue 5. :-)

Beach party POTA moment
Recently I was watching Bikini Beach (1964), a piece of fun fluff with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, and I was treated to what appeared to be a bit of prequelism to Escape from POTA (1971).
In BB, Keenan Wynn plays a malicious real estate developer who wants to get rid of the teeny-boppers so he can build a vacation resort. Everywhere he goes he takes with him Clyde, an ape (someone small in a medium-grade chimpanzee suit) of extraordinary intelligence whom Wynn tries to use to show how lowbrow the kids are. In one scene Clyde wows the gang with his hot dog surfing technique.
But what caught my eye was the scene where Clyde wins a dragster race at Don Rickle's hot rod track and is surrounded by congratulary fans who cannot see who is in the race suit or helmet. He removed the helmet.. And the crowd gasps.. A proto-moment from the opening of EPOTA! Fun if anyone is interested in beach party relics.

I may be stating the obvious, but he's not French.
If it is supposed to be faithful to the book, and a
Frenchmen were to play a Frenchman, here's my
Top 3 List . . . in the voice of David Letterman.
# 3 Gérard Depardieu, the French Liam Neeson.
At # 2 Jean Reno, That French Guy who's in everything.
And the # 1 French Ulysses Merou . . . Tchéky Karyo !!!
Not actually French, but played a French guy once in a Mel Gibson
movie.
Why some Turk who only played French? The only guy I know who

He could be brash and mouthy; he could be more thoughtful. I have no suggestions for an actor off the top of my head - I don't keep up with current actors so well. Liam wouldn't be a personal choice. Yeah, but James Naughton would be good, actually - just put a little dye on the hair to make him seem a mite younger <G> Kass <If the studios were to make a faithful (live-action) version of Boulle's 'Monkey Planet' who would make a good Ulysse Merou?

Merou is a journalist, not Moses, and there should be a vulnerable,

At any rate, it looks like we're still on track for Saturday June 24th. Meeting time is yet to be determined, but it will most likely be between 10-10:30 AM at GCT and we'll head out from there. Since the old system isn't hooked up yet I don't have access to the list of the stores we hit last time (I remember the places but not the names), but I'm sure everyone here who attended last September can rattle them all off. At the Comic Con, another one was mentioned that we all wanted to check out but I've also forgotten the name. James, help me out here. There were two locations, and they're known for selling bootlegs of the old Superhero animation. If there are any places anyone wants to include, now would be
the time to let everyone
know. In fact, I believe we had a route planned out last time.
Also, I plan later that night (8PM) on seeing Toto perform at Irving Plaza. Yes, Toto, and yes, they're still around. :-) I don't know what everyone's musical tastes are, but anyone who's interested is welcome to join me. If you can't do that and would like to hang out for dinner at the end of the day, that'd be cool too. If nothing else though, I'd certainly appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction when the time comes. The address is 17 Irving Place for those of you who know the area. I went there once years ago, but the directions I was given weren't any good and I ended up having to take a taxi. As I recall, it's not a street that's simply off of another street or avenue. You have to turn in and then turn in again or some such weird thing.
OK, everyone sound off and give me an update when you get a chance.
James, I hope you've been feeling
better since the last time we discussed this?
Later,

Thanks, Rory, That's something to look forward to. So how many copies
have you ordered :0)
I acquired Capricorn One not long ago, some sections are very
reminiscent of his Apes score. John Roche has noticed this in other
scores and it makes me wonder if a 'mock' soundtrack, for an Ape movie
that never was, using only Goldsmith cues from other movies, could be
compiled.

Try listening to Goldsmith's score to the 1971 Fox film THE MEPHISTO WALTZ and you'll hear a lot of APES in that too. It's been out on CD for years.

Watch it if you can. Don't spend a lot of money to obtain a
copy (I bought a used VHS on eBay for about 9 bucks with postage) but if
the opportunity presents itself by all means see it. It's about par
plot-wise with a 1965 Godzilla film but the costumes & ape makeup
are like an oddly-compelling car wreck.
Then if the kids are sleeping get yourself a copy of the
soft-core flick featuring actors in Ape makeup (i saw the film but can't
remember the title) and 3 female astronauts there really aren't many
'offensive' scenes-and the writer at times tries to stick to the first APES film
as we see the spaceship sink in the lake (very cheesy fx!) and a few other
key scenes.
Hope I didn't come off like a pervert in this email lol but I
like to inform.

Thanks Kass,
They're fun to do. The thing with Depp is that he's such a chameleon
it's hard to pick a 'look' that says Merou. If you can find a picture

If anyone has one of those pictures from back then, Bill needs your help. He

according to www.boxofficemojo.com
:
1. "Star Wars - Revenge of the
Sith" $50 million
2. "X-Men: The Last
Stand" $44
mil
3. "Spiderman
2" $40.4
mil
4. "Harry Potter & the Goblet of
Fire" $40.1 mil
5.
"Spiderman"
$39 mil
# 18 on the list is POTA2001, which got $25
million it's first day (it's Fox's biggest opening day that isn't "Star Wars" or
"X-Men"; even "Fantastic Four", which is currently getting the sequel treatment,
is farther down at # 27 with $21.2 mil).
"X-Men 2" made $31 million it's first day 3
years ago. In my opinion it's the best of the 3. "X-Men 3" is pretty good as
entertainment and spectacle, but seems kind of rushed (which it was, natch, by
Fox) and lacks the artistry of the previous one (thanks to it's new director,
party boy Brett Ratner). It remains to see how it does in the long run and
whether it will best "X-Men" defector Bryan Singer's "Superman
Returns". - - - Jeff <.html <.html

Well that is the question isn't it.
Even some of the leaders of the
church questioned Christ's divinity.
But I'll bet apes didn't have St. Nicholas
walk over and slap them. Damn, Santa
Claus! Now that is cold! True story!
St. Nicolas was tired of arguing the
question with a particularly obstinate
cardinal and finally just hauled off and
smacked him. Yup! The same holy

him as chosen by God and somewhat above all other Apes.

I don't know how much he can be blamed, seeing that he was brought in
about 9 weeks before shooting, after the movie had been in
preproduction for almost a year with another director. (I think I
have those times right.) In fact, I was surprised at how similar the
movie's feel was to the first two. Not as deep or as well thought
out, but stylistically, it was a good match.

That doesn't mean it was a worse movie. And it wasn't, IMO. FF was a

King Arthur was stitched together from great apes of
history? Cool! (Heh heh...just kidding.) I think you're probably
right about this, especially given that the comics over the years
have revealed the existence of several Lawgivers, and that the Sacred
Scrolls were written by more than one ape, in more than one era.

Yeah, I don't agree either. POTA2K had its moments, but I consider
it a far inferior movie to the originals and even the TV
show. Fantastic Four, on the other hand, was surprisingly
entertaining given how badly it was received. <.html

Hey Ben,
The POTA CD soundtrack features a suite from Escape but there has yet
to be an official release of the full score. There is a bootleg doing
the rounds that features more music than the suite and that can
usually be found on eBay.
