Good man Glen! I've sent my message begging for re-issues of the
classic Apes figures! We should all, I think, give this a push --it
would be pretty orgasmic to get something like this! John, Scrolls.

These Mego Star Trek repops are a collaberation between Diamond Select and
Doctor Mego:

Doctor Mego already had made the factory made repro blank pants and colored
shirts before so he had some materials on hand already.

Although, he does repros of Mego Ape stuff, most of those are hand cast. But
I am sure if a viable licence offer and toy comapny collabertation (I don't
think Doc could do the mass distribution stuff himself which is why he is
working with Diamond select) could be established, he'd take on the Ape
figures.

I must admit if those 2 figures of Kirk and the Klingon are repros they're  darned good!

The old toys are already here and overpriced.
With any product that becomes valuable, you attract the rip off
merchants.
Producing replicas will allow such merchants to sell replicas as the
authentic model and nobody wants this.
How many of us have enough skill to pick the fake from the real?
When I had a collectable store, the numbers of fake figures brought in
to sell were astounding. Of course this was Ireland and chancers are
a way of life here, but fortunately they were unknowledgable chancers.
I think original toys should be protected for those who want them. They
should be hard to come by. That is part of the fun. The treasure hunt
is far more fun than the hand out.
I cannot afford most of the old toys. I have mostly given up trying,
but I still enjoy the new Toys like, Sideshow or Medicom brought out.
Brendan
Very true Brendan I hadn't even thought about that aspect.

Agreed!!   ;-)

Actually, I sometimes wish I could see these films once without knowing what's going to happen. Especially at the end of the first two.

I don't want to give too many spoilers, there are no mutants, but Duck
Dodgers (idiot eyes) and Porky (Bright one) enter a cave where the
ultimate ancient weapon is revealed, not the Alpha Omega bomb, but an
anvil.... Other than that, it's really not a beneath parody, just a
continuing adventure on planet Taz... Beneath is the only short to
feature the Heston character. "Enough" ends the series like the novel,
only with a twist you can see coming a mile away....

I don't have the poster, but if I recall correctly from the few times
I've seen the first issue on eBay with the poster, it's the cover art
for the first issue, without the cover copy.

I believe it was in response to reader complaints that there wasn't
enough Apes material in the comic.

It appears to me that the second run of the adaptations used the art
from the color Adventures comic, which had been re-touched. So it's
sort of new material, I suppose. I felt it was worth including, even
though it meant more scanning.

Yes, that's right Greg. The First issue, cover, of the US run. The UK
used the cover of the American issue # 2 for it's first cover.
But we forgive them because they eat everything boiled.

Not only were they repeated, but certain panels have

I found it interesting. I always really hated teh

    Beautiful artwork.

    How goes the Audio guys?

Are you still on schedule for the 1st March?

When auditioning do you look for actors who can imitate the vocal
mannerisms of the original movie actors?

You've mentioned some new and original elements - any clues as to what
    we can expect?

How long do you anticipate the total running time will be from the
    first part to the last?

Going well! Thanks for asking amigo! I am finishing the mix of ep#3 and hope to have ep#4 complete over the weekend. Yes everything is on track for Mar 1. Each episode will run between 20-25 minutes or so.

As for some new stuff- I can say I am going to explore Dr Milo, the finding of Taylors ship and how he was able to get it back in working order. As well as adding a take on the 2 astronauts that are in the Boulle book and a few other things that were maybe refered to in passing in the movies but were never really explored in depth. Yes I know this deviates from cannon and i am getting hammered over it in nasty ways from a person at a POTA Yahoo group that invited me in and now this someone is just plain hateful, not discussing just hurling insults... I have not lowered myself to this nor will I. If you do not agree with this addition, that is fine-I would love to discuss your views and mine in an adult manner without being insulting to anyone as is the case there with this one person. Sorry, yesterday was less than stellar.

But, be aware that the Audio Drama stays true to the movies, and I am just adding in bits here and there that I, as a fan, have always wanted to see, not because I am trying to ruin the world of POTA. Just wanted to make a fuller meal as it were.

Bill, One of my guilty pleasures was the old TV show 'Highlander'. It
used to get criticized something awful for every episode following the
same 'immortal-of-the-week' format. Responding to this criticism the
makers of the show began to try out new ideas and do you know what...
that were hung, drawn and quartered for tampering with the formula!

It's a Catch 22 but my advice is stay true to want YOU want out of
this - not what you think everyone else wants. You ain't gonna please
all of the people all of the time. Some listeners will be open and
receptive, some won't, it's as simple as that. Don't take it personal,
    people are people, is all.

If you're decent enough to put this all together, in your own time and
at your own expense, and then give it to me FOR FREE - then the least
I'm going to do is give it a listen. Chances are there will be things
I like and other things I don't but damn... I'm looking forward to
    finding out.

As for auditions, if you are able to do a specific character that is great, but not mandatory, I just look for people who want to have fun, get their lines in on time and well- have fun- guess I said that already. Because if you are enjoying what you are doing then your lines will rock!

For a 'low tech' SF movie, Apes certainly spawned a

I had a dream last night, The world was set on fire. And everywhere I ran, There wasn't any water. The temperature increased, The sky was crimson red, The clouds turned into smoke, And everyone was dead

It appears to me that the second run of the adaptations used the art
from the color Adventures comic, which had been re-touched. So it's
sort of new material, I suppose. I felt it was worth including, even
though it meant more scanning. <<

Absolutely. I wonder now if it was a deliberate choice to use the color artwork, or if they went with what was easily available at the time? Out of curiosity, are these the complete stories? The Adventure reprints severely butchered some of the stories- especially BENEATH. It was almost like seeing a comic book adaptation of The 4:30 Movie version, minus the cool opening music:

Subject: Want future APES commentary tracks on DVD?
          .html
          .html.htmlOK everyone listen up.....

Recently there have been a series of Fox "Cold War/Spy" movies released on DVD in kind of mini-special editions, these have included the Arthur P. Jacobs/Mort Abraham's produced THE CHAIRMAN (1969), THE QUILLER MEMORANDUM (1966) and the 1966-67 James Coburn FLINT films.  What's made these DVDs fun for me is that they all have commentary tracks by two uber movie geeks, Eddie Friedfeld and Lee Pfeiffer.  Both are middle-aged film scholars who teach in colleges in New York City, and Lee Pfeiffer edits the magazine "Cinema Retro" out of England (see: www.cinemaretro.com), and they are huge fans of films from the 60's and 70's and, of course, that includes the APES films.  In their commentaries for these recent Cold War/Spy DVDs they often mention the APES movies.

Anyway, I've had an email contact with one of them, Eddie Friedfeld, about getting all the APES movies commentary tracks for a future DVD release, perhaps a 40th Anniversary Blu-ray special edition.  He and his partner have a desire to do it, and they'd like to hear from as many APES fans as possible -- in emails -- so as to show Fox there's support in the market for it.

So, I'm now asking EVERYONE in these Yahoo groups to email this guy and tell him you want commentariy tracks for EACH film, and then anything else you desire for a future DVD release of the APES films.  The FLINT films had a host of new featurettes, including a tribute to Jerry Goldsmith.  The commentary tracks these two guys do are a lot of fun to listen to.

So, here's his name again...  Eddie Friedfeld... and his email address is:
          Q007solo@...

Also, spread the word to other APES fans you know who aren't in these Yahoo groups.  Let's see what we can get done.

He'd have been getting his swerve on with Nova every
night, eventually giving birth to a new race of humans

            That seems unlikely.

Not to rain on anyones parade, but there was a tie in @ Starcon ten
years ago for the 30th anniversary. They had a great guest list, but
there wasn't a very big turnout.

Anyone who has visited the Yahoo Home page http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/ may have noticed the header noting 105 New Files.

The truth is there are not 105 "New" files. These are all old files that were restored to the Group's File Section: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files. These files were moved back from the File Archive group.

Until recently, Yahoo only gave groups 20MB of storage space in their Files section. They have increased storage space to 100MB. So we were able to move all the old files back to the Main group and still have over half of the available space unused. The Files Archive group is no longer needed and has been deleted.

The question now is what to do with the Fan Fiction subgroup http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaFanFiction. Do we continue to maintain it as a seperate group or do we create a Fan Fiction folder in the Files section and move everything there? There is more than enough room needed to do this.

For a lot of different reasons, I'd say NYC since it was featured so
prominently in BENEATH (and at the end of PLANET).

Not out of the realm of possibilities, but it'd have to be on a smaller
scale. Something around what the Mego Con 2004 was, maybe a little
              larger.

Make that two votes for NY. In a convention hall with a view of the Staue of Liberty so jerks like me can fall to my knees and scream "Oh my God!" from time to time.

Soooo, if the Statue of Liberty is simply half buried in the beach
sand (still sitting in it's orig. location), corroded and rusted,
what are the structures, or Beach Rock to it's left supposed to be?

I first assumed it might've been melted down skyscrapers, covered
with sand and beach erosion over the years. But if that is the
present day location of Liberty Island, what could account for all
that mass. Or the formation (appearance) of that Coast Line seen
during the ending of "POTA" and beggining of "BENEATH?"
