The question now is what to do with the Fan Fiction subgroup http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaFanFiction. Do we continue to maintain it as a seperate group or do we create a Fan Fiction folder in the Files section and move everything there? There is more than enough room needed to do this.

I vote for everything being together.

Well, since the Statue is no longer standing straight up, I would say
the land shifted some...Also, the Statue could have been buried more
than we see it (as in a flooding of the bay), and what we see it what
was exposed by erosion over the past 2,000 years or so...IMO...

Milo found Taylor's ship- Brent's was destroyed (the burned wreckage should have been a giveaway dude). There were only two ships in the films, a third if you count the TV series.

Bill,
Just wanted to ad my support. You can't please all of us and it would
be futile (and certainly unneccessary) to try. I hope you are
enjoying the process and the creativity involved in bringing this
project to life. Count me in as looking forward to your
interpretation of the POTA world.

Last week we had the final issue of Marvel UK's Planet of the Apes, which left us hanging in the middle (okay, more like near the end) of the Battle adaptation. Those of you who were worried about missing the end of this classic adaptation need worry no longer (and really, you should work on your reading comprehension, because I said last week there was more to come). This week we begin posting the 16 issues (231 through 246) of Mighty World of Marvel that contained the last of the Marvel Apes material that was published in the UK. First off we'll be finishing the Battle adaptation. In the weeks to come we'll revisit the Terror storyline as well as the Future History Chronicles.

Also available this week is part 4 of the BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime adaptation of Pierre Boule's novel. Thanks to Neil Moxham and David Bryan for providing the files. Also thanks to Neil Foster for supplying CD case art. The final part will be available next week.

Thanks,
Greg

Thank you so much-I REALLY appreciate it! I am having a ball climbing into the world and am trying to really give it the feel of the movies via sfx and music. Tomorrow it will be up. I am now mixing ep#4 so the schedule can be maintained. Thank you again for your support!

There's (various/multiple) theories by 'POT-APES fans,' which
suggest that the 3rd ship used, or salvaged, by Milo, Cornelious and
Zira might've been an unknown 3rd ship found washed ashore that Dead
Lake (where Taylor crashlanded), or near the beach in the Forbidden
Zone.
This ship could've been either: a 3rd party (ship) sent to rescue
both Taylor and Brent's expeditions; or part of a mothership
vessell comprised of both First Expedition (Taylor and Brent), and
possibly a 3rd ship (an escape pod-or last minute retrival pod).

Soooo, if the Statue of Liberty is simply half buried in the beach
sand (still sitting in it's orig. location), corroded and rusted,
what are the structures, or Beach Rock to it's left supposed to be?

I first assumed it might've been melted down skyscrapers, covered
with sand and beach erosion over the years. But if that is the
present day location of Liberty Island, what could account for all
that mass. Or the formation (appearance) of that Coast Line seen
during the ending of "POTA" and beggining of "BENEATH?"

The official premiere date for Conquest is 6/29/72. However, there were
test screenings prior to that date.

The group's calendar http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/cal

The thing with theories is, they are just that -- theories...
IMO, anything not said, but implied, is kuel to speculate upon, but
when someone starts making up ideas to fit pet theories, they're
    simply rewriting the movie...
It would be like if I put forth the theory that there was a super
race of humans living outside the sphere of influence/knowledge of
the apes or the mutants, outside the boundaries of the Forbidden
Zone...They have more mutant powers than the NY mutants, and they
purposely contained the AO bomb-blast with a force-shield, to just
wipe out both the apes and the mutants instead of the whole
world...C, Z & M were influenced to fly the ship they knew nothing
about, and were manuevered over the blast area to kill them, but it
pushed them back in time instead...These super mutants were all
descendants of Breck and his minions, as well, getting the ultimate
    revenge on Caesar...
Somebody might think that was a great story, but there is no basis in
the movies for it, just my imagination...And although there's nothing
in the movies to say it didn't happen that way, it can't be
considered canon, because there's no substantiation for it...

If you keep an open mind to the possibilities of the POTA Universe you can take it anywhere.  The films, comics, TV series and other media only tell a few stories.  As long as you don't abandon the established history entirely there are a million tales that could be told.  What happened in other countries?  Other areas of the former US?

I think the idea outlined below is crazy - but kinda cool. :-P

I read today that the word "nigger" is now banned in NYC.

I accept that this is an offensive word - and one I don't use myself - but considering how ingrained it is in the popular culture of many black americans - its going to be a challenge to enforce.

Yet you will get arrested if you wear a monkey suit?

Yes, maybe hard in NY because of 9/11 but it will be a piece of cake in
    Canada.

    Guys…

Technically, it's a marvel! The crystal clear, digital quality makes
it soooooo much easier to immerse yourself in a purely aural environment.

As I predicted, some things I liked and others, not so much but I just
reminded myself that this wasn't going to be Boulle's, Jacob's or
Serling's POTA but Hollweg's POTA. That put me in the right frame of
mind and was the key to enjoying the production. If I want Boulle I
can read the book, if I want a faithful audio version of the movie I
can slip the DVD into the player and just close my eyes.

Bottom line is that I enjoyed it and very much so. Without doubt I
would have done some things differently but this is Bill's POTA, not
mine. It's his ship, he's the captain and I'm onboard for the ride.

Here, here. I second that notion (theorie.)
I've also heard or read about the possibility that Brent and the
Skipper might've arrived in separate vessels/ships.
Also, bear in mind, that both ships (Taylor's & Brent's) crash
landed, and suffered some damage to prevent it from lifting back into
orbit. Hence, how on earth could a back water, anti-technological Ape
bea able to salvage one of the 2 ships - or maybe switch parts from
one to the other - much less take it into orbit.

Maybe, the ship was set on auto-pilot and was set to return to the
mothership; thus, travel thru the Heinslein Curve in time space, and
    back to 1973.

Maybe the third ship was a unmanned rescue ship but it came
from another time line. Taylor and Brent were members of ANSA, but if
you watch the Escape and read the script Escape the president said
"and according to the NASA experts who were still subjecting the ship
through microscopic scrutiny". The president said NASA, he didn't say
ANSA, which make me believe that the third ship came from another time
    stream.

The only problem with this theory is in ESCAPE, the President
unequivocally states that the ship was "...the one commanded by
    Colonel Taylor..."...

Depends on whether a few APES gatherings can be formed first. If there
are any APES fans in NYC or NJ and vicinities, drop the idea on them
about getting together in small groups and pull together from there.
Out west here also.....Get some core groups together! A picnic, a

    .html

    Hi,

We've discontinued the POTA Fan Fiction group. The concensus of everyone who responded was to house everything here in one central archive.

All the files from the Fan Fiction group have been moved to the Files Section here in the folder named Fan Fiction. In that folder there are sub-folders by author. There were also several files that had no author credited. Please let us know if you are the author of any of these and we'll move the files to a sub-folder with your name.

Also, there were a couple of files housed in the Fan Fiction group, such as Marvel's Adventure Comic and the first issue of Simian Scrolls, that really weren't fan fiction. These have been uploaded directly to the Files Section.

We still have about 50MB of free space in our Files Section. Please feel free to upload any additional works of fan fiction or anything else POTA related that you'd like to share with the group.

Any city that mistakes a Lite Brite for a bomb, arrests teenage girls for playing a real life version of Super Mario, and freaks out over a Dr. Pepper ad campaign would go nuclear if people went around dressed up as apes (intelligent or otherwise).

Was there ever a serious attempt at a POTA rpg game?

I think its the sort of thing that could make a cool setting under the D20 system.

    Possible? Yes. - Likely? No

I'm inclined to think APES in whatever format would work better on TV
than in the Cinema. These days TV is where all the best stuff can be
found. For example stories that take time unfolding, character growth
and story arcs. The line between special effects/make up for TV and
Cinema is constantly being blurred and is no longer an issue.

Of course none of that matters if the stories are dull but for a
decent APES show with some integrity the talent is out there - just
    not the inclination.

Like "House," "Boston Legal," "Heroes," and my new discovery, "Rome."

See "Rome," which, so they say, is the most expensive show ever made
    for TV.

I made these suits and masks with the intention to roll a shortfilm, but it was a too great task for me alone. In the end I did it, but in CGI.

Yes, it would be great to have a new TV series, but since 20th Century

I agree...As you can see in our feature "POTA Locations", many of the
    original sites are still accessable...
I hate to be a great big old "wet blanket", but, the unfortunate
problem with a business venture is the millions needed and copyright
    infringement...
Now, as a fan project it is more feasible, especially with craftsmen
like Jose, but then we have logistics problems...Whoever could do
this would have to make it a full time effort, with no pay...They'd
be spending their own money, unless they got investors...Then there's
a crafts team to outfit all the actors involved, neither of which
would be paid...You'd need equipment to film and edit, and people to
run that for free...None of this takes into account the writer(s) and
director (I could do those, and would, for free)...If we could draw
all these people out of this site, and others, we'd still have the
problem that we all live on different continents, or across

Then, assuming you could get this far, there's 20th Century Fox to

And an excellent job you've done, at that!...
Of course, filming would be harder...I'm wondering (I'm answering
different posts here) on the ST and SW fan films, how did they do
    it?...
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a POTA film/TV show, but is it
    feasible?...
As for myself, all I can offer is my own talents: I can write,
direct, I know something about prosthetics, I am an actor, and I can
    do voice-over...
Is there someone out there who can seriously get the ball rolling on

wish I knew how they did it.

The stuff I have seen was years of dedicated fans giving up their time and weekends to make props, work sfx in with computer software and generally some shocking acting.

Software to create amazing sfx for films is readily available.  Its a case of getting the fans together and then pooling that talent and resources to make it happen.

POTA fans certainly have the dedication to see something like this done (a fan film at least).

Issue 232 of Mighty World of Marvel, the 2nd of 16 issues of this series to continue the Apes stories after the Planet of the Apes comic was cancelled by Marvel UK, is now available to download from Hunter's site. This week we get a little more of the Battle adaptation.

Also available this week is the concluding part of the BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime adaptation of Pierre Boule's novel. Thanks to Neil Moxham and David Bryan for providing the files. Also thanks to Neil Foster for supplying CD case art. I've really enjoyed listening to these chapters each week and look forward to listening to the whole thing in one sitting.

Well then the first step we have to take(after your answers,
conclusion) is to make contact with the people of FOX, and thats a
task for you living in the us.
That can not be an easy one but not impossible.
Other thing we can do and almost for free is the story and manus of
    the chapters.
Remember that when they started this idea in 1966 nobody cared and
they recived 5000 dollars for the masks, LOL
Thanks for answers and again a very nice group.

    Subject: NEC Update
    .html
Here's the latest info on the APES exhibit at the Birmingham NEC 31st
    March – 1st April.

As with all events of this nature some details may be subject to
    alteration.

Video recordings will not be allowed as a professional crew will be
present making an official recording over the duration of the event –
    no further details at present.

Still photography will be fine for the displays, most of which will be
inside protective glass cases. As you will appreciate the organisers
have so much money tied up in insurance for these items that they will
be very hot about the 'risk factor'

It is `highly likely' that Simian Scrolls will be allowed privileged
access to photograph the exhibits and talk to the personnel involved.

With regard to the actors, any arrangements for photo opportunities
will be up to the individual management and with them.

A professional company is sculpting exclusive POTA NEC Event souvenirs
    – no further details at present.

Original items (inc a Conquest jumpsuit and a gorilla outfit) and
reproduction items (inc ape feet and Ursus' gun) will be available for
sale over the two days of the event.

Cash and Paypal will be accepted at the POTA exhibit but not credit cards

Actors will be present dressed as gorillas 'guarding' the goods, the
costumes will be original background POTA vinyl gorilla costumes
though as some pieces are no longer available they may be made up with
replica pieces to complete the image. Apemania are said to be
    supplying masks and appliances.

The POTA exhibit, Linda Harrison and Buck Kartalian will be present on
    both days of the event

Finally what are the security measure like? I am told there will be,
"3000 gorilla guards managed by Urko and Aldo... Two ape cannons and a
mutant army with fat controller in a jeep to destroy any damn dirty
    humans who take any liberties."

Simian Scrolls will be there supporting the event in any way we can
and we look forward to meeting as many Ape fans that can make it.

    Thanks,
    Greg
